San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"El Techo in the Mission has been replaced by Cubita, a Cuban rooftop bar with the same skyline views. On top of punch bowls and cocktails—including a clarified piña colada—they have dishes like lechón, empanadas, and a whole-fried rock cod." - julia chen 1, patrick wong

The 21 Best Bars In SF - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Cubita is a Cuban spot in the old El Techo space—so fans of the former Mission rooftop bar can once again get their fill of skyline views and fruity cocktails. The new spot is injected with fresh energy thanks to the photo booth, checkered dance floor, and shareable Cuban dishes like charred mango habanero wings and fritangas. The whole bar is basically a 360-degree photo op, so come with a dressed-up group to admire the cityscape and feed your camera roll before bar-hopping your way down Mission Street." - julia chen 1, patrick wong, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

Skip the food and go to Cubita for skyline views and drinks - Review - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The rooftop bar formerly known as El Techo is now Cubita. Ride the elevator to the penthouse and you’re greeted with skyline views and decor that’s a not-so-subtle nod to Cuba—we’re talking a clothesline of fedoras and a mural of a gorilla smoking a cigar. Despite the kitsch, this place is still a good time with a dance floor, photo booth, and Selena pumping through the speakers. video credit: Taylor Gomez video credit: Taylor Gomez Pause Unmute The menu of Cuban dishes gets the job done, but is largely unmemorable. And since this is a rooftop bar with prices to match the altitude, we’d recommend coming for drinks and a snack with a small group before or after heading to dinner nearby. Prioritize the ropa vieja empanadas and black bean-smeared tostones to go along with a fruity cocktail while inevitably commenting on how clear the skies are. If you end up here for a meal, go for the lechon asado and skip the underwhelming cubano. Food Rundown Fritanga A nice way to start things off and try some of Cubita’s best small plates, complete with yuca rellena, tostones, black bean, and a salad that’s a tad sweet. Do you like fried things? Then you’ll like this. photo credit: Julia Chen Alitas De Pollo These wings have a good char on them, but heavily rely on the mango habanero sauce for flavor. photo credit: Michelle Min Empanadas De Ropavieja Great empanadas, filled with a saucy ropavieja that we’d eat as an entree on its own. PlayMute video credit: Taylor Gomez Lechon Asado The best main on the menu. The pork has caramelized edges that melt on contact with your tongue, and each piece pulls apart with ease. PlayMute video credit: Taylor Gomez Cubano Underwhelming. Feel free to skip—the sandwich loses its structure pretty quickly, and is overwhelmed by the bread. PlayMute video credit: Taylor Gomez Cocktails The cocktail menu here features a lot of rum and crowd-pleasing tropical fruit. If it’s that kind of night, they also do $65 punch bowls that serve four to five people. photo credit: Michelle Min" - Julia Chen

The 11 Best San Francisco Rooftops For Eating & Drinking - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The rooftop bar formerly known as El Techo is now Cubita. The Cuban restaurant and bar in the Mission has the same skyline views, and new decor that very obviously screams “Cuba”—we’re talking a clothesline of fedoras and a mural of a gorilla smoking a cigar. But despite the kitsch, this place is still a good time with a dance floor, photo booth, and Selena pumping through the speakers. The Best New Cocktail Bars in the San Francisco Bay Area | Eater SF

"The storied patio of El Techo de Lolinda has returned from a brief closure this year, kicking off June under a new name and menu: Cubita. The food menu is now decidedly Cuban, touting platano maduro and lechon asado, but the view of Mission is still spectacular and beloved as before. We love a carajillo, but there are daiquiris and punch bowls to help you rediscover this old-new bar." - Dianne de Guzman

Fantastic Sunday brunch experience at Cubita. Highlights: Ceviche Caribeno was beautifully plated with fresh halibut, shrimp, mango, and avocado - absolutely delicious and generous portion. Yuca Rellena croquettes were crispy and flavorful. Congri Con Huevos from brunch menu was light and perfectly presented. Drinks were excellent - especially the mojito which wasn't overly sweet like most places. Old Cuban, Carajillo, and El Presidente were all well-crafted. Outstanding service: when our brunch dish was delayed, staff proactively removed it from the bill. Manager Vincent gave us a great recommendation to come for brunch. Casual rooftop atmosphere with good vibes. Great food, reasonable prices, and exceptional customer service. Definitely returning!

Love this place. So pretty. Food is so good. Coming back with all my girlies from out of town soon. Love more Caribbean food in the bay.

Cubita still gives similar rooftop vibes to el Techo. I forgot to take pictures of the food but Food, prices, environment, vibe, shots, and stuff were all great! 10/10

Ambiance 5/5 - feels like a hidden rooftop in the heart of mission with the coolest elevator to get there. Outside is sunny but shaded, breezy but covered - absolutely phenomenal views of the city! The trio went on Saturday around 5ish and got seated along the edge within minutes. Service 5/5 - our server was so fast and attentive. Everyone there is super friendly! Cocktails 5/5 - everything we ordered were so good! Qué Bola had a lovely foam on top of the milkwash - drool. The Havana Heat was also one of my favorites! Food 5/5 - Yuca Rellena was pretty much like croquette but somehow the flavors made it taste Italian - it was a trip! Empanadas de Ropavieja had the loveliest crust with the best filling. Would highly recommend! Alitas de Pollo are sauced chicken wings with a lovely char. The pieces were thick and juicy! We cannot wait to come back for more food next time!

Google
I don’t go to rooftop bars often but this was a great vibe! Building is lower to the ground which is a huge plus when it comes to the wind. Drinks and bites are just as good as the vibe. I recommend the Alitas de Pollo - chicken wings with a spicy kick to it but maintains a light sauce. The Yuca Frita (fries) were 10/10. Great light, fried texture with a refreshing side dip. We ordered 3x more of these for the group. Service was attentive and food was well paced. Would come back again on a sunny day! Great new addition to the Mission. The food menu doesn’t start until 4pm as a heads up.

Google
Didn’t realize El Techo closed down but Cubita still gives similar rooftop vibes albeit with more Cuban-themed decor and color schemes. The food is much improved compared to before though! :) We came for a quick dinner before a show in the area and really enjoyed the fritanga appetizer sampler platter (came in threes which was perfect for 3 people). Also got the whole fried fish which was also tasty! Our server was friendly and nice, though hard to flag down when we were trying to get the check paid earlier so we’d be able to walk over to our show as soon as we were done eating.

We came here for drinks and appetizers. It was a cold and foggy night in SF, but there were heat lamps at the rooftop restaurant, which made the cold more tolerable. I got the platano maduro which consisted of fried plantains topped with burrata cheese in a plate of black bean puree. The black bean puree was salty and went well with the sweet fried plantains. The burrata cheese made for good cheese pull.

Cubita, formerly El Techo and recently remodeled, is a great rooftop spot with lively murals and city views. Loving the Cuban menu refresh. The Fritana (plantain plate) was delicious and perfect for sharing. The Lechon Asado was super tender, and the Ceviche Caribeño had a nice combo of mango and avocado. The Zunzun cocktail stood out with crystal clear ice and a decorative leaf with a cutout design, and it tasted as good as it looked. The staff were very attentive and checked on us throughout dinner. The checkered dance floor in the back hints at fun salsa nights to come, and I’d love to go back for live music!

Yelp
Buen lugar de comida cubana, con una vista espectacular al Downtown de San Francisco, muy buena comida y servicio.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I was very excited to try Cubita! The food really hit the spot! The menu was very well thought out. I felt like there was something for everyone. We came here for girls night and had a wonderful time! We practically tried the whole Menu and was not disappointed. My favorite dishes were the Empanadas de Ropavieja, yuca rellena, chicken wings and the ceviche. The cuban sandwich and the burger were also really good. Dessert was also very delicious! Definitely don't leave without trying the Guava and cheese empanadas and the Majarete The food was very tasty and well seasoned. Service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. For drinks I really enjoyed Zunzun, Carajillo and the Old Cuban. I will definitely be back. The food, ambience and the drinks were great! I can't wait to be back and try the Brunch menu!

Yelp
I've been a big fan of El Techo for a long time and was sad to hear them closing. After hearing that Cubita was the same owners just a rebrand, I knew I would be a fan. I went on a Saturday with same day reservations. The service was excellent and I love how they added more seating! The tent was also a great touch, it was cold the day we went but we didn't feel a thing! The food was amazing. We ended up getting a few orders of empanadas but didn't end up being quick enough for a photo of them. That & the ceviche was my favorite. The drinks were also delicious & strong. Needless to say I'll be back again!

Yelp
I've previously been here when it was El Techo for a happy hour and the ambiance is pretty much the same! It's super cute and the tents/heaters help a bunch! The view is great as long as weather allows too. The food was great here. Some items definitely better than others. I will say certain portions are very small and should be priced differently. For example the Empanadas being $14 and they are tiny. We tried quite a bit off the menu and my favorite was the Cubano sandwhich. The drinks were super tasty and yummy! Service was fine! Nothing special to note but nothing disappointing to mention.

Yelp
Hello the food was delicious , especially the fried fish . Service was fantastic and the manager made our group very welcomed and friendly. Ambiance was great, it started to get cold and they had the standup heaters and it was cozy

Yelp
Pretty good food but some disappointing service and mid vibes, particularly for a special occasion. Group of 11 came to celebrate a birthday in mid June and we tried most of the food menu. FOOD 4.5/5 Lechon Asado was the best tasting entree: great presentation of accompanying items and well flavored. It was slightly salty and a couple pieces of the five were quite fatty. The green sauce was so fresh and pickled veggies accompanied well. Solid entree to share plus get an app. 4/5 Pescado Frito Entero fish was fried well and cod tasted fresh. Not too many bones left but a few to be aware of when eating. Side salad was tiny to accompany a $46 dish for two people, honestly just one person could have had the portion. 5/5 Ceviche Caribeno was the best appetizer -- super fresh fish, bright flavors and delicious plantain chips. Highly recommend to share. 4.5/5 Fritanga sampler platter was great with most appetizers to share. Fried plantain was a favorite with a little sweetness. Chayote salad was very fresh. Could have had more something to go with the beans (plantain chips?) 3.5/5 Alitas de Pollo chicken wings - mango habanero sauce was decent though not a stand out item. 3.5/5 Cubano seemed like standard fare and seemed to taste of too much mayo and ham vs lechon. Redeemed by great accompanying plantain chips. 3/5 Yuca frita was average and not stand out either. Was pretty gummy in the middle of a fry - not sure if that's supposed to be the texture. Only get six fries for $8 so skip. EXPERIENCE Menu printed had punch bowls but we weren't allowed to order them yet (due to special cups?) and the server didn't offer any alternatives but the multiple drinks deal would have fit our group well. Server was hardly around -- cocktails took variable amount of time from 5-12 min. It felt like an awkward experience for some people to keep waiting around for drinks but wanting to cheers together. Server rarely came by for water refills or was challenging to flag down, and he left many empty plates (space taking at the table). Seemed they gave less effort knowing they would get guaranteed large group gratuity %. The two restrooms were totally atrocious with puddles around (sus) and not kept up at all. Decor is cute and there is opportunity. Hope there are operational improvements to make the guest experience more positive and memorable

Yelp
Cubita is such a vibe, colorful sunny rooftop with Cuban inspired art and decor! This place is perfect for shared plates with friends. For appetizers we got the ceviche, toston, and empanadas which were all delicious! For mains, you have to try the lechón, it has such a savory lime flavor and the meat falls apart. The entree was really stand out for us! Keep in mind pretty much everything on the menu is fried in case that's not your vibe. Service was also excellent and the waiter swapped out our plates and silverware between apps and entrees which was appreciated :)

Yelp
The Mission's hottest rooftop bar is back. Ok, ok....it's the only rooftop bar in the area but a much needed welcome back esp with hot girl summer coming up! El Techo has rebranded to Cubita (still until Back of The House) and they soft opened today with a grand opening this Friday. The OGs will remember this space as Medjool. We arrived early for our rezzies and promptly seated. The sweet hostess, Zoe was on top of it...wishing my sister a "Happy Birthday" and moving chairs around to accommodate TT. M E N U Cuban apps, sandwiches, and entrees. Full bar. El Techo had a good HH menu so I hope Cubita's HH menu is in the works. We just come from dinner so only had snacks and a nightcap. D R I N K S * Double-Nine: Vodka, triple sec, soursop puree, strawberry, lemon ($16) * El Dorado Special Reserve, 21 year aged rum w/ club soda ($23) * JM Agricole Blanc w/ club soda ($15) All were very stiff! F O O D * Empanadas de Ropa Vieja: Shredded beef, tomato, peppers, onions, olives, mojo verde ($14) Crunchy pastry shell generously filled with rich, savory shredded beef braised in a tomato-based sauce. Flavorful and well-spiced. Served with a creamy herbaceous mojo verde (green sauce). * Yuca Frita: Yuca Fries w/ mojo de ajo, lime ($8) Uniformly shaped, the yuca fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside. Served with a lightly smoky garlicky sauce. S E R V I C E Positive vibes all around. Super kind staff with the manager, Vincent making rounds introducing himself. I'm a rum noob but our server, Esme was nice enough to ask the bartenders for rum recs and came back with bottles. Fast drink and food service. A M B I A N C E Vacay, tropical vibes with sweeping views of the city. There's a photo booth near the restrooms. Partially covered dining area adorned with hanging fedora hats. Strong heat lamps. P A R K I N G Parking garage around the corner on 21st and Bartlett. Overall, Cubita is a great revamp of its former predecessor serving strong cocktails and delicious Cuban apps. Cocktails starting at $13 for a rooftop bar is a steal in this economy. Hope they stay consistent!

Yelp
Very disheartening to be a Mission District native trying to help support a new local spot and not receive the same service as visitors! Service was terrible! I had to flag down a server for drinks twice meanwhile I'm seeing all the European guests being serviced quickly and checked on constantly. I spent 2 hours here trying to enjoy drinks and food and was not checked on at all except for the one time my server was clocking out and wanted to make sure she closed out my tab. I can't speak for how the food here is because unfortunately, no one ever came back to check and ask me if I'd like to place an order.
google avatar

Yelp
Update: I notice they have a brunch menu and the items on that seem way better (reasonable price and good variety) than the mega expensive dinner options. Curious to try those. Very okay! Expensive fried food and drinks with a good view. Best view in mission for sure but the price / value doesn't hit for me at all. The menu has something for everyone but leans on fried plantain, peppers, or empanadas.

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! Everything was top tier. From the food to the service to the ambience! This is one of those planes you definitely want to keep in your regular rotation of places to go. I can't wait to go back and try more!

Yelp
The food was delicious! We ordered a cubano sandwich, a platano maduro and a yucca rellena. The sandwich came out first which we thought was strange. The Cubano sandwich was delicious toasted just right and the meat was delicious very good flavor. The platano maduro was good with black beans. The. The yucca rellena had a unique taste. The sauce was so good and the meat filling was delicious. I ordered a beverage that had sparkling coconut water and cognac which went well with the food. If you are in the area definitely stop by this place.

Yelp
Amazing views! Drinks were solid. Not too crowded on a holiday weekend. Would for sure come back during summer nights.

Yelp
Overall very tasty meal. This place use to be the old El Techo, I believe same owners still. We ordered most of the menu, service was great and ambiance was cozy. Was a windy evening, but they have enough heaters and coveting. Didn't even need to wear the jackets we brought. Food we had almost all the appetizers, everything was delicious. The ceviche was 2.5/5 for us. For main we had the fried fish and the lechon/pork. Both were great and great flavors. Dessert we had all three. Also very delicious

Yelp
Cute place! The drinks were good and the food was ok! We might have had too high of expectations for the food as this place was very hyped up! The servers we had were very nice and friendly!!

Yelp
Amazing date night at Cubita! Started with the pitcher of Mojitos, which ended up being PERFECT for two people who were looking for a fun time. Our server Costanza was the best. She provided us with ample recommendations and made sure our experience was fantastic. We will definitely be returning!!!

Yelp
Went here yesterday for an early double date with the wife and friends. We made reservations and were seated right away. I have been to El Techo many years ago but I always keep an open mind. We started with some ceviche and plantain chips, plantains with beans and cheese and a round of drinks. For dinner I opted for a Cuban sandwich to go with my Cuba Libre drink and was not disappointed. The current menu is solid, but it leans a little narrow. A few more options especially for different dietary needs or seasonal specials would make it more exciting to come back again and again. Overall we enjoyed our date night and im sure this place will get busier and busier as weather warms up and more and more people start trying Cubita out.

Yelp
I ordered the hamburgersa I didn't finish it was OK. I'm sure others enjoyed it . Grand opening service was great but we had 2 different rounds of drinks that was not for us - wrong table . Heater is nice and some view. The art work is great

Yelp
This is the best Cuban food in the Bay Area. Attention to detail and a beautiful view. Service was quick and friendly.

Yelp
Came with some friends on a Tuesday night and had a great time! Fun decor and ambiance. The murals were stunning. Food was delicious and drinks were tasty. The ceviche was a favorite. Perfectly balanced with the right amount of acidity. Loved the chayote salad. It was a fun way of using chayote and perfect on a warm day. My favorite main was the whole fried fish. Really hit the spot. Server checked in just enough without interrupting our girls night out. Can't wait to come check out brunch!

Yelp
I have a tradition that every year I have Cuban food for my birthday to pay homage to my culture! So I found this place through Yelp and saw some amazing reviews and maybe one or two not so good reviews. I decided to check it out with my friends and they did not disappoint in the slightest! I will say that the service was a bit slower pace but that is what you get with the Cuban culture. It was such a cute vibe with the fantastic colors on the walls the rooftop kitchen and you feel like you can actually have a conversation! There were a few people celebrating birthdays and what was so unique is that nobody got the same cookie cutter treatment which really speaks to the understanding of the Cuban culture. For my birthday they gave me a passion fruit ice cream (delicious) and the table next to us got a cake (looked delicious) but let's be real we had one of everything on the menu. The Lechon was done RIGHT!!!! And the empanadas were spot on! Of course I had to try the chicken skewers and it was delicious! I literally can't say anything bad about this place... for drinks they were very delicious and they had a very interesting take on an espresso martini but it was still really good! Everyone had a great time with great vibes and we walked away feeling the essence of historic Havana! My only regret was not taking more photos.
google avatar

Erik-Lucien K.

Yelp
Somehow had a reservation during soft open and was delighted by our meal and experience with the staff. Despite it being overcast, there was covered paneling to keep the wind out and some heat lamps to keep us warm. The staff were very friendly- the menus were not labeled for dietary needs but they were very polite and accommodating. The drinks were great on their own, a quality I wish more restaurants had but they also paired well with the food. The salad and ceviche were perfect- flavorful and fresh. The meat melted in our mouths. We will 100% be back. Thanks for the hard work, looking forward to coming back

Cheryl R.

Yelp
Wonderful ambiance. There is an area for dancing. They have heaters and a special covering, it was chilly out, but we were comfy. The cocktails are 10/10! Food was fresh and delicious. Staffing super friendly :)
google avatar

Yelp
Yum! It hit the spot, and then some! My faves were the empanadas and the pescado frito entero. For the hubby, it was the lechon asado. As for drinks, I went out of my comfort zone and tried the zunzun! But Hubby went old school with the Old Cuban. This restaurant is a great addition to the Mission.

Yelp
We were excited to try Cubita unfortunately, we won't be coming back. It was a beautiful evening and the ambiance was nice however, we wanted drinks and appetizers and asked the waiter about the mojito pitcher $50, he said you get 5 glasses. Since mojitos are $15 we thought that will work. Pitcher came filled to the brim with ice, totally unbalanced with only tasting lime and we got 3 lime slushes.. they played us and like another reviewer said lack of transparency. We decided to forgo the appetizers as their quality seems to not be their focal point. With all of the great bars and new rooftop bars they should step up their game, there are too many great spots in the city to throw my money away here.

Emily R.

Yelp
Started off with the pitcher of mojitos. They were good! Nothing special (gave us 1.5 drinks each for 4 people). For our main course, my partner and I shared the Lechón Asado platter which I couldn't recommend more. The pork by itself was a little plain but with the sauce was absolutely delicious. The sweet fried plantains were sweet with a little salt, giving them a perfect balance. The arroz congri was a nice side for the pork and the pickled vegetables brought everything together for a little extra flavor. There was plenty of food for the two of us and overall I really enjoyed! Regarding the atmosphere, we went on a beautiful day. I am always cold in SF so I was a little nervous about the weather, but there were heaters and plastic curtains that kept the roof at the perfect temperature. The waitstaff was nice and attentive and the fedoras hanging up as decoration were funny. I wish I had taken more pictures but this spot was perfect for a fun dinner with friends!

Yelp
What an awesome experience! From being greeted by Zoe to getting served by Jacob we were treated to attentive service, tasty cocktails & delicious food. Cubita is such a vibe & the view is incredible, we can't wait to go back.

Yelp
As big fan of El Techo, I was excited to try their new iteration. I really wanted to like it because it's one of my favorite spots in the city, and the restaurant group behind it doesn't miss. However, this was a huge miss for me and the group of friends I was with. None of us liked it and there was 8 of us. The good: empanadas were a hit, the view is fantastic, it's a cute vibe overall. The bad: the wine is awful and expensive for no reason. The food is bland and most of the menu is fried. We tried the ceviche, which was sweet and lacked flavor. The Yuca Rellena was also bland. The Lechon Asado was tender but overall made us miss the carnitas of El Techo, which had so much flavor. Drinks were too sweet, and most of their menu is rum drinks. Is you don't like rum, your options are limited. Service was not great, we kept getting ignored and we were a big group. Hopefully, they change the menu up a bit, but as it stands it's not a place I would recommend.

Edson P.

Yelp
Awesome refresher to El Techo! Food was great, service was fast, atmosphere was awesome, love the Fedora hats!

Mariven R.

Yelp
Was a big fan of El Techo and had been going for years so of course I had to try the new spot! When we were seated, we were given menus and our server gave us what she said was the HH menu. After we ordered, staff gave us another menu saying it was the HH menu. We were definitely a little frustrated because we ordered appetizers outside of the HH menu. There was no communication, no apology or anything. Overall, we felt like customer service was lacking. The drinks here are definitely on the sweeter side for me. I had a mojito that had sooooo many mint leaves in it (it was comical) and the Que Bola had this mandarin foam on top that was whimsical and sweet-- complimented the drink really well! You're kinda deceived with how much liquid is in your glass because of the huge chunk of ice lol but regardless, it was tasty. I also agree with some of the other comments saying that some of the appetizers lacked flavor, especially the fried plantain dish. The empanadas were super moist and flavorful though-- definitely recommend those. Our table did not order any of the main dishes so i can't speak on those-- the options were just too limited for us. Overall, I think this space needs more time to polish their dishes, extend their options, and better their customer service but it has a lot of potential!

Inna R.

Yelp
San Francisco has long waited for a modern rooftop bar with panoramic views--and we finally got it. This spot delivers on every front: stylish atmosphere, well-curated menu, and top-notch service led by Vincent and his exceptional team. A must-visit destination in the heart of the Mission.

Yelp
Drinks were not artisanal and tasty like El Techo. Disappointing experience with an overly citrusy pina colada.

Yelp
I love the renovation. The empanadas and the yuca rellena is to die for. I went two straight nights in a roll.

edit: business manager vincent profusely apologized for the following and was able to save our night as we stood on the curb for a bit after this all went down, thank you vincent!!! very stressful and bad experience prior but the manager did a great job resolving the issue and providing us with some compensation for it all. we will now be back and hopefully this never happens to anyone else! DONT GO HERE IF YOU DONT HAVE A HORIZONTAL ID... doesn't matter if you're 24, if you have a vertical id they won't let you in!! server turned away five of us, ranging from 21-25 but since we all have real id's that last longer they're vertical even though we are well over 21??? by law we don't have to renew for at least five years especially since we have the new ids they last extra long.... craziest stupidity def wont be back. was my first time here had seen it on tiktok but 0/10 SO LAME AND UNPROFESSIONAL, WE PLANNED OUR NIGHT STARTING W WATCHING THE SUNSET HERE FOR OUR FRIENDS BDAY.
