The 12 Best Affordable Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Located just east of the ASU campus, Curry Corner has long been a favorite for students and Tempe locals looking for delicious South Asian food on a budget. The paneer tikka and biryani are menu anchors, while the masala fries come crispy, spiced, and easy to share. Most appetizers and snacks land under $8, with wraps under $15 and generously portioned entrées under $20. Takeout is fast and popular, and the neighboring sister cafe Chai Corner offers additional grab-and-go meals and drinks at similarly low prices." - McConnell Quinn

While vacationing we wanted to try a new restaurant so here we are. The restaurant was very clean, the staff was nice and friendly, the food was good and reasonably priced. We ordered tameori wings ne lmb. Both were seasoned well and cooked to perfection.

Google
This was our 1st visit at Curry Corner. The food was excellent! The server was very helpful in describing the different dishes. We're definitely going back!

Google
This is a great Pakistani restaurant in Tempe, right near ASU. It's clean, and the ambiance is calm and welcoming. In the picture, I ordered: Beef Seekh Kabab, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Biryani, and I got garlic + regular Naan. The service was great and the food was really yummy. I do recommend this place!

Google
Super rich, very filling food. I’m new to the Indian food in the valley, but everyone suggested Curry Corner, and I was not disappointed! Tikka Masala Fries are famous for a reason, so good.

Google
We ordered a feast as everything on the menu sounded amazing and it did not disappoint! We seen this restaurant on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and now know why they made the cut….everything is so flavorful, individually unique and fresh. We had plenty of leftovers for later which was even better. The staff is really friendly, attentive and welcoming. Ordered spicy but could have gone spicier. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Very authentic. Lots of goat dishes. They even had Paya - a rare find at restaurants.. Chicken Rajasthani was very good but on the spicy side. Chola puri and naan were also good. Chicken Tika Masala fries were very tasty but unevenly heated so some fries were very cold.

Google
Samosa chat was one of the best I had in Phoenix. Other dishes such as Nihari, Chicken Makhni and BBQ was good. Didn’t like much of Chicken Kadahi though. First set of 5 naans they gave us was not fresh but later naan was fresh out of the ovan. Overall great food.

Omnia Rashad

Google
The food is very delicious. The place is comfortable, and the staff are very respectful. I placed an order for myself and my husband, and I informed them about something I requested without any additions because of my allergy. They prepared it as requested for me, and for my husband, they made it normally.

Yelp
Have tried this place few years before after watching guy's show from Food network, it was good but wasn't delicious Did not feel like going back and I have never been there after one visit. Good food for once. Not the kind of one that pushes you to go back again.
google avatar

Alfredo H.

Yelp
Worst curry I've had. Orderer lamb curry, it was some kind of warted down bland soup, the lamb tasted like pork. Not even the naan bread tasted good. I wont be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
Super good quality food and super delicious. I did take out so not sure about the service or ambiance, I do wish I asked for more spice. Definitely come try this place out!

Yelp
I went in with high expectations because I'd heard so many good things about Curry Corner, but unfortunately it was just an okay experience. I dined-in on a Saturday around lunch time and there was only one other group there so we were instructed to seat ourselves. I ordered the chicken makhani and naan and while the food came pretty quickly, the service was just okay. Our server forgot some of the naan when our food was brought out so we had to ask for it a second time. I found the curry to be overall lacking in flavor though the naan and rice were both good. I wouldn't say it was a bad experience, although there was unfortunately nothing in particular that stood out and would make me want to dine here again.

EJ H.

Yelp
Husband and I tried this for the first time and will definitely be back. We ordered the garlic naan, samosa chat, beef kabob with biryani rice and chicken tikka Masada. Everything was cooked to order and very delicious. Staff was very friendly and had good customer service. Make sure to bring cash for tip only.

Yelp
Traveling for work and my co-worker suggested we try Curry Corner as it has been featured on Guy Fieri's show. We love to find new and unique places so we walked on down. The atmosphere was very simple, quite, and empty to a point. We saw a lot of people come in for take out, but few dining in. The service was slow, very slow. It took some time to order, but once we did the food took a very long time to come out to the table. My personal feeling was to go orders were being filled prior to the tables. The Chicken Makhani was good and I enjoyed the meal though it is not something I would order again. The other dish we got was Chicken Rajisthani and it really packed a punch. There was so much flavor, it was delicious! Along with our main dishes we ordered the Garlic Naan, it was hot, fresh and very good! I could've used a second order of it!

Yelp
Found this local Tempe hot spot, huge lover of Indian food, let's check it out and see if the food is as good as the pictures, food was amazing, will come back for sure!!!

Jorge M.

Yelp
Always on point, unique flavors and good prices. The Thali plates are the hidden gems for sure.

Yelp
Loved loved loved this place! My hubby and I went for lunch on a weekend and had the best meal. We shared the tikka masala fries, they were good, very flavorful. I got the chicken makhani for lunch and he got the goat curry. We loved our meals and cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
I have not been back to Curry Corner for several years since my first visit. I am not sure why. We stopped by on Saturday after 12 pm and there were not many people yet. The service was good and the food arrived fast. Once we finished our lunch, this place was getting pack with dine-in customers and takeout customers. All four curries that we got were so delicious and full of flavor. Chicken was juicy and tender. They made the simple dal lentil curry so specifically good. Karahi chicken curry was so memorable and I could not stop enjoying it. Paratha bread was my favorite. It is lightly fried but still soft and not too oily. I want to visit their chai corner next door for some chai or lassi.

Yelp
I have always enjoyed the vegetarian options here. The food is always solid and even though I do not live close by I try to stop in when I am back in the area.

Yelp
I was a bad boy, I did it take photos of the food, it smelt amazing and just wanted to dive in. So meet some friends here last night, I love Indian food. When I arrived the place was packed, there was a large group from ASU there. The service was a little slow because of the large group, our group of four didn't mind it as it gave us time to chat. I had the Veg-Thali with garlic naan the only let down was the rice. Is you order the meat Thali you get different rice that was amazing. But everything else was very good. I like spicy food but ordered my food medium. It was perfect. The level of heat and flavor was excellent, this was my first time have Pakistan food, and I'll return.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Service was slow and ambience was a little basic but I have to say I was impressed by the food! I got the non-veg thali for $13 with garlic naan which I believe is an upcharge on top of that. Still a great value with a good amount of food. It comes with two chicken curries (I loved the Makhani!), daal, yogurt sauce, pickled onions and rice. The middle curry was tasty too but there were lots of bones in it. Still I enjoyed it. Many reviews talk about the flavorless and watery curries but I have to say my experience with the two curries I tried was positive! All in all, pretty great for an inexpensive casual Indian joint.
google avatar

G B.

Yelp
The food here is always amazing, especially their Thalis. My favorite is the Non-Vegetarian Thali paired with Garlic Naan. I took my niece there recently and started off by sharing an order of Pea and Potato Samosas. Perfectly crisp with a delicious sauce for dipping. We both had the Thalis and were extremely happy. I will say that the place looks like it's falling apart with a giant hole in the ceiling. In addition, the soda and ice machine were inoperable. At $13 for the super generous Thali plates, it is a great deal.

Joe A.

Yelp
Ordered take out here and the food is really good and authentic, one of the best food spots in Tempe!

Yelp
I can't belive all these years I've been coming here I never did a review. Well this is one of my favorite curry place.. Many different varieties and meat choices.. The Tika masala fries and tandoori wings are yummy. But the wings one of my fav dish there... Sooooo yummy. I haven't had a dish here I didn't like.. But be prewarned.. Service sucks I guess at least they are consistent...

Tony C.

Yelp
The food and service here is amazing. The pakora and Aloo Tikki are so tasty. The entrees I ordered, the chicken makhani and tandoori chicken wings also very good. Proportions are also perfect. I would highly recommend to friends and family. I will be coming back

Yelp
(Note): It says the meat is halal but as one of my friends asked for any certificate to show they order it the waitress couldn't do so. Also there were plenty of drawings along the hallway of idols & deities as well as Indian religious songs playing so I find it a bit hard to believe this place serves halal. Just a note for those who might be strict on that diet. We came in and were seated and the only customers in entire restaurant at 2:30 pm..... not a good sign. Nonetheless continued on to order. Got their chicken tikka leg n thigh and mango lassi along with a couple of beef kabobs. Service was quick and friendly albeit a bit too quick... took them less than 3 minutes to bring out my leg n thigh tandoori.... world record tandoor cooking time I thought..... yea not quite.... The chicken had a very strong odor once I bit into it so it seems it was old chicken which they microwaved or put in the oven a couple of minutes then served it. No worries let me take a sip of the mango lassi to wash out the taste of old socks from the chicken..... wrong again....super sour taste and bubbly as if the yogurt had fermented or gone bad. Ended up throwing that away aftet two sips. The bread was very good I must say and the beef kabob was decent. Samosas are also fairly good. The only sad part in eating at any restaurant where you don't see many customers during what should be lunch or dinner time.... is that you will get old food and that is exactly what I paid for unfortunately. Just a warning to the regular customers... please don't hesitate to return your food if it smells foul or tastes musty.

Angelica G.

Yelp
Service was nice and quick. This place was so nice and cozy. Cute little hidden spot. Food was delicious. Flavors were not as strong as I expected them to be, everything was quite mild. I got the Tiki Masala with rice and naan. I also got the mango drink which was super thick and delicious.
google avatar

Babu G.

Yelp
Got the thandoori meal, it had more onions then meat unfortunately. The flavor was excellent and tasted great but was a little disappointing in the Santorum of meat.
google avatar

Khanie S.

Yelp
BEWARE! Chicken korma is not chicken korma. Chicken Korma is supposed to be sweet and creamy, a bit nutty in taste. But this straight up taste like chicken curry. It's not creamy or sweet at all. It's very waterey and looks/tastes like it was drowned in chili oil.
google avatar

Yelp
It took me years to enjoy Indian food until coming to Curry Corner. I'm now absolutely obsessed with their food and have been eaten here 5+ times now. Whenever I come, it's always busy - but probably because it's just so good!! I've only had good service here. This is the best Indian food in Arizona (IMO).
google avatar

Gloria H.

Yelp
The food is always delicious. They have a wide variety of vegetarian options and the spice is on point! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Rebecca J.

Yelp
Take out only. Not very spicy, even when I order "spicy" or "5/5". Tastes fresh, though, and the man at the register is always nice!
google avatar

Fahim A.

Yelp
This is our first time being at the Quri corner with our kids and we absolutely love it. We ordered the burgers chicken tikka masala with noan and it was Very authentic and delicious. Also, the servers were amazing very kind, respectful and really helpful with placing order. Specially, with the little ones and what is not spicy. The Kashmiri chai was just amazing. Lastly, the ambience is really great as it's not blasting music. Definitely we will be back God willing.
google avatar

Gregory C.

Yelp
Tried this spot today and I was a little disappointed. I got the Chicken Tika Masala and the Palak Panner . They were really bland considering the Indian food I've had in the past . The Samosa was very good and huge . Probably won't go back until I hear the food has changed.

Yelp
I was debating whether I should get some Indian food at The Dhaba or Curry Corner and chose the latter. Overall, I thought it was okay, but I would probably try out other nearby restaurants serving Indian food first before I decide to come back. MY ORDER x1 Tikka Masala Fries x2 Garlic Naan x1 Nehari TIKKA MASALA FRIES: ($6.5) The masala tasted good with plenty of cheese on top. Makes for a tasty salty, greasy and filling snack. My only qualm is that the fries had gone soft with all of the sauce on top and underneath it. GARLIC NAAN: ($3 x 2) I've always been a fan of naan with it's mild sweetness and good chew, and while the naan here was average and a bit doughy, it fulfilled my cravings for naan. 1 order of naan gives you 2 medium sized pieces of naan that have been cut in half. NEHARI: ($14) This one is tough for me to rate as I wasn't a big fan of the flavor of the stew. At the same time, this is the the first time I've had Nehari and this could be what Nehari is supposed to taste like. I CAN say that while the beef did not melt in my mouth, it was quite tender. Because the Nehari could have been spot on for what it is, I'm rating 3 overall stars instead of 2 ENVIRONMENT: slightly dim lighting and dated tables detract from the otherwise modern looking interior TIPS: - it is in a shopping center with a parking lot CONS: - naan was sub-par

Yelp
What a gem in Tempe! I'm from NY, so I am always looking for authentic diverse food that is packed with flavor. Curry Corner does not disappoint. They offer some of the top Indian dishes including samosas, pakora, masala and biryani. The food was delicious! The goat meat was soo tender. Everything had great spices and flavor. The service was quick. And the atmosphere is simple and quaint. I will definitely be back. There is so much more I'd like to try!

Kaitlyn B.

Yelp
Tried calling multiple times to ask about an order. No answer. Terrible customer service. Finally got ahold of them after all the calls and it's already been picked up.

Jordan I.

Yelp
Can't go wrong, great food, great service, always hot and fresh. Tandoori wings are unreal. Every dish I've tried so far has been delicious and I'm planning on trying everything on the menu. Deserves to be much busier. Easy 5 stars.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a long time now and I'm so happy that they have been consistent over the years. Lots of good options on the menu but if I have to recommend one particular item for first timers, it would be the chicken tikka masala and a side order of garlic bread. So much flavor is packed in the sauce that you're guaranteed true happiness. Service is fast and the restaurant is clean!
google avatar

R H.

Yelp
Came in last night 8/6/23 and to be honest I've way better Chicken tikka masala off of lunch trucks this was not good watered down Glup, the mixed bbq was to have veggies it had nothing but dried out bbq chicken pieces and some kind of dried up mealy sausage thing that was inedible.. the pakora was cold soggy like how long as this sat around it's 110 degrees how do you serve cold fried food, they where terrible. I'm being nice with two stars. I would never go back..
google avatar

Arti S.

Yelp
Decent food, simple but quiet ambiance, very reasonable prices. They have vegetarian (and halal meat) entrees and the server assured me that they clean the pans so it's not cross contaminated with meat. Their fried foods however are fried in the same oil as meat. I ordered the palak paneer with garlic naan. The naan was hot, fresh, and melt in your mouth kind of soft, as was the paneer. The palak (spinach) itself was a little basic and didn't have much flavor. Seems like it could work well for someone who can't tolerate much spice. Service was slow but it might be a nice spot to go with friends if you have the time to hang there for a while and you're not super starving right away. The place didn't feel packed but was at 50% capacity on a random Monday night. It was nice to be able to have a conversation and hear each other unlike some places that can be very loud.
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
Chicken Jafrezi, tandoori chicken and garlic naan is to die for! I had to be in Tempe yesterday and, although I had food to cook at home, I wanted to support a local favorite small business and thought immediately of Curry Corner! It was my good fortune that they were open so I offered Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Jalfrezi. It was so amazing and fragrant, even packed in tidy packages. I could barely wait to get it home. I The meals were delicious with plenty to save for later today. Great restaurant and excellent for take out during COVID-19.
google avatar

Sumita M.

Yelp
These guys have the best Nihari, Naan, Mixed Grill, Achari chicken, Karahi koshat and chicken tikka masala. The naan bread melts in the mouth and is scrumptious!!! The tikka masala fries are delicious!!! The only thing that needs improved is the uncomfortable seating arrangements on the booths!! They need to be updated. We love to eat at the restaurant, but it is uncomfortable to sit their and eat on the booths as they will hurt your bottom
google avatar

Jerry L.

Yelp
I have only eaten here once but that will probably be it. This place is average....It's good. Nothing stood out as far as Indian/Pakistani food as far as flavor. It's weird to me because chandler and Tempe has a pretty large Indian and Pakistani community but not many great Indian or Pakistani food places. I feel most places are becoming complacent and putting out average at best food but Indian and Pakistani food could be great...popping with flavors. Oh well, my search for great Indian or Pakistani food continues.
google avatar

Amie T.

Yelp
I wish I could give Curry Corner more than 5 stars. Not kidding, I go here so frequently that I have the number saved in my phone. I regularly order take away from Curry Corner and am so happy to find that it keeps hot until I get home. I normally order the Chicken Makhani, Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka Masala, Hara Masala Chicken, Traditional Curry, Curry Fries, and add a cheese naan with my order every time. When dining in, do not expect a fancy night out. This is a hole in the wall location and although it is very enjoyable for me and my friends/family, others may find it not up to their standards. It is very clean and the service is always delightful. This is a restaurant that everyone in the valley should experience. It is completely affordable (cheaper than some fast food orders) but I would pay double just to keep eating here. And with that, I need to go place my Friday night order!
google avatar

Tanya H.

Yelp
I've never really has to much indian foo but this was so GUUUUUD!! So much flavor!!! Went two days in a row!!!!
google avatar

Rosa E.

Yelp
The food was good! However I was halfway expecting to choose my spicy level and that was not an option here. Which is fine the food was good besides that. I'm giving it a 4 because halfway through dinner we started running out of drinks and they never got refilled. I wasn't too sure if we were supposed to go up ask for refills. We started with someone coming to take the order then they never came back until the food came out then no one came again. It was rather confusing.

James G.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was amazing. Loved the vibe in the store. I've had other Indian restaurants it was pretty on par with them. But I can eat chicken tikka masala pretty much whenever.
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
Maybe more like a 3.5, but tough call. Food has good flavor, but we've had better for this type of food. Portion sizes are kinda small but the prices are decent on the menu for what we got. Checked our receipt and each entree was $1-2 more than the menu price. Don't know how this is allowed. Just like others said: random pricing which we aren't a fan of. Service was terrible. We were told booths are "for families" so I guess us 3 didn't count. Even though during our meal a couple sat in a booth with no issues. Took forever to take our order. Then never offered refills of water & soda until we were almost done eating. And that was a full 1.5 hours after originally sitting down. No way this place could be on DDD nowadays.
google avatar

Grace D.

Yelp
This is a fun spot for people who like Indian food and want to try something just a little different. It's a cozy space, full of warm colors and smells. While it's close to downtown Tempe, they have a parking lot that makes getting there easy. The menu can be a little overwhelming for those who know nothing about Indian or Pakistani food, but the staff are willing to help. My favorite thing I've ever had here was on a staff recommendation. Service can be a little slow sometimes but the price is right. Everything you order comes with basmati or naan. You'll probably need it to tamper the spice! Personally, I'm all about the garlic naan. I love spicy food but this place has made me cry so know that before you go! Their menu has less common options, incorporating some middle eastern dishes like Afghani boti. They also serve lamb and goat if you're looking for a different meat choice. I recommend trying their paneer - it's delicious!

Sara A.

Yelp
Excellent Food. Especially the chicken Kabab & tikka masala. Couldn't find a better restaurant than this one for Pakistani cuisine.

Charlotte Y.

Yelp
New favorite spot. The goat is so tender in delicious. I come here twice a month now after a friend told me about this place. My favorite curry spot in town.

Shyla D.

Yelp
AMAZING!!!!! Incredible flavor depth!! Perfect amount of spice in each dish - the heat doesn't over power the flavor complexities. Samosas with the tamarind sauce are perfection!
google avatar

Daisy M.

Yelp
Wow this place was delish! This was my first time eating Indian food and this was the closest place that popped up. No complaints from me though, everything was delicious. Everything sold here definitely packs some spice though so be prepared. Service was great; very kind staff. Lastly if I have to recommend anything its the hummus and garlic naan. Simply delicious.
google avatar

Steven P.

Yelp
Time dedicated to each plate. On the DDD episode, him showing the number of ingredients that goes in the lamb curry is more time than it takes to eat. Sometimes too much is too much. Not here. It's fire.
google avatar

David P J.

Yelp
I've never had naan before that I didn't want to eat. This garlic naan tasted like rubber duckies that I might chew on as a toddler in dirty bathtub water. Butter chicken was slimy. Tasted like mild salt. Salt, just mild salt. Tikki masala was more spice than flavor. Basically bland masala. No, spicy ketchup. Where is the richness on this menu? My family with staple dishes. Not pleased.
