Highlights

At Copper Fox Distillery, we dedicate ourselves to making great whisky & spirits. Our style emphasizes a combination of innovation and Scottish tradition to produce a whisky that is truly unique. We are the only distillery in North America to hand malt our own barley, and the only distillery on the planet to use apple and cherry wood smoke to flavor the malted barley. Our single-batch copper potstill produces one barrel at a time and the spirit is non-chill filtered to preserve the complete flavor and essence of the barley grain. We offer tours every day at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM, no reservation needed. Cocktails, flights and bottle sales available. Our cocktail garden overlooks the Thornton River. We also have indoor seating as well. Located in a renovated apple cider factory, our Sperryville location is a special and unique place to visit located across from the gates of Shenandoah National Park.

If you’re coming to Shenandoah, Luray, or anywhere close, make Copper Fox a must do visit. We started with the tour, which was both informative and entertaining, and then enjoyed a rest by the water. The ambiance inside the distillery is casual and fun, plenty of seating to relax and enjoy a drink, or on a nice day, sit outside. The service was excellent. As for the whisk(e)y, top notch. Even if you’re not a fan, the enjoyment of sampling a flight and comparing notes and differences between them is a fun time. Their charcuterie board was excellent and a great way to slow down the flight and cocktails and enjoy a moment of peace outside. Two thumbs up!

Google
Great cocktails with a fun, rustic, indoors space and cute river running through the back. Definitely worth a visit.

Angela Z-Frace

Google
It’s a very nice distillery you would want to come and sit by the creek enjoying the tranquil sound of the water running. It’s so soothing after a long hike. Get some refreshments or drinks. Hubby says the cocktails are very very good! 👍

Trey Haugen

Google
Great cocktails, amazing space (inside and outside), and very friendly and attentive staff. HIGHLY recommend! They are also very dog-friendly inside and outside!

Stopped here while on a Route 211 winery tour. Beautiful rustic location. We got a flight of whiskey, all good, but the cinnamon whiskey was very good.

Sarah Cabino

Google
This place has a great vibe and awesome whisky sours. I highly recommend you take your drink out back and sit by the creek. Service was really slow when we went but that was because it was busy, which doesn't surprise us because it is an awesome spot!

Lisa Ambrose

Google
Awesome experience! Beautiful location with great spirits and service. Highly recommend the cocktails. Our group tried the new painkiller and it was delicious! Very dog friendly and the outside space is absolutely beautiful. Would visit again!

Google
Great stop if you are out exploring near Shenandoah NP like we were. The ambiance is fantastic, outdoor seating is superb, and the whiskey and cocktails are great. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Recommend a stop-in if you are nearby.

Yelp
I have no idea how this place is in such a small town, but what an incredible surprise! I didn't get nearly enough pictures to do this place justice, but if you're near Sperryville this distillery is a must-stop! The interior is very cool, and being able to have some DELICIOUS drinks seated next to a running stream at sunset... C'mon. Never would I have expected something like this in a town of this size. It's worth going out of your way to stop in!

Stephanie K.

Yelp
This is a must try! We almost did not and I am so happy we made the decision to stop in. The inside is a nice rustic feel. The back is alongside a creek that you sit by and can see the mountain. By far the best view in Sperryville. They do table service which was a great surprise so you can sit down and someone will serve you. The drinks were also great and I am not a huge fan of whiskey. We will definitely be back next time we are in that area.

Anusha V.

Yelp
Really great spot with great flights and cocktails. It has a quirky and unique ambiance which makes for great pictures! They also have a really great outdoor which was picturesque. The people were friendly and the service was quick. You could also bring in your own snacks as long as it's not hot food. Would definitely recommend visiting if you're in the area!

Barry H.

Yelp
Great little place in the middle of nowhere. Sperryville is a nice location especially in the fall with a bunch of small shops.

Nora Z.

Yelp
Great whiskey and service! They even offered a few mocktails that I enjoyed as the driver. If the weather is nice, I'd definitely recommend sitting outside by the river, you can't beat the ambiance!

Alicia M.

Yelp
Flights to delight! Don't let the outside fool you, it is another world inside. You are greeted by Midnight and Steve, the distillery cats who are happy to direct you to your seats and are all about making you feel welcome. There are water dishes and dog treats as well for our other furry friends. Shawn and Matt will also check in on you frequently, as will Steve the cat. The whiskeys here are smoky and smooth. I also had the gin and it was phenomenal! Not heavy on the juniper at all, definitely a true botanical delight; you can taste the lemon balm, cinnamon, anise and the cacophony of flavors that shout out summer herb garden in your mouth! The converted cider mill tasting area is beautifully appointed with casual card tables reminiscent of times gone by as well as a lovely piano and of course, barrel table tops. You are transported to simpler times and genuine hospitality here. You can slow sip your whiskey and watch the river roll by outside or listen to some home box music indoors. Today was a good day for a hot toddy with Coper Fox Rye, hot apple cider, lemon with cloves. Simple, yet satisfying on a sunny winter day that is a touch cool enough to enjoy the liquid warmth of the toddy. I think I may have another before we depart. Do pick up a few bottles as they are already out of the Dawson's reserve.

Shawn K.

Yelp
You might be a little leery prior to going in. Maybe just slightly. Don't be. You'll know once you get inside. Oh the smells. I think it's the barrels. It smells amazing inside. They have a little store where you can buy merch. My brothers bought a few items. Two of my brothers bought both of the whiskey flights; they seemed to really enjoy them. My other brother and friend got mixed drinks without alcohol (long drives and all). They said they were fantastic. This place is very rustic. The furniture choice is amazing, very eclectic. They've sourced the tables/chairs from several locations. Outside there's great seating options and a little crick that runs through. We all agreed this was a fantastic place to visit.

Yelp
Worth the drive! Kind servers. Refreshingly delicious cocktails and yummy flights!! So glad you'll made it through the pandemic!! Hope to visit again soon!!

Yelp
I've gone here a couple of times now at least four and have enjoyed many of their drinks. I also tasted one of their flights. On this most recent trip I tried the Ward 8 and what jumped out at me was that it had grenadine in it and I'm akin to that flavor. So, I ended up getting the drink and then once my other friends tried it, we ended up ordering three more of those. Overall, a great place to visit, sit in the back and there's a creek of water and, there's sometimes music playing. Whether it's the spring summer or winter, you can't go wrong and come here to try their drinks. I've bought some drinks from here in the past for some friends as presents and my other friends seem to stock up on their liquor. We enjoy coming here at least 3 to 4 times a year and make it one of our stops when we're out visiting this area. We live about an hour and a half away so we usually pile up a car and make our way down here with at least four to six people. We first stop by and get some food in our bellies at a local pizza place, then come here and then end up at a winery.

Yelp
on Thursday, 07 March, 2024, we arrived to order 4 beverages at 6:44 pm. We had 16 more minutes to order at the Happy Hour special. we asked if the old Fashions were $8. The answer was yes. upon paying, my husband didn't look at the receipt until later, we discovered NO we did not get a discount. We called to no avail & actually stopped by on Friday, 08. We were informed that we were told incorrect & they didn't compensate. We will NOT return. Micah was pretentious & it was she who gave us the information.

Melanie R.

Yelp
We had the premium and flagship flights along with some cheese and crackers, and were charmed... so charmed we ended up buying four bottles, including two of the expensive ryes. They're just as good at home, by the way. Staff was terrific too. Definitely will return.

Tony W.

Yelp
Fascinating whisky manufacturing process. The staff and crew were very nice. I would go again anytime.

Colin D.

Yelp
This is a great place to come and hang out for a while with good--if not amazing--whiskey and cocktails while enjoying the sound of a gurgling creek under the shade of large trees. It's really hard to complain about any of that. We were able really enjoy the time by the creek outdoors with the kids watching some TV on tablets and we wound up taking two bottles of yummy whiskey home which we've had while we played board games for the ~6 months since. They were also incredibly good about COVID giving us our space and letting us stay outside. Even putting our drinks on a separate table 10-15' away from us and letting us come and get them. We will definitely be back.

Lisa O.

Yelp
I'd give zero stars. All staff pretty much a**holes! Must be making a killing if they're able to treat people so rudely. The only reason I'm sitting here is cuz my husband wants a drink. Well the server was nice

K C.

Yelp
What can I say, I love whiskey so this place is heaven. Cool vibe and relaxing setting, awesome whiskey and staff.

Deb W.

Yelp
We have been to quite a few distilleries but this one left us feeling unimpressed. The gentleman at the counter didn't even seem to care that we were there and we were the only ones in the joint (besides some folks drinking out back). We had the premium tasting and the flavors were just okay. They may had been better if the overall experience of customer service was better. They did have some merchandise for sale. We left buying nothing, which is unusual for us and have no desire to go back.

William J.

Yelp
Rustic cool place to hang out. Had a better than average Old Fashion and enjoyed a premium flight. Definitely recommend stopping in.

Mike B.

Yelp
This Distillery is in this little alcove with an antique shop, a brewery, a pocket sized ceramics studio and shop, and a couple of other things that are escaping my memory. Ring the doorbell to get in. The giant VERY antiqued door takes some special finessing, and they'll do that for you. Me and T did a tasting of some of the straight liquors while we were here. And to be honest, I wasn't really dissapointed or adverse to anything we tasted. I believe we tasted Rye, Whiskey. I know we tasted Gin. The woman who was leading our taste was so patient and kind. That really made the whole experience worth while. We kept vacillating on which tasting we should do, and how we should structure it. And she was just a truly wonderful guide. Overall, the liquors are pretty expensive if you'd like to buy any of the bottles. Definitely more special occasion drinking for me. That being said, they have some beautiful bottles, really high quality spirits. PLUS there's a little creek in the back, and when it's spring, I'm sure it's pretty lively out there. In the winter, it's not too shabby for taking perfect instagram photos as well. Would definitely love to stop back here and try some of their cocktails when we have time. We stopped by here on the way to The Inn At Little Washington. Definitely glad that we did!

Yelp
Copper Fox is a great place for cocktails in Sperryville / Rappahannock County! I didn't try any whiskey flights, but their cocktails are out of this world, and well worth the $10. Copper Fox also has a a great vibe both inside and out - especially on a nice day you can sit out back by the river and it's ideal. Inside there is an area to buy their whiskey and other related merch that I wish I had more time to check out. They close at 6, so make sure to try and get there a bit before to enjoy it! Finally, the bartender/owner, whose name I didn't catch, is great - super inviting, nice, and made me feel right at home. I am definitely stopping by next time I am in the area.

Shannon S.

Yelp
So this was a 50/50 deal for us. The product is great and deserves the 5 star status but the service and "closed off ness" was really not good. Especially after just coming from Ragged Branch, the striking difference between an Open-For-Business and super friendly place and this place was real. Astonishing: the 8-10 people who were there today had occupied the four 2-top tables available so we sat at a 6 top down by the creek, of which there were two, both empty on a Sunday afternoon. After being greeted by the hostess and given waters and tasting menus, our came a little waiter fellah who told us we'd have to move because these tables were reserved for parties of 6. "There are no parties of six anywhere around, I notice." I said. But he insisted we needed to move and wait for an open table. We did, and after a while a couple of chairs opened up on the porch. Naturally, no parties of six came to occupy the sacred 6 tops. We were perplexed at the 1/4 ounce pours on the flight as well as the fact that bar and merch areas were all roped off. No bourbon, no single malt and no Rye available either??? Seems like they could use a mentor or some training on how to operate a customer-centered retail location. We might buy a bottle at the ABC store but we certainly will not be back to the distillery. Too bad. We came to buy today but will leave empty handed. ---

Nikki J.

Yelp
Cute place hidden in the mountains. We sat right by the creek which was beautiful. They do close early, and we got there about 30mins before closing so we didn't get to try a lot. I got an old fashioned which was delicious. I'll have to come back to try other cocktails!

Glenn C.

Yelp
Great find. The whiskey is amazing and the site is comfortable and interesting. I enjoyed a flight of four premium whiskeys while my wife had a delicious hot toddy. I ended up purchasing a bottle of the apple brandy barrel cured rye whiskey. The flavors of this whiskey are slightly sweet with a nice fruity taste.

Yelp
We've been to Sperryville tons of times, especially over the past 5 years, but have never visited Copper Fox Distillery, until this past weekend. While in the area, we stopped in. I was an interesting visit; first, we arrive at the door and there's a sign to ring the doorbell and someone looks through the peep door to see who's there and open the door. Upon entering, they give a menu and explain where the restrooms, store and seating is located. Seating here was amazing, as it's right on the Thornton River, which runs through their backyard. They have several tables out there along the bank of the river, as well as several more back against the building, under some canopies. Their back yard area has beautiful sounds from the river's water running over the rocks as well as amazing views of the farm behind them and the mountain range off in the distance... definitely an amazing place to sit & sip! The staff is helpful and friendly, as well as knowledgeable about their menu... but not so knowledgeable about their website nor the offering on their site, as there was a cocktail kit being sold on their site that I asked about (which was supposed to come with a recipe card), the cashier wasn't aware of what I was referring to at all, but I still bought the liquid components of the "kit" just without the recipe card that was supposed to accompany it. The quality of their spirits was nice and definitely worked very well with their cocktails! They have a really nicely laid out menu with awesome cocktails in it as well! Overall, we loved our visit and can't wait to return!

David S.

Yelp
Honestly one of the best American distilleries I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Their whisky is smoked, and aged incredibly well. The gin is outstandingly different than what you normally find. You can get flights, along with some fun cocktails. It's in the middle of nowhere, and that kind of adds to the experience. Sit outside and enjoy the mountain atmosphere. I recommend the old fashioned, it might be one of the best you'll ever have.

Jason ..

Yelp
Great local, family-oriented distillery! Cool tour of the facility and history of the distillery. Enjoy a tasting or cocktail in the back near the stream!

Andrew J.

Yelp
A true gem of Sperryville. We enjoy sitting out back and having cocktails right along a creek. They are very dog friendly and servers come to take your order outside. Their whiskey is great. This isn't a touristy distillery that makes sub-par liquor. Their stuff is really good and also resonantly priced. Their list of cocktails is great. Not much good but a few snacks including cheese and crackers.

Brian H.

Yelp
We visited on Mother's Day 2023. Door was open so we walked in and was chastised immediately after asking a male host (young guy brown hair with a mustache wide hat) if it was okay that we walked in since the door was opened. Pretty rude attitude towards us from then on. The place was empty and we sat by the water for cocktails, which were delicious. Overshadowed by the host chastising us again for rejecting a high top table we couldn't sit at since we had a baby and made no attempt to be accommodating, actually the opposite when we grabbed a chair from a empty table to sit at a table by the water. He proceeded to act like we had broken some unspoken rule and told us we had to put the chair back since the tables were all designated seating. I understand that if it had been a busy day but to make zero effort to offer any alternative or accommodation and speak in a rude tone when we were being understanding and pleasant about it ruined the experience for us. Maybe he was having an off day, we are all entitled to a few of those. Maybe we will come back once this experience has faded.

Yelp
Copper Fox is the dominant part of the Blue Ridge Whisky Wine Loop in Sperryville, VA. It's mysterious and chill. This Distillery is nestled into the backyard of a dirt road. With a huge wooden barn door like entrance, guests have to ring a doorbell to enter. Inside, looks like a warehouse with many random antiques. Usually, one staff member works at a time. The service is always extremely professional, but very casual. Copper Fox has a tour, tasting, cocktail bar, and a merchandise store. We did the tasting. The bourbons were smoky, distinct, and one of a kind. They were sold out of the peach bourbon when we went (which was due to popularity). We then had a few cocktails, which is a must if you want the whole Copper Fox experience. I chose a spicy honey whisky cocktail and my husband chose a blow torch induced smoky bourbon, neat. My husband had two, he liked it so much. My spicy honey cocktail was the highlight of my visit. Spicy and sweet!! The cocktails are seasonal and are subject to change. You won't find a more crafted and unique cocktail menu than the one here. We took our cocktails out back to enjoy more peace and quiet. The patio overlooks the river. We stayed for an hour because it was so relaxing. Our little pup was also invited in the tasting area and back patio. We purchased the gin and a soft long sleeved shirt. We can't wait to come back when in the area!

Mark J.

Yelp
Decent local distillery. The owner was very nice and friendly. The whisky ("bourbon" that doesn't meet the requirements for bourbon) was decent but way over priced in my opinion. Feel free to check them out and make your own Yelp review but overall it was just an average experience for me. Having said that, I've been to the whisky trail in KY and Jack Daniels in TN so that's what i'm comparing it to in my mind. This is not that type of place. This is a very small operation apparently. It felt like more of a rustic tasting room than a distillery.

Steve H.

Yelp
This place was the surprise hit of the whole day. We stopped in on the return drive from LuRay Caverns (it's a cave), and I have to say the Distillery easily made the whole trip worthwhile. We stumbled into what must have been a VIP tour, which was almost a 'Whisky 101" course in itself. Peter walked us through the malting (sprouting/turning over the barley), the smoking/heating, mash tun, fermenter, still, casks, and bottling/sealing. As an aspiring whiskyhead, this was quite the thrill.. the smells, grains, flowing spirits.. Most USA places start with either someone else's spirit, or at least their malts, but this was the top-to-bottom start-to-finish process. You don't see that every day, and it kindof makes sense right there in the Moonshine capital. The tasting was a sweet deal, especially if you go as a couple, because each of you can taste three and share. It's a generous tasting for what, $8? Right about now, they should have their Sunset Bar open behind the distillery, with cocktails and such, but it wasn't quite ready when we were there. We raided the shop.. got some flasks, bottles, home barrel kit.. good times. The Rye Whiskey and Single Malt bottles were about $45 each. The special-cask (Port aged) ones were about twice that. I'll let someone else review the Whiskey itself, or wait until Ralphy gets around to it, but I found them pretty flavorful, rich, smokey (wood smoke, not peat smoke), and a bit young/heady. It's a fun dram. Shout-out's to Peter and the Copper Fox crew -- they do good work, and seem to have a good time doing it. Well worth pulling over to check it out.

Matthew F.

Yelp
After a great deal of searching, I finally found a whisky that suits me. Apparently I'm a single-malt type of guy, but lucky for me, that's exactly what Copper Fox specializes in. Copper Fox might be hard to find, since it you won't have any phone signal. It's in a tiny back-area in Sperryville, right across from Pen Druid brewery and a few other shops. Tastings were I think $6. You can get a free 20 minute tour of the facilities, where they go over how they do their magic. I tried 6 tastings; their single malt, the 'Blue Top' single malt (but made in a port style), the Copper Fox rye, a Blue Top Rye port style, and the "1797" bourbon style (technically can't be called a bourbon since it wasn't fermented in new barrels). I even got a splash of their gin. Of these, I liked the single malt whisky the best, and bought a bottle. I thought the 1797 was also excellent; it's name comes from how they use a very old whisky recipe, and it still works! The port styles were a little too sweet for me, and while I didn't dislike their gin, it's nose was too flowery. Last time around I really liked their rye, but maybe my taste buds have changed a bit. Do the tour; I was in a rush this time but last time I really enjoyed it.

Kathy T.

Yelp
We came here for a tasting and tour. This is my husband's review because I don't like whiskey so even taking tiny sips of his tasting were unpleasant. However, I am interested in all things edible or drinkable so enjoyed learning how they make whiskey on their tour! At $10 for a tasting, and then cocktails available for purchase, them the chance to drink them by a cozy wood stove, it was a fun ambience. Again, better if I liked the product. He liked but didn't love the whiskey.

Anna K.

Yelp
It was super beautiful. The staff was amazing and we had a great time. The seating is outside right by the river. Such an amazing view and ambience.

Rachel A.

Yelp
Visited as big whiskey drinkers. The setting is amazing. Copper Fox is located amongst a little collection of fun businesses that include a brewery and antique stores. You ring a bell for access and enter through giant barn doors into a wonderfully atmospheric warehouse that is dimly.lit and decorated with vintage furniture, whiskey paraphernalia, and miniature train sets! We opted to take a tour of the distillery. Our guide was one of the distillers, which meant he was incredibly knowledgeable about the whole process. We learned that Copper Fox is one of the few distilleries in the US that malts and smokes/dries its own grain, as well as shipping out to other distilleries and breweries (including some of our local favorites in Baltimore!). We also got a very informative and entertaining tour, that I would thoroughly recommend. After the tour, we headed to the tasting bar to try the current liquors on sale. Tastings at distilleries in Virginia are limited to 3oz per person. We did two tastings at $8 for four 1/4oz pours, which allowed the two of us to split our servings to try each of the eight options on offer. We felt the full bottle price for some was a little overpriced, but the regular offerings were delicious and good value. The main area also had a cocktail bar that served some interesting drinks. Note that these still count towards your 3oz total! An Old Fashioned was nice, but I'd have preferred orange peel over an orange slice. My partner had a smoked single malt, which involved a blowtorch and some applewood, and produced a delicious way of drinking an already great whiskey. Despite it being a chilly March day, we slipped out back to finish our drinks. The distillery has a lovely back porch and garden overlooking a small stream, which made for a great spot for relaxing with our drinks. We can't wait to come back in warmer weather!

Debbie F.

Yelp
Love the venue and the staff! Especially the mixologist Matt Berta whenever I have friends in town I bring them here ;)

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
Headed back towards DC after hiking Old Rag? Stop by Copper Fox! I have done an extensive amount of the Bourbon Trail, and I can confidently say that the customer service at Copper Fox is the best I have experienced at a distillery. The interior of their Sperryville location is very homey and comfortable. If you like whiskey, it just smells so dang good. They offer free tours throughout the day as people arrive. They are very relaxed and go through their entire process from obtaining the grain all the way to bottling and waxing. They also offer tastings of four of their products of your choosing for $8. If you are in a group of two, they let you taste all 8 of their products with each of you getting a half serving. Their whiskies are all really, really tasty with their rye whiskey being my favorite. They have a few products with special additions of apple and pear. While I am not normally a fan of gin, their one gin product was well received by our group. After your tasting, they have a bar with a whole slew of delicious cocktails. What I really loved about this place was how kind and knowledgable all of the staff was. In standard VA fashion, they were not pretentious in the slightest and just made you feel right at home. Naturally, I left with three bottles...

Yelp
We've visited this distillery pre-covid and the tour was wonderful then. However, this trip, our tour guide was unprofessional where he used the f-bomb several times during his presentation as well as rudely answered a question when a person in our party asked to see the corn grain. Additionally, this tour guide led us to believe he was in charge of determining when the product was ready to be bottled. Based on our experience of completing 16+ years of distillery tours in Kentucky, the Master Distillery is the person responsible for determining when a product is ready for bottling, unless a barrel was pre-purchased by a consumer. . It appeared the two male staff we came into contact with would benefit from training in customer service. Besides the unprofessionalism of our tour guide, when we were greeted after ringing the door bell, the greeter appeared to be less than enthusiastic to tend to our requests, especially because was wanted a tour and had to wait approximately 40 minutes for the 1:00 p.m. tour. As we waited for the tour, we had both tasting and enjoyed the flavors so much that a total of four bottles of their products, plus the soap, were purchased. Another complaint is Copper Fox charges for the tour and the tasting. Based on our experience, if you pay for a tour, the tasting if free or at an upcharge if you requested a premium tasting. We paid for both the tour and tasting unlike when we visited Filibusters Distillery in Maurertown, VA, where the tour was free and there was a charge for the tasting. Copper Fox was the first craft distillery we visited in VA and KY that charged for a tour and tasting. Normally, the tasting is included in the tour. This distillery would benefit from exposure of attending a craft distillery tour in KY (i.e., James E. Pepper Distillery, Bluegrass Distillery, both in Lexington, KY) or Tall Pines in Salisbury, PA.

Yelp
This was an awesome find. Tucked away mikes from Shenandoah National Park, this distillery is one of a kind. Delicious whiskey and gin but the atmosphere is what made it an all time favorite. Beautiful touches and the river view seals the deal. We will absolutely be back.

Kyle B.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic service. I got a flat tire just down the road. They took me in, lent me tools, helped me out, and served me terrific drinks while I waited for a tow. Loved the atmosphere and the stream in the back. And the whiskey is phenomenal!

Sherry S.

Yelp
What a fun and fun and educational place! 4 tastings for $10, and I'm not sure you'd want any more than that! Apple gave great recommendations on the pours and talked about each one. She's very knowledgeable. She also gives a dynamite tour of the distillery. Having never been to one, I found it fascinating and educational. Highly recommended.

Jon L.

Yelp
How often do you get a chance to check out a whisky distillery? If you are in Kentucy or Tennessee, more often and of course we are talking legal ones, right? Virginia has it's own here in Sperryville. It's easy access off Route 211 and near the Thornton Gap exit on Skyline Drive. Watch for the sign as 211 goes from two to four lanes. They distill Rye Whisky here and they do a good job at it. In Bourbon County Kentucky, the distill true Bourbon Whiskey made from at least 51% corn. But there are other grains despite what the purist may tell you. It's not ritzy or fancy but it's cool to see one that's working. Go check it out!

Yelp
I finally squeezed in a late afternoon trip to Copper Fox Sunday of Halloween weekend. I stopped to try and pet the House Distillery Dog - a really cute Black Labrador, but I was told the tour was starting so I had to abandon that fun. He/She is an adorable Lab! The tour was really interesting and informative. It probably took 20 minutes or so. Out tour guide person was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions our group put forth. Afterward, we got to choose up to three products to taste, I went with the Rye Whiskey with the blue wax label and the regular Rye Whiskey (I already have bottles of the Rye Whiskey and the Single Malt Whiskey at home). Both products I tried were very flavorful - nice depth and character. Almost of a hint of peatiness, even though they don't use peat. Nice smokiness! Everyone working here was really nice! Can't wait to come back with some friends!

Yelp
Where do I begin. Driving through the twisty roads of Virginia and I'm wondering what Jenn and I were getting into. Fear not, this was the top stop of our 3 day mostly wine tour. Peter Morgner was our guide and taste testing expert. The whiskey variety was so enjoyably. I also had their gin which was better than any I've ever had. Peter had never had cheese curds, and on this National Cheese Curd Day, I happened to have Dill Curds from the Alp and Dell in Monroe WI. I can't write enough about how we enjoyed the time we were here. Come, sample, have cocktail and smile as you leave.

Yelp
While staying in Shenandoah, we looked around for things to do that weren't nature hikes and noticed a brochure for a driving tour of all the local wineries... and one distillery. That perked up our ears and we had to check it out. Copper Fox is located in what looks like the rustic back alley of the small town of Sperryville. It was a little tricky to home in on with sporadic cell and GPS service, but we were able to track it down just fine. As soon as we walked into what looked for all the world to be a barn/feed store, we were greeted by the workers who asked if we'd like a tour. The tour was great, starting at one side of the facility where they start the process, and walking all the way to the other end where they finish. Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and while it was clear he had his facts memorized he was also very proud to be showing off their products as he answered our questions. He doubled as our bartender when we paid for four samples each at the end of the tour. I felt bad about not having cash to tip him when we were done, but I was able to add a tip for him when I paid for our bottles at the gift shop on our way out. They have a gorgeous deck and lawn where you can sit and enjoy the rushing river out back, so plan some extra time into your day to relax with your purchases.

Yelp
Such a beautiful atmosphere, staff was amazing and area by the creek was so peaceful! Now serving a cheese plate, which you get a plate and all the items as packaged in the store so you build it yourselves which was fine for us. Cocktails were so good, we did get there toward the end of the day which they did run out of some of the fresh ingredients, such as strawberries, etc.

Yelp
Arrived at 5:40pm, Sunday. Yelp and others said closed at 6pm. The barkeep of sorts rudely said, "We had last call 10 minutes. Did you see the sign? We're closed." Wow. Be nicer, choose your words betters. Or say - considering Yelp and your website says closed at 7pm - "Sorry we just closed. But here's a quick taste. Consider buying a bottle in the store room." Nope. Our first and last visit. Shame, considering we drive past it monthly visiting family.

Yelp
Both my boyfriend and I are huge fans of whiskey, so being in the area, we figured it was a good place to start! The entrance itself was pretty neat, and the second you walk in the atmosphere is great. A warehouse type, with a prohibition era feeling. We started with the tour, and the guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, in a calm way that was very pleasant. We shared a tasting, and this is what we thought: the single malt was our favorite, we weren't huge fans of the rye, and the bourbon mash was actually pretty enjoyable, even being 124 proof! We bought a shirt and a bottle of the single malt, and were overall pretty happy with the experience.

Yelp
A huge complex of buildings. Much under construction. Tasting room is open. Friendly staff. Have tasted before. Good rye and whiskey. We skipped the tasting and shared a mixed drink called the Cherry Blossom. Quite tasty whiskey based. They have corn hole. A toilet room behind the bush and some bling for sale. We picked up a window sticker and some brandied cherries.

Yelp
Took a day to do a number of distillery tours one weekend and ended the trip here. The good: 1. Tasting room and outdoor cocktail garden lended itself to a great atmosphere for relaxing and having a dram 2. Whiskey itself is one of my personal favorite whiskeys to be found in Virginia. Their cocktail choices are good but you should definitely try at least one neat just to get a good idea of how good it is. Tastes a little more like a scotch than a bourbon, which makes sense given their background and techniques. 3. Friendly staff who were super accommodating and happy to show me around 4. Dog friendly, especially good since I showed up with the dog and didn't bother to check before I arrived. Nice to chill in the cocktail garden with my dog. (Dogs, obviously, cannot go on the distillery tour though) The Bad: 1. Not much here. Sperryville is a little off the beaten path but also a really cool little town so just be prepared for the drive and I had no cell signal so again be prepared for that. Or they also have a tasting room in Williamsburg, I am told, so you could try that.
