LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"Carla is kind of internet famous. The pandemic-era sandwich pop-up initially expanded into a ghost kitchen space, and now has a brick-and-mortar on Beverly Grove’s West 3rd Street. You’ll find Carla’s standbys like the garlic aioli chicken sandwich on ciabatta and tuna chop sandwich with garbanzos and pepperoncini. Breakfast burritos and espresso drinks are also up for grabs. We recently visited Carla Cafe. Read our thoughts here. " - sylvio martins

The 17 Best Restaurants In Beverly Grove

"A lot of people use Carla Cafe as a delivery pick-up counter for their lunchtime salad or sandwich, but we prefer to dine in at this cute, all-green dollhouse of a space. That’s mainly because we need to be seated to eat its internet-famous Tuna Chop that’s equally delicious and messy. (Caution: creamy tuna and vinegar-splashed chopped salad will spurt out the ciabatta’s sides.) We’re also fans of the garlic aioli chicken sandwich that’s so potently garlicky you’ll need half a tin of mints afterward. Carla serves coffee, matcha drinks, and breakfast burritos for morning pit stops, but this spot is great for any last-minute bite needs in a neighborhood where quick, casual options are limited." - brant cox, sylvio martins

The Best Sandwiches in Los Angeles, According to "Sandwich King" Owen Han

"The Tuna Chop "I think it's the best tuna sandwich you can get. Typically, I would default to a tuna melt, but this is so good. They use a crunchy ciabatta, which works so well with the mushy tuna. Then they add pepperoncini to their tuna salad—if you eat that with their hot sauce, I'm telling you, it's so, so good. With tuna, you either hate it or love it. But if you love it, you’ve definitely gotta get this sandwich." - brennan carley

Carla Cafe Review - West Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Carla Cafe is a sandwich counter pop-up in West Hollywood and home to some of our favorite gourmet sandwiches in town. After operating entirely out of the chef’s home, Carla Cafe has now moved into the kitchen at Bootsy Bellows, a well-known nightclub on the Sunset Strip, where they’re doing sandwich drops three times a week. They only make one kind of sandwich each day (which they announce on their Story), but just know that whether it’s pesto chicken, tuna chop, or garlic aioli chicken, you’re in for an absolutely tremendous lunch. All pre-ordering is done through DMs on Instagram, so give them a follow and stay diligent - time slots fill up fast." - Brant Cox

Absolutely love Da Carla! Every time I come here, the food is consistently amazing. They have the best paninis and tiramisu I’ve ever had — seriously, it’s like a little trip to Italy right in the heart of LA. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting, you instantly feel at home. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or a cozy dinner, it’s always a perfect experience. Highly recommend!

Google
Okay I’ve ordered just about everything possible here so it’s finally appropriate to review. it’s all so delicious and tastes fresh, authentic. You can taste the freshness, everything made from scratch. Love Carla’s red pasta sauce. If you’re looking for real food, not your typical restaurant with filler ingredients and over salted food, you’ll love it here.

Carla is very nice & caring and great food, best Italian Espressos and a cool little "Biscottino" Pomeranian is waiting to greet you. Stop by and enjoy the authentic Italian experience. 😋👌

Google
This place is a hidden gem, small location but amazing food. Pretty pricy but worth the price for the quality and freshness, worth every penny. I ordered the prosciutto and capri paninis, my gosh one of the best panini I’ve had. The environment is homey and welcoming, it felt like home. The cook is polite and obviously knows what she’s doing. Most costumers that came in greeted her like a friend and can tell their relationship was genuine. Will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu items.

Google
We shared 3 plates and they were all FABULOUS! MY wife is very picky about Italian food and she said it was the best food she's enjoyed out since COVID started. Perhaps more notable was another customer who left as we arrived who said to the owner (Carla), "that was literally the best food I've ever had in my life!" The especial, salmon-filled ravioli in creme sauce, was our favorite. We were pleasantly surprised by the squid ink infused ravioli pasta...Wow!The lasagne and pesto pasta were close seconds. What makes this food truly special is that EVERYTHING is perfectly prepared. Nothing overwhelming - nothing missing. Just fresh and quality ingredients assembled by a person who KNOWS how to cook. I don't know the culinary pedigree of chef Carla, but the quality is worthy of positive a Michelin rating. We ended with pistachio gelato and tiramisu - just perfect! The owner prepares most everything to order, so be prepared to wait - it will take a while. But quality is never rushed. Enjoy. Sit back. Put your cellphone, and talk to people or enjoy the people watching or the fancy cars driving by. Just a delightful experience. It isn't cheap. If you want cheap, there's factory frozen, reheated food down the street. This is real, Italian, prepared with passion and expertly delivered food. Mangia Bene!

Google
I've searched the seven seas for the best chicken panini, and I found it right here at Da Carla. I asked the owner what her secret ingredient was in her sauce, and all she said was "love". The service, food and ambiance were all tremendous. Added bonus: Biscuit the doggy (see photo) greets every customer with a snaggley-toothed bark.

Google
This is by far my favorite cafe in Beverly Hills. Carla the owner is as authentic as it gets. She takes her time and offers some staple items. Her tuna sandwich is to die for and the bolognese pasta. the coffee is straight from italy, so the espresso is insane. i tell everyone about this place. If you are in beverly hills and stop by say Jonathan sent you!

Yelp
Mangia Galore This is my new favorite cafe in LA. I absolutely love it and love that it's just around the corner. I had myself a "party of me" lunch and was greeted by the family (owners) and the most friendliest pup, Biscuit! I ordered the famous lasagne and I'm absolutely ruined for life - it's the best I've ever had. And I've had my fair share of amazing lasagnas. Also the Tru Cinnamon water is amazing! Highly recommend it! I'm definitely coming back (soon) to try the other dishes and desserts. Grazie

Yelp
This is THE hidden gem in Los Angeles. We stopped in here yesterday by coincidence - we parked outside the restaurant looking to go somewhere else but figured we'd be adventurous and try it. The ambiance is great, it is very small but it is meant to be that way. The food takes some time to come out but that's part of what you're there for: fresh food from scratch takes time. Chicken Panini: this was the best panini we ever had in our lives. Everything was from scratch and perfectly cooked. Pesto pasta: very good and very light. No heavy sauces or creams used, all from scratch. We left feeling full but light and agreed it was the best Italian we've had in the States.

Yelp
This place is absolutely PHENOMENAL. The food is fresh, homemade and bursting with flavor. Authentically Italian. Carla, the owner, is fabulous; welcoming, genuine and engaging. The experience is quintessential Roman. I feel like I just stumbled upon the greatest hidden gem in LA. I HIGHLY recommend.

Yelp
Great and authentic Italian place in the heart of Beverly Hills. The pasta bolognese and tuna panini were great. Don't ask if they have chicken pasta unless you want to get yelled at haha Highly recommend

Yelp
I stumbled on this little place while walking through Beverly Hills. The food was authentic and delicious. The best panini I've ever had. I will certainly return when I'm in the area again.

Yelp
We went here one night for an early dinner. The ambiance is nothing to write home about but cute and quaint. Clearly family owned/run and you feel that right away. We got two pastas- pesto, pomodoro and and eggplant parm. Honestly it was delicious. The pasta was really really good and the eggplant parm was great. We did end up paying a lot for these 3 items and were charged more than what was listed on the menu. Portions were small for the price, especially the eggplant p, but again great food overall

Yelp
The positives: Food very good. Pretty much any dish. The house red was pretty good also (but very inconsistent pours). I got a lot less compared to everyone else. Service very friendly. Very down to earth local feeling and cozy. Very small place but she accommodated our large party of 6 adults and 4 kids. The cons: Very slow for large parties. There is a dog that runs around. I think it'd be better if she asked if it would be okay for the dog to be around or not. Not everyone likes animals. If we weren't so hungry, we wouldn't have stayed to try. Price is a little on the higher end for the filet mignon and pasta and the portions didn't seem that much when we ordered a bunch family style.

Nazgol H.

Yelp
Best Lasagna that I have ever had ! Highly recommend this cafe. The Capri panini and Pinza was amazing as well.

Hector S.

Yelp
This is a cute, quaint, little Italian restaurant. The owner/cook was nice enough to make two orders of suppli of the three flavors. All were good, but the spicy one was the best; it was divine! My husband and I both ate the lasagna. The cook/owner made sure it tasted authentic. She did not disappoint. If you're craving authentic tasting Italian food, this is the place to eat.

Yelp
Needed a quick late lunch. Got the pollo panini and a soda. Incredible sammie!!!! Fresh, high end ingredients. Flavors way beyond my expectations. I was stuffed but would eat another for dinner.

Yelp
I would like to share my experience with Da Carla cafe. It's best and nicest chef I ever met, perfect service and really homemade Italian food Everything is fresh made at the moment and from farm to the table It's really authentic Italian food made by Italian

Ramesh B.

Yelp
Da Carla is cute little Italian restaurant We had the Arrabiatta and the pesto pasta They were both delicious Made with homemade sauce We will definitely come back
google avatar

Yelp
Cozy, charming, and immensely authentic with no pretense. Carla herself cooks all the yummy dishes for you, served on plates you'd find at a beloved relatives house. The menu boasts only a few selections, which makes sense since everything is fresh. After savoring every bite of my bruschetta and lasagna bolognese, I said to Carla: "Your food is beautiful. .And you are more beautiful!" I'll be back for more whenever I feel like having an authentic Italian supper!!!
google avatar

Cameron K.

Yelp
The lasagna was sumptuous and so light and delicious! I can't wait to have it again. It's the best ever! The service was delightful with a homey feel. The ambiance was bright and cheery. It felt like you were in someone's home and just enjoying the best company and meal you could possibly have. I can't recommend it enough! Oh...and the tiramisu is a must! Also best in show like the lasagna!!!

Yelp
We had a reservation at Spago tonight. But we were walking from our hotel in the afternoon and smelled this incredible aroma coming from this restaurant. So we canceled our res and we walked into Da Carla. The food was amazing. Well worth the cancellation for Spago. Very authentic. Small neighborhood feel. The food spoke volumes. Thx !!

Yelp
I love this small, family-owned restaurant. I visit every time I am in Beverly Hills. Wonderful, authentic recipes cooked from scratch, of course. Immediate service. Smaller space inside but in Beverly Hills you can eat outside much of the year. I truly enjoy saying hello to the Pomeranian who greets you and runs the establishment. Great wine pairings too! I have eaten many pastas in Italy and this pasta tastes just the same! What's not to enjoy if you want to transport yourself to your Italian grandmother's kitchen for a meal?

Ryan K.

Yelp
This place is so cute and so authentically Italian. I had possibly the best panini I've ever had. We randomly walked in here walking through Beverly Hills and it is now one of my favorite restaurants in LA. The owner makes you feel right at home.

Yelp
I felt like i was in europe eating here at this charming cafe restaurant tucked away on the quiet, tree shaded part of Santa Monica Blvd. I was greeted as if i were a regular here. The owner is a sweet woman and her dog is the cutest thing ever!!! As for the food and coffee...delicious!!! I had a vegetarian sandwich and the soup of the day was vegan. Thank you for offering cruelty food!
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE! Carla the owner is an authentic italian with an amazing energy. the food is to die for i get the tuna sandwich all the time. The pasta is amazing definitely recommend you try them all. This cafe is cute and private and great for quick on the go and for a quick bite. Located in the heart of Beverly Hills. The breakfast sandwich is the morning is amazing as well! something about the bread! the best espresso and cappuccino in the city in my opinion. Say hi to Carla for me! cheers

Dorothy P.

Yelp
Da Carla restaurant is a little Italian gem! Carla, the owner makes delicious authentic Italian food! I especially like the gnocchi and fillet mignon sandwich. I highly recommend Da Carla for all foodies.

Reza M.

Yelp
Honestly, some of the best Italian food I've ever had. Best part is Miss Carla treats us like family whenever we're in. She won't let you leave hungry.

Yelp
Horrible. Horrible. Horrible experience. We arrived at 12 pm on a Thursday. The owner told us she needed 15-20 minutes because she was finishing a large order so we agreed we could wait that amount of time to order. Well... needless to say the 15-20 minutes actually became and hour and a half. That's correct you read that right 1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTES it took to order and receive our food. Not to mention they gave our order away to the wrong person and therefore we had to wait again for them to remake the order. When the owner (and chef and cashier... all one person) gave us our food, she was going to charge us the full price for the food. We were so shocked we thought that after all that waiting we would at least get a discount if not the entire order for free ...we ended up having to pay for half of the food. The owner was mad at us for even expecting a discount. This was an insane experience especially since the owner showed zero grace, zero remorse, zero humility and was screaming at us. I'm not leaving out any details, this is the full story... I'm shocked is an understatement. Avoid this place if you care about timeliness and respect.

Yelp
I saw a video on tiktok that recommended the tuna sandwich from here. I tried and it was pretty damn delicious. My only issue is the price on it, even for a more "fancy" cafe, $16 for one sandwich is pretty ridiculous. That's pricing for an entree at a restaurant at least. I asked for an iced hazelnut latte, which she made hot and just threw ice into there. The pesto gnocchi was delicious, the serving size is a tad smaller than what I am use to receiving wt other cafes. The gnocchi itself was freshly made on the spot which made it amazing. Lastly, a mixed berry smoothie for $10. The size is probably similar to a grande from Starbucks but $10? It tasted like it was foamy and was not cold at all, borderline room temperature. The owner is a sweet lady, granted she opened a week before our first lockdown, the prices are noticeably spiked to other locations. Quality is amazing, quantity is more on the smaller side.

Robert S.

Yelp
Amazing food super fresh and authentic! 5 Stars Highly Recommend! The tiramisu was incredible! Tony was fantastic!!!
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
My friend introduced me to this place and it's fantastic. Carla is amazing ( owner) and she's the one who made my omelette. Even if you are not in it for food, there's coffee and pastries. Also I got greeted by a super cute puppy.

Gino C.

Yelp
Being first born generation Italian in LA and growing up with the wonderful family Italian home cooking. Da Carla brings back these great memories of Italian cooking! Da Carla is best Italian restaurant that brings back these memories and is the best Italian food in Beverly Hills.

Tom G.

Yelp
Quickly becoming my go-to for authentic homemade Italian dishes like mama Leone used to make. The ingredients are top notch and Carla is a culinary artist. So much so that I would put her up against Il Pastaio, Piccolo Paradiso, Nerano up the street and a myriad of other Italian eateries in and around Beverly Hills. If you haven't tried it, you need to. If you have, please make sure to leave at least one serving of Lasagna bolognese and gnocchi for me.
google avatar

Nirav P.

Yelp
We absolutely loved this restaurant. Carla, the owner (and Chef) introduced herself to us. All of the food was extremely authentic. In our conversations, we discovered that she was from Rome and we could tell by the way that she cooked the food. The desserts were all handmade and extremely tasty. It is a small restaurant but highly recommend it for its authenticity and experience.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
That was the best breakfast sandwich, I've ever had. I've had two in the last three days. Say hello to biscuit for me. Carla can sign too.
google avatar

Cesar A.

Yelp
Every dish is done with care and it shows in every bite. The ravioli A la Crema is the best in town. Order two portions

N A.

Yelp
Authentic Italian... good food, good service. Simple as that. Make sure to finish your meal with the desert
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Carla the owner (and chef) is so warm and welcoming and the food is incredible. Recommend the pastas!

Nancy D.

Yelp
Simply said, Carla's restaurant is a place you have to try. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming. You're not rushed to get in and get out. Rather, you're encouraged to dine and take in the experience. Carla is a beautiful person! She's sincere, warm hearted and welcoming. My only regret is that we don't live closer to this restaurant so we could enjoy it more frequently.
google avatar

Joya E.

Yelp
I tried the turkey sandwich and it was very whatever. I didn't like the spread and it didn't come with a lot it came with very little arugula, tomatoes, and chopped cucumbers which is a little odd in a turkey sandwich. The sandwich seemed overpriced for $20 and very underwhelming. I noticed people sitting outside eating a penne pasta which looked good. I probably won't come back for a sandwich but maybe for a coffee and croissant.
google avatar

Sunny S.

Yelp
Carla makes THE best Eggplant parmigiana! Wow! So home made and delish! She cooks with her heart and it shows in her food. My husband and I love going to her place whenever we are in LA. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Alice W.

Yelp
Delicious Italian food and pastry with excellent service. We were in Beverly Hills for a week and we found this gem of a restaurant by accident. We were so glad we did! We returned twice more during our stay. I'm a bit of an Italian food snob - so I don't think I've ever returned to the same Italian restaurant repeatedly in a single week! Carla and her family are lovely, friendly and care about their customers. She made a special meal for us on our last night there. Can't wait to return to Beverly Hills for more lasagna, eggplant parmesan and the salad with chicken and citrus.

Scott C.

Yelp
This is a small, wonderfully personal Italian cafe. I was fortunate to meet and exchange pleasantries with Carla, the owner/chef. The lasagna was the best I've had, and the chicken panini was also delicious. This is not the place if you're in a rush, nor if you're overly concerned with price - not to say it's unreasonable. High quality food at a reasonable price.

Eliza G.

Yelp
The lasagna was delicious, the fettuccine pomodoro was amazing, the chocolate profiteroles were out of this world but Carla and Jesus are definitely the highlight of this adorable authentic Italian cafe. Within a few minutes of sitting here, we chatted with so many of her customers and passersby and we felt like we were in a small neighborhood even though we are in a sprawling metropolis. Highly recommend Cafe da Carla!
google avatar

Mona S.

Yelp
Yummy food, I had the chicken panini. Very nice staff. Cute little place to get away for a lunch and feel like you're in another city- not in Los Angeles

Jessica I.

Yelp
Chicken caponata panini was absolutely delicious. The owner is very welcoming and we enjoyed our lunch thoroughly!
google avatar

Forrest G.

Yelp
Carla fixed us our very own homemade lasagna and Bolognese pasta! It was terrific! We also had a caprice salad which was out of this world! Charming atmosphere - the real deal!
google avatar

Ariel B.

Yelp
We love Da Carla! They have the BEST lasagna and bolognese, and the service and atmosphere is so wonderful and cozy. It's also a great place for dog/animal lovers (so if you have a friendly dog, bring it). There is a super cute and friendly little dog, Biscotti, who will most likely come up and say hi to you, then beg for food! He's very sweet and loves being pet. Also, I am not the biggest fan of gelato, but the chocolate gelato I had at Da Carla was better than any StarBurst, ice cream, or Snickers, it was simply perfect. 1000000/10, the whole family loved it! We'll be going again...SOON!!!

Kaylee S.

Yelp
Amazing fresh and home made food. Carla is an absolute gem. Would highly recommend for lunch or dinner.

Elias M.

Yelp
If you've been to Italy, then you know what the fuss is all about. Five star plus. Try a pasta with the homemade tomato sauce. Or a glass of wine with a piece of cheese after work. Excellent. The owner, Carla, is your topical high-temper Italian mom. She appears tough the first minute but after you get to know her for 5 minutes, you'll understand that she's softer than butter. Go.
google avatar

Raphael G.

Yelp
Carla is a wonderful caring and hard working woman. True Italian place that my Italian girlfriend loves to visit.
