Where to Find Bagels in Chicago

"More than 1,000 kettle-boiled bagels fly out the door every day at Corey’s NYC Bagel Deli, a New York-style standby that originally debuted on North Avenue more than two decades ago. The team expanded in 2011 to a second outpost in River North (where they also offer New York pizza by the slice), and both shops do a bustling bagel business with familiar flavors like onion, garlic, and cinnamon raisin." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff

Delicious fresh & soft toasted bagel. Customer service was nice and helpful, the entire staff gives a “thank you” shoutout for tipping.❤️ I ordered a Nova Lox sandwich and it was delicious & satisfying. I chose chive cream cheese and everything was fresh and equally balanced. Their potato salad is mashed, which was a pleasant surprise. Cucumbers were a bit too thick but maybe that’s how they serve it.

Google
Lox bagels are my go-to, so I had to try it at Corey’s. It was good, but I was expecting better. The bagel was kind of hard and stale. At nearly $20, I was expecting warm and fresh bagels. There was a good amount of lox, and I do like how it came with a pickle and side of pasta salad. Not sure I’d get it again. This place is standing only, no seated area for dine-in so plan on getting it to go.

Google
Absolutely delicious bagels - had garlic and herb with lox spread and couldn't have asked for a better offering. Pricing is absolutely perfect (under 10 with a tip too). Incredibly quick service and an exceptional team. Cool, quirky, little corner shop that is WELL worth the visit.

Google
Corey’s NYC Bagels is the real MVP — I’m not even kidding. From the second I walked in, everyone was super cool and friendly, like they actually want you to be there (unlike some of those other bagel spots where you feel like you’re inconveniencing them by ordering food). I got the lox bagel with chive cream cheese, red onion, tomato, and lettuce, and let me just say… this might be the best lox bagel I’ve ever had. The bagel was perfectly chewy, the toppings were fresh and stacked just right, and the whole thing was so good it made me question why I ever bothered with those sad, overpriced lox bagels from other places. You know the ones — bagel falling apart, barely any lox, and you’re basically paying $15 for disappointment. Yeah, not here. Corey’s understands the assignment. And then there’s the New York coffee cake… I would straight-up sell my soul for that crumble cake. I’m talking buttery, moist, perfectly sweet — the kind of cake that makes you stop mid-bite just to process how good it is. Honestly, I’m mad I didn’t buy a second slice. If you haven’t been to Corey’s NYC Bagels yet, you’re missing out. Whether you’re craving an amazing bagel or just need something sweet to make your day better, they’ve got you covered. I’m already figuring out when I can go back — gotta keep that lox bagel in my life!

Once Occupied

Google
DoorDash so didn’t get to check out the storefront, but the food came fast and is delicious. And check out this thick pickle. We got an array of sandwiches and all of them were amazing.

Google
Hands down the best bagels in town. As someone named Corey and also from NY, this place is quite authentic. Dense bagels rich in flavor and texture. Great for making sandwiches or having with tea or coffee. The cream cheeses are great. The chives are my personal favorite and their plain is great too. I definitely recommend them. The garlic bagels are a major hit. Strong flavor without being overpowering, and is great with the chives cream cheese. The cinnamon raisin bagels are awesome by themselves or with the plain cream cheese. The everything bagel is also great. Plenty of all the toppings you want without taking away from the actual flavor of the bagel itself. When I lived in NY I grew up on Bruegger’s Bagels. This place is the only one that can replicate that style and consistently in a bagel. Sincerely a good flavor and mouth feel. A great place to stop by, nice employees, good location and a clean and well kept building.

Google
Got there board head turkey sausage sandwich on a garlic bagel + cinnamon radian bagel with honey walnut spread. It was so good and well made. The staff reminded me of NYC! Great place to get breakfast. They do a stand up seating area but I would say..it’s more of a to go place. There is a small free parking lot outside.

Google
This place is just amazing! The bagels are amazing and fresh. They are toasted perfectly and have a bunch of great flavors!

Yelp
I placed an online order for two breakfast sandwiches and a plain bagel with honey walnut cream cheese. The staff was great and my order was ready on time. The online pickup area was a little confusing at first. It's hidden behind the counter to your right. I ordered two bacon egg and cheese sandwiches on everything, one toasted and one not toasted. The bagel itself was really good. The bacon was crispy and it had a good amount of cheese. Overall a pretty good sandwich. I wouldn't put this place on top of my list for bagels but can definitely see myself returning.
google avatar

Yelp
Great bagels, totally reasonable price! No seating, but very friendly and helpful staff. And delicious and perfectly textured bagels!! We got the whole wheat, raisin, and bagel.

Yelp
This was my first time trying this place, and my experience was good. Great customer service, fast service, and clean. They have a nice selection of sandwiches you can choose from along with vegan options. I tried "The Benny", it's roast beef, with Giardiniera peppers, onions, cheese and a special sauce on toasted wheat bread. The sandwich tasted great, something like an Italian beef, but fancier in my opinion. I will be back to try other items, so I recommend others to check this place out.

Yelp
I love me a good bagel sandwich! Everything about this place was inviting - from the store front to the kind staff. I wouldn't say this is the best bagel place in town but it was pretty delicious to eat. I ordered the nova lox sandwich with all the works. You get a choice of coleslaw, potato salad, or pasta salad (which I chose) and it comes with a huge pickle! The sandwich was very well put together and packed with ingredients. The bagel itself was kind of hard but it was manageable! Definitely messy but thats the fun part.
google avatar

Alison Y.

Yelp
I'm not a bread or sandwich person but I was hankering for one and was in the area. While the process are higher and the sides are like mini cups, the actual sandwich itself was awesome. I got the roast beef and it was probably one of the tastiest sandwiches I've ever had. The horseradish was sharp and paired so well with the giardiniera - this flabor combo is not for the light hearted. Be ready for a zingy zesty and satisfying sandwich!
google avatar

Trish S.

Yelp
This used to be my go to bagel spot but I've noticed the quality go down and today's visit was really bad. My order was simple, four bagels with cream cheese. Dude seemed pissed I didn't order sandwiches. It took my order at least 15 minutes which is not a problem except those that ordered after me got their orders quick even more complicated sandwich orders. Once at home we see that they over toasted the bagels so they are black and burnt. There are better bagels with better service.

Yelp
I like to go to Corey's when I am craving a nice bagel with cream cheese. Their products are fresh and the staff is super friendly. Highly recommend trying the pretzels, they are delicious! There is not space to sit and eat so be ready to just do pick up. There is plenty of parking.
google avatar

Susanne H.

Yelp
I've eaten here numerous times and have tried various things on the menu. The food has always been good, and so has the consistency.
google avatar

Yelp
Worth going out of your way for a great bagel Breakfast. Will be back the next time in Chicago.

Yelp
I love a good Nova Lox bagel and Corey's hit the spot! I was running errands around the neighborhood and decided to grab food here while passing by. I appreciated their parking spaces out front. Corey's shares a section of a lot with Olive Mediterranean Grill and Wild Fork. It was convenient to stop in-and-out with a car. Starbucks is also on the same lot so it was can pretty crowded being right off North Ave, but I was able to pull in and was out in 10 minutes. I ordered the Nova Lox Bagel Sandwich on a Garlic Bagel and Chive Cream Cheese. This sandwiches was about $15 at the time of writing and came with a delicious pickle and choice of side. I chose the pasta salad, but you also have the options of chips among others. I chose all the fixings so it had cucumbers, tomatoes, capers, and red onion. It was a hearty sandwich, one I had to smoosh a little bit and approach from the side with my first bite because everything stacked up so tall. I also picked up a small tub of lox cream cheese to take home, because I already had everything bagels at home, and could not wait to try their lox cream cheese. I saw that they also had jumbo black and white cookies at their to-go counter, which I'm sure a local New Yorker or anyone who's spent time there would appreciate! Overall, I enjoyed my sandwich. Corey's was the perfect place for a pit stop to grab lunch on the go!

Monika S.

Yelp
This place is a rip off. Everything added costs a crazy amount extra. They even charge for a smear of butter... $1.10!! I'd asked for it after ordering the egg and cheese bagel, so he said it costs extra but he'll put it on for free this time. "But next time..." I like a good bagel, but this place isn't worth this kind of money, and I'm seriously turned off by their practice of nickel and diming.
google avatar

Randall K.

Yelp
If you want a bagel that tastes like three day old, stale bread, this is your place. Bad product. Frozen bagels from supermarket are better. Also, asked them to toast the bagel and it was barely warm and Def not toasty. It was cold and day+ old.

D A.

Yelp
Respectfully, this is THE SPOT!!! I've tried so many bagels in Chicago and they're overhyped + too fricking expensive!! Corey's is my fave and priced as it should be. Employees at this location are also so friendly and so quick. Love love love.
google avatar

Raunel U.

Yelp
Orders the nova lox bagel. Came with a pickle and a small side dish. It cost the same if you don't get the small side dish. It wasn't worth the $16 I paid for it. The service was exceptional, great friendly morning crowd. However this is a place that's only grab and go, so if you're expecting a place to sit down this is not it. Down to the lox. It didn't have as much flavor as expected. The bagel was dry and not any better than a jewel or aldi bagel you can get at a grocery store. The vegetables however were fresh and pickled. This kind of sandwich didn't make sense to include a giant half pickle but I guess they all come with them? I wouldn't go back again for their Nova lox but I would give their warm/hot sandwiches a try in the future. These bagels are 1/5 but the inside of the sandwich is a 3/5 and the service is 5/5 so I will round and give them a 3/5.

Yelp
- NYC-style bagel deli in Chicago with a taste of home - Joyful staff originally from New York, creating an authentic atmosphere - Handcrafted, crispy bagels that exceed expectations - Wide variety of flavors and fresh toppings - Friendly and attentive service from a passionate team - The perfect destination for an authentic NYC bagel experience in Chicago. Five stars all day!
google avatar

Phaithe N.

Yelp
This spot is premier for bagels in Chicago. They are fresh made daily and you Amy be lucky enough to snag some free ones that the restaurant is giving away. The restaurant is takeout and dine in. Great service!
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Corey's and I enjoyed it. It's a cool atmosphere inside and everyone looks like they are working very hard. There was also a lot of people waiting inside which I took as a good sign (maybe they were moving slow, not sure). We maybe waited only 5 minutes for our food after ordering. This place is pretty much To-Go only. There's a window bench you could stand at eat at but no sit down eating. I'm not too much of an expert on NYC bagels, but I got the garlic & herb with roast beef and I definitely enjoyed it. I found the bagel to have exactly the flavor that I was hoping for and found it to be a great texture as well. All the bagel sandwiches are about $15 which I thought was a little pricey, but it's not something so tend to get on a regular basis. I would definitely try Corey's again.
google avatar

Caitlin H.

Yelp
Been coming here for the past 11 years and I have never had a bad experience. The food is so good and so fresh!
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
Great service! Tasty bagels and lots of sandwich options. Ordered a Turkey sandwich on an everything bagel. Super good. Came nicely packaged (could have been more eco friendly, but I get it). However, they do toast their bagels. If you are like me and dont like toasted bagels, please let them know. I'll be doing that next time! Love the decor and the ambiance of the place. Will absolutely be coming back!
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
You know the feeling when you're super hyped to get something you've been 'hankering for?' I rarely treat myself to a bagel - maybe, 4-5 times a year. And today was the day. I decided to order from Corey's based off of 4+ star reviews on google and Uber eats(I should have checked Yelp). Needless to say this place was a disappointment. With NYC in the name, I would have expected more. I get it, we don't live in New York - so I'm not comparing this to bagels in NYC. Legit this was a terrible bagel. You know the bagels you get from grocery stores, like when Mariano's or jewel makes their own? Hard, dense and flavorless? This would be below grocery grade. Recommendation: There's better places in the city to order from; Chicago Bagel Authority, Gotham Bagels, etc. Or in a pinch go to jewel - either way you'll get a better product. Bagel went in trash
google avatar

Mike J.

Yelp
Amazing kettle boil bagels, how they should be made! They do not cheap out on the toppings, you get a ton of items on your bagel sandwich. You can get a regular bagel with butter & or cream cheese, or choose from some of their amazing breakfast and lunch bagel sandwiches. Everyone there is so happy and inviting, the service is great and speedy & such a lovely vibe in the store. You need to try The Lox bagel, it's phenomenal.
google avatar

Fred F.

Yelp
garbage food here. skip the over priced crap and get a real sandwich elsewhere. so many great optiosn now
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
I just went to this location for the first time and the quality of the food is consistent! I am in love with their house made flavored cream cheese-which cost a little less than $5.00 for a tub. My all time favorite is the Veggie Cream Cheese which contains whipped cream cheese with fresh vegetable mixed in...they off it in a "Lite"=low calorie version as well a "Regular" Veggie Cream Cheese! Stellar! FYI-Masks are required.

Nancy S.

Yelp
BEST AUTHENTI NY BAGELS in Lincoln park! Cream cheese especially the lite is a Must..............
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down best bagels in Chicago! Taste just like you're in New York this has become a Saturday morning tradition for us. It's not uncommon for there to be a line out the door, so once we figured out our favorites we started calling a head so we could pick up. We love to get the bagel sandwiches, but an old fashioned bagel with cream cheese does the trick too. If you go close to closing, they hand out free bags of bagels they would've otherwise had to toss. For transparency, I gotta admit their coffee is literally one of the worst I've ever had in my life - tastes like dirty, burnt dishwater but I love the food so much I just don't buy the coffee lol. Lastly, I recommend walking if you can because their parking lot is a zoo because it's shared.
google avatar

rachel n.

Yelp
Ordered from a plain bagel with cream cheese this morning and it was OK. I appreciated the large amount of cream cheese spread but the bagels are definitely not like the ones you get from New York delis. The bagel itself was pretty dry and similar to what you would get at a grocery store bakery. Considering the lack of good bagels in Chicago, Corey's is decent by Midwest standards. Service was quick, price is fair.
google avatar

Marissa A.

Yelp
As a yelp elite, it is hard when you find the best of the best. It makes it challenging to continue trying new restaurants in that category. Thanks to Corey's I cannot try any other bagel companies because this is as good as it gets... You have to try their sun dried tomato cream cheese, it's very subtle and adds a nice flavor to the anything bagel. It's always full in here, and there is limited seating but man is it worth it. The workers are very friendly and it seems like a family when you enter. It seriously makes me crave a new york trip just to see how close it is to the real deal. you MUST check this place out if you're in chicago!

Amanda J. E.

Yelp
Loved the service & food! Their bagels are great quality too! Everyone needs to check this place out!
google avatar

Shambavi K.

Yelp
Must love bagels. I ordered the bagel sandwich with lox and it was quite amazing. Only qualm is that toasted bagel got a bit tougher to chew as it cooled down. Solid sandwich though
google avatar

Katie E.

Yelp
If you're looking for a quick, easy and DELISH bagel... look no further. Corey's NYC Bagel went through a name change I believe, but their menu and quality are the same as before. My roommate always gets the bagel with plain cream cheese and lox, while I'm more of a bacon egg & cheese girl myself :). Last time I came in I was dangerously close to ordering the bagel chips they make... the cinnamon raisin was calling my name(!!). May have to go back and grab some more STRICTLY for research purposes. The staff that work here honestly make this such a great place. They are always in such a friendly and hilarious mood... you can tell they genuinely enjoy working together. Overall... definitely recommend coming in for a bite and a bfast sandwich!
google avatar

Cassidy B.

Yelp
Let's set the scene. It's midnight and my partner all of the sudden says she's craving a lox and cream cheese bagel. She then goes down a Yelp rabbit hole for about 30 minutes telling me about all the different places she wants to try. She then says, "it would be amazing if I could get one tomorrow..." Maybe it's because I'm the best partner ever or maybe it's because I didn't want to listen to her long talks about lox tonight again... but I ordered her the Nova lox bagel this morning through Uber Eats. She got her bagel with chive cream cheese and the potato salad as her side. I can't personally vouch for the bagel but the potato salad and pickle that came with it were bomb. If those minor sides are any indication, I think their bagels must be great. My partner was raving about how it hit the spot and had been exactly what she was craving.
google avatar

Missy B.

Yelp
I had an order delivered and the reason they are getting three stars isn't because they messed up my order (which they did) but was the quality of my sandwich. I got the nova lox sandwich which I do at every bagel shop. The bagel was garlic herb and it tasted like a plain bagel. The lox was flavorless and wet- more than normal. The cream cheese was chive light which tasted like nothing. I have had a lot better lox sandwiches in the city and this isn't one of them. I ordered a 1/2 dozen bagels and they only gave me 1 of the bagels I selected. And they forgot my tub of cream cheese I ordered. I don't think this is the best bagel in Chicago and I won't be going back- better options available.
google avatar

J'Ana D.

Yelp
Such friendly staff! They made sure to ask what we wanted on our bagel and what we wanted as a side rather than just giving us whatever. The pickle you get as a side is huge! I've never seen such a big pickle! The bagels themselves are delicious and buttery. My friend got the Lox bagel and it was one of best lox bagels she has ever had. I got the nyc Turkey bagel sandwich which also very good, I wish I added more Mayo or sauce. They also had so many different options of bagels. Can't wait to go back and try another sandwich and don't forget to ring the bell on your way out.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Please see my picture of what they're calling an everything bagel. I'm still traumatized and it was taken weeks ago. I know you can't get a good bagel in Chicago, but at least the others don't claim to be New York bagels. I would have appropriately lowered my expectations if it was called Corey's Chicago Bagel. And I still would have been disappointed.
google avatar

Gunnar M.

Yelp
This is a solid deli. I've ordered both the lox bagel & a ruben sandwich on UberEats and both are very good. A word of caution & this goes without saying: I would be reluctant ordering more "wet" sandwiches such as the ruben as it doesn't travel well in terms of delivery...the toasted bread has been quite soggy upon arrival Overall, a great Sunday delivery breakfast if you're too lazy to get up from your bed
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
This is one of very few bagel spots in the Chicago area that feels like an authentic East Coast bagel shop. There's not a lot of room inside, but staff are very friendly and extremely efficient. Orders are ready fast. As they say in New York, Bada bing, bada boom! It looks like the crew has fun working here, which is great to see, especially on a Saturday. In fact, every time a customer leaves a tip the crew shouts out Gentlemen! It's very endearing. And of course the bagels are delicious (generous portions of cream cheese!)
google avatar

Steven K.

Yelp
Our office orders from here occasionally. It's not my favorite. I don't like the texture of the bagels. They're too dense, and lack flavor. NY bagels should have a hard crust and a bit shiny and the inside should be chewy, but not dense. I also do not like their tuna salad. Too acidic and not enough of any other flavor. Their egg salad is not much better. Not enough flavor, too "thick" (like mortar), and usually just tastes like it was made at least a couple of days ago. They used to have salads here, but got rid of them for some reason. Those were ok. I hope they improve. Staff is friendly and hard working.
google avatar

Dan d.

Yelp
Ordered for weekend group meetings for years. Back in Chicago again and it will be one of my first stops. Will update and post on this soon. I expect it to be fantastic.

Yelp
I love a New York City bagel. If you haven't had one, please do so immediately, but a New York City bagel in Chicago? Let me see about this... Super hungry (per usual) while walking around Chicago and I came upon this place. Totally small. Nestled in the corner of a strip mall. Probably not a place I'd stop in but only because I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't walked by. The inside is small; a few high top tables, a counter and a wall of bagels. That is pretty much it. The menu is on the wall and serves your typical bagel shop fare: smears, chicken salad sandwiches and more. Wanting breakfast I got a sausage egg and cheese (cheddar) on a toasted sesame. They offered me a combo since I got an orange juice- $7 (not bad). Within a few moments my sandwich was ready. Amazing. The outside shell tasted just like a New York bagel. You know it was a little tough, but still chewy. Delicious. I devoured my sandwich and sort of wanted another but of course I didn't. The guys who worked here were great. Chatting with all the customers. Busting each other's chops while they worked. I can see they enjoyed working there and it completely showed. If I lived here, I'd be there way too much. Definitely regretting not taking a few bagels home with me for later. Next time I'm here I'm getting the chicken salad- it looked amazing.
google avatar

Maxwell M.

Yelp
Excellent bagels, boars head meats, very reasonable prices for high quality food. They can customize everything. They even gave my baby a little bagel for free. The guys in the shop were super friendly. This is my new favorite breakfast spot. It was about 80°F inside when I walked in. Nova lox bagel was excellent. There was tons of salmon on it. Only regret was potato salad was more like mashed potatoes. It was still pretty good but I probably would've liked something else better.

C C.

Yelp
Great bagel sandwiches and awesome staff!

W W.

Yelp
This is my happy place. I love their bagels so much and the staff are always so joyful. Today the staff found out I was having a bad day and they gave me free bagels Carbs solve everything.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Just no! As a newly arrived resident of Chicago, I was eager to find a go-to bagel place and relied on the good reviews. We ordered the egg salad and lox sandwiches, both on everything bagels. We also ordered a half dozen of various bagels. While the lox and egg salad were serviceable, the bagels themselves were honestly among the worst I've had - they arrived via Doordash hard as a rock and lacked much flavor. As you can also see from the pic, the "everything" bagels were somewhat lacking in topping- maybe they should rename it the "halfway there" bagel.
google avatar

Leo H.

Yelp
A solid, cheap, quick option for warm, well-prepared bagels if you're nearby. Came here on a Thursday morning on my stroll back from the Home Depot. As usual, I needed about 4 minutes to stare at the menu and come to a decision, but I was left to do this in peace, which I always appreciate from a staff. I ordered an everything bagel with avocado and an egg, and they turned it around pretty quickly--maybe like 2 minutes--securely wrapped in foil to keep it warm for my journey home, since sitting and eating didn't really seem like the vibe. The bagel was well-toasted, and the avocado tasted like avocado, which is key. The last time I'd had a bagel was at Chicago Bagel Authority, where for some reason every bagel feels like it was soaked in a pot of warm water immediately before, so I definitely enjoyed the crispiness of this one. From a flavor perspective, it didn't blow me away, but I think I just need to refine my order. Throw some cheese on there, perhaps some ham. I'll get it figured out, and I'll be back. Would recommend if you're in the area.

Tom S.

Yelp
What a disaster! Now i know why this sh*t hole never makes the top 10 for bagels. Crunchy and stinky with no flavor. Change the water or something - the entire store stank TBH. Over priced and poorly build sandwich. They really dont do anything right here - wont be suprised if this place disappears with all of the high quality bagel shops that have popped up recently Wont be missed thats for sure!
google avatar

Niki R.

Yelp
I have found my absolutely new favorite lox bagel sandwich place. This place even beat my favorite spot in New York! I got the lox with a garlic and herb bagel and chive cream cheese. It was an absolutely perfect lox sandwich. They put a generous amount of salmon, cream cheese, and other toppings. The bagel itself was delicious as the garlic and herbs were so wonderful while the salmon was incredibly fresh and flavorful. I cannot wait to have another one soon!
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
This is a TRUE New York bagel shop. The guy in the picture is my friend from New York who testified that the lox and bagels were every bit as good as in New York City! There isn't much sitting room to eat but we managed just fine and shared a great Sunday morning New York breakfast in Chicago!

Ian S.

Yelp
The bagel looks great but the pasta salad side is not what I expected. It's more of two-bite tease than a side. Beware
google avatar

Leen A.

Yelp
Tried out the Nova Lox bagel sandwich and the oven roasted turkey bagel sandwich and both were amazing! Also got to meet Corey and some of the staff. We felt so welcomed and they all made sure we were happy with our orders
