Cull & Pistol - Review - Chelsea - New York - The Infatuation

"I hope you NY1, Food Network, and Google employees know how good you have it. Ok, Google employees definitely know how good they have it, thanks to the endless supply of free snacks and money at their disposal. But the rest of you lucky f*ckers get to work in the Chelsea Market building, and for that we're jealous. Say what you will about the crowds, but this is as good as workday eating probably gets. We have a few favorite destinations in this great upscale food court, including The Tippler for a drink, Num Pang for a Cambodian sandwich, and One Lucky Duck for something a bit more healthy. Now we can add Cull & Pistol into the mix for anytime we've got the itch to throw back a dozen oysters and some beers in a place without windows. (We have very specific cravings). Cull & Pistol is a casual raw bar and seafood restaurant from the owners of the adjacent market, The Lobster Place. The Lobster Place is a prolific wholesaler of seafood to area restaurants, and their Chelsea Market storefront is one of the best places to buy fish in town. So there's no question as to the quality of Cull & Pistol's product. The food they make with that product is pretty good too, as long as you know what to order. The question is, why should you eat here, as opposed to the hundred other places in New York that serve oysters and a lobster roll? The short answer is location. This isn't the best lobster roll in town, but it's probably the best one in the neighborhood. They also have a $1 oyster happy hour that you should be taking advantage of if you work in or near this building. As a matter of fact, you should probably put a "very important meeting" in your calendar for 4-6pm one day this week, subject line: "Secret Meeting At Google," or "Drinks with Pat Keirnan." Whichever one will be easier to explain to your boss. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Oysters We've seen more East Coast representation than West Coast on our visits, but that just may be a function of what's fresh that day. The $1 happy hour is the best way to dive into oysters here at Cull & Pistol, but other times of day work too. We like them with a side of California IPA, which they'll usually have on hand. Uni Tagliatelle A pretty excellent bowl of pasta, with squid ink noodles, an "uni sauce" and breadcrumbs. This might be the best thing on the menu, assuming you're down with all of those flavors. Deviled Egg Trio An interesting presentation of three deviled eggs, each with some kind of fish in the mix. One has some lobster, one has some crab, and one has some smoked salmon and trout roe. They're all rich and pretty tasty, but at the end of the day we're deviled egg purists. Give us mustard and pickles or give us nothing. Shrimp Mole Tacos Our favorite thing to eat at Cull & Pistol. These tacos are slammin', thanks mostly to the grilled pineapple-jicama slaw on top and the mole sauce on the shrimps. Get some. Lobster Rolls We like both the and cold "ME" versions of lobster roll on this menu about the same. The lobster salad is excellent, and in both cases, it's dressed perfectly. But there's a problem here, and it relates to the "toasted top-split bun." The damn thing is way too thin, and falls apart the second you try and pick it up. The next thing you know, you're eating lobster with your fork, and that's an entirely different experience. If I'm eating lobster with a fork, I want an awesome lobster bib and that's non-negotiable. So Cull & Pistol either needs to fix this bun or start handing out plastic neck wear immediately. New Bay Fries No idea what "New Bay" means, but we suspect it's an attempt to dodge a cease and desist from the Old Bay people. Either way, these fries are really good." - Chris Stang

15 Top Spots for Raw Bar in NYC | Eater NY

"This Chelsea spot is the restaurant offshoot of fishmonger the Lobster Place in Chelsea Market, which equates to extremely fresh shellfish including clams, oysters, scallops, crab claws, and shrimp. The space is snug and modern, with the raw bar selection prominently displayed on ice, and lots of two-tops and barstool seating." - Alexandra Ilyashov

An authentic restaurant with delicious food and lovely staff. Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection. One of my favorite spots in Manhattan! Catch of the day is always an amazing choice. Some of the best oysters in the city, crab, scallops, mussels… the works! ♥️♥️♥️

Cull & Pistol 🦀🦞🦑 - Got the Grilled Spanish Octopus (was too chargrilled for me but still good) - Got the Lobster Roll with old bay fries (was not that impressed) - The New England Clam Chowder (which was really yummy) - For dessert got the key lime pie 🍋‍🟩

Really great food - take advantage of the 4-9pm happy hour oysters ($22 for a dozen). We also ordered tuna on crispy rice, king crab legs, shrimp cocktail and a lobster roll. All the food arrived at the same time which was handy for sharing. The 4oz lobster roll with fries is a little pricey at $38. Service is fantastic - attentive and friendly.

If you’re looking for top-notch seafood in NYC, Cull & Pistol is an absolute must-visit. Located in Chelsea Market, this place delivers an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The seafood is exceptionally fresh, with a menu that showcases the best of what the ocean has to offer. Their oysters are some of the best I’ve had—perfectly shucked, briny, and delicious. The lobster roll is phenomenal, packed with tender, buttery lobster meat, and the grilled octopus is cooked to perfection. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is fantastic—bustling but not overwhelming, with a stylish yet welcoming vibe. The service is attentive and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend the best pairings or daily specials. Whether you’re a seafood aficionado or just looking for an amazing meal in NYC, Cull & Pistol delivers on all fronts. Highly recommend!

We always get the lobster poutine when we visit and it never disappoints. We love it with extra cheese curds and gravy and it makes for an excellent indulgence. We also ordered the scallops and asked for it just be pan seared and it was perfectly cooked and well seasoned.

The oysters were great! You have a good varity and it is awesome that they had the happy hours deal when I was there. Just sit around the bar, you will meet and talk to people. Great crowd! 5/5 without any doubt!

Google
Such a delicious oyster experience. Very interesting menu, and the restaurant was very cool and makes you feel invited to eat more and more. We had a fantastic time and their cocktails were divine too. Very creative menu and the restaurant is perfect for seafood lovers! Highly recommend to everyone that enjoys seafood!

Google
Excellent. Went in for happy hour tried two of each oyster for $44. My favorite was the Hammermill (or something i forgot but it started with an H, very last one on the list). The fish tacos were incredible, 2 to an order for $10z happy the corn tortilla was soft but wish they doubled up. Drinks were great , got paloma (incredible) and margarita for $10 each. very happy with everything! great value!

Yelp
Good food but very loud! And super busy so come during off peak hours. They have a great happy hour too (Mon-Fri 4-6pm, 1/2 price oysters) but be warned, it's quite popular so you need to arrive early. Located inside Chelsea market. The oyster selection here is great and the quality is a step above most places. They have a lot more east coast options than west coast (there was only one west coast option the night we went). The raw clams were also fabulous (but a little too iced/cold for my personal liking). I wish they gave you horseradish - they just gave a thicker type cocktail sauce I don't love and a vinegar that I very much enjoyed. The warm lobster roll is fantastic - the bread was done perfectly and the ratio of lobster to bread was on point. Fries were thin and perfectly crispy - just how I love them. The crab cavatelli was also good. The only thing I didn't love was the hibiscus margarita. The tequila tasted off. Over all, highly recommend esp if you're in Chelsea market during off peak hours and can get a table!

Yelp
We came to Chelsea Market on a rainy Saturday to get a quick lunch. We sat at the bar due to the limited seating but enjoyed it and the bartender was very attentive. We started with raw oysters. I preferred the Massachusetts oysters because I could taste the saltiness of the sea on them. Next up, we had the grilled shrimp and seppia skewer. It's one skewer and it's pretty good. It was flavorful and succulent. The squid ink was just for color and the aioli was great. The tuna crispy rice could've been the only thing we had and I would've been satisfied. It was delicious. The sauces the tuna was tossed in was delicious and the tuna was so fresh. Finally, we ate the hot lobster roll. We couldn't have asked for better. It was perfect and so tasty. The warm butter with the toasted and light bread. Omg so good. I loved it.

Yelp
Great spot in Chelsea Market for fresh seafood! Though the server said that the portions were tapa-sized, I actually thought that some of the portions were bigger. For two people, 2-3 plates is sufficient. We ordered: -half dozen oysters- pricey; $3.75pc -tuna crispy rice (3pc; we asked for 1 more) -oysters and chickpea skillet -steamed mussels marinière The oysters were delicious and the server was very attentive to bringing us everything we needed. The tuna crispy rice was bigger than expected, and my favorite dish was the steamed mussels marinière. It was so flavorful! I loved taking the grilled semolina raisin bread and dipping it in the sauce. *If you're looking to eat oysters, I'd recommend coming for happy hour where you get a better deal.

Yelp
Cull & Pistol is a great spot for oyster enthusiasts. I was able to try 12 different oysters of the day from the east coast, and they were plated so that it was easy to follow the list and understand what I was tasting. I was able to figure out my oyster taste preferences from my experience here. I'd recommend going during happy hour to get discounted raw oysters! Service was quick and vibes were great.

Yelp
I came across this spot after missing the Yelp Elite Event opportunity at Tea and Milk inside Chelsea Market because I arrived late. I walked in because I was intrigued by the oyster happy hour this place was offering. There was only 1 seat left in the bar and the host immediately sat me there. The ambiance was casual and popping at the same time. Service was surprising quick given how busy and packed the place was. Since oyster hour was 50% off, I took advantage of ordering the sampler which was 1oyster from each region (there were 12). I also ordered the grilled shrimp and sepia skewers with a side of Old Bay Seasoning fries. The skewers and fries were fresh and worth trying. I washed my meal down with water and the Green Bee Ginger Buzz Honey Soda which was refreshing. If you like oysters this is a great happy hour spot to check out.

Yelp
Happy Hour and TWELVE options for oysters? Sign me up! I discovered Cull & Pistol whilst strolling Chelsea Market with a friend. With such a selection, what better time to try it than now? Note that there is a platter with a dozen or two of each, but it's barely a discount - don't bother with the math! But at nearly $2 each, it's a good price point. For the novice oyster enjoyer, I highly recommend following along the descriptions while trying the oysters. Salinity? Finish? Creamy? Buttery? These words may be meaningless to someone who has not tried or characterized oysters enough, but following along could be an educational experience. From top to bottom, I finally understood how the descriptions matched the taste for both salinity and finish - each description nailed the mark! As for the vibes and environment, this is as close as you can get to a "seafood market" experience while being underground. If you have the opportunity to sit at the bar, you can see each oyster submerged in ice, though the shell may not be too helpful in decision making. During Happy Hour, the staff are friendly and attentive, even refilling water when the water jugs are on the bar / table. A+!

Yelp
This place is always jammed. Especially during happy hour. Post-COVID was only one dollar per oyster at happy hour, now is half price. I think it's still worth the money because I know that the shellfish is fresh. Came here with three other friends. The servers are friendly, and the food comes fast. Is a very tight space so you are sitting elbow to elbow. Don't forget to order the southern okra. goes nicely with the shellfish.

Yelp
Great spot in Chelsea Market with friendly staff and quick service. Their happy hour deals are great, the martini mondays are awesome. They have a great sampler of all their oysters for $22 during HH. Some of the freshest oysters I've had in the city.

Yelp
We only stopped in for the oyster happy hour, where every oyster was a little under $2. There was a huge variety of oysters to choose from. We also opted to try the raw clams. We enjoyed every oyster, and the clams were an interesting new experience! The service was great, and the restaurant was pretty packed. Seemed to be a pretty popular date spot.

Yelp
Yummm! The fried oyster wrapped in jamon was my favorite? So good! Service was very nice and they definitely took time to explain the menu and make recommendations. Oysters were good too!

Yelp
Cannot believe it's already almost been a year since I last dined here?! Was super busy around 6:45 during a recent Sunday dinner. I imagine it generally gets busy around then anyway, especially since the space is on the smaller side. Menu does change seasonally which I love but it didn't speak to me like it did like last time! They need a new margarita option, and less lobster options. The margarita just needed some oomph. Our shrimp cocktail and caviar-on-5-oysters didn't come out and were removed once we mentioned it. Service was great overall: plate delivery was spaced out well and cleared right away for courses, glasses always full, very easygoing and quick staff even though it got hectic. We got 25 oysters; all East Coast except for 5 Indigos. I didn't like the way they served the uni, and it didn't come with its own utensil. + 4 oyster shooters (didn't realize they came with bacon, that was my fault). Also ordered the Siberian Sturgeon caviar again which is so damn good. Particularly loved the Olde Salt and Little Ram oysters but their selection of East Coast ones was better curated last time!
google avatar

Yelp
The happy hour half-off oysters YES! Please. Sat at the counter to partake in the half-hour with no reservations. I started with the sampler (1 dozen ), which was very fresh and tasty. The baked clams were delicious, a good and hearty classic New England clam chowder, and the lobster roll was perfect with some good old seasoned old bay seasoning. Wanted to try the freshly rolled cavatelli with shrimp and bites of andouille sausage were like a spoonful of comfort. The place wasn't tight enough space to move around and the service was wonderful. Would recommend it if you're in the mood for some seafood!

Yelp
We always love this place! Though Chelsea Market was crazy crowded, this place was able to seat us right away with superb service and food. Began with some local IPAs which were good but again not quite cold enough which has been our experience while in NYC for some reason! Then had a dozen local oysters - they are honestly some of the best we have had anywhere! So fresh, perfectly shucked and delicious!! Then enjoyed some grilled oysters and some tail on shrimp! Both so, so good!! This place is always worth visit and again the Oysters are always phenomenal!

Yelp
Wow! This place was sooooo good and definitely deserving of 5 stars. Our server was very attentive, and the food was on point! We were in the Hudson Yards area and I had this place bookmarked to try out their oyster happy hour. We were lucky that they had a couple open bar seats near the entrance. This place has several oyster varieties to choose from, and they are all included in the 50% happy hour, which is one reason I selected this place vs other places that only serve certain oysters at their HH price or just a more limited selection. We ended up ordering 2 dozen oysters and drinks on HH, along with non HH selections like the lobster roll, baby gem lettuce salad with beets, baked oysters. EVERYTHING was GOOD. To start, the oysters were very fresh and absolutely delicious. We started with 2 each of 6 different selections for our first dozen, and then our 2nd dozen ordered were half and half of our fave 2. The baby gem lettuce salad was perfection. I actually saw the customer next to me with this order and I had to get it because it looked so good (and he confirmed it was good in my brief convo with him). The salty toasted hazelnuts were a perfect complement to the sweetness of the beets and ricotta. This dish actually turned me onto beets! No complaints about the lobster roll or baked oysters (though I prefer the fresh if I were to pick one over the other). Our discounted HH turned into quite a full meal that was $200+ before tip, but it was worth it and it was a great ending to our trip (last dinner of our trip). It's probably good that I don't live anywhere nearby (from San Diego, CA), as it would be trouble for me! Thanks for helping us to end our trip on a high note.

Yelp
Revisiting the places of my past. I have basically only come here for the oyster happy hour. It used to be $1 per oyster for happy hour. Fast forward to post-covid, things are different now. Happy hour is only 4-6 pm and now it is half price oysters. Still it is a good deal, but not as great as yesteryear. Come on a Monday night and you will be lucky enough to grab a seat (it is only at the bar). Other nights, it will be difficult to get one unless you get there at 3:30 pm. The oysters are delectable. Always no shell after shucking. And I have never gotten sick post eating adventure. I would say, just get the whole list for the day, keep a log of which ones you liked and then order more of those. Everyone is really friendly, they also have a "no jerk" policy, which helps!
google avatar

Yelp
I did a walk in for Cull and pistol on a Friday night for dinner and it was packed! They have happy hour til 9pm which is a unicorn sometimes in New York City. Oysters and half off (regular price $3.75 so $1.88) and they have select discounts on drinks such as a mango mojito for $10. Despite being busy we put our name down and within 15 minutes we were seated at the bar. It was also restaurant week and they have a prefix 3 course menu for $45. My friend and I ordered half a dozen oysters (very briny if that's your thing) old bay fries (super crispy and seasoned to perfection) as well as a round of mango mojitos which were tart and sweet. We ordered a restaurant week menu and started off with clam chowder (very hearty and rich, the octopus which was tender and perfectly cooked and not pictured they key lime pie which was prepared in its individual pie tart vs a slice. The waitress at the bar was so friendly and knowledgeable and elevated the experience with her fast service. It's definitely a tight spot but that's to expected when you're located in Chelsea market. Overall it was a great meal and I would come back again!

Yelp
I really wish to give the place a 5....for food we had the pan seared scallops & lobster roll for dinner service. The scallops were overcooked, the garnish was so salty has to ask for pepper to kill the saltiness. The lobster roll; the bread was soaked in butter they skimped on the lobster for the price they have listed $55. The plate had more fries than lobster. The drinks The spicy tropical mezcalita was soaked spicy couldn't finish it and don't get me wrong I can spice. That was too much in a drink. Service was decent Atmosphere was very tight. The place was jammed, everyone was close together. If you like your arm space this isn't the place for you.

Yelp
Very cute, nice place to eat if you're a fan of seafood. Overall I thought everything was okay. It's pretty good but not amazing. The oysters I had were very good but a little over priced for what it is. I generally prefer regular red cocktail sauce and that wasn't available but the vinaigrette was pretty good and a cute touch. I ordered a big bowl of mussels and it was pretty good too. Everything was normal and what you would expect. I appreciate them giving me sliced bread and decided to just dip it in the mussel soup/sauce mixture. The service was excellent and everyone was so nice and attentive. It is definitely worth visiting if you're a tourist and are in the area

Yelp
A cozy spot for fresh seafood tucked into Chelsea Market -- it's a stone's throw from the water and they have a great happy hour with half-off oysters. The walk-in spots for HH fill up super fast, so highly recommend getting there at 3:50PM on the dot to secure a spot. The staff are really friendly, good at making recommendations and super efficient -- the shuckers were speedy! We tried a bunch of different oysters and really liked the milder ones. I love that the little mignonette came with a dropper to make it easy to use. The Miso Grilled Oyster was SO. GOOD. and unique. I'll be back soon!
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
We visited in a month that does not have an R in it, and settled on the Oyster Bar all the same. Part of the reason was dedicated seating at regular tables. We were not disappointed; the oysters were quite tasty and the only thing that made the clam chowder less than perfect was its temperature - another 10 or 20 degrees would have been the call. Still, a very good chowder, with the right balance of clams and potatoes, a broth with just the right level of thickness and creaminess, and seasoning just right. The chowder would stand tall in the finest seafood restaurants. While our bill was hefty for lunch, we left happy and would return when again in the area.

Yelp
I want my last meal to be bites of my favorite foods. And two of those are from cull and pistol. This oyster bar is nestled in the middle of Chelsea market. It's not as large as its neighbors but large enough for a few larger groups. Okay now onto the bites in my last meal. Diver scallops and linguine and clams. The scallops are sweet, taste super fresh, and dressed with yuzu. More on the pricy side but so worth The linguine and clams are also perfect. The white wine sauce is packed with so much flavor, I wish i had bread to soak up all the sauce at the end. Pasta is perfectly al dente and the clams are sweet. Perfect cherry on top is the attentive and welcoming service

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and fresh oysters served daily. Service was nice and efficient. Love the ambiance!

Yelp
One of the best lobster rolls I've had lately!! Super yummy, good portion of lobster with nice warm butter and mayo. Came with nice crunchy fries too. Service was great, nice small place but music/atmosphere was a little loud for my liking. Average high nyc prices.

Yelp
Our family was here for the wedding of my granddaughter. Many of us managed to gather here for seafood - primarily oysters. It was a good choice. This was Fleet Week and Chelsea was very crowded. However, we were seated immediately! Our waitress was attentive and answered all of our questions about the kinds of oysters and clams available. We had 2 rounds of raw oyster varieties and also two kinds of raw clams. A real unexpected highlight of the meal was the salad that we ordered. It was so DELICIOUS - from the freshness of the greens to the unexpected flavor of roasted carrot bound together with a properly emulsified vinaigrette. We ordered a large salad and several of us shared it and we kept coming back to it because it was so good and a really great accompaniment to the shellfish. We were carefully attended to by our waitress and everyone expressed their happiness with everything that we ordered. Next time I'm in New York, I shall make it a point to come here again for the variety and quality of the shellfish offerings.

Yelp
So good! My daughter's first experience sharing oysters with me. Great service helping me make selections. And you gotta get the lobster roll.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
We came here after work and everything was very tasty! It is a bit pricey but to be expected since it is Chelsea Market after all. We got seated right away on a wednesday but the place was definitely crowded. I recommend getting the oyster platter so you can try everything. The grilled oysters, mackerel board and fries were very good too.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
My wife took me here for a birthday dinner here and it's a great spot for seafood which also has a raw bar. We sampled all 12 kinds of oysters, the majority of them East coast, and they were all great. The king crab legs and caviar were the standout appetizers but there wasn't anything we had that was bad. For main course, I went with the octopus and it was perfectly cooked and prepared, not chewy at all. This was the second time we came here but it had been a few years since the first visit. I remembered liking it, so it was nice to have that re-affirmed with this recent trip.
google avatar

christopher b.

Yelp
Stopped by for some quick oysters that did not disappoint, very salty east coast and had a lot of meat. Servers was very nice and they were able to shuck and prep the oysters quickly with ease. The inside is bright and vibrant and gives the feeling of being in a restaurant on the pier.
google avatar

Izel V.

Yelp
Food- I was here strictly for the oysters today and was very happy with the selection. There was 12 oysters for me to choose from and I ended up trying 5 different ones. Personally my favorite were the ones with medium salinity and fresh finishes. Presentation and oyster quality is excellent. 5/5 Drink- I had the green ginger honey buzz non alcoholic drink. It was very good and sat well with the oysters. Masterful pairing for drink & menu 5/5 Service- I sat at the bar and was served by a very attentive waitress/barista. She was very helpful with recommendations and checked in on me multiple times. 5/5 I will definitely be back to try more on the menu. Thank you Cull & Pistol.

Yelp
Cull & Pistol Oyster Bar is a hidden gem in Chelsea Market with a cozy environment. We were so lucky that a couple never showed up for their reservation and we were able to take their seats at the bar right in time for happy hour! The staff are so friendly and the service is fast. The seafood is extremely fresh and my mouth waters thinking back on how delicious this uni (sea urchin) was. This place is a MUST when visiting Chelsea Market!
google avatar

Yelp
If you are in the Chelsea Market area this is the best oyster happy hour around. To start the place is super cute and while small has a great ambiance and excellent service. They offer a wide variety of oysters all at half price during happy hour and we paired those with a nice white wine that was at happy hour rates as well. We had oysters from Canada and all mostly the east coast and a couple west coast oysters in our sampler. Their French fries and bread are an amazing side for those yummy and fresh oysters. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
This was a cool, fun atmosphere, with great food and drinks. I would definitely return on my next trip to NYC.

Yelp
We took our two grandchildren for their first visit! It was INCREDIBLE, the food and the service and the atmosphere! We enjoyed every bite!! Our waitress super!!

Yelp
Delicious oysters at a GREAT price! The cuttyhunk was our favorite! And the miso scallion were also delicious. Staff was amazing. Super cute vibe inside of the Chelsea market
google avatar

Yelp
Lobster Place + CP Oysters are same owners. They do a daily 4-6 oyster happy hour where all oysters are 50% off. Roughly $2 a pop, this is great for sampling a good variety of mostly east coast oysters and 1 or 2 west coast options. Paired with wine or cocktail happy hour option its a great way to work up an appetite. I like to sit at the bar and watch them shuck tray after tray of bivalves. Was pleasantly surprised with cherry stone clams that were sweet and meaty, rounding off the brinier oyster options. During restaurant week, they are doing a $45 menu that is a great mix of seafood and dessert as well.

Yelp
I finally made it back to Cull & Pistol for the first time since the start of the pandemic, and I'm so happy that this place is continuing to do well and is still providing such a great dining experience. I went for dinner on Friday with my husband and brother and managed to get a few seats at the bar since we didn't have a reservation (and it was restaurant week). We were greeted immediately by both the hostess and the bartender, and every other server we encountered was also very friendly and attentive. I ordered a clam chowder and the 1 1/2 lb lobster, steamed (they don't have a steamed version on the menu, only grilled, but insisted it was no problem). My husband ordered raw oysters and the Spanish octopus, and my brother ordered chowder and the lobster roll. Everything was delicious. Having spent much of my life in the Boston area, I've generally been disappointed with whole steamed lobster and NE clam chowder I have experienced during my 25 years in NYC, but Cull & Pistol (and The Lobster Place market next door) have truly perfected both. The consistency, flavor, texture....everything is on point. The ambiance at C&P is great as well and is a lot more relaxed than the madness of the rest of Chelsea Market. Definite gem.

Yelp
Service was FANTASTIC. We have a 9-month old and they found us a nice seat with a high chair. Everyone was super nice and very professional and attentive. The food was hella good. Highly recommend the clam chowder and the lobster a la vodka (a bit saucy but very very good flavor and they do NOT skimp on the lobster). I got the scallops and they were cooked to perfection. Also the cider was amazing. I had a stomach ache and this really helped and tasted delicious!!!

Yelp
This restaurant is located inside Chelsea Market. It's got a lovely vibe with dark ambient lighting. Small but with plenty of seats at the oyster bar as well as a decent number of tables. The tables are rather low and gives one the sense of leaning over constantly while dining. Service was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the oysters they had and what is and isn't common. When you sit you'll be provided with a paper menu which you keep and which acts like a placemat throughout your dining experience. The oyster menu is brought to you by the server who will provide you with a pencil for marking off choices. When they bring the plate of oysters out to you it will come in a circle with a lemon placed as a starting point. Oysters are placed clockwise from the lemon in order of your choices on the menu you marked from top to bottom. They also provide a house made sauce that comes in a dropper vial (use this sparingly, the flavor is very strong). And you can request some horse radish. $3.75 per oyster you can mix and match. You could even order just one oyster if you so chose. Clam chowder. Large pieces of fresh clam. A bit on the oily side for my liking. Oyster crackers in a small prepackaged bag. $10 for a small, $14 for a large. Clam Linguine. Excellent clams - fresh. The sauce is very salty and the taste doesn't hold much other than oil, garlic and lemon. Small serving. Likely won't fill you up which is strange for pasta. $29

Yelp
WOW! Cull & Pistol is my absolute favorite place to get oysters. I've been there twice for the Happy Hour menu (M- F: 4:00- 6:00pm) for half price oysters. We ordered double down (24 total oysters, 2 of each kind) to get a feel for which oysters we liked and then ordered individual oysters. In itself, its a lot of fun to go with your partner or friend and just try a wide variety of oysters (salty, creamy, mineral, etc.). Love this place and will be forever coming back. The restaurant itself also has a very cozy, intimate vibe. Service is A++ TIP: We tried to show up early to make sure we got a seat for 4:00 but they do not honor the happy hour prices even if you get seated. Wait until the start of happy hour to be seated.

Yelp
I love coming here every time I'm in town. Cozy ambiance and great service. Make sure to get in early for the happy hours. All oysters are fresh and tasty.

Yelp
Oh my goodness this place was packed, but we made it for the tail-end of happy hour! We got there around 5 and were told the wait would be an hour, but we got there right around 6, when happy hour ends, and got the first round with the discount. Yay! We were seated at the high long table along the window at the entrance, but it was fine since it was 3 of us. We got the house white and ordered a platter of oysters & scallops. What a TREAT! I can count the times I have had oysters like this... but I've only ever had seared scallops, so this was new! I had a blast comparing the East Coast and West Coast oysters, and experimenting with different sauces -- hot sauce, horseradish, etc. Inexperienced as I am, it took a while for me to find the right balance, but I got it eventually! Our server was attentive despite the crowd and we had a great time. What a fun place to have inside Chelsea Market!

Yelp
A nice casual spot with friendly service that is still a decent option despite missing the mark with the oysters. There is an extensive selection of oysters though almost all are east coast. I found them to be underwhelming for 3.75 a piece. They just did not have the substance and standards I expected. The shucking also needs work as a few of the oysters had bits of shell in the bite. The happy hour price is a better fit for this quality. The uni in the half shell was a nice surprise off the menu item. It was incredibly fresh and had good texture but I'm not a huge fan of the musky aftertaste this California uni had. The fries were as good as fries get with good crunch, seasoning, and temperature.

Yelp
There's little that brings me more joy that a dozen fresh oysters and the East Coast selection was by far some of the best I've had in NYC. I loved the variety of flavors. I paired my oysters will clam chowder and shishito peppers for a delightful afternoon treat. Easy breezy, briney and divine!

Yelp
I almost don't want to write this review so I can keep them to myself! Cull & Pistol is easily my favorite oyster happy hour in the city. Getting in here can require a bit of luck. Located inside Chelsea Market, they don't take any reservations for happy hour service. It's a first come, first served operation, so arriving early is a must. You'll also need your full party in order to be seated. If there are no seats available, they'll put you on a wait-list and send a text when your spot is ready. From there you have 5 minutes to appear. The oysters here are very fresh and they serve a variety of East Coast with at least one West Coast available at all times. The selection seems to rotate every time I go, so I've taken to keeping a list of oysters that I liked the most to know what to order again. The HH special is that the oysters are half price, and even though that's more than other $1 places you can find, it's the quality here that's unmatched. I also love the diver scallops. They aren't included on HH, but they're worth the $15. It's like a dessert, but from the ocean. The mignonette here is also the best I've ever tasted. The staff here is always welcoming and friendly. If you need recommendations or just feel chatty, they've got you covered. I think Chelsea Market can be thought of as a bit of a touristy location, but Cull & Pistol is truly a gem and worth a visit, despite the crowds.

Yelp
Food was five stars, let's get that straight. If it wasn't for the unpleasant bartender, we'd happily give this place the full five stars. I understand restaurant work is hard and often thankless. I understand people have bad days. This woman pretty much ignored us the whole time. We had to wave to her several times to get her attention. No, the place wasn't crowded. There were all of four people at the bar, including us. Only two tables were seated. She chatted up the other waitstaff with her back to us. The other servers were wonderful by the way. We ordered fries after our mains because we were still hungry. And we waited and waited. The other staff came over and cleared our plates and asked us if we wanted anything else. We figured she forgot the fries so we asked for the check. We didn't even care at that point. We get the check and it has the fries on it so we ask her to remove them since we didn't get them. She gets mad at us and says they're coming! I said we have to go but what I was thinking was, how do you expect us to eat them with no silverware, plates or napkins. She goes to the back to whatever and the damn fries show up. My bf says I guess leave the fries on the bill then. We were already leaving and she snipes at us that they took them off the bill. This whole interaction was so beyond dumb. The food was really tasty and well seasoned: clam chowder, fresh oysters, octopus, broccolini. But now I'd hesitate to return because she was so unpleasant. Maybe we'll try again and sit at a table.

Yelp
Came here for the oyster happy hour with Dad and we were not disappointed. Didn't realize it was in Chelsea Market so I was a little surprised once we arrived. We didn't have a reservation but luckily were able to snag two seats at the bar. We had the Strawberry Rum Punch which I can't say really tasted like rum punch, and a tamarind margarita which was fantastic! The oysters are half-priced at happy hour so we couldn't resist doing the double down which is 2 dozen oysters (2 of each of the 12 offerings, a mix of East and West Coast) for only $44. It was nice to also get a description of the varying flavors of each oyster. We asked for a little horseradish and immediately started throwing the oysters back. Loved the variety and it was exciting to try some with cucumber and melon finishes. They change daily so keep that in mind! We were mid food tour so we didn't try anything else but the grilled Spanish octopus looked great. Though these oysters weren't the cheapest, they were fresh and delicious so we'll definitely be back! Rating: 4/5 stars!

Yelp
Located in the Chelsea Market, Cull and Pistol offered up a great selection of east and west coast oysters and wonderful service. I enjoyed sitting at the oyster bar while on my own one afternoon!

Yelp
Wowsers! Always love coming here. It's a treat. Service is great- We were seated at the bar. I am short and dislike bar stools. Asked for a change (it was very crowded, had waited for 20 to get our seats). The hostess was accommodating and offered us the next table to come available! Food is tasty and fresh! Oysters are a personal taste and our group had fun rating them. We got four different types from all over the east coast. We come to NYC from DC often and since finding Cull and Pistol have come each time. This trip was four days. We ate a lot, plus I am a chef who loves to explore. The scallop we had was hands down the best food we had the whole trip. Expect to wait for a seat. It is worth it. Just walk around the market area. The hostess will text you when your seats become available. A must stop on everyone's list.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I randomly decided to pop in to try some of their fresh raw oysters. We got seated immediately at the bar. The bartender who was mixing drinks in front of us was super friendly and got us all set up + helped answer any questions we had about the menu. We ordered 6 of their sweeter oysters and they were all delicious! Their vinaigrette was amazing and pairs so well with the oysters. I almost wanted to go back the very next day for more. I highly recommend this place for their oysters and I'll definitely be back.
