"There's an obsession in preserving childhood for adults, and Cone does this with Irish-inspired creations. The “Banshee” sundae features ice cream covered in Lucky Charms. It’s magically delicious." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff

"Cone is an Irish-themed ice cream shop in the West Loop. (The theme has more to do with the owners being Irish than any particular obsession with the Blarney Stone or Liam Neeson, as far as we know.) Come here and order the “Shamrock,” which is soft-serve covered in Lucky Charms, or the “Cone O’Flake,” i.e. soft serve topped with an Cadbury Flake bar. They also have a backyard that you can reserve for parties." - Adrian Kane

Google
Amazed by this ice-ice Cream! You must get the Guinness, Baileys, and Jameson. Now, my person favorite is the Lemon (Fruit ice) Sorbet. It used to be the ice cream flight with above flavors and Netflix & chill, Cinnamon (no longer available). It should be nice to select better music.

Google
I’ve never been to an Irish ice cream shop but this one is great! Fun flavors and vegan/dairy free options in a separate case.

Ivan Corona

Google
There's nothing gourmet about this place, and the ice cream is extremely expensive. I came in here without even asking for the price, thinking it would be a regular price like most places. To my surprise, I ended up paying around $13 for two scoops of ice cream. Also, as other reviews are saying, one employee was on her phone and didn't even acknowledge our presence when we arrived. She clearly does not want to be there and didn't even say hi.

Suomirakastaa

Google
We got the flight of 4 ice cream flavors for $9. The Golden Cone was smack you in the face sweet, the pistachio was super green and clearly artificially colored/flavored, the oreo cheesecake was balanced with it not being overly oreo or overly cream cheese, and the caramel macchiato had a lovely strong coffee flavor. I would have liked it better if it was just coffee...no caramel. But, I'm sure I'm in the minority here. Lol

Google
Stop by for some yummy treats in West Loop. They have nice flavors and for those who can't choose there's an option of 4 mini scoops. Interiors have a soothing retro vibe and they also have an outdoor patio. Parking isn't available for visitors in the lot behind the building so you'd have to rely on street parking. They also provide pick-up and delivery services.

Google
Fun ice cream store with lots of interesting options. This is the Leprechaun Tracks which my wife got - she let me try it and it was delicious! I chose a chocolate soft serve which was good, but I probably should have been more adventurous and gotten one of their unique flavors like Elvis or Cookie Monster.

I can't visit a city without making one ice cream stop! We stumbled upon Cone, an Irish ice cream shop, as my bus drove by it on our way to one of our locations, so we backtracked it afterwards and it didn't disappoint. They have a lot of unique flavors! I had the Netflix and Chill and it was so good.

Google
Icecream was really okay! The place seems njce and server was sweet person. But the quality of ice cream was really average.

Sheila C.

Yelp
Best mint chocolate chip in the entire city. They get the ice cream from Plush Horse on the southside which is the best. They also have an amazing taco spot on the weekends in their side patio.

Steve A.

Yelp
For sure it's good ice cream but is it worth it? It can get expensive for small portions. Cone Gourmet is located on Madison in West Loop. Good place for hipsters to show off pics with them eating ice cream. The place has kind of an Irish theme. A popular place in a popular area. It's not that big so it may be impossible to get a seat inside. There's a few by the window. Has a pretty good amount of flavors. It's about $6 a scoop. A lot for a little. There's a few vegan flavors and sorbets including the Pomegranate Iced Tea. Has a lot of Irish flavors. There's ones made with Bailey's and more. Cool place literally. It's expensive but the flavors are good especially if you like Irish stuff. There's even a few sorbets for vegans.

Vivian L.

Yelp
Wanted a little treat after brunch so my friends and I went to this ice cream shop. Honestly nothing too crazy about it. The ice cream was good and they had plenty of flavors to choose from. You can try before you buy. The guy working was really chill. They also had ample seating. The price for ice cream at these small shops always throw me off because it just seems so expensive for a single scoop of ice cream but that's about it lol

Talena H.

Yelp
It's a cute little ice cream place they only had two vegan flavors which was OK.. not really worth the price. It was almost 8 dollars for one little scoop and it wasn't that great.

Linda Y.

Yelp
What a cute little local spot for ice cream! I've been hunting for soft serve and this place had some! An underwhelming cone because it's so tiny but fulfills my soft serve needs for now. There are also a variety of other ice cream flavors available as scoops! The vegan coconut tastes like the coconut paletas! If you're on this end of the West Loop and don't feel like trekking to Randolph, try this spot out!

Justine C.

Yelp
Super delicious shop not too far from the busy area of Randolph bars. It had an Irish-esque vibe and I got the mint chocolate ice cream on a cone. My ice cream flavor was perfect and it was great that they offer picnic tables right outside the shop for seating. Great ice cream spot for the good weather!

Andre W.

Yelp
I love my neighborhood ice cream parlor! Always great options even though the cookie monster on a waffle cone is my joint. They have an area on the side where you can enjoy your cold cream sitting down and of course you can walk around the neighborhood and enjoy, like myself. Staff is always helpful in helping you select flavors. There is a flavor flight of four as well if you want multiple tastes. I highly recommend!

C H.

Yelp
Was really nice when they first opened now it's just really overpriced ice cream with bad service. It's a shame my kids used to like this place I don't really think they care it's a prime location of Madison

Pilar G.

Yelp
They have a ton of fun flavors and the staff is knowledgeable about everything. This would be a great place to come if you have allergies because everything is clearly marked and the staff knows the ingredients. Overall this is a cute neighborhood spot with a casual side patio. It can be a little bit on the expensive side for a scoop of ice cream but if you are looking to try a fun flavor, this is the place to go in the area. Tonight I tried Circus Circus which was a frosted animal cracker flavor. They did not have rainbow sprinkles which I found kind of strange for a ice cream shop but it was delicious anyways.

Shane C.

Yelp
Late night dessert. A variety of interesting flavors. The one that caught my eye was cognac and gingerbread, I didn't end up ordering it but maybe next time. We ordered the Cookie Monster and caramel macchiato, both were good! Great service. The shop may seem small but if you walk to the back there's a bigger room. Single scoops $5.30, waffle cones $1.50 and toppings $1. It is family owned and located in a popular area. Would try again!

Clarissa H.

Yelp
It's ice cream season! Cone is a gourmet local ice cream shop located in the west loop. Their ice cream is rich, creamy, and they have a great selection of flavors. You can even choose to get a flight of 4 if you can't pick just one! I ordered the pomegranate blueberry ice cream, which tasted like black raspberry but more fruity. They let you sample flavors which I love. There is some indoor seating, and there is also a cute patio with picnic tables.

Ava B.

Yelp
our friend used to work here so we came to visit one of his old haunts during a stop in chicago on a cross country road trip! good ice cream, but sadly they gave us single scoops instead of kids' scoops without telling us so ice cream was more expensive than anticipated. would still recommend!

Tyga M.

Yelp
There was one poor worker who had to deal with a 15+ customers alone on a Sunday afternoon during a holiday weekend. I didn't have time to stand and wait, so I went elsewhere.

Vincent S.

Yelp
I stopped in during lunch for a delicious ice cream cone. However, I was a bit turned off by the cleanliness of the ice cream case. The glass looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a while.

Joanna W.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that their ice cream is 10/10 delicious. However, I just tried to go in and purchase some It's Yo Birthday and Cookie Monster ice cream and they were out of it because "they had a busy 4th of July weekend." Unforgivable.

Bindal S.

Yelp
This is such a cute little ice cream shop with such great ambiance and even has a great spit with outdoor seating. The staff here is always awesome and very cheerful and nice. The ice cream flavors are also very tasty and unique. Love this ice shop and would recommend checking it out!

Caroline P.

Yelp
We passed on Jeni's when we saw the line down the block, so we were delighted to find another place that looked great close by. The women working here looked stressed, hot and over it. No line, which was great, but when I asked which flavors they were out of, they waved at the cooler and said "anything that's not there". Ohhhkay. There might have 5 flavors left. Tragic and bottom of the barrel. Maybe the owners should have more supply on hand. And maybe have a convo with their employees to have a personality and be actually helpful to the people who are paying. Just sayin. I do not recommend. Bummer.

Padma A.

Yelp
On 55F degree promised my daughter and her friends ice cream... I got the chocolate brownie ice cream and they got a blue color cookie's and cream. The quality was good, we will certainly come back!

Yura L.

Yelp
Cute and friendly neighborhood ice cream shop. They have their own patio and walk up area. I ordered a flight (4 mini flavors) for $8 and enjoyed it! I ordered Bee sting, vegan cookies and cream, blood orange sorbet, and lavender ginger. They gave me extra of green tea bc I didn't know which 4 to choose. We had side of gummies to enjoy! All was delicious! They were really busy when we arrived at 7pm but everyone was so friendly. Will be back!

Jim D.

Yelp
Meh! Price was high, I mean it's in west loop down the street from Monteverde so Twas to be expected. The flavors were a nice amount to choose from. Staff was dry. The actual ice cream was ok, sounded like some fun & different flavors but after tasting it I was convinced I wouldn't return. The one pro was that there's adjacent patio which is prey epic. The view is decent as far as wanting to people watch

Jisha J.

Yelp
Delicious! And such a good location on Madison. We ate poké and walked over to this place. So many yummy sounding flavors. I got this delicious "Not your mama's brownie" which was chocolate brownie ice cream with brownie chunks. Definitely a place to visit!

Rima S.

Yelp
Great ice cream ! Nothing else to say idk why it's making me write more than this but I have nothing else to say

Maitri S.

Yelp
I've had ice cream from here a few times and every times it's good. They're consistent with their flavors and even offer a variety of vegan/dairy free options. The mint chip is my favorite (the Cookie Monster is over hyped and I don't recommend) The prices are kinda expensive for the ice cream but you do get a a lot so it evens out. They also have a very cute outdoor patio with lights and tables. Next time I want to try one of their sundaes!

Holly S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite ice cream spots in the city! I love their Irish-inspired flavors like Bailey's and Jameson but my all time favorite flavor they have is COOKIE MONSTER. It's bright blue so your blue tongue will leave you feelin like a kid and the flavors are amazing. It's got cookie dough, Oreos, chips ahoy cookies, and more! Another plus is you have so many sundae-type options to add (hot caramel, hot five, a variety of nut options, etc) to any ice cream. Lastly, they have a cute outdoor patio where you can relax with your sweet treat.

Oscar S.

Yelp
Really nice ice cream shop with interesting flavors. My first time ever having ice cream on a red velvet cone.Went with the vegan cocunut ice cream. And Im not even vegan. But it was absolutely delicious.Im up and down the city all the time. This place just made it on my MUST RETURN list.Definitely an enjoyable experience. They DO NOT accept cash just fyi.Thumbs up!!!!

Michelle W.

Yelp
Great selection of ice cream flavors! Server was friendly and fast! Enjoyed our time in Chicago.

Alison J.

Yelp
I seriously don't understand why you'd invest in the rent, real estate, decor, etc only to have tiny print menus posted in the back. I also don't understand how such unfriendly people can work at an ice cream shop! I *only* asked if they were doing samples because a lot of places still aren't and the guy looked like he was going to start a fight with me while rolling his eyes and giving me so much attitude. I mean, I get there's a labor shortage...but....there's also such a thing as human decency. I had another question but seriously thought this guy was going to punch me so I didn't ask it. Anyway, what I don't understand the MOST is the hair in my ice cream!!!!! Gross!!!! And yeah...as the reviews here already say....the ice cream is pretty mediocre. Cheap cream, etc. So, all around a pretty bad experience.

Chad P.

Yelp
Stumbled here after walking through the neighborhood looking for something sweet. It was kind of cold outside so I was reluctant to go in for more cold, but the place was so cute from the outside, I gave it a shot. They had many different flavors to choose from and they were all interesting and unique. The nice guy behind the counter recommended the bee sting. I tried it out and it was great! Sweet and spicy at the same time! I loved it. Overall excellent service with excellent flavors. Definitely a great addition to the neighborhood.

Amy L.

Yelp
Here's the scoop! I had a scoop of their ice cream-technically it was sorbet but it was v yum. Super sweet. Place seemed poppin cuz I mean it's summer. Nice of them to put out water for all the thirsty people in this toasty Chicago weather. They are following v good social distancing and literally u just slide ur card in machine and bam u get ur ice cream and you on ur way. Or, stay and sit one their benches right outside :) Silly lick me I'm Irish logo

Chris B.

Yelp
Came here around 10pm on June 3rd. There were 2 very young men working behind the counter. Only 2 other customers (two young women) in the store already served and eating their ice cream. Both of the employees behind the counter ignored myself and my friend as we waited to place our order. Instead, the two young men directed all their attention at flirting with the two women eating their ice cream at a table. We stood there for several minutes waiting for service from one of the two employees in an otherwise largely empty store. Mediocre ice cream and absolutely terrible service. Go to Jeni's just a few blocks away. Better ice cream, better service.

Paige D.

Yelp
This place is cute. The Netflix and chill is my favorite flavor they have. They have some very unique flavors and offers but overall pretty good. Make sure you try before you commit to one if you don't like unique flavors. They're a bit pricy but it's a small business and justifies the price (at least for me). They could do something better with their side seating room. It's a bit bleak so I'd recommend eating outside on their patio if it's warm enough.

Andy N.

Yelp
We passed by Cone our way over to dinner one night and knew we wanted to come back for a visit afterwards. This cute little shop shares affinity towards my favorite color green for the sake that they are an Irish owned business with many Irish influenced flavors. Sign me up! Inside the shop are two main sections where you're able to pick out and sample some of their in-house ice cream flavors. With ones ranging from "Irish Mint Chip" to boozy fellows Jameson and Guinness, your curiosity will linger to really figuring out which ones you want. I tried the later and definitely recommend our whiskey friend over the country's beer staple if you were to pick one or the other. Now, the ice cream was pretty good but it didn't have that same artisan texture or quality that I'm used to at other fancy ice cream parlors. Some flavors tasted like they had just added flavoring to vanilla ice cream. One scoop sets you back $4.75 and they do not allow you to do "half scoops" of two flavors. Bummer! Being a smaller shop too, they also seem to take care of multiple guests at a time which can be cumbersome if you're trying to sample while picking our your actual final flavor verdict. Overall, good ice cream shop with Irish flavors but you'll probably find better quality ice cream elsewhere.

Ana M.

Yelp
Great icecream! Love the inside and outside seatings - also love the name of the ice creams! Very kid friendly, delicious & good sugar cone too!

Nolan F.

Yelp
Great ice cream shop on a (Madison) street of restaurants! It's a small space so depending on busyness, you may have to eat to go. I think the uniqueness of their ice cream is it is not as sweet as most other ice cream shops. That probably appeals to parents the most. It has a thick, slow churned consistency. I don't think they use anything fancy like African vanilla bean but whatever. I like their Bailey's Irish cream flavor!

Megan T.

Yelp
Fantastic ice cream but the service is not great. I've been here twice & both times it's only been one man in the store. He has always been very rude & curt. Why would you want to work in an ice cream store if you're not going to be kind & inviting? Both times, I walked in and said "hello, how are you?" & I was ignored on both occasions. Both times I also asked if they were doing samples yet and both times he cut me off and snapped, "no." The first time I was here I asked him for recommendations and he straight up ignored my question. Both times I left the store with great ice cream but a terrible annoyance of how I was treated as a customer. I don't understand how this is acceptable.

Michelle G.

Yelp
I get why they limit customers to trying five samples, but it is a little disappointing. They have lots of lovely and intriguing flavors, and it seems silly that the reason I'd be stuck with one I don't love is because of their limit. The staff was nice though, and as polite as they could be, so not a knock on them. Just a lame policy. My friend and I ended up sharing two scoops - one of Jameson and one of Marshmallow Delight. The Jameson was altogether too boozy for me, and the Marshmallow Delight was good but not great. I had to pick it because I'd tried five flavors and not Loved any, and this one was okay. All in all, I'd pass by if I was in the mood for ice cream and not too far, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go here. I do appreciate their array of flavors and the fact that they have toffee caramel soft serve. The promise of something better makes it likelier I'll give this place another chance, so I like that.

Rosy L.

Yelp
I really want to like this place because honestly, who doesn't like ice cream? However I've been here twice and each time I've gotten a weird feeling (hard to explain). There is really nothing gourmet about this place. I feel like they tried to make it a cute little ice cream parlor, but things just feel a little off to me. They have some seating, but the tables seem to be dirty. They also have some throw pillows lying around on the benches but those are covered with spills and look like they haven't been washed in ages. The most recent time I came here was on a Saturday night. The line was pretty long and went into the back room. While waiting, we were able to see the back. There was a larger room with some larger tables- I'm assuming this is for parties? The line moved pretty quickly though but from there, there was no way to see all the flavors available. Usually at ice cream shops, I'm able to make a decision while waiting in line, but here, when they asked me what I wanted, I had absolutely no idea because I couldn't even see the list. As for the ice cream- they have a wide variety of flavors. However they're all named very unique names that make it hard to know what the exact flavor of the ice cream is. I got the 101 Dalmatians, which is like a cookies n creme. My fiancé got the Bailey's ice cream. We both asked for it as a shake since we didn't want to deal with melting and stickiness, and they looked at us like we were crazy for ordering the shake. I mean, it's on their menu so why is it surprising that people will ask for it? I do like that they have an outdoor seating area, but it was pretty crowded when we were there.

Cathy H.

Yelp
One of the influencers I follow on Instagram, @suzywitdascoop, posted about her visit to Cone Chicago. Perfect spot for my boyfriend and I to try (we don't play about our rainbow sherbet). Small cute ice cream shoppe. I ordered the green apple sherbet (I really wanted the passion fruit sherbet but it was sold out) and my boyfriend got the birthday cupcake ice cream. Both were soo good. His birthday cupcake ice cream wasn't too sweet. He really enjoyed it. The green apple sherbet wasn't too tart. It was so refreshing eat on that hot summer afternoon. One thing I'm not crazy about is the parking. This is a neighborhood ice shoppe. Most of their customers are walking as they live around the corner. We had to park a couple of blocks away because west loop parking in general sucks. If you don't live in the area, you're circling the block for parking.

Novita W.

Yelp
Overprice & ice cream nothing special. Staff isn't professional. Jeni's ice-cream on Randolph is better.

KELLY M.

Yelp
Third time coming here. I was around the area and decided to come to this place for some sweet. I would say they have some unique flavor of ice cream. I got the one with peanut butter and chocolate chips on a cake cone. Yum. It was delicious. Forgot the name of it but I remember the flavor. You need to download the scan code app in order to see the menu. And enter on the side when there is outdoor seating there is a walkway where you go and you will see a window.

Daniela S.

Yelp
Super cute location on Madison St, right next to Black Barrel Tavern and a few boutiques. They have vegan options (I loved the Oreo). I would like to return to try the flight!

Christina S.

Yelp
"C is for Cookie and Cookie is for ME!!!!" According to childhood favorite Cookie Monster from Sesame Street...I love how he says "Me want cookie!" "Me EAT cookie!" then when he devours his cookies..one after another while uttering...."Om ..nom..nom..nom!" between bites! This review is for is for the Cookie Monster Ice Cream.... Vanilla blue ice cream...super creamy full of chunks of cookie dough, oreos, and chips ahoy cookies....."Om...nom...nom...nom" is all I had to say as I savored each delicious bite of this incredibly creative and delicious flavor of ice cream. I want to return and try their Irish Soft Serve (Custard) dipped in Lucky Charms. I found out about this place on the Local Chicago Food Show..."Chicago Eats!" Easy to reach on the #20 Bus straight along Madison to the West Loop. Dogs are allowed outside in the attached gated picnic table seating. Do not want to go inside..go to the "Walk Up Window" on the side...how cool and creative the place is and the ice cream.... The good news is I got a pint of the the Cookie Monster ice cream so I can ...."Om...nom...nom.." for several days. For old time's sake..let's sing along..."C is for Cookie" with Mr. Cookie Monster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye8mB6VsUHw

Aarti B.

Yelp
Delicious home-made ice cream. Try a sample of the Bailey's flavor - it'll be begging you for more! Although I opted for the bright blue Cookie Monster loaded with cookie dough and Oreo, I was kicking myself for not getting Bailey's. Next time! The housemade waffle cone was delicious and didn't break or leak. There's also a nice patio perfect for your furry friend!

C.C. H.

Yelp
Shop clerks seem well-meaning, but they do not know how to manage an influx of people on a Sunday afternoon. Folks just clumped up at the ice cream case and were helped out of order. Ice cream was decent, but over-priced, almost twice the price of Oberweis for half the portion and ice cream that was just not as well-churned. They do have a nice little yard on the side with outdoor seating. I expect West Loop prices at West Loop quality.

Nerissa T.

Yelp
Lots of unique flavors! From Irish mint to Arthur Guinness, how perfect to come in for St. Patty's day. Even though those sounded tempting, I ended up not being festive and got the Netflix 'n chill (buttered popcorn ice cream w/ m&m's). Sounds weird but somehow it works. I got a single scoop in a cup and it ended up being $5.30, which is quite pricey for just average ice cream. The staff wasn't friendly at all, seemed like they didn't want to be there. No smiles, nothing. Didn't even ask if we wanted to try any flavors. Not what you would expect from an ice cream shop, which is the reason why I knocked off an extra star.

Elaine H.

Yelp
I think the ice cream here is very good quality but their sundaes are weirdly packed into a cup with all the syrups at the bottom and hard ice cream preventing one from eating it all at once. It is like an immovable parfait. You eat each thing one layer at a time with the center all ice cream and nothing else. Nice service, nice outdoor space, high quality ice creams.

R E.

Yelp
Ice cream was creamy and flavorful. Pricey, but whatcha gonna do. Ice cream sandwich with chocolate chip cookies was ok. Ice cream was great, but the cookie was mediocre. Also, it was impossible to eat. Would avoid. Service in store is super slow so you're better off ordering delivery or pickup if you have the time

Claire G.

Yelp
After a long day of walking in the heat my family wanted a cold treat before leaving the city. This is an Irish ice cream shop and there were a lot of Irish inspired flavors! Everyone was satisfied. I had the Oscar the Grouch and it was so good! There was amaretto in it along with cookie chunks and candy pieces. It was fantastic and truly unique! I would come back. They also have an out door patio that can be enjoyed or reserved for parties.

Emily D.

Yelp
This place has many unique ice cream flavors (in fact, you should be warned - they don't have most traditional flavors like chocolate and vanilla). They do a great job of making each flavor taste strongly like its description. I tried the movie popcorn, but it was definitely too buttery for my taste. I also tried the root beer which was too much for me to order a whole cup of but definitely tasted like root beer. I ended up ordering the Cookie Monster. I loved the flavor of the ice cream itself and especially appreciated how smooth it was. The cookie dough was also better than most I've had before. Overall, I enjoyed my Cookie Monster ice cream. I love unique flavors but some were jus too strong or strange for me. But if I was in the area, I would stop again!
