The Best Ice Cream In Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Cupcake Royale makes some of the best cupcakes in the city. So logically, when you crumble said cupcakes into custard mix and freeze it, you’re going to get some of the city’s best ice cream, too—like buttermilk blended with red velvet cake, and a salted caramel ice cream that’s heavy on the salt (in a good way) but also on the dark chocolate cake. Bonus points if you get the aforementioned ice cream scooped on top of an actual cupcake, which is a thing you can truly do here." - Aimee Rizzo

I really enjoyed my cupcake—I ate the Lesbian! The selection was amazing as well, they all look so good. While I did enjoy it, the cake was little dry and needed perhaps more butter or milk in the batter which made it kind of dry. Also needs a little more sugar in the cake. The icing is amazing though, it’s not super sweet but actually perfect. But they are all beautifully themed and decorated! Great place!

Google
To summarize, cupcakes were mid. I will say that our experience with the staff was pleasant. Seems that this is a big hit or miss for others. We went for the cinnamon roll cupcake and the birthday cake. The cinnamon roll cupcake was not very good. I’m a big fan of cinnamon rolls, so it’s likely I hold it to a higher standard but the consistency of the frosting threw me a bit. It tasted liked someone chewed up Oreos and spit them out. The birthday cake one wasn’t half bad. It had just the right amount of frosting. I think both cakes could’ve been a little more moist. Granted, better than your typical grocery store cupcake by far, but for a bakery, I hoped for more. I probably wouldn’t recommend to my out of town friends.

Google
We had two cupcakes and one affogato at this place. We did enjoy them but I think it’s a little pricey for what they were. The staff were nice enough and we had no issues with them. But their cupcakes were very good and not overwhelmingly sweet. I would recommend giving them a try.

Google
10 am is never too early for a treat! Treat yo self don’t cheat yo self to this chocolate banana cupcake. This beauty consists of a chocolate chip banana cake with a creamy icing topped with a chocolate shell and banana chip. I’d do it again.

Google
Pretty delicious cupcakes if you ask me! The chocolate ones are very rich and dense. Difficult to eat alone so bring a friend. We tried the Royale with Cream Cheese Icing and Salted Caramel. Both are very tasty.

Guillermo Pimentel

Google
Really great tasting cupcakes. The texture, flavors, and topping is really flavorful. I would suggest the salted caramel and the red velvet.

Google
Almost $18.00 for these two deserts a bit pricy but very delicious. Staff is friendly and helpful. Deserts are very good and size is perfect. Come enjoy some amazing deserts here If you are in the area wont be disappointed.

Google
Great location, it's busy... But always worth it! There's public bathrooms that are CLEAN! Within walking distance to the link light rail, pikes market and monorail to the needle! Love this place!

Yelp
I don't know why this place has a 3/5 on Yelp; this place had some good cupcakes choices. I swear, one bad batch and ppl rate badly on a place. This small cute, cafe type look with some other options than cupcakes. Over all, I liked it, they were nice and helped me selected my option without rushing me, they did tell me if I really didn't like it, I could try another. But I liked my first choice and if I'm ever in town again, I plan to grab another cupcake to go.

Yelp
We got a Halloween collection for our Halloween party - and they're the cutest! The cupcakes both look and taste good, and we particularly love the cookie & cream one. It's not too sweet which we love, but we wish the topping cream is slightly fluffier. Overall we definitely love this place, and the staff were lovely getting our order sorted!

Yelp
My first time coming here with my daughter and her first time being in Seattle. Definitely an experience and this place is just soo cute... another sweet tooth hidden gem right by the public market. The ice cream i had was truffle chocolate ice cream and my daughter had the red velvet.. they both were delicious. Can't wait to come back for more treaty desserts.
google avatar

Yelp
The cupcakes were very tasty! I got a red velvet for my partner which he liked. I had a The Gay and Dance Party and both were very tasty as well. It's a small little spot and also has ice cream too. The server was polite and helpful.

Yelp
We passed by this place and thought it sounded good, so we checked the Yelp page and decided to go in based on the great reviews. The cupcakes were pretty good, but the selection was small. Many of them were just slight variations of the same thing (vanilla with vanilla frosting, vanilla with chocolate frosting, chocolate with vanilla frosting, chocolate with chocolate frosting, etc). There were very few actually different or creative options which you would expect from a place that specializes in cupcakes. The main reason for the mediocre review is the service. The employee behind the counter seemed like she didn't want to be there and didn't want us there. We walked in and we're looking at the options in the display case, and she just kind of stared at us, didn't offer to help, and kind of rushed us even though we were standing there for less than a minute.

Yelp
This is my first cupcake royale and my friends were satisfied with their birthday cakes. Unfortunately I can't vouch for the taste yet, but I like their options and they definitely looked moist and fresh. It was very quiet in the morning when I went, but I'm sure it gets busy in the afternoon being down the street from Pike Place Market.

Yelp
If you're looking for gourmet cupcakes, this is the spot! They are absolutely delightful and not too sweet and the perfect texture, not to mention aesthetically pleasing! The staff is super friendly!

Yelp
For whatever reason cupcakes in the city are pretty expensive, but Cupcake Royale is one of my favorites when the mood hits. I'm a fan of how simple their cupcakes are, and not over the top with frosting or additional toppings. If you can't make it in, they are available on many of the food delivery platforms, which came in clutch for a last minute celebration at work. Cupcakes arrived on time, fresh and not oily, and the perfect handheld size. The Classic and the Red Velvet were the favorites for our group, but you really can't go wrong with the choices Cupcake Royale offers. I do wish they'd offer more variety on the delivery platforms, as it seems they haven't changed the options in several years.

Yelp
This place was really fun! And it is in a really great location downtown. It wasn't very busy when we went, so no line. The worker was very friendly and helpful with our questions. We got four to go - salted caramel, red velvet, cinnamon roll, and cookies & cream. They were all so tasty! If I had to pick one to get, I would get the cinnamon roll. And if I had to pick one to avoid, I would pick the salted caramel. It had an odd taste. I also thought the price was reasonable - a 4 pack for $16 We would come back here if we are in the area!

Yelp
Okay, had never been and had heard good things. First of all, the individuals who were there were very friebdly. However, there is not a lot of seating and the seating outside was dirty and covered in crumbs and melted ice cream. The cupcake... it was okay. The icing was delicious but the cake was just meh. It was pretty dry and wasn't overly amazing. I wouldn't go out of my way for a cupcake from here.

Yelp
How I heard of this place: Cupcakes. Who hasn't heard of this place? Possibly the first cupcake shop in Seattle before the cupcake made a comeback. Type of cuisine: Cupcakes and coffee. Tea is also available. Ice cream and other small treats have since graced their counters. Ambiance: Cafe-style. Dark wooden furniture, a barquette at the window with seating, displays of cups and t-shirts for sale, friendly baristas and colorful cupcakes behind the counter. Very casual and open to long-term seating with laptop or paper at close range. What I ordered: This time, the Royale with Cheese - a chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, and the Dance Party - vanilla cake with pink buttercream frosting and rainbow sprinkles. What I loved: The moist density of the light cake and the flavorful, sweet cream toppings. Why I loved it: You always know what to expect - sweetness to perk you up in the mid- to late-afternoon. Cost: Average for today's trendy cupcake frenzy ($3.25 per cupcake)

Yelp
Came in as soon as Cupcake Royale opened at 10am, and was happily surprised to see that all the cupcake flavors were available! We ordered Red Velvet, Worms N' Dirt, Cinnamon Roll, and Royale w/ Cheese. The Red Velvet was my favorite because it was not too sweet, but the Cinnamon Roll came in a close 2nd, tasting exactly like a cinnamon roll! They also had vegan and gluten free options that looked delicious!

Yelp
This is the first time I am having a cupcake from any cupcake Royale. I went here as part of a yelp elite squad event and ordered a Bi Pride (Ube cake with raspberry frosting and blackberry jam themed as part of Pride month. I ordered it to go and got it in a cute little box. The cupcake itself was delicious. Not too sweet and had a subtle coconut y flavor to it. Overall both my son and I loved it! It's well worth another visit to satisfy a sweet tooth.

Yelp
I tried this place when my team ordered some cupcakes for snack, and there was a wide variety of more simple flavors (so I personally have not tried some of the other flavors like cream cheese/red velvet/etc). I tried the chocolate one with chocolate cream with a horse on top (surrounding cupcakes were hats, etc, implying a Wild West theme). Cupcake itself is decent. Some reviews say they are dry, which to some extent it is true, as the outer parts of the cupcake are a bit dry, though kinda okay because the texture reminds me of brownies, but the texture and moisture level are adequate inside. Cream is a bit thick, kind of frosting-like, but not overbearing in sugar so I was actually able to manage to consume an entire cupcake unlike many other places! The horse on top is a clump of sugar; nice art, but biting into it, there was a slight aftertaste so I decided to not eat that.

Yelp
Cupcakes were clearly left over from the day before. They're usually super soft and moist but terrible today.
google avatar

Lawrence L.

Yelp
When I want a decadent indulgence, I look for a treat that hits on taste, originality, and visual appeal. Cupcake Royal always had a variety of incredible tastes and flavors. With cupcakes, it's all about the frosting-to-cake ratio. Cupcake Royal has a good ratio, and it's a great mix. The people beyond the counter were friendly and shared the artwork was done by a local artist. Parking can be tricky as it's right across from Pike Place Market. All over, it's worth the trip.

Yelp
Stop what you're doing and get to this shop - the peanut butter chocolate cupcake is AMAZING! I only wish we had been in town longer so we could eat there more!
google avatar

Yelp
we were walking on the street and saw this cute little shop and decided to go in. They are the cutest cupcakes with really cool flavors and also coffee and ice cream. I absolutely love the decorations. We got the lavender flavor cupcake and it was so delicious. I think there was actually lavender inside it. Service was super nice and friendly and very quick considering they had just opened up.

Yelp
Open on New Year's Day!!! Stopped in at the downtown location for a sweet treat and was pleasantly surprised to see that they were open and ready for business. Such a wonderful selection was available it made it almost impossible to choose. I purchased a 1/2 dozen to respect my pockets. Lavender Triple Threat The Gay Cinnamon Roll Red Velvet Classic The buttercream is AMAZING! You can tell they use quality products for their baking. The cake has a wonderful consistency that literally melts in your mouth!
google avatar

Yelp
Cupcakes here are amazing, can't wait to go back. If you want a surprise treat that is fit for the biggest sugar connoisseur, this is the place.

Yelp
My all-time favorite cupcakes, ever. The deliciousness is unmatched, and whenever I am in the area, I make sure not to miss out on a visit to Cupcake Royale. The concept is darling, as well.

Yelp
Heading back to hotel and saw this place so we selected two for dessert later (vanilla with vanilla frosting and a vegan chocolate). Took a bite from my partner's chocolate one first and it was hard and dry!? I thought that maybe it's just the chocolate one but the vanilla one was the same, bummer. Unsure whether a bad batch, not fresh, or if they really are like this. I'll never know. A loss taken and I'm disappointed that these didn't live up to their shop's namesake.
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down, thee best red velvet ice cream I've ever had...period. I wish I had more to share about this place, but I don't. I only come for the ice cream and each time it taste just the way I like it. ‍
google avatar

Sydni M.

Yelp
Best cupcakes I've ever had! The cake itself is cloud like fluffy and moist while the frosting is perfectly silky and light. I greatly appreciate that they're not overbearingly sweet and that the flavors don't come across artificial. We got to enjoy the Lavender and Lemon Drop cupcakes and they were well loved. It would be so cool if they had more fun flavors in the future. The place is super fun and cute. My only complaint is that I wish the staff was a little more pleasant during my visit but I also understand everyone has bad days sometimes. Still, 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Feier L.

Yelp
This rating was really hard. The cupcakes aren't bad, they just didn't live up to the hype and price. I do love that they use local ingredients and no preservatives! The first time we tried to visit, they were sold out. This time, we got there earlier and got 4 different ones to share. They're not topped with too much frosting, which I like. The frosting also had a good balance of flavor. The cupcake themselves felt a bit lacking and it's really hard to pinpoint what exactly for the vanilla ones. The chocolate one was not as rich or chocolatey as I hoped. Overall not bad, but for $5/cupcakes I just expected more. I'll just have to try out some other cupcakeries in Seattle before making a final decision.

Yelp
I LOVE Cupcake Royale! They have a number of locations throughout the Seattle area. I have had a chance to try a handful of flavors but my personal favorites are the Royal and cheese, the red velvet, and cinnamon roll. But best of all is the pumpkin cardamom cupcake. It's seasonal so you'll have to go in the fall. Overall I generally enjoy all the fall flavors much more than they standard flavors. They are typically more flavorful and moist. My next favorite are all the chocolate based cupcakes, which are also quite delicious. My least favorite are the cupcakes with vanilla bases. I personally think they have a much denser texture and dont have a notable flavor. Additionally they serve coffee beverages and ice cream as well, which both pair very well with the cupcakes as well! I typically go for a latte and a cupcake in the winter and a scoop of ice cream and a cupcake in the summer. Regardless of personal preference, I highly recommend swinging by and grabbing a few flavors!
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
There's always room for cupcakes! How exciting to have a Yelp Elite event during PRIDE to give me an excuse to check out the rotating flavors. The Gay was delicious and reminded me of that confetti cake you can get in stores... yet it tastes so much better!

Nikki R.

Yelp
Excellent customer service and beautiful presentation but cupcakes were a little too hard for my liking and the cake smelled fishy.
google avatar

Maryam K.

Yelp
I was nervous to try the cupcakes here after seeing reviews that they were dry. Speaking to my experience though, both cupcakes that I chose (triple threat and classic) were just right in texture AND not too sweet - as in, you will not feel sweetened out after eating one. The price is pretty steep though for ~$5 a cupcake but I did appreciate the packaging!

Santy R.

Yelp
Cupcakes: 1/5 - taste like store bought cupcakes that you would have on an every day occasion from the store, just to have some sweets in the pantry, so your local Target makes better cupcakes than these people / place. If you've had cupcake delight or sprinkles - stick to those. Cupcake consistency / construction is extremely dry bread. Topping, taste store / old. - had someone taste the cupcake, and I took one bite of this and that's all I needed, rest went to trash. Service: 0/5 - Dirty floors and workers don't give a fuck about the flies / bugs in and around the cupcakes, the same cupcakes that are in display are made in contact with the bug flies. Ambiance: Dirty floors and little to no adaptive holiday decorations. - stay away from this place nowhere near "royal" quality cupcakes
google avatar

Prakriti K.

Yelp
We were walking around Pike Place and figured we'd never been to Cupcake Royale before. There was a line which is always a good thing, especially when it moves quickly. We got 4 cupcakes, Salted Caramel, Cranberry White Chocolate, Vegan Chocolate and the Triple Threat. I felt they were okay. The white chocolate one in particular is my favorite so far. The have a couple vegan options which is excellent. The buttercream was a bit dry for my liking, I've definitely eaten better. Their ice creams are fabulous though! Also picked up capuccino shots. A good place for a quick cup of ice cream or cupcake when you're around.
google avatar

Mel T.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute cupcake shop after visiting Pike Place and looking for some calm after that storm. We ordered an affogato (they use stumptown coffee!) and delicious vanilla ice cream and it was the perfect pick me up for the afternoon. We were able to snag a table out front and noticed it was also a pick up area for walking tours to stop. It was a nice place to people watch and enjoy some good ice cream and coffee!

Auriel J.

Yelp
Enjoyed my strawberry ice cream and ginger peach cupcake. The red velvet cupcake and the salted caramel ice cream was enjoyed by my grandmother as well! The place has nice decor and the staff is nice.
google avatar

S L.

Yelp
The Gay cupcake was described as my wife's "best cupcake of her life". The lemon drop was alright. Definitely recommend eating them fresh and not waiting a night. Very friendly staff. Ice cream was good as well as the sugar cones.
google avatar

Alan Z.

Yelp
Had a single cupcake since I'm not too big on sweets, it wasn't that special, but everyone else seemed pretty happy to get them. The frosting was pretty nice, and I liked how the cupcake itself wasn't too sweet so it was pretty good.
google avatar

Ally M.

Yelp
Super cute vibes at this place! Went close to closing but the staff weren't bothered. Very sweet cashier helped us out. They were missing a couple of options but that is expected when going close to closing time. Cupcakes were soft and sweet. The sweetest part was definitely the frosting!
google avatar

Valerie Y.

Yelp
I came to Cupcake Royale and did not get cupcakes, but I had a great time anyways! It's very close to Pike Place Market and has wonderful flavors for both ice cream and cupcakes. I got a cup and split two flavors - the Washington hazelnut brittle and the chocolate chip cookie dough. They went really well together because they were both super creamy and sweet! I really liked the hazelnut brittle because it also had a nice caramel ganache that came with it. I would definitely recommend coming here at least once.
google avatar

Will D.

Yelp
Rude husky female brunette manager. Wouldn't let us order a couple of the cupcakes we wanted because she said they were cupcakes for phone/call in orders. That doesn't really make sense to save perishable items for a 'potential sale' that may not happen. Idk. We got there around 12p & I asked her what if you don't sell them, she said we can come back (hours later) 15 min before they close and order them, or she just takes them home. What?!?
google avatar

Casey N.

Yelp
We stopped by there and the cupcakes look amazing. I couldn't decide so the woman working suggested the red velvet. It was amazing! I highly recommend stopping by this location when you are visiting downtown
google avatar

Christy A.

Yelp
I went to the Cupcake Royale in West Seattle today I ordered a tall latte and a few cupcakes. The latte wasn't even remotely hot, pretty much cold/ room temperature Huge waste of money and the barista failed to make a simple latte. I don't think she even frothed the milk. Probably just added the hot espresso to the milk. It was epically sad and frustrating Their over priced and then can't even make a simple drink. I'll stick with Starbucks across the street for my coffee.
google avatar

Nishika T.

Yelp
So happy that I finally got to visit this place today! I got here 30 minutes before closing and sadly they didn't have many options left and the cupcakes weren't as fresh. However, they still tasted pretty darn delicious! I tried a creme filled pistachio cupcake and Kate (chocolate with pink frosting) cupcake. The Kate cupcake didn't feel that exciting for me but I loved the flavors of the pistachio one. I do wish the pistachio cupcake had more filling. They also let me take my dog inside to order, which I always find very nice and convenient
google avatar

Whitney W.

Yelp
I applaud them for their creative ice cream flavors that I unfortunately didn't get to try today because they were sold out of most of them when I got there. So get there earlier in the day if you want to try them. Their cupcakes look appetizing, but like someone else said, not very moist. Nothing Bundt Cakes is better. Not worth $5 IMO. I did just get two cupcakes though. The two employees working weren't very attentive, and one was more concerned with closing duties than helping customers who were standing right there ready to be helped.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
I stopped here as we were walking back to our hotel. I got a cupcake & have now forgotten which flavor... but it was pretty good. I will say the cake wasn't as moist as I'd have liked. It was more firm & crumbly... but it was still pretty tasty.
google avatar

Cory N.

Yelp
I was really excited to try Cupcake Royale. The cupcakes were so pretty and seemed like the perfect ending to an amazing day in the city. Unfortunately, once a bite was taken the excitement fizzled. My cupcake was so dry, making it seem stale. My 3 other friends all said the same! We were bummed.
google avatar

Jacques I.

Yelp
Buttercream dream! I'm a fan of Cupcake Royale. Their cupcakes are always soft, flaky and icing is a whipped buttercream that's light but gives you that sweet punch! In my recent visit to Cupcake Royale, I came here to get my friend a cupcake for her birthday, and the place was pretty packed with tourists since this is their downtown Seattle location, near Pike Place Market. Because of so, staffed seemed a little rush to help people as fast as they could, but they were friendly enough. For myself, I purchased the seasonal Strawberry Shortcake Cupcake, which the employee exclaimed was her favorite. And after trying it, I can see why. Not only was the cake itself very soft, which I was hoping it would be, but once you bite into it there is a strawberry jam filled inside! It was nice surprise, as it was tart and sweet all at the same time. It was yummy! Not only does Cupcake Royale have a variety of cupcakes, but they also have ice cream and coffee! And to-go pints, in case you want to make a cupcake sundae at home. Hey, that's a real thing at Cupcake Royale and I ain't complainin'. For your cupcake fix in downtown Seattle, visit Cupcake Royale to curb that hunger and add ice cream for a sundae if you're dining in. DO IT.
google avatar

Dana M.

Yelp
My kids wanted to try cupcake royale.. I've had it many times before and have felt they're a solid 3 cupcake. I wanted to give my kids the chance to rate them too and they agree, they're good cupcakes but not the greatest. Cupcakes are cute, convenient to pick up in seattle and Costumer service was wonderful....buuuut the cupcake itself is just okay.

Yelp
I tried the lavender cupcake it was absolutely delicious! Very cute set up. Friendly staff. Husband and I came by on a whim. Also the candied yams cupcake was yummy! Great place to go in and grab some sweets. They also have a merchandise section in the front of the store.

Linda M.

Yelp
Stopped in for a treat as it was close to our hotel. I figured a cute shop right by the market has to be great. Sorry to say the flavor was pretty mediocre. Lots of frosting on a very plain cake that tasted dry and flavorless. Disappointing.
