"An affordable dinner on The Promenade usually means closing your eyes inside a food court and hoping for something that's at least room temperature. Colapasta is certainly an upgrade from that. This neighborhood spot on 5th St. serves tremendous pasta in big portions, at prices that feel like a bargain given the area (everything is generally $20 or under). Our top picks include their classic beef ragu lasagna and beet ravioli in brown butter." - brant cox
"Run, don’t walk, to this charming spot. Nestled into a breezy locale just a few blocks from the Pacific, this modern trattoria packs a big culinary punch, thanks largely to the considerable talent of Chef/owner Stefano De Lorenzo (of Piccolo). On the highly focused Italian menu, expect to find a fragrant soup of the day; a few heartwarming antipasti; as well as a fair amount of beautifully executed pastas, made by hand at a station located front and center in the space. Favorites may include tender calamarata, tossed in a smooth and bright tomato sauce, dotted with oregano, creamy stracciatella and a drizzle of quality olive oil." - Michelin Inspector
"Called out 'for their affordable, house-made pasta and sauces,' a go-to for budget-friendly, handmade pastas and accompanying sauces." - Eater Staff
"Santa Monica is overrun with mediocre (and expensive) places to get pasta. Colapasta isn’t one of them. This shockingly affordable spot on Fifth St. doesn’t just hand-make their pasta daily - they also hand-mill the flour they use to make the pasta dough, and then they use that dough to make excellent casunziei (beet ravioli), lasagna al ragu, fontina-stuffed agnolotti, and more. Available for pick-up." - brett keating
"Santa Monica’s Colapasta is a tiny handmade pasta spot in a commercial part of Fifth St. In addition to affordable pre-made pasta ($2 for 8 oz. packages), they’ve got family meals like a Bolognese supper that’s an absolute steal - it involves a pound of grass-fed beef Bolognese, tomato sauce, and two pounds of pasta for $24. And if nothing else can cheer you up right now, we suspect the solution might be a tray of their incredible lasagna ($59, feeds 6-8). In-store pick-up only, order via their website." - brett keating
