Stopped by CORD on Fleet Street for a weekday lunch and honestly didn’t expect it to be this busy — or this good. I always assumed people around here would just grab a quick sandwich, but the dining room was full of City workers actually taking their time and enjoying a proper meal.
The space is beautifully designed. You walk in through a casual café area, then further inside it opens up into a calm, elegant dining room. The open kitchen is a great touch — you can see everything happening, which makes the whole experience feel very transparent and relaxed.
Food-wise, everything we ordered was spot on. The A5 Wagyu and bluefin tuna starters were delicate and full of flavour. For mains, the BBQ monkfish was perfectly cooked and the Highland venison en croûte was rich and comforting without being heavy. The peanut soufflé to finish was light, warm and absolutely worth the wait.
It’s rare to find a restaurant of this level right in the middle of the City. If you work nearby and want to slow down for once — whether for a long lunch, a business meal or a quiet date — CORD is well worth a visit.
