The 25 Best Restaurants in Albuquerque, New Mexico | Eater

"Vietnamese restaurants abound in Albuquerque’s International District, but the banh mi at Coda Bakery is a requisite for fans of Vietnam’s stuffed sandwich. At lunchtime, you’re sure to find people lined up in the narrow space, waiting to order jambon, headcheese, and pork belly on a fresh-baked Vietnamese baguette. Know before you go: It’s worth ordering a few Vietnamese baguettes to go before you leave." - Justin De La Rosa

Coda Bakery - Review - International District - Albuquerque - The Infatuation

"The casual, no-fuss Vietnamese bakery and sandwich spot in the International District serves incredible bánh mì that are the length of an entire forearm. They come with homemade rolls, and proteins like beef, chicken, or some of the most luscious slabs of homemade fried tofu ever. Order one at the counter—and at least two or three baguettes and a sesame roll to-go like everyone else." - Lani Conway

Google
Being from a city with tons of Vietnamese restaurants, let me tell you… Coda Bakery does it right every time I visit! The portions are generous, and everything is absolutely delicious. I was a bit skeptical of the prices at first, but they’re completely justified by the quality and quantity of the food. I always recommend this place to friends and family.

Shane L.

Google
This place was rated best sandwich in New Mexico for a reason. Perfect Banh Mi. The spring rolls are also legendary. The only downside is how busy it gets, so it can be hard to grab a table. Many people order to-go. The shakes and tea are also great. The prices are very reasonable considering the portion and popularity.

Nick M.

Google
The new location is substantially larger, well lit, and has ample safe parking! Their food continues to be of excellent quality, fresh daily and if you have the taste buds for it simply delicious. I cannot recommend this business enough for a quick bite in the new store or best yet a great take-home meal.

Google
Outstanding! We went at lunchtime and they were rocking busy…however the line moved very quickly. The crew was very efficient. We live 3 1/2hrs away and sought them out after seeing them on DDD. Glad we did, and we will certainly return.

Rick Von D.

Google
Saw this place on DDD. It lived up to everything Guy Fieri said. Food was excellent. Bahn mi sandwich was the largest of ever had. Spring rolls were huge. A rarity in New Mexico. All other places are half the size for the same price. Prices for other dishes are very affordable for this economy. A must go to for Vietnamese food. Bread and meat made fresh. Check out DDD show about this place for more info!

Google
This was the best banh mi I have had. Fantastic flavor and the bread is super fresh. I got the pork and it was terrific. Highly recommended.

Google
Driving through town I decided to try this place. Happy I did. I tried the house made Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich, a Shrimp and Pork Roll with Peanut sauce and a Sesame Ball. I also bought a CheDau Trang (a rice dessert with a coconut sauce topping) and a Thai Tea out of the fridge. Everything was delicious. Did not disappoint. If you are in the area this is a must try.

Google
Excellent value and excellent fresh food! The noodle (bún) bowls can easily be shared and enjoyed by 2 or more people.

Yelp
Coda Bakery is so amazing! It was my favorite meal of my trip to New Mexico. If you're in the area, you need to make a stop here. Love, Love, Love! This place has delicious Vermicelli Noodle Bowls and Bahn Mi Sandwiches. The grilled pork was a must get. The price is reasonable and there are plenty of seats inside to enjoy your meal at. The staff was very friendly. Plus there's free parking and restrooms inside. Highly recommend Coda Bakery and will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
I had hit a point in my trip where my body just NEEDED Asian food. They had a ton of other items laid out for you to pick up, but I went solely to get my hands on a banh mi. Ordered a combination to share with my fiance and good thing I did! Sandwich was HUGE and packed with meat. Bread was soft and crunchy at the same time. Not too bready and definitely did not cut up the top of my mouth. Only thing I wished was more pate! The cashier's attitude could've been better. Asked her what's in the case since there weren't signs, but she answered like I'm bugging her. Followed up asking if they would have anything else pate filled, she just repeated her prior answer with extra annoyance. Observed her attitude with other customers and it was so inconsistent. Restaurant was large and clean. Not sure if it's a regular thing, but when I went to get napkins, there was a homeless lady there helping herself to a huge cup of water (and making a mess) and a ton of napkins.. None of the employees seemed phased? Good choice in ABQ to scratch the itch for Asian food. Customer service was a turn off.

Yelp
Have gotten them as take out and in person! If you going during the week at lunch time prepare that seating might be hard to come by. There is ample seating inside, they are just bus at lunch! Service is quick and friendly! I have gotten the noodle bowl with tofu each time it's good there and good as take out it holds up well in transport! I thought I had a picture but can't for the life of me find them..

Yelp
Coda Bakery is my favorite Vietnamese deli of all time. Whenever I'm in town, I have to stop by here! Their bánh mì are incredible. The bread is freshly baked. The sandwich itself is huge. It is 12" long and they are generous with the amount of meat/filling. They have so many delicious, authentic Vietnamese snacks and treats, including chè, bánh da lợn, and xôi. I also like to buy their freshly made tofu and chả lụa. I love that they have a New Mexican fusion version of pâté chaud that is filled with green chile chicken. They used to be located near Talin Market, but they've since moved. The new location is bigger and more spacious.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is a must to try! It maybe busy but all worth it especially the pork/shrimp spring rolls. It's no surprise when you see the long line and it's an experience to see how the new location is built.

Yelp
I expected a little more.... Granted my expectations and this place was fine but nothing blew my mind. The avocado shake was decent, rich buttery but what'd you'd expect. Service was ok, not as helpful as I would've hoped it terms of recommendations. Additionally around 3pm they were sold out of most items. The sesame ball was too oily. Fresh spring rolls were decent but again not the best I've ever had. Maybe it was an off day, but I wouldn't make the detour.

Yelp
Okay, I have to say this is the second time I've been here and unless something changes, this is a definite go to spot whenever I'm in ABQ! We had the rolled noodles, grilled pork sandwich, fried tofu, spring roll, and a chicken turnover type thing, and my all time favorite, the banh cam! My apologies but I was so excited to be here the second time I didn't take pics of all the food or the menu! I just wanted to EAT! Admittedly having my cute 1 yo grandson eating with us was also a major distraction. Okay back to the food! Loved the rolled noodles that come with fixings and spheres of meat. Had to ask my pals back in the Bay Area where I can get this dish so stay tuned for Bay Area and LA recs. Coda makes it great and I love the explosion of flavors and textures. Soft noodles filled with bits or pork and mushrooms contrasting with the cucumbers, cilantro, bean sprouts, fried garlic and spheres of meat. The sandwich is a foot long and way better than what you'd get at the famous "foot long" place. The bread is fresh, the veggies crisp and the meat perfectly grilled. The chicken turnover tasted like a buttery pot pie. Gson loved the buttery flakey shell. Mmmmm what's not to love about that? The fried tofu is made in house and it tastes nice and fresh. Make sure you eat it while it's warm and dip it on the soy sauce. The bahn cam is what I came for (and the noodles). It a great crunchy exterior with a creamy coconut filling. Sadly on this second visit the inside was not as good as the first time but the shell still had a satisfying crisp crunch. I'm coming back for sure! The place is a bit cramped to eat in and I see a lot of orders to go. There are a few tables outside if you can stand the heat!

Maithili S.

Yelp
Packed on afternoon of NYE. We got to go pork and onion tofu sandwiches, and onion tofu bowl. I have to admit at how great they tasted hours later. The location is meh.

Yelp
OMG what an amazing spot for lunch!!! No surprise this place is SUPER POPULAR. We ordered ahead online and skipped the lines. Brought the food with us to meet my daughter at work. This place has AMAZING Vietnamese sandwiches! Tried both the meatball and combo sandwiches and both were delicious. For only $12 you get a HUGE sandwich. Might be the best deal in town. We also ordered a couple fried tofu sticks ($1.20 each) and they were really good too! Wished we had ordered the raisin buns/rolls as they also looked really good. They also have Vietnamese coffee and an avocado smoothie! So many things to try....will have to come back!

Yelp
We went to the new Coda Bakery location on Central and San Pedro. As usual everything was delicious. It's a Vietnamese bakery. I'd say about 3/4 of the customers were Asians, and even though this place is bigger than the old location, it was pretty full with a steady stream of customers. We did share our table several times with other others, many who were not speaking English. That's how you know it's good. It is in the international district so getting through the parking lot was a little bit like driving through the zombie apocalypse, but think of it as the scenic route. After we were done eating, we did do a takeout order and one item was left out. We drove back to go get it and they gladly replaced the missing item even though it was close to closing, and they had to remake it. So check your to go order orders before leaving.r

Yelp
Great experience at Coda Bakery. I was looking forward to this place when I saw it on Triple D. I really love the fried tofu and the sauce that would go with it. A great experience and the banh mi was great too. A must if you're in the ABQ area!
google avatar

Lucie W.

Yelp
Good food-was tasty, fresh ingredients and priced well! Ordering in-person and waiting is a bit cheaper than online.
google avatar

Eva E.

Yelp
This place is so much more than a bakery, they have salad, banh mi, rice plate and dessert. I visited this place 3 times during my 1 week work trip. Everything is really good, big portion and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Finally made it to Coda for lunch, and it did not disappoint. The interior is modern and clean with simple furniture, and I like how the cooler and takeaway treats are at the front of the queue. Everything is orderly, the menu is easy to read, and service is friendly. For my drink, I asked if the Thai tea could be made less sweet. It cannot be altered, but it was delicious. Next time, I'd like to try the soursop smoothie, and I'm curious if that can be made less sweet. For my sandwich, I knew to expect a generous portion because of other reviewers, but the high quality French bread wowed me! The texture of some of the sliced meats wasn't for me, but I liked the pate and the fresh veggies. Next time, I'll try the pork banh mi and one of the noodles bowls - and hopefully soon!
google avatar

Rebecca F.

Yelp
Coda Bakery has the best banh mi sandwiches in town! My favorite is the shrimp & pork sausage, and I love how soft the bread is. All the pickled veggies in it help freshen it up too. The banh cuon is also a great option, and of course you can't go wrong with their freshly made tofu.
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
This place is delicious! The decor is well thought out. It works well. Outside doesn't seem like much and when you go inside, you're transformed into a modern world. The kid taking orders at the counter is hustling. He's only 17 and he is doing an amazing job taking orders. The food does take a while to come out. So plan for that extra time.
google avatar

Isabel A.

Yelp
Amazing the avocado smoothie has my heart! The sandwiches are great. I love the smell every time i walk in.

Yelp
Okay, the important thing is that Coda Bakery's food is fantastic and quite reasonably priced. The other important thing to note is that it's probably the loudest restaurant I've ever not simply left and probably one of the most crowded (during our visit), too. Oh, and lock your car doors and be careful driving in and out of the area (drugged people freely walking in and out of the street) and getting in and out of your car - there aren't many worse locations in town. Coda Bakery has fantastic food (probably the best spring roll I've ever had - that crunch! - and a couple of the best banh mi, too - and the raisin/coconut flake "croissant" I had was wonderful). Good coffee, too. Made to order. Great and efficient counter service. Lots of seating (these six-seat tables that really only have space for four people), but not enough for the crowds that come in (and stand around waiting for a seat to open) at lunch. Pricing is reasonable, even inexpensive for these inflated times. Serve yourself water, sauce, utensils and napkins at the counter. The room itself is pretty and well appointed but every surface is hard, resulting in that clattery banging that makes conversation a challenge. And the entire world knows about Coda Bakery. Got there and lined up with a friend at 11:30 on a Friday. Got through the order line pretty quickly and were fortunate enough to find a just-opened table. Then - BAM! - the place was full past capacity with people standing in line, eating, ordering and standing around behind diners, just waiting for a table to open. Since all the surfaces are hard, it was LOUD - my friend and I had a really difficult time conversing while facing one another across the smallish table. Yowza. The ambiance is so oppressive during the rush that it's hard for me to say this is a five-star experience . . . but the food is so wonderful that it's impossible for me NOT to do so. I'd recommend timing your visit for off hours - it's what I'll be doing . . . and I'll certainly be back soon _despite_ the crowds and the horrible location.

Patricia M.

Yelp
The restaurant is kept clean and the atmosphere is good. The food is amazing! It's so fresh and the presentation is good! I've tried several different kinds of food there.. the grilled chicken sandwich is my favorite. But you won't go wrong ordering anything off the menu. It's all good! The service is efficient and professional. We will definitely go back.

Yelp
We came here at the new location, never had a chance to visit the old location by Talin market. It is still pretty close from the old location. It really isn't in a safe part of town as you'll see lot of homeless people in the area walking around. Location aside, everything is great. Nice modern and clean looking interior and the menus on the walls are pretty self explanatory. We ordered 2 sandwiches, 1 iced coffee, and a pork pate chaud and it ran a little over $30. Girlfriend ordered beef lemon grass, which i didn't taste, but she said it was good. I had the grilled chicken which was good. The Vietnamese ice coffee was too strong for my girlfriend, she wanted it less sweet, but it's batch made so the put less ice to counter it. For reference, we like Lee's ice coffee from the bay area, which is on the sweeter side. Even if it wasn't less ice, I think it would be too strong, even for me. But this is strong bitterish coffee as Vietnamese coffee should be. The bread is what makes the sandwiches though, very good texture and the right amount of soft crunch which is ideal for me and you know the bread is fresh. The pate chaud was really good, the pastry had the perfect amount of flakiness and the filling was on point from what I'm use to. I would say it's the best I've had in a long while and the best compared to all I've had in the Phoenix AZ metro area which I moved from last year. I would come back for these 100%. Overall it's the best banh mi I've had in the ABQ area. We will be back when ever we are close by. Would recommend it to anyone, but just be aware it isn't in the best area since there is a lot of transient people loitering around. Which there was one on the west side!

Yelp
Just popped into their new location and its sooo big ! I am so excited for them. Today I ordered a Vietnamese coffee, two sesame balls, #6 and #21. This is for two people. The sandwiches are always to much for me so I half it with my wife. The spring rolls are my favorite here, they are always fresh and the herbs inside are great. The price for lunch was $26 for two people is not bad at all. I am a happy customer that will continue to come .
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
Tried the new location today. It was so packed at lunch, love that! I did a phone order of bulk banh mi & bulk pate chaud to reserve some to take back while in town. They were quick to pick up during busy lunch hour, and delicious. I really love how the jalapeños are shaved paper thin for the grilled pork banh mi...a special touch! And it is very rare to find a Vietnamese restaurant w fresh authentic pate chaud!!
google avatar

Albert D.

Yelp
First time meeting here and it won't be my last food was delicious. Probably the best place in Albuquerque service was extremely friendly clean environment. Great job.
google avatar

Marissa V.

Yelp
Coda Bakery is a amazing restaurant, there food is fresh and delicious, the service is fast, I wish they had more room for seating but it's always busy because the food, bread and egg roles are so tasty. if your tooling for something delicious and satisfying this is a great place to try.!
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
I was so sad. I went through the original location and assumed that it was closed. But I am so glad that it was just the fact that they moved to a better and bigger location. Service is satisfactory, in that the utilize self service (picking items from the fridge) and person check out. Their menu didn't change, which is fine by me, but now they even have pictures on the wall so that you're able to visualize what those sandwiches look like. Clean, modern environment, matches the elegance of the food. Their Banh Mi was top-tier. Freshness from the jalapeños, carrots, and other veggies, created an opportunity for the grilled pork to shine so much more and being incorporated in every single bite. Bread was fluffy with a nice crunch.
google avatar

Abby L.

Yelp
A busy Vietnamese sandwich shop in ABQ. The service was fast. They took our order quickly and even though they had tons of customers our sandwiches came out with 6-10 minutes. Our favorite of the 3 was number #6 the grilled pork but they all hit the spot. We'll definitely be going back!
google avatar

Tracy N.

Yelp
Was visiting ABQ and had to try the viet food. Service was quick and I would def recommend this place. Banh mi was pretty solid, I just wanted more pate and the avocado smoothie was a 10/10
google avatar

Angie K.

Yelp
I used to go here all the time when they were over by Ta Lin but hadn't been since they moved. The new space is much nicer and much bigger with a lot more seating. The food is just as good if not better than it used to be. I got the tofu banh mi, a thai tea, and the sesame balls, how can one resist sesame balls?! Their tofu banh mi is one of my favorites in town, the tofu is done just right and the complement of veggies is perfect with jalapenos that are not hot enough to burn your face off and lose the flavor of everything else. Service is super quick as always. They also have a nice selection of things you can buy from a refrigerated case inside which includes the peanut sauce. One day I will have to come home with that. If you haven't been to the new location definitely go check it out! The food quality has not suffered in the least due to the move and now it's a lot nicer if you what to pause and have your meal rather than run off with it elsewhere.
google avatar

Rebecca W.

Yelp
The best meal I've had in a long time!! Everything was fresh and delicious. I loved the house made tofu. YUM. As a vegetarian, I really appreciated that. My husband loved his pork sausage bowl, too! Excited to come back with the whole family.
google avatar

Devy P.

Yelp
Coda never disappoints! Everything I get I love! From the drinks to desserts they're always so busy! But they get the job done quick!
google avatar

Janet S.

Yelp
A great Vietnamese in the Intl Area. The house made tofu is the best ever, I ordered a portion, and expected it to just come on its own but it was delivered wrapped as two fresh spring roll mutant size with a delicious peanut sauce. Order at the counter and they call your number. Just go in an buy a baguette to take home, or a fresh Bahn Mi. There are a couple of scenes from here in Stranger Things Season 4. It's a cafe with hustle and bustle so not much ambience. Plenty of regular patrons by the look of it.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
My friends had raved about this shop so I wanted to try it out before I left town. Stopped by Monday morning and ordered the dac biet sandwich, Vietnamese coffee, and a pandan cake for the road. Everything was delicious. Coffee was nice ans strong, sandwich was loaded with fillings and the bread was crusty but soft and chewy and the pandan cake had that great machine texture with nutty pandan flavor. The shop was super clean with lots of food options and seating. Service was welcoming and quick!
google avatar

Justin N.

Yelp
Coda Bakery's new spot is much improved over their old location and the food is as good as ever. The Banh Mi's are still the best in ABQ and they even have more menu options now in this new location. We're looking forward to trying more things!
google avatar

Zara L.

Yelp
We love this place. Always solid and delicious. I wish they would open up a location in the western part of town.
google avatar

Kathy C.

Yelp
The banh mi was tasty however the bread wasnt crispy or toasty. It had more of a chewy texture which I was surprised by. Bread was not fresh even though it was a busy saturday. The pandan cake was just okay. The sweet rice and bean dessert was delicious. Service was good and the cashier was attentive and friendly.
google avatar

LeeAnn M.

Yelp
Still one my favorite lunch spots. The Bahn Mi and coffee are so good. Everything always comes out pretty quick and fresh and staff is always kind. This new spot has much more room to dine in and such better parking. A very chill spot. As an already returning customer, I will be back. (Especially for the Vietnamese iced coffee)
google avatar

Steve T.

Yelp
Small little shop most already know about. I'm always near when I'm here but never have the time. Finally this go around got to get my Bahn mi fix. For the price it's great for practically a 12" sandwich. The grilled chicken is like a bbq chicken and chopped up in big chunks. Most places I been around the country give slices or tiny chopped pieces. Flavor was good, little light on the mayo which I like but missing that special liquid seasonings IYKYK. Other than that bread texture was good and fillings and veggies were on point. I can see why they are always busy with dine in or to go orders. Adequate parking in the lot so no worry there. Raisin roll was good. Got hooked on raisins since I was a kid so anything raisins I like. It's like a rolled up croissant and in the layer is little coconut flakes along with raisins and corse sugar on top. Something like a cronut but rolled.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
The house made tofu is the best I've ever had and I've been eating tofu for over 50 years! Try the tofu noodle or rice bowl with Korean BBQ sauce. Or the Tofu Bahn Mi. The portions are generous. The spring rolls are also excellent. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable All the sauces are delicious too. I wish this place was in Austin where I live
google avatar

Ashley E.

Yelp
Coda bakery is absolutely awesome. The noodle bowls, salad, and banh mi are outstanding. The sesame balls and tofu are amazing as well. Everything is fresh and made from scratch. The catering also hit it out of the park! Huge trays of everything for a super reasonable price. This is definitely my go-to for Vietnamese food and I highly recommend giving it a try. It's very popular and a small space, so order ahead or be prepared to wait and possibly share one of the larger tables!
google avatar

Yelneski O.

Yelp
Coda bakery in new mexico very good on the Vietnamese ice coffee empanada . I tried the beef noodles has a weird taste with the sausage no soup broth i didnt like it st all
google avatar

Yelen P.

Yelp
Got take-out: - #63 Bún Đậu Hũ - Fried Tofu - House made fried tofu served plain or with Korean BBQ sauce. - #33 Soursop smoothie The smoothie was nice :) refreshing and delicious. Soursop has a slightly acidic flavor. But of course there's a lot of sugar in it, so it's quite tasty I ate the fried tofu noodle bowl the next day. It was still good. It's a good value for the amount of food you get (compared to other restaurants, for example). Service - didn't eat there, but last time, they were very helpful and kind Ambiance - didn't eat there, but last time it was unassuming and pleasant
google avatar

Breana W.

Yelp
Recently visited for lunch on Saturday, the restaurant was constantly busy with customers revolving in and out. Seating wasn't an issue since many orders were take-out. This place was clean, modern, and had a nice stock of bread and desserts on display. My boyfriend brought me here since this place was featured with Guy Fieri on Food Network. #1 Đặc Biệt / Coda Combo - (5/5) Delicious! I love a good cold cut, this sandwich was packed with meat & condiments. Great balance. Super filling. #61 Bún Thịt Nướng / Grilled Pork Noodle Bowl - (5/5) So good. Ended up eating this the next day, reheated with the sauce and it was delicious. #33 Mãng Cầu / Soursop Smoothie - (5/5) Interesting flavor, sweet, and I enjoyed this! #38 Sầu Riêng / Durian Smoothie - (4/5) I expected a stronger durian flavor, it tasted more like mung bean. Still delicious though. Overall, I loved dining here and hope to try more on the menu!

Yelp
Fresh, flavorful banh mi, salad and noodle bowls. Very consistent! Love their Vietnamese coffee and thai tea with boba, too!

Yelp
Holy moly! This place is AMAZING! Such a huge and affordable menu! And delicious! Please support this business so it thrives because it is awesome! We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Bahn Mi and Vietnamese coffee are so good! They offered Vietnamese desserts as well. Def recommend.

Zoey G.

Yelp
I had been craving bahn mi and this place definitely filled the spot. Hubby got the chicken and I the pork. Both awesome but I'm definitely going back for the chicken. We also grabbed a sesame ball to try and it was surprisingly good. I also ordered an avocado smoothie that was so delicious I thought I was going for round two but had to stop myself. Ambiance was neutral... enough seating but I can see it get packed quickly. I was told this location is sooo much better than the last place they were at by another costumer. You do order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. Overall, worth trying! The food awesome! Ambiance and service good.
google avatar

Kayla R.

Yelp
The restaurant is very nice and modern, the menu is great, I had ordered the #61, and the portion sizes are a big size! Got our food right away and didn't have to wait for a table. Will definitely be coming back again!

Yelp
Lovely place for Vietnamese sandwiches. Quick counter service and a nonstop stream of people for Saturday lunch. Excellent banh mi for $8.5 and great fresh spring rolls.
