"De Afghanan is probably the most famous Afghan restaurant in America’s most famous Afghan immigrant community. Is there any question that the kebabs would be on point? The closet-sized original Kabob House location offers more of a sidewalk street food experience. De Afghanan Cuisine is the sit-down restaurant next door, and it has a broader menu of bolani (stuffed flatbreads) and rice dishes. Still, the kebabs are main event — especially the lamb and the thin, crisp-edged meat patties known as chapli kebab." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff

"Probably the most famous Afghan restaurant in America’s most famous Afghan immigrant community, De Afghanan’s various locations — including its Fremont flagship — are still slinging stellar kebabs and bolani (stuffed flatbreads) for takeout. Call in to the location nearest to you, or order delivery through one the third-party apps." - Luke Tsai

Disappointed with the takeout experience. I had previously dined at this restaurant and had a great experience—delicious food and generous, unlimited sauces, which really elevated the meal. That made me excited to order takeout this time. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match up. Each dish cost around $22, but they only included one small sauce per container. When I asked for more, I was charged an additional ~$3 for extra sauces, most of which I didn’t end up liking. It felt stingy compared to the in-restaurant experience, and it definitely took away from the overall enjoyment. Sad to say, I was really disappointed this time. I hope they consider treating takeout customers with the same quality and generosity as dine-in.

Hands down, our favorite top 3 restaurants. It's expensive but man it's so good. I have been here 10+ times over the year and the food taste is consistently great! We only come here for special occasion since it's expensive. You will want to try verity and take the left over home. Yummy. I highly recommend this if you like Afghan food. If you have not try, you should. Order what I ordered for 4. Bolani Combination: Murgh & Teka (Chicken & Beef) Triple Kabob: Murgh, Teka & Chaplee Kabob Mantu (Dumplings) Quabili Pallow May be I should go to dinner there tonight. :-)

Google
Big ups to this place for cooking delicious kebab that's perfectly juicy (succulent, even). That being said, they could give more meat given the price. I did appreciate the specialty bread for the table and the sizable portion of rice. I think the place is too dark for what it is, essentially like a dive bar atmosphere, but cleaner. It felt like they should be a hookah establishment given the atmosphere. Since it wasn't a hookah bar, the atmosphere felt off. They also say drinks include refills, but there is no fountain drink pour. Instead, they give you a can of soda that doesn't fill the glass. All in all, I go for food, not atmosphere. I would definitely eat here again on that sole basis.

I've been coming here with my dad for many years and this time, the proportions are hilariously small. Attached is a picture of the lamb shank with 60% bone, and 40% meat - what is this, literally as much meat as 3 chicken nuggets lol 😂 💀

We were seated right away and our drinks were brought immediately. Our food was served within 20 minutes. It was very delicious. The waiter was friendly. Afghan music was playing, and everything looked authentically Afghan.

Google
The mantu (dumplings) is delicious! Their chicken kabob is really tender and seasoned well. I forgot to take a picture of my combination plate. The Chaplee kabob is very interesting with a mild-medium spice. We loved everything we ordered and can't wait to return!

Amazing food. Yes thay take time to prepare but it's worth the wait.

Google
Great location for late lunch/early dinner. Plenty of seating. Great for groups of 2-6.

Yelp
(5 out of 5) The food here is amazing, I'm gonna give it a 4.9 only because right next store they have another restaurant that is takeout that is just .1 better!!! One of my best friends is afghan and his whole family come here consistently. Im lucky to have them share their culture and cuisine with me. The cool thing about the sit down restaurant is great because you can get as much chutney and afghani yogurt. I also love the feel of the restaurant, the entrance is very cool looking and when you walk in you can see them cooking the kabobs! Service is exceptional. Amazing family owned buisness When you come tell them Rothyy sent you!

Yelp
We ate at this restaurant occasionally and this place used to be packed with a line. However, in our last visit, it was surprisingly not full on a Saturday. We ordered leek bolani, lamb kabobs, chapli kabobs, and chicken kabobs. The bolani and chapli kabobs are on the slightly over salty side. We noticed that the cooks have changed and hence the food quality also changed. The food and service is still decent. We will continue to come.

Sheri W.

Yelp
The food here is just downright good. If you like Afghani food, this is some of the best. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their combo plates. De Afghanan is always busy but never a long wait for service. It's also clean and very well-themed for an Afghan restaurant. I also love their beautiful outdoor space and look forward to dining out there sometime.

Yelp
I really want to give this place 3.5 stars. I was first introduced to Afghan cuisine back in the DC and Virginia area having enjoyed casual and sit down and the food was always so flavorful regardless of service. My absolute favorites are qubali palau and mantu. Not having had this cuisine in many years, my husband recommended this place and said it's known as the best in the Bay Area. We arrived at a good time because shortly 30mins later the place filled up quickly as the restaurant indoors is small but tastefully decorated. We ordered borani with potato and butter but squash which was decent-- I preferred potato. They were out of leek that evening. And then the mantu came for appetizers. Presentation was nice but I felt flavor was lacking unfortunately. Finally, my qubali palau came. I have to say the lamb melted off the bone and was very flavorful but the rice not so much. I had to add salt just for it to have some flavor. I was mildly disappointed. My husband chicken, beef kabobs were ok--he enjoyed the Chapli kabob more. I didn't try it. Overall, decent experience but I wouldn't come back. FYI, portions are big.

Yelp
So let's start with the good. Plenty of seating. Inside is a more intimate and cozier atmosphere. Outside has a nice patio area and a few tables. We decided to sit outside. We ordered and got our food in 20-25 minutes. The chaplee kabob and murgh kabob is spiced well and the rice is fragrant and pairs well with the meat. The con is that one of the staff members sprayed some bug spray along the outside walls and the smell affected the outside patrons. We decided to leave a bit earlier because of this but overall, good food.

Lois B.

Yelp
My daughter asked for Afghan food for her birthday dinner. I knew exactly where to take her. De Afghanan. We ordered Quabili Pallow and Mantu to share. Excellent! The service was great. Very attentive yet not a bother.

Derek S.

Yelp
Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty experience. De Afghanan Cuisine is a full service restaurant. Parking is available next to the restaurant or on surface streets in front or behind the restaurant. The area next to the restaurant is definitely showing its age with more cars with expired registration stickers along with abandoned buildings. Dining is available indoors or on the patio featuring an ATM on the "porch". Entrances to the restaurant can be from the front door on via the back door next to the restaurant. Started off with the leek bolani and it was fantastic and huge. The pancake was filled with flavorful and juicy leeks and came with a cup of yogurt for dipping. The mantu was also tasty with ground meet and onions wrapped and topped off with some yogurt sauce. Opted for the chapli plate with brown rice as a main and it was also gigantic. The brown rice was a seasoned rice which was very flavorful. $32/head after tax and gratuity with tons of leftovers. There is a 3% credit card fee and tipping options start at 15% after tax...

Yelp
There is a large Afghan population in Fremont, and I was told to try one of their restaurants. I opted for DeAfghanan Cuisine, the most popular Afghan restaurant on Yelp. This restaurant did not disappoint, and I am glad it was my first experience with Afghan cuisine because I'd definitely add Afghan dishes to my list of go-to foods. It seems like there are two locations for this restaurant right next to each other. One is for takeout, and the other is for dining in. The dine-in restaurant seems unnoticeable at first because the exterior façade doesn't look like a restaurant. However, as soon as you open the heavy doors, you'll see a fully operating restaurant with lots of customers. I ordered one of their bolanis (I forgot which one) and the combination kabob specialty. The bolani is HUGE. At first, I wondered why it was priced so high, but the serving size definitely feeds 3-4 people. The combination kabob was a great choice because I couldn't decide which kabob I wanted. My favorite had to be the chicken, but all the kabobs were very flavorful. I opted for the Afghan brown rice, which is actually white rice but seasoned. This restaurant has excellent customer service. We asked for further details on the menu, and the waiter helped us decide on the dishes to order. I definitely recommend this place!

Ivonnie S.

Yelp
This place is a local Fremont gem. I've done both dine-in at this location and takeout at the small storefront right next door, and both spots have produced delicious Afghan food. The dine-in location has plenty of seating space, and the service was great too. FOOD RECS // + Triple Kabob Murgh, Teka and Chaplee Kabob plate + Butternut squash bolani: this is a big serving! We shared between four of us + Quabili Pallow: one of my favorite dishes to get. The lamb is fall-off-the-bone tender, and the mix of carrots, raisins, and rice is a delicious savory-sweet flavor combo. + Bodinjon Borani (roasted eggplant) + Firni (milk pudding with pistachio): great end to the meal

Kendall C.

Yelp
WOW. We specifically traveled to the East Bay to try this place and it was worth it! The meat was super tender and flavorful. The bolani was maybe the best I've ever had. The inside is decorated in a cool way so it's fun to dine in!

Pheeona P.

Yelp
Awesome food!! Very delicious. This was my first time eating there. Service was quick, waiter is knowledgeable about the food. Ambiance was perfect. Place is clean. Highly recommend this establishment!!

Dillon T.

Yelp
Visited De Afghanan on a Thursday night and experienced a taste of Afghan cuisine with some ups and downs. While I enjoyed the cute animal videos playing on the TV, some areas could be improved. The Good: * Bodinjon Borani: The roasted eggplant appetizer with tomato sauce, garlic sour cream, and dried mint was a delightful starter. * The Combination: Murgh & Teka (Chicken & Beef) was beef was marinated well and tasted great! * Hot black chai: a warm comforting and delicious beverage. The Not-So-Good: *Overcooked Chicken: Some of the chicken pieces were dry, and one was completely burnt (see photo). *Missing Menu Item: Sadly, the Sheer Chai was unavailable despite being listed on the menu. *Slow Service: We waited 20 minutes for the bill after asking for it, and after following up we waited another 5 minutes. Price: $36.36 before tip

Yelp
Great food and great service. One of the best afghan food in the bay area. Will go more often since we live in Fremont.

Daniel C.

Yelp
This place is SO good! Been coming here for years and the food is just as good as ever. First of all the service is excellent; servers Masoud and Nawid were just incredible people - super kind and helpful. The cooking staff - David, Yadira, and Judith are also so friendly and talented at what they do. The lamb under rice is always melt off your fork tender. The bolani is crispy and moist and just a little bit spicy, which goes perfectly with the tart yogurt. And the Mandu were delicious and unique from Asian dumplings. Portions are very generous and we always have leftovers. My wife and I love this place and highly recommend it!!!

Lauren C.

Yelp
One of the oldest and longest running Afghan restaurants in the East Bay. Also the most authentic. The restaurant feels like a small hole-in-the-wall place. I really liked the Chaplee Kabob and the Combo Murgh & Teka. Both were delicious. However, service here is AWFUL. Upon sitting down, it took the staff 40 minutes to even acknowledge us and take our order. We had to call the waiter 3 times. Food came at around 20 minutes prior to ordering, which I feel is standard for kabob dishes. Then, it took another 30 minutes for the waiter to clear our tables and give us the check. This also took another 3 tries to call the waiter. If it weren't for the great food, I would have given this place a 1 star for the horrible service experience.

Yelp
What happened?? I miss the old management. Yes, the group that used to greet customers in a cheery manner when they walked in the door. Now, the new crew is pretty curt and businesslike. I walked in a few days ago and business was not even that heavy. Maybe 10 people in the restaurant. You would think that the staff would have time to pay attention to me. Yet the staff barely paid any attention to me. I'm not asking for someone to look lovingly into my eyes. I'm asking for a smile, hello, and how are you? And let's talk about the value of the meal now. The servings are getting smaller for sure. And the prices are going up. We all understand inflation. But I have some point you just taking advantage of it. The only reason I was still recommend this place is because the taste of the food is very good.

Kevin T.

Yelp
De Afghanan is a hidden gem in Fremont! The chicken kebob is incredibly juicy and flavorful, paired perfectly with a side of rice. The lamb is just as tender and delicious. It's a no-frills spot, but the food more than makes up for it. Definitely a must-try for anyone looking for authentic Afghan flavors!

Rocky L.

Yelp
The food is great; however, be sure to look carefully at your check before you pay it. You may get overcharged without anybody informing you. See the attached pictures. I've come here many times in the past and last week I returned to have lunch with my lady, her 11 and 12 year old daughters (well behaved kids who were buried in their iPads and books the entire time), and my mom - 3 adults and 2 kids. We were seated out on the front patio, seemingly ignored for most of our time there with the exception of placing our orders and receiving our food. I had to get up twice to check on the food and to ask for silverware. When the bill came, I paid with my credit card and tipped 15% which I consider to be my minimum based on the quality of service. Only after that did my mom notice that we were already charged 15% for a "large group". Realizing that I tipped a total of 35%, I went back to the waiter and politely requested that he void and reissue the check. He did so without a problem. As the day went on, it really bothered me that I almost tipped 30% for minimal service at best. I referred to a recent picture of the menu on Yelp and saw that, yes - "For parties of 5 or more adults, a 15% gratuity will be charged". However, my party was only 3 adults and 2 kids. What bothered me even more is that the automatic 15% gratuity is calculated off the TAXED amount of the meal and then the 20% that I tipped on top of that is from that inflated amount. [ (Meal + Tax) x 1.15 automatic large party gratuity ] x 1.15 mistaken gratuity on top My gripe is this: 1. Charging for large party of adults, when two are obviously kids. Was this intentional and dishonest or accidental? 2. Not mentioning to me that this 15% automatic gratuity was added, leading me to go ahead and tip on top of that. Again, intentional and dishonest or accidental? I'm okay with human error and oversight, but these dishonest tactics are becoming increasingly common by restaurants. An easy look online or reddit will show stories of other customers grossly over tipping/paying after hidden charges are slid into their bill. De Afghanan, your food is delicious and your restaurant is always occupied. There is no need to resort to under-handed tactics like this to squeeze out a few dollars out of your loyal customers. ***As I write this post and see my receipts from that day, I also realized that they charge a $2 credit card fee that wasn't mentioned anywhere. It's not unheard of, but adds to my point that everybody should be aware of extra charges being slid in when dining here.***

Yelp
It's been 10 years since I've last visited, and the quality, taste and ambiance has not changed. Stepping inside the restaurant you immediately feel warmth while transformed out of the country. My fiancé and I shared the Triple Kabob Murgh, Teka & Chaplee Kabob (substituting chicken for lamb) with white rice and it was just the right amount for 2 starving adults after a long day. They make everything fresh in front of you so the wait could be long however they give you fluffy bread with a dip that I loved & couldn't stop stuffing myself with. The meats were so tasty & juicy with the perfect amount of heat & chargrilled flavored. Our favorite was the beef & second favorite was the sirloin patty. We saw the table next to us devouring a leeks bolani, and we were 5 seconds away from ordering it but our stomach did the talking and we stopped ourselves from over ordering. I'm glad they're still around because I can't wait to come back more often! Parking could be a bit rough as it's only street parking or there's about 5 spots behind the restaurant.

Jeff D.

Yelp
Ordered to go, but the place looks a very nice place to dine in. Had a nice vibe and set up is nice. Only issue I had is I was charged twice and they asked me who charged me the first time the person denied it. Took a while to sort it out and eventually they returned almost the full amount. Funny the first charge they charged me for credit card fee. The second time they didn't but then they only returned the amount excluding the fee. It's ok though. I ordered last minute and was kinda in a hurry and food came out pretty quickly. Their Kebabs there are super good so I didn't kid too much.

Jenn H.

Yelp
We dined at De Afghanan Cuisine on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30-3 pm. All the seats were filled, but luckily some patrons were leaving. So we waited a minimum of 10 minutes to be seated indoors. My party and I ordered the following: 1. Bolani - Yum! It came out pipping hot and fresh served with a spicy-ish yogurt and cilantro chutney. We had to contain ourselves from shoveling it down our mouths because it was scalding hot. Flatbread stuffed with mashed potato and leek? say less. We had leftovers and it tasted even better reheated in an airfry. 2. Combination Kabob of Chicken & Teka - This consisted of charbroiled chicken and beef served with basmati rice (white or brown basmati rice were available options), cucumber salad, and Afghan bread. Both meats were so tender, juicy, and flavorful. It's definitely one of those meals I wish never ended. My only complaint would be the Afghan bread. It would have been better if it was served warm. Reg temp bread is aight, but I guess it's a preferential thing. I took all the leftover bread and baked it later that night. So much tastier! 3. Chopan Kabob aka Charbroiled lamb (with bone) - My husband ordered this ginormous meal. I'm not a lamb person, but I tried a piece and it was better than I anticipated. Lamb is typically too gamy for my taste, but the chopan kabob didn't taste gamy to me! The portion size seemed huge. The husband finished the entire plate and then knocked out for a few hours after his meal. lol Regarding the service - it was okay. It took a while for all of our main plates to come out, so having an appetizer was a good stomach tickler. Also, my husband had to get up and ask for plates and utensils, while we just stared at our bolani. We couldn't just pick it up and eat it because again, it was so freaking hot! Overall, the food was amazing and I especially loved the cilantro chutney that paired so well with everything. highly recommend!

Hatem R.

Yelp
We had dinner here and ordered combination plates with beef and chicken and also had the Lamb shank with brown rice, carrots and raisins. We came in on a Friday night and without reservation and the place was packed and took a whole to get it for a large party. The food was amazing and service was great I also love the special decor including artwork and vintage doors and windows. Loved the ambience.

Aaron C.

Yelp
I really look forward to eating DeAfghanan. The ambience is nice and this was my first time dining in a few years (I ordered takeout during the pandemic). The boneless lamb kabobs were pretty good. Maybe it's more my tastes, though I find the rice a touch on the bland side so I mix in the chutney sauce. I suppose I added a lot because the waiter noted how empty the container was. Google Maps will take you to an alley and there are four spots there. If you keep going there is a private lot that says it's a towaway zone. It said the lot belonged to someone else though I don't know how much they enforce it.

Heena C.

Yelp
On a bustling Saturday evening, the restaurant buzzed with activity. Despite all indoor tables being occupied, we opted for an outdoor seat due to a 30-minute wait. Despite the December chill, the experience proved worthwhile. Securing attention for our order took time, but the savory bolani and generously sized portions compensated for the delay. The doogh, a fermented yogurt drink, was a highlight. Service aimed to be attentive, though occasional nudges were necessary. Overall, a positive experience, but next time, I'll aim for a less hectic hour to savor my meal indoors without concerns about food temperature.

William P.

Yelp
We absolutely adore this place and have visited numerous times. Their lamb on rice and bolani are standouts, though everything on the menu is fantastic! A big thank you to Chef Analí and her brother Angel David for creating such delicious food. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is wonderfully family-oriented, fostering great conversation. This restaurant offers not just a meal but a memorable dining experience. We're grateful for every visit and look forward to many more!

Michelle ..

Yelp
Great place for dinner! Love the eggplant appetizer & the mantu. Will definitely come again. We ordered the lamb entree and all the food was out within 20 mins.

Priyanka K.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the Bolani (bread stuffed with spiced potatoes) with the sauces. The sauces at the table - green and red - were incredible. Nothing like I've had before. The Bolani is a huuuuge serving - you can eat it as a main course. Then we ordered curry and rice. I had red bean curry with rice and my partner had chicken curry with rice: both were good, not stellar. My favorite part about the restaurant was sitting in the area where the seats are on the floor! It felt homely and enjoyable. Service was friendly and fast. Parking in the plaza is tight but not impossible. There's an ice cream store next door called Nirvanah which serves good ice cream. I am deducting one star because I was not a fan of the containers they use for take out - they use Styrofoam containers. This material is a known hazard for health and environment and I don't support places that use them. So it feels like this will be my first and last time visiting them unless they explore other more environmentally friendly to-go containers.

Kham P.

Yelp
Came on a Wednesday for lunch (8 of us coworkers) right when open around 11:30-ish. Small place with very limited parking (in the back or on the streets). Food was good, and price was decent. But the service could use some improvement. When first entered, the guy pointing us to our table could at least smile and say "hi, welcome", etc., but nothing (no facial expression). Later, same guy took our orders, gave us bread and water, then disappeared as we await our food for the next 30-40 minutes! No one came to check if we needed more bread, more water, or anything other than (guessing) the owner or manager dropped by real quick (right before paying our bill) to ask how's our day and if the food was good?

Mary S.

Yelp
The inside restaurant is a health hazard for lack of an AC or any air circulation. No matter when you come. No windows, either. The poor staff are struggling to work and us customers we can't even sit inside due to the heat....it is like an oven, and whoever is in charge doesn't seem to care. The staff look miserable - as if ready to write a note and say 'save us.'' Food is good - mainly their kebobs and bolani are fantastic. If you can tolerate and overcome eating in a stuffy room, with no circulation, sad and overworked employees, then enjoy.

Ann M.

Yelp
I ordered food and once I got home I realized the chicken was RAW. I called to tell them that my chicken was raw and instead of apologizing the gentleman I spoke to over the phone decided to argue with us.. So here you go raw and uncooked.

Matthew P.

Yelp
The food was excellent and affordable. My friends were new to Afghan food and they were all impressed by how good it was.

Jalil S.

Yelp
Good food. Good Ambience. Service can be improved. Don't park in front of the restaurant. I don't want you to get the traffic violation ticket the way I did.

Andy P.

Yelp
Hands down the most delicious Bolani and Lamb Kabobs around town. They're so consistent each and every time I go.

Arwa A.

Yelp
As a middle eastern, their food is one of the best. However, if they are busy, there is room for mistakes that could be minor like getting the wrong type of rice or medium cooked vs. well done. Similarly, I doubt that they are mean purposely; if they are not under stress and you speak to them without attitude, I am sure they are nice. I have seen them work with and without pressure so I could understand how they may come across as mean. The place is great; I did my marriage Walemah (10 ppl gathered to eat) about 10 yrs ago. It is also clean and offers variety of delicious food. I am not picky eater but I loved everything including their desserts. Two things: don't park at the entrance no matter what and be patient to be served.

Bethany W.

Yelp
I only have good things to say about this place. I come for the pumpkin bolani and the lamb dishes. It's been a while since I've come here and it somehow tastes even better than I remember it. Both the rice specialties that have lamb are so good, ESPECIALLY the sabzi challow. The lamb is so tender.....I cannot praise this dish enough. Just eat here and have your eyes opened.

Mini M.

Yelp
I came with my family to the restaurant 50 mile drive and man am I soo upset at my self for taking half of my familys day thinking it will be like other afghan restaurants deafghan cuisine food was a 1 out of 10 Customer service was very abnormal me and my family was given dirty looks each time we requested anything , we felt like we were not in america but a dirty part in afghanistan especially from the owner very very mean I'll give them 0 out of 10 for there service Boland potato was ok Chicken was ok Rice and all meats taste old I've been throwing up since I've ate here today Wishing I've never crossed such a long distance but made a big mistake This is My number 5102001266

Yelp
My how the mighty have fallen. DeAfghan used to be one of the best spots in Fremont. Albeit the service was always crappy they made up with really good food. My past 2 visits here have been all but disappointing. I always go with the lamb kabob w/ brown rice. Last 2x ive been here the lamb has been dried out and the meat quality has gone down. The cucumber salad has been dingy looking almost as it wasnt made fresh. The eggplant has always been on the oily side but today it was just swimming in oil. All this while the prices have gone up by almost 25%. I have to find a new spot to get my Afghan food fix now.

Mike P.

Yelp
The food is FANTASTIC! I have eaten here several times. The meat is high quality, very tender.

Sara T.

Yelp
Mmm food is so good here. If you never tried Afghan food and searching for an Afghan restaurant then hurry and drive to Fremont! Food is super authentic here. Everything is flavorful and tasty! We ordered two plates: the combination plate with chicken & beef and the spicy grilled ground sirloin patty. Both orders came with a generous side of rice and salad. There's even a basket of bread. There's a container of green sauce on the table, make sure you add some of that green sauce to everything!! Definitely recommend coming here on a hungry stomach because portions are big. It's the perfect place for lunch or dinner and perfect plates to share with a group of family/friends. Interior is nice and you can even get a peek of the kitchen. There's even outdoor seating out front. Parking lot in the back. I will return to try more food!

Yelp
Alright honest review time . So came here after some time. We showed up after maghrib at ICF, and the place was already packed. الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ there was somebody leaving so we got a seat quite fast (party over 5) . We ordered bolani first and mantu so it came first while we decided what to order The environment was good, although small, but atleast no music which was great and nothing bad playing on the TVs inside and their volume wasn't up so it didn't bother anybody from their conversations. The food came after about 30-40min but that's expected since the food was fresh and the meat was extremely tender and really good. Like I was surprised how tender their chicken and lamb was, the chaplee and beef were flavored well. 0 complaints there. The green tea was good, the black tea was different and not what I was used to (I was comparing to doodh patti chai) but not complaining. The brown rice wasn't as good as places like salaang pass used to be, but it was still better than other afghan places I've tried or seen. The salad was OK. It was good, not sure when the cucumbers and all were chopped up maybe earlier in the day but it did not taste stale so that was good The staff was really nice. In my order I had a triple combo plate and swapped out chapli, chicken, and beef for lamb, but they forgot to bring the chicken so the staff brought a side order of chicken for me after at no extra cost. Yea the place is a bit pricey but *shrugs* the food was hella good though lol Allahuma barik. I'd recommend adding Pepsi to their soda options if they can lol

Yelp
Almost empty Sat 12pm. Started to fill up around 12:30pm. Got live fire going on, cool interior. Sat next to door and read the framed news article about the historic 17th century door brought from Afghanistan. Mantu - delicious beef dumplings, this was popular dish that I saw others order Kado borani - thought it was going to be small chunks but was a whole piece of roasted squash, soft and naturally sweet Quabili Pallow - very generous pile of rice (bit oily), lamb fell off the bone $1 extra charge for credit card, paid cash for no charge. Entry to rear lot is next to restaurant but have to drive slow or else will miss it. Street parking available.

Yelp
Food was simple, cucumber salad was bland, and there is a lack of fitness with the presentation. I get that this may be authentic, but I found service and execution to be below-average. Also, the power went out twice, so the room went dark and the smoke filled the dining room. Very unpleasant dining experience with mediocre food. Avoid.

Yelp
If I could rate this restaurant solely on the food I ordered tonight it would be four stars. I got the lamb kabob and it was *delicious.* However, the service was terrible and filled with a lot of indifference/arrogance. My friend and I waited a long time for our food and noticed people who arrived after us were served first. Additionally, the server was very rude and when I tried to ask if they had a preference for a certain dish they completely disregarded me. When I asked for my check they were rude and dismissive. Love the food but won't eat in at this restaurant because of the rude and arrogant service.

Yelp
Great food. Leek Bolani is a must have. Meats are consistently good. Chaplee is the best here.

Yelp
Came here for the first time to try Afghani food probably for the first time as well! It's not a big restaurant but I was glad that we got a table right away. There was another store next to it that sells takeouts I believe, which was kinda confusing. I got the combo plate with lamb, chicken and beef: big servicing size, absolutely tasty (I think chicken was my fav out of the three). We also had the zucchini pancake which tasted so healthy and oddly addicting. I would love to try the other fillings for the pancake later!

Yelp
De Afghanan is arguably one of the most delectable Afghan restaurants in the Bay Area. Whenever I visit, I make sure to order the Mantu, Chapli Kabob, Potato Bolani, and brown rice. Amongst these options, my personal favorite is the eggplant, as it offers a nourishing and delightful taste. The restaurant tends to have a steady flow of customers, but there is also ample seating available. Whether you're looking for a casual meal or a celebratory gathering, this place is highly recommended to all.

Yelp
Despite what Yelp and Google says, this restaurant is closed between lunch and dinner. They open at 5pm for dinner, and they close sometime before 3:30pm for lunch. The food is good, and the service is not bad (slow during the dinner rush). I can recommend the potato bolani. I like the sour cream(?) on the mantu. My partner got the combination murgh and teka kabob--he said that the meat was dry and the rice was okay. They spray each table with lysol after each party leaves. I appreciate the health protocol, but it does leave a strong smell for surrounding people to inhale. Also, our table didn't seem to be as clean as it should have if it was wiped down like the others. I appreciate the Afghan decor.

Yelp
The food here is good and portions are huge. I definitely recommend the chaplee kabob. I also enjoyed the leek bolani but it is big so I recommend ordering it for a group. Aush was okay but not my favorite. They ran out of mantu the last time I was here so will need to go back again to try them!

Yelp
Got the trio platter with white rice. It was ok, the meat Pattie was probably the better tasting meat. The chicken is soft and the beef is tender but didn't like it as much as the patty. Take out only takes cash.
