All-Day Restaurants Are Captivating Chicago Diners By Doing It All | Eater Chicago

"Intimate and intentionally unhurried, this Logan Square all-day gathering place moves with its patrons: from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the cafe hums with remote workers and early risers sipping coffee and savoring pastries; by 5 p.m., the lights dim, the menu shifts, laptops are swapped for phones snapping dinner photos, mugs become wine glasses, pastries become pasta, and the energy shifts from soft chatter to lively banter. The noise of Milwaukee Avenue fades the moment you step through the door, and since relocating to a larger space in 2023, it has leaned into a pandemic-forged focus on adaptability. As executive chef-owner Joe Frillman explains, the model maximizes the building and diversifies revenue streams: great coffee and pastries in the morning, an all-day gathering place, and a destination for dinner at night." - Tajah Ware

Why I Paid $21 for Tomatoes at Daisies | Eater Chicago

"Now in its eighth year, Joe Frillman’s lauded Logan Square restaurant continues to evolve: after moving to a larger space a few blocks down Milwaukee Avenue in 2023, it added daytime coffee and pastries, while the menu still highlights peak produce with a strong focus on pastas. The pastas are paragons of the form; the bucatini arrives in a sauce of heirloom peppers, guanciale, and neonata (a Calabrian chile paste) — the move if you enjoy a bit of heat. Despite its cheeky name, The Overpriced Tomato earns its $21 price tag, a tartine layering summer tomatoes with balsamic vinegar and bone marrow atop Publican Quality Bread sourdough for a sweet-and-tangy delight. Cocktails follow the seasons, and La Madrina — a blend of Glenfiddich 12-year-old scotch, peaches, and saffron — is poured tableside from a chilled flask; reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, it’s best savored slowly. Pastry chef Leigh Omilinsky turns out desserts worth saving room for, like peach pie with peach sherbet, and if you’re not in the mood for a sit-down meal, the daytime grab-and-go pastries are equally incredible; she frequently collaborates to keep things fresh, recently teaming up with Filipino bakery Del Sur for a calamansi-chamomile bun." - Jeffy Mai

The Best Pasta In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"If you threw “Midwestern pasta” into an AI image generator, you might get some cursed pictures of hotdish carbonara or jello salad bolognese. Luckily, Daisies has none of that. Instead, this Logan Square restaurant has some creative pasta dishes inspired by local Midwestern ingredients. Their eye-catching, reddish beet agnolotti, topped with crème fraîche and salmon roe, is a rich and salt-punched icon. But when it’s in such good company, like funky rigatoni and nduja or umami-packed gnocchi with chanterelles, picking a favorite from the menu can feel like asking a parent to pick a favorite child. The 26 Best Chicago Restaurants For A Birthday Dinner - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Daisies is a moderately upscale farm-to-table spot in Logan Square. And it’s the kind of place where your server will let you know not only where your lettuce came from, but its entire origin story, including when its birthday is, too. The menu here is mainly vegetable- and pasta-focused, but there are also appetizers like chips and onion dip (which is a must-order). Daisies pops up frequently on people’s “I’ve been meaning to go there” lists, so when you suggest it to your friends, it’s basically like a birthday present to them. Get access to exclusive reservations at this spot with Chase Sapphire Reserve. New cardmembers get $300 in annual dining statement credits." - adrian kane, veda kilaru, nick allen, john ringor
