Heard all about the great malts and huge BLT and it did not disappoint! Our small group went around 2pm on a Saturday and got sat right away, no problems. We indulged in the chocolate malt, cherry shake, heart stopping BLT, grilled ham & cheese and the big cheese. The BLT was great, but definitely made us close to saying there was too much bacon (which we didn’t know was possible!) The bread was perfectly toasted & buttery for every sandwich. Highly recommend for casual, throwback dining with quality food for the price.

I have been hearing about Crown Candy for so long and finally made it out here with some coworkers. We went on a weekday around 1pm and still had to wait about 45 minutes outside for a table of 4. Inside is very antique and old school with like twenty seats. The staff moves fast and is super friendly. I had to try the chocolate milkshake, definitely 10/10. I got the tuna salad sandwich and it was basically all tuna with barely any bread and on the saltier side. I still ate it all. My coworkers got different sandwiches and they seemed to like theirs more. We also saw a couple of people order the one pound bacon sandwich which is wild! I could never do it but it was cool to see it in person. Overall I liked the atmosphere and the history of the place but the tuna sandwich is not something I would get again. I do want to try their handmade candy too next time.

Crunchy fresh BLT, thin multiple layer of bacon made light but crunchiness. Generous bacon portion made great ratio with tomato, juicy tasty. Ice cream is home made, it is much more buttery and creamy, the flavor also very intense. Malt milkshake is just sweet but not overpowering.

Such a fun restaurant with great food and shakes! Our favorite thing was our pecan caramel shake but our BLT and Reuben were delicious as well!

Crown Candy is truly a city jewel. My granny used to bring us here every year for chocolate Easter bunnies, and those memories are still sweet. As an adult, my favorites have evolved, the strawberry malt is undefeated, and I’ve grown fond of the roast beef melt. And just like my grandma, I still grab the pecan clusters for myself every time. Some traditions are just meant to be kept.

This place is a staple in St. Louis. I stopped by today which is my first experience. Old school vibes with traditional real life old school furniture and cookware. They make the chocolate candy in house. Also noticed the customers seemed very happy and the atmosphere was engaging with nice ambiance. I looked around for candles but didnt see any yet I kept noticing lighting that gave me candle vibes.

This very unique place serves the most amazing BLT on this planet. 1 whole pound of crisp delicious bacon on your toasted bread. It's a heart attack on a plate but worth every bite. Their tuna sandwich was also very good....says my friend (so not from first hand taste testing). They have limited seating so be prepared to wait to get a table. We've tried to go back to eat but we were tight on time, so had to choose a different lunch venue. So arrive early to be able to get in faster. They have homemade chocolates...delicious. The vanilla malt is a most heavenly creamy taste. I would love to try more things but I have to be able to get in the door first 😁... problem for me, but great for their business. Limited parking close by also. Worth the wait but don't go if you're in a rush.

I stopped by Crown Candy just to get a quick tour, and to my surprise another customer highly recommended the chili. O. M. Geeeeeee! That chili was AMAZING! So flavorful and comforting—and they even gave me plenty of oyster crackers to go with it. I couldn’t leave without picking up a bag of Dad’s oatmeal cookies and a half-pound of pecan turtles. I was in absolute hog heaven! Such a classic spot with great food and even better vibes. Highly recommend!

I came here I got invited by the owner some months back and finally was able to make it in on my own and I must say the BLT Sandwich is undisputed lol it is amazing they load it with bacon as you can see from my picture I will definitely be back to try out there shakes and other items this was a quick swing thru but crown candy is a STL fave I'm surprised it took me this long When I arrived it was middle of day so it was a little busy but very laid back everyone was so nice

Good Food, Fun Environment, and Friendly Crew. I took my riding buds from CA, WV, and IN to enjoy the iconic Heart Attack BLT and home made hand dipped ice cream. I highly recommend this StL "Old School" family owned luncheon and candy shop. Take your buds and treat them to an outstanding lunch experience.

This candy/ice cream shop has been around since the earlier 1900's. The place is neat and all a throw back to yester-years. The place just has a near feel to it all. I give them big kudos for keeping as much originality as they have. - Peanut clusters: these are good...but need salt added to the peanuts for a better cluster. - Banana ice cream: hey, this sure banana alright...and a decent ice cream.

Yum. My husband, a local, has been telling me about this place for a few years and we didn't have time to come last time we were in St. Louis so this time we made it a point to try to come for lunch. This is an old school soda shop with lunch items (hot dogs, chili, sandwiches, etc.) and milkshakes and sundaes that has been around in St. Louis for over 100 years. The inside if very nostalgic and simple and service is direct but friendly. They also have a candy counter where you can get fudge and other chocolate sweets to go. We arrived around 3pm and were lucky that we only waited about 5-10 minutes before being sat. We had our daughter and they easily brought her a highchair and some crackers. My husband was right - portions are huge here and generous and I saw several huge sandwiches and salads and shakes going around when we were looking over the menu. Prices are extremely fair here for the amount of food you are going to get. In the end, we went with the Turkey sandwich which is just the same as the BLT but with about half the amount of bacon replaced with turkey. It was delish and it's been a long time since I've had miracle whip and it was very very good. I also wanted some greens so we went with a chop salad - which was HUGE. It was served in a salad bowl basically - like the kind you use for a dinner party with friends and was loaded with cheese and more bacon and more turkey and ham and tomatoes. It was very good - but too big and too much meat when partnered with the sandwich. My husband got one of their summer special milkshakes in Dreamsicle flavor and it was very very good. It was the size of three shakes bc they brought it to us in the metal mixer and two glasses which we filled 3x! After we ate I ordered a classic sundae with coffee ice cream, fudge, baked nuts and whip and a cherry. SO good! It's a bit much - but I would def. come back for an ice cream treat. I hear there is usually a long wait but you can order at the counter to go if there is a long line - we were lucky and no wait the Friday afternoon we arrived.

Closer to 3.5. 5 for the ice cream, 5 for the decor, 3 for the food. The service was friendly and efficient and the decor is more like ice cream parlor than candy shop or soda shop but it's cute and appealing. Go for the ice cream. The shakes and malts are very large and delicious. You'll get between 2 and 3 servings per shake and they're worth every sip. The sandwiches are equally large but very meh. The heart stopping BLT was overstuffed but joyless. The turkey on the turkey melt was not especially good quality and it was very noticeable. While the shop may once have made their own confectionery they certainly don't now. Skip the repackaged store bought stuff and save your calories for the awesome chocolate malt.

Always a great time at Crown Candy! It was my boyfriend's first time and he loved the original decor and tin ceiling tiles. We shared the hot stopping blt and a peach malt. We were pleasantly surprised that they split the sandwich on plates and that both plates were given a pickle spear and chips. It was a very nice touch by the kitchen and service staff. I can't wait to come back. It's a mainstay for Saint Louisans for a reason!

What a glorious expience! I've been going there for 45 years (but only occasionally....). I always get the Hot fudge Newport with extra pecans. This is as close to Nirvana as humans can get! The icecream is creamy and the fudge thick and gooey. I'm so glad that they were able to come back from the fire so exquisitely and continue to be such a sweet adition to the Northside!

Even though Crown Candy is a well-known staple here, I have only had a pleasure of enjoying it twice. The first time I came, I tried the BLT turkey club, which was really good with the chips and I tried orange ice cream very flavorful. I was just stopping to grab a tuna sandwich and some candy, but both were good. I typically am very iffy about buying tuna and restaurants, but they hit the nail on the head and I'll definitely be trying it again. One thing I love about this place is that it never loses its character. The two times that I went were pretty far spread and it felt just like the first time. The staff is really friendly and they make you feel like a regular. Love this gem.

Simply the best shakes & malts that have completely ruined my experience anywhere else! Everyone of the staff make us feel spoiled. A STL institution that shouldn't be missed! Might as well grab an assortment of sweets since you're already there. ‍

When we found out our daughter-in-law had never been to Crown Candy, we had to make the trip to this St Louis icon. Go when then open at 11am or you will get in the line outside. Booths only hold up to 4 people. Today we had Bre as our waitress. She is the best! My son and daughter-in-law split the Heart Stopping BLT and a bowl of chili, my hubby order the BLT. I got the Tuna Sandwich. Banana Malts for all. Food and service was excellent as always. Then, of course, we all got a treat from the candy counter in the way out. Fresh and delicious. I'd give more stars if I could.

One visit and you'll know why its been around for 100 years. Crown Candy Kitchen sits in a neighborhood that was largely decimated by all the economic calamities that hurt many parts of St Louis. But it survives as an anchor that seems to be attracting some revitalization to the area. Lets hope it all works out ! They make their own ice cream and a wide assortment of candy. I got an old fashioned sundae with warm caramel and a ton of whipped cream and candied pecans. Holy cow ! How did we ever get away from places like this in favor of Dairy Queen? Something bad happened along that path. The menu features sandwiches and other lunch staples but the real draw is the soda fountain with the ice cream treats. Its not a big place so seating is limited. Couple that with its popularity and you can be met with a long line. It was a 45 minute wait on a Saturday afternoon so I came back Monday morning right when they opened. That might be your best plan if you want to avoid the wait.

An absolute must for those seeking out historical STL spots! Crown Candy has been open since 1913 and has maintained its classic soda shop interior while continuing to serve delicious and filling sandwiches, and of course amazing shakes and malts. The BLT is known for being enormous, and I always enjoy their roast beef and cheddar that comes on tasty grilled sourdough. You have to get a shake or a malt of course, I always opt for the classic chocolate. There can be a wait on the weekends, but it is worth it, and luckily we walked right in for a weekday lunch.

Food - Simple and FANTASTICALLY DELICIOUS! Real soda fountain sodas! Service - Servers were on point with their service. Very satisfied with their work. Ambiance - Pretty cool retro soda fountain candy shop vibe. Go and make your own decision. I will be going back.

Crown Candy is an iconic place in St Louis. I have ate here 3-4 times. The heart stopping BLT is awesome. Pictured is the turkey bacon melt. Great sandwich as well. Worth the wait in line. Gotta get candy on the way out lol. Service is good once seated. Not the best neighborhood is the only downfall. Over all great ambiance.

On our drive through St Louis, we visited the Crown Candy Kitchen and as expected, we stepped into a delicious time warp! Reuben was our taste buds guide through this century-old candy wonderland, and let me tell you, it was a gem, just like the candy they've been serving for almost 100 years. It could go toe to toe with some of the Jewish delis in NY. The milkshakes? Gigantic and perfect--seriously, one of these babies could double as a weapon of mass brain freeze. As for the location, let's just say it's "charmingly urban." We were approached by a local connoisseur who offered us a unique trade - his cigarette if we buy him and ice cream, I guess It's all part of the experience, right? So if you're up for great food, friendly service, and a little extra adventure, Crown Candy Kitchen is your spot. The welcoming committee of a rough, unshaven gentlemen and his odd manners just adds to the experience. The wait staff however were super nice!

I visited this restaurant with family recently for a late afternoon ice cream treat. Everyone was able to order something that really matched their unique sweet toothes as we crammed into the tiny original booths. This place sure does have some incredible history and you can see it on the walls. They close at 5pm so just prepare accordingly. Enjoy.

I was out with my friends and their mom, and she had suggested we stop by Crown Candy Kitchen for a snack after our outing that day. She said it was historic and delicious and she was not wrong. I wasn't feeling up for any of the sandwiches so I went with ice cream: a scoop of raspberry and a scoop of chocolate chip. They served it in the old school tall ice cream glass with a long spoon. I had wanted some fries on the side but they interestingly enough don't offer them. We all got some sort of sundae: chocolate marshmallow, crown, and swiss chocolate. Everyone greatly enjoyed their ice cream. You can tell it's an old recipe that has been serving it up for over a century. The servers were great even though we came in close to closing time. They didn't rush us although they were not shy about reminding us it was almost quitting time! We all got some chocolates to go. They had a huge array of chocolate figures, all of which were intricate. They had a bunch ready for Easter, I imagine those would go over well at Easter gatherings. Because of all their chocolate figures and without a chocolates menu you can't see all that they offer so ask if they've got your faves. I got a quarter pound of my favorite milk chocolate haystacks and they were so delicious and lasted a while.

Almost too much bacon on the BLT. Key word almost. 16 bucks biggest BLT I've ever had . The wife ordered the roast beef melt, she said it was amazing. We split a strawberry malt , reminded me of the old McDonald's shakes back when they were good

Came here for lunch on a Friday and we were not disappointed! My sister in law and I split two sandwiches: the turkey and bacon melt and the egg salad sandwich. Both were soooo tasty and on amazing buttery bread - perfectly toasted. The egg salad was perfection and the turkey bacon melt was a keeper too. We also shared a heavenly chocolate shake Of course, the decor is really cool and looking at the homemade sweets is fun. We came in mid-March so they had a ton of chocolate bunnies and Easter sweets on display.

It's a chocolate and candy wow factor mixed in with a 50's style luncheonette. People wait on the street for hours for a table. The wait to buy chocolate wasn't as long but they limit the number of people inside at a time. So much to choose from you may have a hard time or buy too much. Go visit and enjoy a trip back in time.

Growing up in STL, I have always adored Crown Candy. Fast service, delicious food. From malts, to grilled cheeses, to the famous BLT, there is something for everyone!

We are at the oldest Soda Fountain in St. Louis today. I am getting excited! Starving and ordered the BLT with a root beer float. Loving the Old Soda Fountain vibe! The candy counter is fun! Both of us ordered the BLT- we should have mixed it up... that being said, bacon lovers rejoice- there is like a pound of bacon on this sandwich. You cannot possibly pick it up and put it your mouth. Eating it requires some strategy and utensils. The root beer float was excellent- as someone who is more root beer and less float, I could have used a refill on the root beer. My partner ordered a banana split. This was done right with two lengthwise slices of banana with scoops of creamy vanilla ice cream, chocolate, strawberry, and pineapple toppings, whipped cream, crushed cashews and a cherry on top. Sorry, no picture of the banana split- it was devoured quickly. Also- the service was great. Depending on when you arrive, we are told there is sometimes a line out the door. Fortunately, we got right in today. A+ on the entire package- will return with family and friends!

This place is a MUST TRY is you're in St.Louis, MO. It's been around since 1913 and has been on multiple food shows and even has their own malt challenge! I always get a malt and bowl of chili. Great consistency and fulfilling food. Candy Andy is top-notch!

STL Staple that one must try. One must go for their amazing shakes, malts and candy but also for their chili Mac or BLT. Their BLT sandwich is absolutely stacked with deliciousness. The bacon is crispy, the lettuce is fresh, and the tomatoes are juicy. They really know how to make a mouthwatering BLT. The sandwich is so big and packed with flavor that every bite is a delight. Crown Candy Kitchen is a classic spot with a cozy atmosphere and friendly service. If you're in the mood for a delicious and filling BLT, you've got to try Crown Candy Kitchen! Enjoy!

Absolutely loved the old school theme of Crown Candy. Had to try the Heart Stopping BLT and it was well worth the $17 paid for it!

This was on the advice of one of my close friends and he did not disappoint. After a lengthy visit to various places in and out of St. Louis, I found myself in what looked like a sketchy section of the city to visit this very old establishment. You walk in and are quickly sent back in time to soda fountain joint from the 40s and 50s. I didn't have to wait for a table and knew exactly what I wanted. They brought a sandwich I did not expect to look the way it did. When my friend told me to have the BLT, I didn't expect it to have a mountain to bacon. I thought maybe four thick slices, but not four inches! LOL!. I was actually stunned for the first time and definitely have the pictures to prove it. The sandwich came with ridged potato chips and a quarter of a pickle. Everything was good and I couldn't believe I actually finished it. I wanted to get some fudge but thought about the insane heat I was already enduring and that it wouldn't make it intact by the time I made it to my hotel. I'll make sure I come back when it's cooler and enjoy what I'm sure is incredible fudge.

Everyone should try this place at least once. We ordered the marshmallow shake and the Turkey Bacon melt! The atmosphere is nostalgic and the staff is friendly and prompt. We enjoyed it and will be back!!!

It's been years since I visited, so I was pumped to be back. And somehow it was even better than before. Absolutely love the classic atmosphere. It's like going back in time when you walk in. The food was outstanding - best egg salad I've had in STL. And of course, dessert was so good. I got the Oreo ice cream and had no regrets. I'll probably come back for a pint of it. Service was also amazing. We went to a much more expensive restaurant earlier in the week and had WAY better service at crown candy. Staff was so friendly and attentive. Don't sleep on this STL staple.

Hidden treasure!!! If you are near here you have to make time to try this place. It is so cute! Super small and really you can't have a party larger than 4. I love nostalgia of this place. The ice cream and candy bar are awesome and so good. But come on the sandwiches I mean are insane!!! So good, and so worth the wait.

That ambiance of this place transports you to different era. The portions are huge(!). We share a malt (chocolate with cherries, delicious) and a BLT; couldn't finish everything. Probably the best BLT I've had, and the most bacon I've eaten at once. Definitely a place to checkout.

When I tell you, this is the BEST blt I've had in my life...let the chuch say AMEN. It's soooo filling, I can never eat it all. This is what they're known for, y'all. Malts come in second place, their chocolate malt to be exact. This is a great day date place. Whenever someone come in from out of town, I always take them here. I love supporting small businesses. They have delicious homemade chocolates as well. The ambiance is busy and family oriented. Service is usually pretty quick as well. Don't let the line out the door deter you. Also the line out the door is for people who are waiting to dine in. You can just walk in if you're ordering something to go.

Have been coming here my entire life, 40 years. Awesome atmosphere. The service is always fast, nice, and accommodating. Get yourself a malt and bacon sandwich. Then, get another shake or malt to go (in a difference flavor of course), along with your chocolate bunny and caramels. Love CCK!

Really cool place filled with classic Americana decor. Sandwiches are super large and tasty, and the workers are very friendly. Expect to wait out in a line if you plan on dining in. The shakes were super yummy, and of course, we got the sandwich piled high with bacon.

Waited an hour, but I wanted to be inside and feel the old school vibes, not get takeout as one friend suggested. We split a chocolate malt between three of us, which was plentiful, and two of us split a huge BLT with what must have been a pound of bacon. I also bought candy to take to my dad for Father's Day.

Man! I was really looking forward to that sandwich. This isn't a food critique, by the way. I didn't get the sandwich. I understood taking care of the customers who were there before me; getting them seated at a more suitable table than you sat them initially, but you probably should've taken them their food when you did that. Alas, you waited to come back to the register, my mouth was already watering, and then leave 2 more times passing out previous orders. I don't think that was cool (you probably needed to be there to understand), All the guy (possible owner) had to do was say something to the effect of 'sorry but let me take care of this and I'll be right with you.' That's it. The service was dismissive and disrespectful. That's my experience. This shop has been around for years and is a St. Louis treasure. It was my intention to put Crown Candy in my monthly food budget. I hope in the future they don't treat their patrons the way they treated me.

Amazing food and service! I had the BLT and my friend had the turkey and bacon sandwich. Both were excellent. The BLT was the largest I've ever seen. The service was attentive and the candy we had was delicious too. We will definitely return.

What a gem!! We waited in line for about 45 minutes to get seated but boy, was it worth it! From the moment you walk in, you are instantly taken back in time to a classic soda fountain! The staff is incredibly kind and helpful! We all ordered the heart stopping BLT and if you want a sandwich loaded with bacon, well this is the place to get it! I couldn't even finish it, it was so good! We also ordered some milkshakes (chocolate and strawberry banana) that can easily be split between 2 or 3 people. Great atmosphere, great food, lots of fun! I was born and raised in St. louis but somehow never made it to Crown Candy Kitchen. First off this place is a gem in the Old North neighborhood. It's nice and clean and the service was fast and friendly. I shared the delicious BLT with my best friend, my dog. We both loved it. I also loved the real root beer!

This is one place that has a icon status in St. Louis and I do believe nationwide. And it's one of the rare places that actually lives up to his status. It's the Elvis of going to get something that is sweet there. Their candy is spot on and ice cream is very very good. You can't really go wrong with going to crown candy And if you want your kids to add an extra star onto your daddy or mommy status, I would seriously consider taking them there.

I ordered the Reuben because I was headed home and really didn't feel like having a heart attack on the highway. Next trip to St Louis and I'll start with this place first. Ended my visit with one of their many old school sundaes. Really wanted to try a banana split, but again....that whole heart attack thing crossed my mind. I bought some chocolate covered oreos and a few other homemade goodies for when I get home. I may or may not give them to friends/family. More than likely not.... This place was one of my highlights of a wknd in St Louis.
