I was really looking forward to my visit here... unfortunately, several key areas were bad. A bakery should not have raw dough in their products. The coffee was extremely watered down. See the pictures for yourself.
I recommended this place to my friends and we visited late in the evening on a Saturday, about 45 minutes before closing. We all bought baked goods and drinks. In hindsight, minus a few popular items, they had a good amount of baked goods on display, which should have been the first red flag.
First, the iced americano. I have never had a coffee drink where it was watered down to this level. I thought about asking for another shot but decided not to, for several reasons (I was with a party, it was near closing, etc). But, man, can't believe I paid $3.75 for what was essentially iced water. I tried to understand, as some coffee houses in KTown make their coffees weak to accommodate older Koreans, but this was not weak; it was iced water with a sprinkle of coffee. Don't get their Americanos, hot or iced.
The bigger problem: the raw dough. The lady recommended the Bonne pies, so I got 2 flavors: sweet potato and injulmi (Korean rice cake with sweet bean powder). I took these home and ate them the next day. They have a good amount of red bean paste inside, which was tasty, but this caused the dough in the center to stay raw (see pic). No bakery should have raw dough in their final products. This tells me that their bake staff has limited knowledge in baking, as they should have par baked the crust before adding a dollop of red bean paste. At $5 each before tax, this was a critical mistake.
I also bought their popular green onion bread (a whopping $15) and gifted to my sister. She said it was too sweet and meh.
The only item I would recommend is the UFO cream cheese pound cake ($5).
I feel bad that I brought my friends here as they all bought the Bonne pies to take home. I will never return. I am genuinely surprised that this place has high reviews.
