Dalva e Dito

"Dalva e Dito is the informal eatery run by Alex Atala, famous chef of highly renowned D. O. M. Here, Brazil’s traditional flavours set the tone in "grandma’s" recipes such as the tasty moqueca baiana, a seafood stew with namorado fish, shrimp, mussels and squid, served with rice and pirão (a type of broth). In the shop next door, you’ll find artisanal products such as bread, home-made cakes and takeaway dishes." - Michelin Inspector

Unique atmosphere. They have an unique way of making you not feeling like taking your phone at all. I went with a friend, and while she was at the bathroom I started staring at the design, then I got bored and took my phone and started scrolling. Seconds after a clerk appeared and courteously introduced me a few interesting dishes there and explained a bit of the contents of each one. It was so entertaining and professional, it's the first time I'm introduced to essentially an ad and I like it.

We went to Dalva and Dito to celebrate my mom and my brother’s birthday. It was a lovely experience. The space is beautiful to start. Airy, open and calming. The service was exceptional. The majority of our group did not speak Portuguese and the servers were so patient with us as we translated back and forth. And most important - The food was delicious. I was so impressed that the restaurant really highlighted traditional Brazilian food - it was beautifully served and absolutely delicious. The beef stew melted in your mouth, the fish was fresh and delicate, and the moqueca was spicy yet approachable for the Americans in the group. They brought out two different cakes, on the house, for the birthdays. Now the crowd favorite was the strawberry meringue with an olive oil and sea salt finish. Absolutely unexpected and delicious. Overall, a 5 star experience for Brazilians and foreigners alike.

Best restaurant in Sao Paulo. Great story, authentic food, amazing atmosphere. Very beautiful design. Loved the experience! Fairly priced for exquisite cuts of meat. Delicious amuse bouche on the house!

Google
incredible experience! starters are courtesy and they serve a very soft butter with a bit of lemon flavour. amazing cod brandade, super flavourful, the black beans broth is fantastic! amazing surprise with the cuscuz, creamy and delicious. the meat was also very good, no words for the aligot and roti sauce is super authentic. dessert is incredibly delicious!

The food was nice, but nothing exceptional for the price. Maybe we should have ordered some other dishes. The interior is really nice though, with open kitchen and interesting design. The waiters were helpful and professional.

We visited this restaurant for dinner last night. The food was great! We especially liked the pork belly appetiser. We ordered an appetiser, salad, one main dish and 2 waters. The bill came out to be 300R. Everything looked fine until the waiter purposely did not show us the amount, he was entering on a machine. My husband tapped the card for payment and the waiter walked away without giving us a receipt. Once we walked out of the place, we realised it was a suspicious behaviour and checked the charge. It was 65$ while it had to be around 52$. We really loved the place, but this few bucks overcharge left a bad aftertaste. I am not sure if it was a pure scam or some hidden service fee. Be careful and ask for receipt at this place.

This place is super pretty and came highly recommended by a sales associate at LV. I love the open kitchen. The staff was like a well-oiled machine. The drinks were awesome, and the churro apetizer was my favorite. It tasted like a flauta--a very delicious flauta. We had the Davinha and Perfect Love, and I would order again in a heartbeat. Food: I had the vegetable rice dish and the steak parmesan. The steak parmesan was good, but it's not something I would reorder. The vegetable dish wasn't for me. I felt like it was heavy bc of the cream sauce, but it lacks the flavors one would expect from such a heavy dish.

Amazing experience, we were welcomed with a nice amuse bouch which was part of a Paulista Cous Cous kitchen team competition. My favourite was the sardines one. The Food was excellent in all the elements, although I didn't enjoy my main course much, the caramelised banana puree was delicious, although an extremely excessive portion, which take over the whole dish because it was too heavy and rich the pirarucu medallions were great but the portions were uneven and one was thicker and the other thin which resulted in one piece being perfectly and beautifully cooked and the other being super dry almost hard to eat. When the waiter did the check back on the table I mentioned it, and he brought it to the chefs attention who immediately offered to re-fire it or swap it to something else, as I was towards the end of it, I didn't wanted a new one. And they apologized again about the mistake. The desserts were also good, we left super happy. I would definitely recommend it, and would return in future.

Yelp
Atmosphere upstairs was open & spacious w/an open kitchen. I was with a group of 13 people so we got to try a lot of things. I was provided an English-written menu - thank goodness!! I'll be honest, I am not of all the things I tried but I know we got some excellent bread, lamb croquettes, fried pastry catalpa & some other things that were good! For entree's several people got the filet, steak parmagian, & I got the grilled Pirarucu. The steaks came with this cheesy potato thing that the waiter brought out in a pot & he twirled it around a spoon & gave it out to some people who had the steak - so cool! For dessert we tried a chocolate torte & a flan with spun sugar on it. Bathrooms are located downstairs! Fun place - we enjoyed it immensely!

Yelp
Following the same ethos as D.O.M., but taking a look at heritage recipes with a format intended to be enjoyed more regularly by guests of all ages, Dalva e Dito continues to show Alex Atala's commitment to Brazil, its products and traditions. Itself a Michelin-starred establishment, Executive Chef Elton Junior in charge of the Dalva e Dito's daily operations and on this day particularly busy cooking for a Rainforest Preservation lecture hosted by Chef Atala in the downstairs event space, guests are welcomed for dinner beginning at 19h00 Monday through Saturday, a weekday Lunches apparently also quite popular along with weekend Brunch. Situated next to an all-day Market, its offerings similar to those at recently opened Café Dalva e Dito down the street, it is after passing through the brooding bar area that seating is offered, a place near glass windows in full view of the kitchen a real treat as several Chefs work purposefully with a diversity of native ingredients. Informal but professional, English-fluent staff and menus both thorough in their descriptions, guests are soon greeted with the day's "Couvert," a R$25 charge bargain-basement for Bread, Beans, Salad and Spreads all made on-site and refilled for free. Decorated in Amazonian art and wood furnishings, high ceilings and foliage softening the volume of guests in a room filled by 20h00, it was alongside housemade Juice that dinner continued, the sweetness of Cashew Fruit and Honey not exactly "pairing" well to much but nonetheless an excellent palate cleanser between starters of local Crab au Gratin and whole-fried Manjubinha Fish with tongue-tingling Mayonnaise for dipping. Built on "Grandma's Recipes," Chef Atala's favorite reportedly Duck in Manioc Root Juice, anyone craving more of D.O.M.'s penultimate savory will do well to check out Dalva e Dito's more rustic version, the fork-tender flesh rich but not gamey while a generous helping of Rice and Flour to thicken the Broth makes the dish easily sharable for diners with small appetites. Finishing with Dessert, several offered from a Cart and others prepared in the kitchen, it was passing on items previously tasted at the Café that Cake and Pudding took center stage, the former offering four distinct layers of Chocolate atop a crispy Crust while Romeu e Julieta played sweet off savory bite-after-bite with no two quite the same.

Yelp
What a disappointment :( Great service, very attentive and very friendly staff. The food however was the BLANDEST dishes I have ever had...everything had no flavor that we ordered. The only dish we did enjoy was the dessert... Honestly, hard pass not worth the hype.

Yelp
So quaint and charming!!! Super-sweet employees. Fun bar and mercadinho where you can buy locally produced products such as honey, jams, freshly-made breads and pastries, qand candies. This is traditional Brazilian cuisine using European cooking techniques. The restaurant is relaxed and the food is delicious. I was lucky enough to have front-row seats at the kitchen and watch where all the magic happens. www.dalvaedito.com.br

Yelp
Date of Visit: 4/2/16 While on a work trip in Brazil, my colleagues and I went to dinner with our client at Dalva e Dito. The ambiance was classic Brazilian; a lot of wood, warm colors, vibrant atmosphere. We sat at the huge (~10ft wide) circular table in the center of the beautifully-lit main dining room, which made us feel like VIPs. Overall the meal was very good. We tried just about every appetizer, the group favorite being the octopus salad. For the main course, I had the fried octopus and seafood risotto, which was the lone "meh" note on the night (the octopus was *way* over-fried/cooked, leaving some of it almost inedible). That said, the real star of the show was the salt-cured fish, which was presented in a show-stopping fashion; En fuego! I can't recall the actual fish used, but it became lobstery-melt-in-your-mouth buttery soft in the salt cure; absolutely fantastic. Dalva is a beautiful space that, along with a Caipirinha (or three), made for a wonderful meal.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. Don't think I can say much more ... The caipirinhas are on point & so is the service. Opt in for the table snacks (pão de Queijo etc) - it's a few $$$ but completely worth it. Suggest choosing any of the DOM dishes, if it were up to me they'd all win awards.

Yelp
Pretty easy to get a table for two at lunch when we went on Tuesday. Cocktails are very good. We got the Sabor Brasileiro and the Porã which were both very unusual but very delicious.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now, and it is always a 5/5 experience for me. Maybe I'm at an advantage for always being with a Brasilian, but in my experience, there was always at least one server on staff at any given time that spoke English. We always opt in for the offered appetizers at the beginning of the meal. The staff will come to your table and offer it to you - this is NOT free. You will have to pay for it. It's bread, some pao de queijo (arguably the best in the city), fresh cooked garlic, butter, olive tapenade, etc... Delicious and fresh, and a great start to your meal. They also make some ridiculous caipirinhas here. They ask how much sugar you like (or don't like) and make your cocktail accordingly. Their caju / cashew one is phenomenal. There are also other appetizers you can ask for that aren't part of that initial one offered. Last time there, we asked for rice balls and shrimp pastel. Both were great, and I'd order them again. For a main course, nothing on the menu was really speaking to me. I explained what I liked and that I wanted something on the light side, and that I am open to fish. They recommended a Surubim - a white fish - that was really amazing. (See images.) It was in a perfect juicy, buttery sauce, and it came with a side of rice. I also asked for a side of palm hearts which of course are GIGANTIC in Brasil. Grilled on both sides to perfection. As for the service, I've always had a fine experience. If you are from out of the country, be patient with them and yourself. Remember that you ARE in a foreign country. Kindly ask if they speak English. "Fala ingles?" If not, get their Wifi password, and use Google on your phone. If I got frustrated every time I didn't understand something, I'd be in a BAAAAD place living in Brasil. This is without a doubt one of my favorite places. It is a must try.

Yelp
Restaurant of renowned Michelin star chef Alex Atala owner of D.O.M. constant presence in the list of the 50 best in the world. Excellent lighting in a spacious ambient and a gorgeous panel of tiles at the end of the main hall gives a "brasilidade "to the space. The menu predominates Brazilian dishes with the touch of the chef. I ordered the crunchy octopus with shrimp risotto that was "over crunchy" losing its flavor, but the risotto saved the dish The service is very good and the kitchen is open until midnight. I took a beautiful bottle of an organic white Portuguese recommended by the sommelier. Overall very good with small adjustments like the quoted above or the couvert cheese pao that needs to be made on time.

Yelp
We are here from NYC stopped by for lunch. The food, atmosphere, service and decor was amazing. I enjoyed every single bite.

Yelp
I was told this was a very traditional Brazilian restaurant that serves country style food, rather than top international fare and it certainly seemed this way. I went with a Brazilian friend and she made some great recommendations. we had fried yucca root, amazing cheese balls (this seems like a thing in Brazil, people are always comparing the way cheese balls are made at different restaurants), lamb and a chocolate mousse for dessert . everything was great, including the service. highly recommended and I'll be back. they have an English menu which helps.

Yelp
really delicious traditional Brazilian fares. Everything was well prepared, I really loved the little pao de queijo and the fish stew!

Yelp
The food is excellent. If you want bahian flavors with a bit of delicacy and sophistication this is the place. View overlooking the kitchen is nice (and reassuring!). Service is nice, but a bit slow. It took us more than an hour to get our food... at lunch! They have menus in English so with a minimum of efforts, you will be able to order what you want.

Yelp
We came to this place because it had excellent reviews. And I can understand these reviews if you're Brazilian, or speak Portuguese, or are cooler than we are. We came as tourists from NY and had quite a bizarre experience here. It was very difficult to understand how the menu would work from when we walked in (at first it seemed to us that we would just be served without getting to chose from a menu-however, that wasn't the case). We did get to order from a menu, but understanding the menu was difficult and we definitely didn't get what we expected. It was also difficult communicating with the staff since no one spoke English (but no blame on them, we don't speak Portuguese and were in their territory). In my opinion, this is a good restaurant to get a true Brazilian experience in and if you can navigate the menu and the staff. We're adventurous, but it was just confusing for us....

Yelp
Fantastic place. Amazing simplistic Brazilian food with a chef touch. Although pricy, you will probably love it. Great for a casual dinner and to bring tourists. The ambience is great and service is amazing as well. Most servers speak English.
google avatar

Renato N.

Yelp
They serve a beef as hard as a shoe sole. The problem was that the waiter said that hardness was correct (I believe he should have at least suggested to change the dish): they recreated the beef from Brazilian Northeast and the original dish, as I understood, is very hard and difficult to swallow as that one they recreated. I still don't understand why they recreated a hard tasteless grilled beef.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Great restaurant owned by a famous Michelin chef -- owner of D.O.M. Food, ambiance, service was excellent. The only thing keeping me from giving it a 5 star is that the wine list is weak for a restaurant of this caliber. They should have a much better selection than what they have. Mostly cheap wines. Overall, though, I highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Krishna S.

Yelp
Absolutely pretentious, ridiculously expensive, we went there in 2 couples and all dishes were either warm-cold, raw or plain vanilla, not at all worth the price over 600 reais. Stay away from this trap.

Yelp
Came here after a long day of eating and drinking, starting with this bakery, to an art expo, to a bar in santa magdelena. I wasn't hungry when I sat down and they started us with a bunch of Pao de quiejo and other treats which were so delicious I over filled myself. For the main course I went simple and got some chicken which surprisingly wasn't that great. One of the few meals I didn't finish. If you come here, come a lot hungrier than I was.

Yelp
excellent service and a really lovely space, but i wasnt impressed by the food. i found it gimmicky (why serve a dish with an ingredient that numbs your mouth?), aimed i guess at brazilians with a lot of money and not much taste. i had the crispy octopus, which tasted only of whatever oil it was fried in. it came with a risotto that had no flavor at all.
