"This campus-area spot has been a longtime favorite of grad students and whoever else lives in North University for decades. The patio here is mostly under a roofed, open-air space, but it also expands out even further from the bar with tarps, tents, and picnic tables. There are only a few TVs, so get there early if you want to secure a prime viewing spot, but even if you don’t, you’ll be able to enjoy their great food and daily beer specials. "Every day the North Campus bar Crown & Anchor puts a different brewery (or region) from their tap list on sale, knocking the price down to less than $5 a pint. It’s one of the cheapest places in town to sample great craft beers, all while catching a game on one of the many TVs, or over a few rounds of pool inside. Crown is one of the closest bars to campus outside of the West Campus area, and it tends to be a little more relaxed as a result—expect to find some combination of upperclassmen who have graduated from Bud Light and professors unwinding after class. The classic burger-and-fries combo might not be as cheap as it used to be, but it still comes in at around $11. Considering this is one of the best burgers in town, that’s well worth it. "There’s nothing fancy about the burgers at Crown & Anchor, but something about these perfectly seasoned patties and toasted white buns put them among our favorites in town. They come in most of the classic variations—bacon, jalapeño, and mushroom swiss—with a pile of fries that always arrive perfectly crispy. Our go-to here is usually the mushroom swiss, but there’s no bad move. "A North Campus favorite since 1987, this beloved neighborhood pub nails the dive-bar burger formula. No bells and whistles — just a grilled patty made up of fresh, never frozen double-grinded beef and melted Swiss, American, or cheddar cheeses, plus add-ons like jalapeños, bacon, and mushrooms. Pair with fries, with the optional addition of melted cheese and ranch dressing, and a cold pint on the side. Diners can unwind on the pub’s spacious dog-friendly patio, which is often full of regulars who will claim it’s the best burger in town, or settle in inside, where there’s plenty of seating, pool tables, and dartboards — tournaments happen every Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. Best for: A burger with beer.
