Dry-aged steaks, sommelier wines, and southern-inspired dishes

"Deacon’s New South in downtown has a dry-aging facility on site — so you can take a peek at the meats maturing before tasting the exquisite results in the form of a porterhouse, Kansas City strip, or even a 36-ounce whiskey-aged ribeye. Other entrees at the attractive downtown restaurant show off local ingredients and Southern influences, from fried green tomatoes in an Alabama white sauce to spicy crawfish noodles." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

"With a new chef running the show, downtown’s L&C building’s ground floor steakhouse is still a great destination for a Monday happy hour or work dinner. Current menu highlights include fried green tomatoes with pepperjack grits, black truffle-topped carbonara, and of course, any of the house dry-aged steaks." - Delia Jo Ramsey

"I attended Toast the Trees, an Angel’s Envy bourbon tasting and dinner at Deacon’s New South on September 23: a three-course appetizer spread with cocktail pairings at 6 p.m. with tickets priced at $60 (purchased via Eventbrite). The event highlighted the bourbon tradition’s reliance on white oak for barrels and supported sustainability through the Toast the Trees campaign (every photo of Angel’s Envy posted and tagged equals one tree planted). After the tasting diners were welcome to stay for dinner; reservations could be made via OpenTable or by calling 615-994-1994." - Delia Jo Ramsey

"At Deacon’s New South, the downtown steakhouse is offering a selection of raw, dry-aged steaks—each cryovaced and wrapped in butcher paper and twine—for grilling at home, with add-ons like a meat & cheese platter and a Westland Distillery Single Malt American Whiskey flight; to order, call (615) 994-1994 for pickup between 6/17–6/21 (orders must be placed by Saturday, June 20); the restaurant is also available for dine-in service." - Delia Jo Ramsey

"Carla Hall is excited to revisit the steakhouse located “in the beautiful Life & Casualty building. They have great coconut cake and house-cured meats. They have a farm, too, so they offer beautiful produce as well.”" - Delia Jo Ramsey
