General Election 2019 | Where to Eat When Canvassing in Chipping Barnet | Eater London

"Doorstep pounders near Clown Town (Barnet) trying to get a candidate elected to Clown Town (Westminster) could do no better than stopping off at Da Franco which has been there for 40 years and shows no sign of decline or changing anything about their formula that clearly works. Hearty no nonsense pastas, a dover sole or a tranche or calves liver and a glass of red wine and that’s a perfect post canvass dinner." - Jonathan Nunn

What a fabulous find. Lovely Italian restaurant serving delicious food. Good portions and my pistachio cake from the Amalfi cake makers was heavenly. Dan, his son and the staff were exceptional with their service. Will definitely be returning on a regular basis.

Fantastic Dining Experience at Da Franco! I had an amazing experience at Da Franco! The food was absolutely excellent—flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. The warm and friendly staff created a welcoming atmosphere, making the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. They were incredibly accommodating, even preparing a dish that wasn’t on the menu to suit my preferences. This level of service and attention to detail truly sets Da Franco apart. I highly recommend it and will definitely be returning!

This place is great. The service was superb my wife and I felt welcome and like home. The food was delicious. We ordered: burrata, mushroom cream soup, king prawns in garlic sauce, beef lasagne, and cremé caramel. We also had the house wine from Sicilia. Toilets and kitchen looked and were clean. There were several tables for 1-2 people, and many other for medium parties 6-8 people. We were given a shot of lime liquor at the end. The only negative aspect of the visit is seeing some flies inside, they were annoying. Sadly, this part stuck in our heads. Maybe they could be more careful with the back door.

(For some reason 🤔 I must have forgotten press the 'post' button) Anyway, I WILL BE BACK! Loved the food I had here. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful food. This is a family run Italian restaurant and they are extremely friendly and I like the fact that whatever food I chose in English they told me what it is called in Italian, that was a very nice touch 😀 to the whole experience. I learnt some new Italian words 😊 Everything was tasty, excellent quality, and fresh. My daughter had been twice before and brought my husband and I here. So I was already recommended 👌 Definitely not a disappointment. When the food is really good, anywhere I go, I like to meet the chef too. She was lovely too and the wife of the owner. 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 Thank you again for a lovely meal.

Pepe my absolute fave! What an an absolute angel with such a brilliant sense of humour! Daniel and Lester also such lovely people! What an entrance we recieved tonight followed by the most beautiful food! We had the Gamberoni starter followed by the Lasagne and Linguine Gamberoni! We finished this with an Espresso and 2 Limoncello shots! My word what a beautiful meal and fantastic service! Highly recommend! Affordable too to my surprise! I would have expected it to be more for the level of service and beautiful food! Thank you to the chefs for a beautiful meal! Me and my partner will be back!

What a great restaurant. Fantastic service I met Pepe, Daniel, Lester and they were quality. The food was amazing from starter to desert. The cost was amazingly affordable and I would have been happy paying double for it. Would definitely recommend this place if you like Italian. Love love love 💕

Yelp
Brilliant Old style traditional Family Italian restaurant. Really worth the trip up there if you are not local. I would say the best Italian restaurant I've eaten in except for one I went to in Italy years ago. Simple but elegant menu with very reasonable prices. But watch out for the specials. They sound (and look) delicious, but are always more expensive. Stick to the main menu and you'll be very pleasantly surprised at the bill. I only go there on special occasions as I want to keep it, er, well special. :) General description of menu. They don't do Pizzas (thank god), but they do all the standard Italian grub to perfection. But, usually with a little extra flourish. So, pastas, meat, etc. Terrific Entrees. Superb salads (their dressing is to die for). Recommended If you like Veal, look no further. And brilliant value: Around £8 for the Milanese (in breadcrumbs). Great fries too (home made). All the pastas are superb. Particularly the seafood. Terrific veggies. And they do them properly. So for instance spinach done the way it should be. Every kind of potato dish you could ask for. Dessert is a trolly, but very good. But be careful how much you order for starter and main if you want dessert, as they do not skimp on the portions. Order small at first and if you need more, order more. Or you won't be able to get in your car. LOL! Top recommendation: The king prawn Entree in butter. Get this and delight in the huge juicy prawns and gobble up the sauce (to die for) with the bread. Wines: Nothing special but adequate and reasonable. But they do have a large range of grappas and anything else you like to drink. And NOT over priced. This restaurant was run by the owner and his son, Daniel, for decades until the owner died a few years ago. So now run by the son. The chef is his wife. So it's a real family restaurant. And yes, the waiting staff are very cheeky, attentive and hug you or shake your hand as you arrive and leave. You mostly have to book as it's very popular with the locals and regulars. And people do travel for miles to visit. Treat yourself, make a special trip to a special restaurant.

Yelp
I agree with everything settingsun has said! This place has been around for years and is always popular. It doesn't open on Mondays but all other times, especially Thursdays-Sundays it does good trade. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. You'll want to come here again and again.

Yelp
Excellent local Italian restaurant. They do three different types of Amarone the cheapest of which is very reasonable for a restaurant at about £42 if I remember correctly and is very nice. The only issue I had was with my pannacotta dessert which had collapsed and was just basically a splodge on a plate. Other than that everything was excellent. The staff are very attentive and cant do enough for you.
