The Best New Restaurants in Los Angeles According to Eater Editors, July 2025 | Eater LA

"After closing Alimento in Silver Lake and Cosa Buona in Echo Park, chef and restaurateur Zach Pollack has opened his latest project in Santa Monica. Cosetta melds his past at both restaurants and his time at Sotto into a family-friendly California-Italian menu. Find dishes like smoked mozzarella sticks (borrowed from the Cosa Buona menu), along with bluefin tartare, shrimp scampi served with toasted focaccia, and a punched-up chopped salad. Pollack’s puffy-crusted pizzas return as well, available topped with pepperoni, mushrooms, garlic, and more. Larger plates are comprised of roasted chicken, roasted tri-tip tagliata, and barbecue prawns alla griglia. The Milaneses are available with chicken or eggplant, and can be made gluten-free. The menu’s strength is its accessibility: Find plenty of options for vegetarians, gluten-intolerant diners, and everyone in between. The Best Pizza in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Chef Zach Pollack honed his approach to pizza after years of working the oven at Sotto and later the Italian American versions at his now-closed Echo Park restaurant Cosa Buona. Now with Cosetta, he’s doing blistered wood-fired 10-inch pizzas in a variety of creative topping combinations. The puffy crusts straddle a neo-Neapolitan and New York style, with a less craggly exterior and a more composed underbody. The results are something shareable and fun that likely travels well in delivery and takeout. The peparazzi comes with a sizzle of spicy sopressata and vegetal Fresno chiles while the decidedly untraditional Hawaiian sunrise gets house-smoked coppa, pineapple, onion, cilantro, and jalapeño. After sharing some slices, be sure to try the crispy-crunchy chicken, eggplant, or sand dab milaneses, which can come gluten-free as well." - Matthew Kang

Cosetta might not set its foot in the middle of the arrays of restaurants and cafes around the neighborhood, yet it made a perfect new dining spot with uberly gorgeous setting. Not only the indoor space, but also the outdoor one. The BOHO color mix with vibrant and earthy elements stood strong, and in a bright sunny day, the outdoor patio was just impeccable place to enjoy. Being relatively new, reservation was highly recommended especially during weekend and peak hours. I arrived just right before noon on a Sunday, and though it looked quite in the beginning, just in few minutes the venue started to reach its full occupancy. They carried slightly different lunch and dinner menu, with dinner one was probably more rich in selections but the lunch one surely offered plenty of options as well. Despite being busy, all the servants were super attentive, making it such outstanding first impression on the service. We started with their Caesar, which was colorful in presentations and surely brought quite generous mix of tasty ingredients. I loved the idea that it featured anchovies as it just enriched the overall flavors, and it's great that the seasoning wasn't overpowering, letting the veggies to still stand out. The next one we opted for was their 'Stepmother', their house version of Italian sandwich. The size was pretty filling if you went solo, but for sharing it worked better IMO, particularly if you wanna go for more pizzas. They were pretty generous in the stuffing, both the veggie and the meat, and the taste was decent although I wouldn't call out anything distinctive compared to similar ones served elsewhere. For me the highlights were more on their pizzas, for which my friends and I tried 2 of the white-based ones; Biancoverde and Peparazzi. I was kinda torn which ones were better as I thought each of them had their own unique selling point. The first one served those who wanna go meatless best, yet even for me who loved meat I did think it's flavorful especially how the garlic flavor stood out. Being a fan of pizza featuring ricotta, I really recommended to give it a try and it's definitely smart idea to blend it with spinach as the topping. The later was certainly for the meat lovers out there, and this one had the bolder flavor profile bringing together soppressata and pepper. It played with that sweet and spicy dynamic duo, complemented by the certainly not-to-miss mozzarella. All their pizzas came in 12 inch size and sliced into 6. If you wanna try more from the menu, sharing was certainly the best.

Had an epic dinner at Cosetta all thanks to our incredible waiter, Wesley! Throughout the entire evening he was attentive, friendly and gave the absolute best recommendations. Everything was fantastic but the star of the show for us was a split between the blue fin appetizer and the shrimp scampi. Packed with incredible flavor with high quality ingredients. We’ve already made our resy to return on July 25!

Came here for the pizza, but left with so much more. Stopped by for an early dinner on Sunday. Ambiance indoors is modern warm colors, and outdoor patio space with heaters and fireplace. The crowd was mixed, from date night, to family dinners, and friend get togethers. They have 2hour parking validation in their lot & meter parking on the street. We ordered: Kampachi & Scallops to start 5/5 (so much flavor wow) Italian dumpling salad and mozzarella sticks (great options if you love cheese) the mozzarella sticks were freshly made, lively seasoning and the dumpling salad was unique and delicious with a chili onion crunch in every bite. Funghi town pizza and the Lo Spagnolo Ricco ( uni butter/ Spanish clams) I am a mushroom girl and the funghi pizza exceeded expectations!! The uni butter on the Lo Spagnolo Ricco was delicious; however, it was a unique taste I wasn’t expecting. The clams come on the side & overall it was one of the most unique things I have tried, so if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, go for it! For dessert we got the chocolate peanut butter budino, our server described it as a deconstructed snickers bar- the perfect explanation as it tasted exactly like that. This paired with a decaf cappuccino was the night cap. Loved the ambiance, the service, and the food. Will definitely be back. Cheers!

Thank you Cosetta for choosing Santa Monica's Ocean Park neighborhood for your restaurant. As long you continue to provide good food and service, the community is loyal and will be your most frequent customers. Yes, the food and service met our expectations. Though Ocean Park offers Vitos and Il Forno nearby, I enjoyed the different atmosphere and your fresh spin on popular dishes. The 3 of us ordered the following: •House bread w Chicke liver all'alimento •Whipped baccala •Scallop crudo •Caesar salad •Italian dumpling salad •Funghi Town pizza •Lo Spangnolo Ricco pizza w uni butter, topped with Spanish clams (tin can) We wanted to try many dishes knowing we'd take some home. However none of us ordered any of the drinks nor cocktails. From the look of the drinks passing by and from nearby tables, the cocktails looked small (portion-wise) but beautiful. I will try next week when we visit again with others. My final comment is that the guest service staff has room for improvement: We were seated but and we had different people taking our order, asking how our meal was, even asking for our bill - we didnt know who was our waiter! Was it the lady who sat us? Was it the man who took our order but said our waiter was on a break? Who was our waiter? But the man who took our order saw my confused, puzzled look and asked one of the outside patio waiters to close out my bill and pay. There is always rooms for improvement. No worries, I'll be back next week and will update and post more new different food options.

I really wanted to love this place because it’s so cool: everything is cool, from the venue with its tasteful interior design and very dog and kid friendly patio, to the wonderful staff and super nice atmosphere. But the food was a letdown. The starters and sides were very tasty but the mains were disappointing. We went for two Milanese options (the chicken and the eggplant) and they were so bland and uninspired - a waste of ingredients. My eggplant was not seasoned and was merely a deep friend squashed eggplant with some marinara sauce on it. The same sauce my kid had with his mozarella sticks. It felt so wrong. My husband’s chicken Milanese wasn’t much better because his deep fried chicken was drenched in a super hot “Thai” sauce and accompanied by some tomatoes. Nothing on that plate worked - meat was dry, veggies were raw and the sauce was just water, vinegar and chili flakes. I will probably go back and give it another go because everything else on the menu looked great - maybe we just got unlucky with our choice of dishes.

Cosetta is exactly what we needed in the neighborhood. Great seating, inside and out. Honestly, all the food is great, and they do some fun stuff – like that saffron aioli with the tuna tartare and puffed rice in the salad. Plus, the service was great, and you can’t go wrong with any of their pizzas.

A large patio, a fire pit and a space that invites lingering. The ambiance, though, too closely resembles a semi-upscale chain restaurant. Unfortunately the menu follows suit, marred by a recurring theme, an overreliance on sweetness that overwhelms. Take the yellowtail sashimi. The fish itself is clean and of good quality, but it's drowned by an unnecessarily sugary sauce that overtakes the flavor profile. Then comes the italian dumpling salad. It doesn’t know if it wants to be a salad or a pasta, and ends up as neither. It tastes like a dish designed by committee. The smoked mozzarella sticks are reminiscent of mass-produced alternatives, like something pulled from a freezer aisle and dressed up for company. The margherita pizza is the one standout with its well-executed dough. It's competent, and a welcome from the sugar-forward items that preceded. For the chicken milanese, the chicken itself is nicely cooked, but it's buried under an exorbitant amount of super sweet cherry tomatoes that tip the whole dish. Service is generally attentive with staff stretched thin but staying polite and professional. Until the kitchen dials back the sugar, Cosetta remains a place uneven on the plate and the palate.

Happy Hour 4-5pm, family restaurant with young kids but after 7 is a great spot for adults. Bar is great anytime. Friendly bar tenders and good cocktails. I enjoyed the Negroni, chocolate twist.

Yelp
This place is going to be an amazing addition to the neighborhood, just what we need. Total transformation from the old coffee bean space. Thank you!
