Comal Next Door serves up tasty, fast-casual Mexican fare like tacos and burritos from its cozy spot next to the original Comal in Berkeley.
"Comal has grown to include three locations, including the original Comal in Berkeley, fast-casual spin-off Comal Next Door nearby, and more of a hybrid of the two service styles at Comal Next Door in Oakland, which opened during the pandemic." - Becky Duffett
"Comal’s chill taqueria incorporates many popular Comal items — the carnitas, for example — and packages them up in a more accessible, affordable format. There are tacos, tortas, and bowls, but the burritos are particularly good, with each combination of fillings pre-determined so it hits all the right notes." - Janelle Bitker
"For the best seat in the house at Comal Restaurant, sit at the counter where you can feel the warmth of the wood fire on your face and watch tortillas being made from scratch." - Aaron Hutcherson
"If you don’t have time for a full sit-down meal, but still want to eat some Mexican food, Comal Next Door is, as you may have guessed, next door to Comal. The menu is more geared to people eating on a time crunch, and features options like burritos, tortas, and tacos. Order the achiote grilled chicken if you go the taco or burrito route." - Will Kamensky
"Comal Next Door is the little sibling of one of our favorite restaurants in Berkeley, Comal, which is in fact next door. This spot is much more casual than its older counterpart, but the food is still excellent. Instead of shareable things like albondigas and carts bringing around chips and guacamole, Comal Next Door is counter service only and has simpler dishes like tacos and burritos. We like the achiote grilled chicken in ours, and the al pastor is great, too. Also, you can still get guacamole, it just won’t be wheeled to you on a cart." - Will Kamensky
