Discover a vibrant corner of Oakland at CocoBreeze, serving up a mouthwatering mix of traditional and vegan Trinidadian dishes like jerk chicken, roti, and refreshing house-made ginger beer.
"There’s a different theme every day of Restaurant Week at this Caribbean restaurant on High Street—think “Under The Sea Fish Friday,” “Superfood Juice Fest,” and “Oxtails Day.” They also have a four-course menu that serves two, including curry chicken roti, jerk vegan fish, and Jamaican patties." - julia chen 1
"The Trinidadian restaurant on High Street in Oakland is a literal bright spot and pure joy in restaurant form: on any given day, you might see live music or Caribbean dancers performing on the sidewalk out front. The same warm energy is infused into every dish—thick chicken roti stuffed with chickpeas and potatoes, an herby, life-changing jerk chicken that slowly builds heat on the tongue, and fall-off-the-bone curry chicken dinners served with beautiful pelau rice and deep-fried plantains. Always grab a housemade tropical juice, like sorrel or mauby. There are no seats inside, but just a few tables on the sidewalk. " - lani conway, julia chen 1
"Oakland’s only dedicated Trinidadian restaurant is about as bustling and lively a restaurant as you’ll find in the city, between the sound of musicians regaling outdoor diners with steelpan drumming and the smell of jerk spice wafting in the air. A big plate of curry goat or jerk chicken — some of the tenderest and most flavorful in the Bay — over pelau rice makes for an ideal meal, as do the curry-stuffed Trinidadian roti wraps, which are one of the world’s great street foods." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff
"Cocobreeze is a Trinidadian restaurant in East Oakland that’s run by Annabelle Goodridge and her daughter. And we love them because we feel (and can taste) warm, heart-tugging joy infused in every dish. From the pholourie (fried split pea dough and turmeric) with a side of chunky tamarind dip to the thick chicken roti stuffed with chickpeas and potatoes, eating here always feels a lot like sinking into a hot bubble bath. Our favorite thing to order is the herby, tender jerk chicken, which packs some serious heat." - julia chen 1, lani conway
"Cocobreeze is a new spot in East Oakland that’s serving Trinidadian roti, rice plates, and colorful superfood drinks. The curry goat roti was excellent, but the jerk chicken wingettes were something special—tender, saucy, and with a serious kick. Like me, you will probably inhale them in record time. - JC" - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway
