16 Cozy Spots for Afternoon Tea in the San Francisco Bay Area

"Enjoy afternoon tea at the Japantown outpost of this tea room located inside the New People mall, or at its second location in Ross in Marin County. The affordable tea service is thankfully customizable to your party, such as adding on a crown craft project for kids, or requesting unicorn cakes or a macaron tower for special occasions (just give the shop at least 72 hours notice)." - Paolo Bicchieri, Eater Staff

Crown & Crumpet Tea Salon - Review - Japantown - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"On the first floor of the New People building in Japantown is the casual high tea spot Crown & Crumpet Tea Salon. This place takes up one small corner of the shopping center, with no physical separation between the mall and tea salon. It looks like a bright pink fever dream with pink chairs, pink flowers, and pink tablemats. The sandwiches and scones are a bit dry and the tea—loose leaf with no strainer—is oversteeped. Although reasonably priced at $44 per person, and with longer hours than most tea shops in the city (Thursday through Monday, 11am-4pm), there are simply other tea spots we’d send you to first." - Ricky Rodriguez

8 Cool Shops in San Francisco

"A tea room so cute, it hurts. This Pop-Victorian gem is like Hello Kitty in Wonderland, hallucinating through the eyes of Barbie. If that’s not clear enough a description, this marvel is not too far from a Beatrix Potter-inspired shabby chic carnival explosion. A Care Bears-colored looking glass, the dazzling prevalence of polka dots, precious boutique relics and British ephemera give way to multi-tiered trays of finger sandwiches, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, and confections worthy of a duchess’s palate. The tea menu is extensive, featuring tantalizing and exotic brews with names such as “Blue Eyes,” “Star of Africa,” “Crownberry,” “Queen of Hearts,” “Paris,” “Jasmine Fancy,” “Happiness Is,” and “Marie Antoinette.” Crown & Crumpet might be the only place on Earth one could find Rainbow Brite, Lady Lovely Locks, and Strawberry Shortcake consorting, but in any case, it should all begin and end with a curtsy." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Crown and Crumpet in San Francisco's Japantown promises a charming afternoon tea experience, but my visit fell far short of expectations, landing it a disappointing 1 star review. We were a group of 3 and mistakenly assumed we each needed an afternoon tea ($44 each!). Looking back at it, we should have only ordered one (or maybe two) afternoon tea and shared it. While they do offer a la carte options like sandwiches and salads, we opted for the full afternoon tea experience. They cater to dietary restrictions with gluten-free, vegan, and even children's tea options, which is commendable. The ambiance leans heavily feminine, with a sea of pink dominating the menus, cushions, and tablecloths. As expected, the clientele skewed heavily towards women. We tried three different tea flavors: Keep Calm and Carry On, Paris Herbal, and Lychee Congou. While the large pots were impressive in size, steeping enough for multiple people, the actual flavor was underwhelming. The promised notes of black currant, vanilla, and lychee were undetectable. The only flavor that stood out was the peppermint in the "Keep Calm" tea. Service was quick, but that's where the positives end. The food was a major letdown. The crumpet, a namesake of the establishment, was cold and hard. The blueberry scone lacked flavor, and combining all our afternoon tea selections onto one platter resulted in a mess of textures and disappointment. Mini sausage rolls sat on top of the salad, turning soggy by the time we reached them. The sandwich spreads had an odd aftertaste, and the chai cookie tasted more like a snickerdoodle. To top it all off, we found a bug on one of the sweets. Needless to say, we left most of the food untouched after that discovery. Crown and Crumpet boasts a lovely concept, but the execution falls flat. Underwhelming flavors and inattentiveness to food quality resulted in a very disappointing experience.

I had the tea for one with the Marie Antoinette black tea. Everything was excellent. I also appreciate that there was lemon curd, clotted cream, and preserves. The attention to detail is so adorable from the tea pots to the dishware to the presentation. The place was a bit warm (AC would help) but it did not prevent me from enjoying my time. It’s in the lobby of the building but I think it’s quirky. Lastly, there’s a cute place for you to take pictures so for group pictures it’s spot on!

Sadly will not return because of the lies. When me and my friend came in we had not made a reservation and were told that they were all booked for the day and that we should have booked a weekend prior. My friend had gotten an off feeling from the waitress when we left we called to see if they had a reservation available later in the day and they in fact did. While we did in fact come back and enjoyed our lunch together. The hostess/waitress did not apologize or even address The fact that she told us misinformation. While we were there there were many tables that just sat empty before people even came in for their reservations. So to be blatantly lied to about reservations and booking is quite disheartening. While the food was delicious and bought tea for home. But found out the upcharge for the tea Was extraordinary. I payed $10 an ounce So $30 for 3 oz that would have been okay didn't find out it was merely just Harrison and sons Paris Brew. And I purchased a 7 oz tin for $16 And also a 50 packet for 13. I don't mind paying more for something delicious but this type of markup is deplorable. I thought I could look past low atmosphere and what could have been a mere mistake. But with everything put into a broader perspective this is not how you should treat your customers. Maybe the Ross location Will be a better destination or I'll only stick to take out. But I don't really feel comfortable coming back Sadly

This was such a wonderful experience! Went with a friend of mine and was thoroughly impressed by the service and the cheerful staff. The tea was the standout for sure. They used such rich flavors and it took all my willpower not to slurp it down immediately! The food was also very good and I felt like for the portion sizes, the price was fine. If you would like to go, definitely set up a reservation in advance, especially if you want to visit on the weekends!

Google
A semi-hidden High Tea delight in the middle of San Francisco. The food is quite filling and really good. The crumpets are real, not replaced with some fancy toast. Their crumpets taste like the ones that have to be kept in refrigeration (top quality) prior to serving. The blueberry scones were devine! A puffy chicken pot pie! Wow! I had a great experience. For me, the thorough theme of the restaurant and ambiance was the distraction I needed. Dare not feel those good childhood memories before taking that first sip of tea.

Google
Delicious treats, awesome service, cuteness overload! My husband and I had the tea for one, split. Absolutely worth the price if you are wondering. Not only is this a legit British tea spot, but every food bite was heavenly. Absolutely would also eat lunch here!

Google
I've had very good experiences at Crown & Crumpet. Just sitting there looking around is fun. Staff is courteous, and explains the proper ways to enjoy afternoon tea to first-timers. Tea selection is excellent, so is the taste. I love the variety of food offered; and I give a big thumbs-up for the scone. I find the sweets too sweet for my taste, except for the macarons (they were so good that I just had to take some home). At lunch time, the place is packed. So try to visit on a weekday and during non-busy hours. Reservation might be a good idea, especially for special occassion and for a big group.

Google
Fantastic service and amazing treats! I can't count how many times I have been here!! The owner is also very humble and polite. I came here when I first moved to California. She sat down with us and gave me some of the best advice about living in the Bay Area. I didn’t really know anyone here so I was very thankful for her advice and her time.

Yelp
Recently celebrated a friend's birthday here at Crown & Crumpet Tea Salon. Just getting around to writing about it and found out this location is now closed. It was a lovely birthday celebration and we will miss this place. A bunch of us had tea, scones and tea sandwiches. Fun! On their website, they indicate that they have another location in Ross, Marin County, so maybe we will venture out there one of these days. Previously located inside the New People Building in Japantown, but now permanently closed for business in SF.

Yelp
Had a reservation for 2 and they seated us right away. We both had the pot of tea with some treat; my friend did the scones and I went with the crumpets, both were LOVELY. We had not seen each other in a little bit so we chatted for a couple hours and the staff was very nice about letting us stay and asking if they could top off our water. Very pretty and detailed decorations. All the plates, cups, and teapots and dishes were customized to their theme. The walls and tables were decorated too. I'd definitely go again.

Yelp
I came again on a Saturday afternoon! They were able to seat us without a reservation. The waitress was very nice and checked up on us periodically. The food is very consistent and the tea was really good! I got pretty in pink this time around! I love how the waitress offered to take our photo. I think this is a great place to bring friends or to go alone! Treat yourself!

Yelp
After going to tea at The Rotunda, I fear that Crown & Crumpet paled in comparison. The food was ok, the tea was good, and the service/decor were quirky. But for $75 per person? Insanity! If you're looking for a gimmicky tea experience, this might be the place for you. But otherwise, I don't think it's worth it!

Yelp
Need a place to celebrate your bday or girls day out??! Go shopping at Japan town and then have Afternoon Tea at crownandcrumpet -Tea that's fit for a king or queen! The teas are absolutely delicious, with tasty and generous portioned sandwiches and desserts. We came here for my birthday, it was so much fun and the food was delicious! Can't wait to go back! Things we ordered: - Paris (tea): Their most popular blend, vanilla & caramel are the high notes of this beloved French tea. - Pretty in Pink (tea): Strawberry and vanilla are the high notes with hibiscus, elderberries, blueberries, and botanicals create a fruity heaven. - Afternoon Tea for One (2): A large pot from our selection of loose-leaf tea, three freshly made finger sandwiches, two warm savories, one scone and crumpet, with clotted cream, house-made lemon curd and jam, and four sweets & treats. - Coronation Chicken: Lightly curried chicken with apricots, almonds, green onions & mango chutney on crumpet. - Chicken Pot Pie: Roasted breast of chicken with petit peas, carrots, onions, and celery, topped with a puff pastry cap.

Yelp
I have been delightfully exploring TooGoodToGo postings. I live in the area, pass this place all the time, and never knew it was here. This is definitely one of my top two finds. My girlfriends in Pittsburgh are envious. Very friendly and welcoming. I know my baked goods and THESE WERE SPECTACULAR. Thus far, we have only gotten into two, one of the scones and the white thing with the strawberry and blueberries. I was in HEAVEN. How often do things taste as good as they look? Such care in the presentation. I am not often at a loss for words, but I am speechless. This is worth coming to even if you aren't in the area.

Yelp
This is a nice tea spot if you want a nice afternoon in Japantown. Restaurant: 4/5 The inside is done up nice with a lot of English memorabilia. It is a little small and the tables are close together. This is also on the first floor of a several story building that has other businesses on the other levels. So, you have people walking in and out throughout the time going to these other businesses. It was easy to make a reservation and they got us right in. Food: 4/5 The food was good. I ordered the sausage in a biscuit and the Paris tea. My wife ordered the gluten free afternoon tea. I really liked my dish, my wife thought here food was good but, not amazing. The non-gluten free option looked much better. The tea was very good and there was a good amount. The price for the "afternoon tea" option was a little pricy for what you got, however, that seems to be fairly common for tea houses. However, I did love that they had a variety of foods to order and that they had the option to order a dish if you don't feel like the whole tea tower. I also liked that they had a Tea Tower of food for kids. Staff: 4/5 The staff was friendly. Because it is a smaller tea house and you can see the kitchen area from the dining area, it was easy to find your server if you needed anything. However, I wished they were initially a little more attentive on their own. Area: This is set in the middle of Japantown in SF. There is a lot of shops to explore in the area in the little Japantown mall area across the street. The theme of the tea shop seems a little out place for the area but, it's not really a problem.

Yelp
I came here a few weeks ago for a work holiday event. I've been wanting to check this place out and was excited that I finally got the chance to! The inside is super cute. It's very pink and their decor is very on theme. The staff was super nice and welcoming and they were also dressed on theme! They have a variety of different teas, sandwiches, and baked goods. I tried the chicken salad sandwich, the egg salad on croissant, brownie, fruit tart, scones, and a few more things! My favorite was definitely the scones (not pictured). They were super soft, flavorful, and paired perfectly with jam. The egg salad on croissant was another favorite. I don't usually like egg salad but decided to give it a try and am glad I did! The egg salad was perfectly creamy and well seasoned. It paired nicely with the buttery croissant! As for the tea, the strawberry fields one was my favorite! It was warm and fruity without being too sweet I really enjoyed this place and look forward to coming back!

Yelp
I was looking for a cute tea party place and I found this one! They have so many tasty teas and desserts there and I like how they have sandwiches too! We ended up getting the Afternoon Tea for One (x2) set since there was two of us. The set came with a large pot of loose leaf teas of your choice, three different freshly made finger sandwiches, two warm savouries, and scone and crumpet with clotted cream, house-made lemon curd and jam, and four bite-sized sweets. Also ordered two different teas, which was Swamp Water and Peach Crumpet. Our favorite was the Peach Crumpet tea because of the sweet fruity flavor. I'd recommend this place! It's a cute place and the food was good too.

Yelp
Nice place for some brunch tea and sandwiches. Will say the location of the place is a little odd. We felt like it's a section of the building lobby roped off for crown and crumpet. But the service was great. Pur waitresses were nice and on top of explaining the menu for us. Got 3 different pots of tea for 4 people. My favorite would have to be the private blend for Crown and Crumpet. It's a black tea mix. And yes must try it. We got the trolley options for sandwiches and scones. We realized the tower was actually the tea for one. Which pretty much has one of each sandwich scones and desserts. So that was ordered also. overall, it was a really great experience for my first tea time!
google avatar

Julie V.

Yelp
This place is so cute. It's small and only has a few tables, so I recommend making a reservation ahead of time! Also, trust me when I say this...not just your girlfriends, but your boyfriends would love it too! My boyfriend and I got the afternoon tea for one and the pot pie. The pot pie itself was okay, I don't think I'd get it again, but the tea for one came with lots of stuff and everything was so good! It includes a pot of tea, finger sandwiches, savories, scones, crumpets, sweets, etc. There was enough food to share for share!

Yelp
My friends & I went for the first time for afternoon tea experience at Crown & Crumpet this Martin Luther King Day (Monday) which was a holiday. The restaurant is in Japantown. We had various selection of large pots of loose leaf teas and delicious sandwiches and desserts. It's kind of cheeky place for ladies like us. Vaughn was nicely taking our orders and explaining how the ordering worked. We ordered two towers of afternoon tea to share and a Trolley Dolly pot of tea with crumpets. A friend ordered her lunch sandwiches instead. We had the taste of each other's tea like Blue Eyes, Happiness Is, Paris, Peach Crumpet, and Pretty in Pink and they were all delicious. The tea description is on the menu. The tea salon is beautiful for its afternoon tea. The decorations are attractive that we took many photos. The price is reasonable. We don't mind returning.

Yelp
We had a fun time here for my sister-in-laws birthday. Ambiance wise, the Ross location is a lot more charming since this is in the lobby for a little mini-mall (New People). But they do what they can with the china, birthday centerpiece, and friendly staff! Plus, the stores nearby are pretty rad. My kiddo loves the hot chocolate (decorated to the max with marshmallows and accents) and the little crown craft and that keeps her busy without screens. I love the Paris black tea. Food is cute, but not overly tasty. I mostly come for the tea and the experience. We had a scheduling snafu where they were actually booked for a buy-out at the time of our reservations but the owner was incredibly kind and helped us find a solution. These things happen, but she handled it with grace and humor, which is what I'll remember. She was also present for our reservation and truly a barrel of laughs.

Yelp
Another High Tea w/ the ladies! And what a treat! Crown & Crumpet Tea has the cutest aesthetics and ornamental decor, surprisingly in the heart of Japantown. We opted for the Nursery Tea for the kid (26) and Afternoon Tea for one (44)x4. We kept saying how cutesy everything was and really enjoyed in an unexpected Japanese store lobby. Barbie would've appreciate all the pink things and food glitter and attention to detail on desserts and hot chocolate. The cucumber/egg/ham sandwiches were tasty and filling! What really was adorable was glitz and glam and pink-dream of desserts. I think Devon Cream and Lemon Curd and Jam should be part of the food pyramid under heavenly foods... seriously...they're magical. Service can be spotty but it's ok to get the ladies' attention for assistance and they will be more than happy to help. Very Busy on a Saturday afternoon, good thing we made reservations a month ahead. We really did enjoy it here and the memories w/ the kid and team meetings w/ the ladies for high tea are priceless. Thank you Tea & Crumpet a great time!

Yelp
Hello Amy Thank you for that thoughtful response to my review, calling me "not very intelligent" Funny how you spent five minutes typing up a sad attempt at a clapback instead of addressing the real issue of your shit food. Your response only proves the point clearly, professionalism isn't a priority for you. Instead of whining about my review, maybe focus on running a decent business. But hey, thanks for confirming that my opinion was spot-on. If my review struck a nerve, maybe it's time to reflect on why that is instead of lashing out. I expressed my opinion based on my experience, and your response only confirms the lack of professionalism I mentioned. If you spent five minutes on that reply, maybe next time invest that energy into improving your business

Yelp
I adore the decor here. It's in a shopping centre and unexpected when walking in to the floor level, seemingly. Chowder was a nice add on to the high tea. I like the crumpet and the scone with the selection of dips. The lemon marmalade was my favorite. Winter Palace holiday rooibos tea, was my favorite. Egg nog was cinnamon and Marie Antoinette was sweet and fragrant. It is a pleasant afternoon and time well spent here!

Yelp
A really cute spot to have a tea date with friends. Reservations highly recommended! Especially if you come on the weekends! Conveniently located in Japantown with lots of adorable shops and eateries, my friend and I made reservations here about a week in advance. It was a rainy day and we appreciated they accommodated letting us come 15 minutes earlier to start our high tea. Atmosphere: Very pink and cute. It's not a huge space and it definitely gets completely packed. Bathrooms are located down the stairs in the building. Service: Our server was friendly. A little on the quiet side. I wish she checked in with us a bit more because it was a little hard to get her attention. The table next to us had a different server who was much more outgoing and came around way more often. They looked well taken care of. My friend and I both did the afternoon tea for one which came salad, a mini quiche and hotdog bite, 2 sandwiches, cucumber triangle, scone, crumpet, and 4 mini desserts (lemon cookie, chocolate cake square, mini fruit tart, chocolate covered strawberry). I got the strawberry fields tea which our server recommended. It was great! Perfectly fruity and had a nice finish on the palate. The sandwiches and savory items were pretty solid. I really enjoyed the scone but the crumpet wasn't that good. I would say the chocolate covered strawberry and the fruit tart were both winners but the rest of the desserts were just ok for me. Overall, it was a nice experience. Definitely a great place if you're looking to chat with a friend and have some tea and snacks.

Yelp
Cute little place in Jtown. The food and tea were good. Service was fine. The restroom was clean. I'd go back again.

Yelp
The food was really good we loved the egg salad sandwich and the cucumber sandwiches and all the delicious delectable tarts and treats that come with the tea tasting. The service was second to none as our servers and waiters were absolutely at our beck and call and was amazing. And the ambience was absolutely outstanding it felt like we were in a Parisian café somewhere near the Eiffel Tower. I definitely would recommend them and give them a 10 out of 10!!

Yelp
Cute tea salon in the lobby of a building. Service is great and they try their best to accommodate your dietary needs. Since it is in the lobby, the doors to enter might always be open, so dress accordingly. It was fine for us on a rainy day, but I'm sure it could get cold for some. Because of its location, the ambiance isn't up to par with other high tea spots. My sister and I went here on a lunch date and each ordered the "afternoon tea for one." We each selected our tea which came in a teapot (white peony was worth the extra $), along with 3 tiers of sweets, savories, and sandwiches. The middle tier was hands down the best with a crumpet and a scone. We were talking about just ordering those 2 items next time and skipping the rest.
google avatar

Carolyn D.

Yelp
3.5 stars - my friends and I truly enjoyed our time here but overall for the price we're paying the experience could be better. I loved the warm foods and being able to choose 2 tea flavors with our afternoon set. Where it fell short for us was the dessert selection - my friends and I weren't too keen about the macarons. The biggest surprise for us was that this isn't a standalone store but is at a lobby of a bigger building. The section that belongs to this tea salon is well decorated but we just couldn't ignore the fact that we're sitting in a lobby.

Yelp
We celebrated a friend's birthday here. Service was off to a rocky start when we had to ask for menus twice, but ended up ok after we placed our orders. The three us ordered the afternoon tea and there were some hits and misses with the savory and sweet bites. Nothing super fancy here. I did enjoy my peach tea! Located on the first floor of a collab-style space. It reminded me more of a cafe in a business building than an English tea salon. We did dig the photo op with a life sized cutout of the Queen!

Yelp
A cute place for high tea, especially for a special celebration. The atmosphere is inviting for adults and children. There is a "Tea for One" that includes a nice selection of savory and sweets and a large pot of tea for each guest. We ordered three of these for our party and it all came on one tiered tray, three of everything! There is a good selection of teas for everyone's taste. They provide a varied selection of black, green, herbal and special reserve teas. We ordered Strawberry Fields, Blue Eyes, and Peach Crumpet. The staff are all very friendly, sweet and helpful and our server was happy to take photos of us. As far as the food goes, the lower tier of our "Tea for One" came with cucumber, chicken, and egg salad finger sandwiches, tiny pigs in a blanket and small cheese scone. The second layer was crumpets and raspberry scones along with jam, clotted cream and lemon curd. The top layer was the desserts. We were so full we couldn't even eat the desserts but they are happy to give you a box to enjoy at home. Our favorites were the chicken/curry finger sandwich and raspberry scone. We were celebrating a special occasion and they brought out a festive cupcake with a tall candle. It was delicious with a light lemony frosting. They have a pink backdrop with a royal-looking chair against one wall that allows for more photo opportunities. Our high tea experience was really fun and special. Japantown is located directly across the street.

Yelp
For a very high priced English Tea spread, the service was really slow and inattentive. The crumpet was cold and hard, it's got to be warm and soft. Scones were flat, definitely nothing like real English scones. They served us tea, but we actually had to ask for tea cups All in all it was just a really overpriced and sloppy experience.

Yelp
How cute is this place?! Our kids had a half day at school for teacher professional development. So I decided to take my daughter and some of her friends to the city for a fun afternoon. This was the perfect spot for 6 and 7 year olds. While none of them took to the tea... here was hot chocolate for them and they are ALL the sweets - obvi.

Yelp
I included a picture of the tea spread. It was everything I had hoped for. My favorite is the cucumber sandwiches with cream cheese.

Yelp
My sister and I ordered the following: (8/10) Afternoon Tea for One - We both ordered this and each one comes with 3 sandwiches, scone, English muffin, mini salad, some pastries, and desserts. You also get one pot of tea each. The English muffin and scone also came with 3 spreads. I would say those two are the best parts of the finger foods but the sandwich's were also pretty good. The teas: (10/10) Peach Crumpet - I loved this tea so much! It smelled so delightful. It was light and even as the tea steeped it didn't become bitter at all. We even got it refilled! (5/10) Lychee Congou - We got this iced so maybe that's why it didn't taste as good. It's was an okay tea. We had a reservation around noon on a Thursday, but there were a couple empty seats for possible walk-ins, but not too many tables in general. The weekends are probably busier, so it's best to make a reservation ahead of time. They also require a credit card on file in case of no shows. The tables and decoration were super cute and if worthy! Service was lovely, both the girls who took our orders and the lady who explained each layer of the tea set in detail. She even offered to take our photo. They were all very friendly and smiley :) I will definitely be visiting again soon!

Yelp
Best scones around and a nice variety of teas. The owner is amazing, very fun and friendly. Love this place!! I'm so sad to see it go, but their location in Ross is just as awesome!

Yelp
Came here with a girlfriend on July 3rd since we had the day off via Yelp reservation. Cute vibes with a quirky photo booth at the entrance, and extremely cheerful server who checked in on us often! We ordered afternoon tea for one for both of us and tried the swamp tea and strawberry fields. We appreciated our server letting us know to eat the warm level first, but it was such a good amount we didn't even get to the dessert level. It's a nice location near Japantown where there is a parking structure and you can walk it off afterward.

Yelp
My friend had booked us an afternoon tea for Sunday since we heard they had a holiday special tea menu. The place was small, and the space was limited due since they were not a standalone store. The holiday tea set was $58 per person, which is relatively cheap compared to other afternoon tea places in the Bay, but it was underwhelming. The food quality and experience was pretty average in general. I think we ended up paying ~$140 total, including tips. I enjoyed the savory bites more, but they were typical and plain. The sweets were overly sugary and sweet - it felt like eating just spoonfuls of sugar. Needless to say, the food was pretty average. The overall experience and vibes were underwhelming as well. Tables were cramped next to each other, and decor was subpar. They did give us these big confetti popper things where you would pull them to find a small gift, a crown, and a quote. I advise you to do this AFTER you finish eating. My friend and I made the mistake of doing it before we ate, and all the glitter from the popper got into our tea and on the plates.

Yelp
The ambience for this place is very reflective of the British culture. From the decor to the dish ware. Crown and crumpet are defiantly a fan of the royals. The service was amazing, the two ladies are well mannered, kind and very welcoming. Food was great, a true attempt to make it as authentic as a English experience as possible! We had the tea for one- and it was filling with a great variety. The peach tea was great! And thoroughly enjoyed the pot. Would defiantly recommend for a lunch/date.

Yelp
I took my daughter here and we had a great time! Good thing about high tea in Japantown is that there is plenty of street parking and parking lots around. I enjoyed the scones w/clotted cream, lemon curd, jams paired with my Earl Grey. They were able to make my daughter's Pretty in Pink tea iced. It's a great location to catch up with friends and share moments with family.

Yelp
Variety of vegetarian options: 3/5 There were just a couple of vegetarian sandwiches which we ordered and it was nice of the team to substitute the non-veg options. My only qualm with this restaurant was the lack of cleanliness - some of the dishes were a little dirty and the table and seats weren't cleaned properly when we sat down. In general, not the biggest fan of the ambiance and I think the team could spread out the tables a bit and do a lot more to make the space cozier.

Yelp
My sister and I have been interested in trying out an afternoon tea experience and since we were already in Japantown for the Cherry Blossom Festival we decided to check this place out as well. We had reservations for 1:30 pm and boy was that a good time because we had midday exhaustion especially from the overwhelming crowd at the festival. At first it was a little odd that this place is in the lobby of a multilevel building, but this feeling went away once we were seated. We shared an afternoon tea for one (there's a split surcharge on that) and ordered an extra pot of tea (so two pots total so we each could choose a tea flavor). Really enjoyed the food. Simple but great! My favorites were the finger sandwiches (soft bread and they were assembled neatly) and the butter-crusted crumpet (I've had crumpets elsewhere and have even made them at home, but I've never had one that had a crisp like the one here!). We pretty much ate everything except for the matcha butter cookie; as much as we like matcha-flavored goodies, the cookie was too rich and buttery and it kinda clashed with the rest of the food. Splitting the afternoon tea for one was a good call because we were satiated at the end and we didn't want to be overly full when returning to the festival. As for the tea, I got the Paris and this tea was really smooth. I actually did notice the vanilla notes to it. Definitely recommend this one if you're not too fond of the bitterness of tea. My sister got the Earl Grey, one of her favorite tea flavors. I tried a cup of it.....it was Earl Grey alright lol. It was pretty strong, just how my sister likes it. I know this review is getting quite long, but I have to also mention the service. Stellar! The servers were super sweet and friendly and I appreciated that they came by at the tables frequently to check up on us and other guests. Splendid afternoon tea experience overall. A very good spot to just wind down and enjoy some light food and tea.

Yelp
Cute place and love the tiny door at the bottom of the counter with the mailbox. The giant clock with the tea cups. Love that it was quiet and very airy. Food was excellent , very cute tier and the scone is excellent with lemon curd. Great tea options. Service was excellent . Young girl and provides excellent recommendations . Will be back for more and bringing more friends and family to try.

Yelp
My wife and I have been wanting to experience afternoon tea for the longest time and I'm glad that this place was our first time trying afternoon tea. The storefront itself is kind of discreet, but just look for the doors with the red entryway across from the Japantown plaza! We had a reservation for 11 AM, right when they opened on Sunday. The place filled up quickly within the first hour so reservations are highly recommended if you're trying to visit during the weekend. We got the Afternoon Tea for One (x2) so basically everything x2. The Earl Grey tea tasted just what you expected from a traditional earl grey. We also got the Marie Antoinette, a flavored black tea with notes of rose, vanilla, and strawberry. The rose wasn't so overpowering and was actually well balanced. Of all the food we had, the crumpets and scones were the stars. They were recommended to be eaten first since they were freshly baked. The scones were probably one of the best scones I've ever had! This was also my first time trying crumpets and they were complimented well by the jams and spreads they provide! The finger sandwiches, savouries, and sweet treats were all as you would expect. Nothing extraordinary, but not disappointing either. Our server was super friendly and helpful in guiding us on our first time trying afternoon tea. As we were finishing up, it did take our server a little while to get to us and give us the bill because the tea salon got really busy. She did check up on us during the service to see how we liked everything and if there was anything else we needed which is always appreciated. Again, reservations highly recommended for the weekends!

Yelp
Good selection of food. Customizable if you're more in the savory or sweet mood. Fun for small group of 4-6ppl. Definitely recommend for mommy and me tea party or ladies brunch.

Yelp
I took my mom here for a Mother's Day tea! We each got the tea for one and it looks like a lot of little things but it's actually really filling! Everything was delicious and we were not even able to finish. My favorite items were the scone and the sandwiches. You get three different sandwiches, cream cheese and cucumber, ham and cheese, and egg salad. I liked all but the but the egg salad was my favorite! It was very cutely decorated! I took so many pics because of it. There weren't too many people there at 1:15 on a Thursday afternoon, so it was very easy to be served promptly, but we didn't feel rushed. All of the decorations were very colorful (pink in particular) and tea or UK themed.

Yelp
Crown and Crumpet is a wonderful experience from start to finish. It's like being transported away to another time and location. Service is perfect, but warm. The tea and food are excellent, and presentation is just lovely. One of my favorite experiences in the City.

Yelp
Attended a Go Ask Alice special event where we dressed up in costumes. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and they even found me a scrumptious gluten-free option.

Yelp
This was a nice little tea salon SF Japantown. I was having trouble with the Yelp reservation system but was easily able to text the owner and make reservations. They do have two locations so be very clear which one you are going to. This location is in the lobby of a building. There are shops up the stairs and bathrooms down the stairs. Visitors to the building walk by constantly. The decorations are cute but not the traditional tea parlor environment that I had been envisioning. That being said service was excellent. We enjoyed the wide tea selection and the accommodation for vegetarianism. All of the sandwiches were delicious, the sun dried tomato one was my fave. All of the desserts were amazing especially the tapioca. Kudos to the chef. Portion size was generous. Honestly couldn't finish everything and took some home. Overall great little place.

Yelp
Really love this tea salon. This was our second time. Love the quality of the food, scones and the sandwiches were standouts. We devoured them. We loved the butter and jams with our scones and crumpets. It was a busy Saturday so we did get our tea trays later than usual, so we were especially hungry! Wish they could have different space that allowed more room and privacy for customers instead of lobby. Would come back for the scones and sandwiches alone!

Yelp
I had considered making a reservation that same morning via yelp. When I first checked 3-4 hours prior to opening, literally all the spots were open. However, when I checked back an hour prior to opening (after I consulted my sister and decided we were absolutely going to go), all the options were gone. We decided to take a chance anyways as we've walked by before and the store never looked that packed on weekdays. When we came by, the hostess said there were no openings because they were fully booked. However, we were still able to grab a table (a little confusing, but we're not complaining!). We ordered the tea for two ($36 per person). One set comes with mini delicacies on a 3-tiered stand. 1st tier: a sampling of tiny sweets including lemon tart, panna cotta, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a cookie 2nd tier: a crumpet and a fruit scone warm from the oven, accompanied with jam, clotted cream, and lemon curd. They recommend that you eat these first while they're hot and fresh. 3rd tier: 3 tea sandwiches with 2 savory pastries and a side salad Choice of 1 tea per person (can't pick more and they didn't offer to fill up the pot with hot water) The tea was actually decent in flavor and tasted like tea. My sister got the white peony and I tried the lychee congou. Neither got too strong either, even after the tea was seeping in the pot for over an hour. At the risk of coming across as pretentious... if you've ever had afternoon tea in Asia or even in England, you'll know what I mean when I say I dream about the more elegant experience at those tea shops. The ambience just isn't quite as nice as you're packed in close quarters and located in the first floor of a shop. The other patrons seated next to us were a bit loud, which impacted the mood a little. However, there's not that many options for afternoon tea in the Bay Area, so you kinda have to take what you can get.

Yelp
By far the best afternoon tea I've had. The decor was beautiful. Everything from the tea sandwiches to the chicken pot pie and the tea! Delicious and filling!! I most definitely will come back and will recommend to friends.

Yelp
The Crown and Crumpet was fantastic. My partner and I were interested in an afternoon tea and this place didn't disappoint. The shop itself is right across from the mall, so parking was not difficult. It's a quaint little space in a modern building. Charles and Camilla will greet you at the door along with a lovely chair in case you want a photo op. The staff were friendly and looked after us, but not to the point that it was intrusive - which I loved. I had the stardust tea and my partner had the Paris tea. It was wonderful! Mine tasted like Christmas in my mouth. My partner says his was like tasting a delicious piece of caramel. The tea service was absolutely beautiful to behold! The sandwiches were tasty and well portioned, the scones were fluffy and melted in your mouth, and the desserts were adorable (a chocolate tea cup with chocolate mouse inside? Genius!). And to top it all off it was reasonably priced for the amount of tea and food we received. All in all if I could give more than five stars I would. Will definitely be going back again.

Yelp
Overall my experience here was good and I enjoyed trying it out, but I will say their desserts are definitely better than the savory food. The staff explained different teas to my friend and I and helped us find a tea we'd both enjoy! Really appreciated that!
