Sadly, I had a negative pickup experience at this restaurant that left a lingering bad impression on me.
On June 23, 2021, at around 7:00 pm, I drove over 30 minutes to pick up an order at the restaurant. Upon entrance, I stood politely behind the "Please wait to be seated" sign. The restaurant was not very busy - there were maybe 3 tables occupied. The only waiter, a man with brown hair and a full beard, noticed me enter but did not acknowledge my arrival whatsoever for several minutes.
After a long wait, he finally approached me. Before I had the chance to even exchange a basic greeting, he said curtly and directly: "here for a pickup?" Yes, his assumption was correct. After I told him my name for the order, he flinched and asked me to repeat it with a smirk, perhaps because it sounded foreign.
He then went to the back of the restaurant, came back with a bag, and said "here you go." As I said "thank you", he mumbled "m'hmm" and turned around.
From the moment I entered to the moment I left, I felt like a burden to the waiter, unworthy of being serviced. I'm left wondering: does he treat everybody this way, or only certain people? Why would anyone return after an experience like this one? In any case, the waiter did a great job in preventing people like me from coming back
I actually had a 20% tip in my hand (because the restaurant disabled tipping on trycaviar.com for pickup orders), but I never got the chance to give it to him. Based on this experience, I would not return to this restaurant or order from it again.
To make matters worse, the food was mostly disappointing and there were no utensils. The breading on the Chicken De Volaille (chicken kiev) was underwhelming while the meat/filling was dry. The meat in the Gulasz (stew) was hard to chew. The Golabki (stuffed cabbage rolls) and the perogies were okay. What saved the meal, in my opinion, were the sides: I did enjoy the beets, the cucumber salad, and the lukewarm and sweet borsht.
