Yelp
The food is great; however, be sure to look carefully at your check before you pay it. You may get overcharged without anybody informing you. See the attached pictures.
I've come here many times in the past and last week I returned to have lunch with my lady, her 11 and 12 year old daughters (well behaved kids who were buried in their iPads and books the entire time), and my mom - 3 adults and 2 kids.
We were seated out on the front patio, seemingly ignored for most of our time there with the exception of placing our orders and receiving our food. I had to get up twice to check on the food and to ask for silverware.
When the bill came, I paid with my credit card and tipped 15% which I consider to be my minimum based on the quality of service. Only after that did my mom notice that we were already charged 15% for a "large group". Realizing that I tipped a total of 35%, I went back to the waiter and politely requested that he void and reissue the check. He did so without a problem.
As the day went on, it really bothered me that I almost tipped 30% for minimal service at best. I referred to a recent picture of the menu on Yelp and saw that, yes - "For parties of 5 or more adults, a 15% gratuity will be charged". However, my party was only 3 adults and 2 kids.
What bothered me even more is that the automatic 15% gratuity is calculated off the TAXED amount of the meal and then the 20% that I tipped on top of that is from that inflated amount.
[ (Meal + Tax) x 1.15 automatic large party gratuity ] x 1.15 mistaken gratuity on top
My gripe is this:
1. Charging for large party of adults, when two are obviously kids. Was this intentional and dishonest or accidental?
2. Not mentioning to me that this 15% automatic gratuity was added, leading me to go ahead and tip on top of that. Again, intentional and dishonest or accidental?
I'm okay with human error and oversight, but these dishonest tactics are becoming increasingly common by restaurants. An easy look online or reddit will show stories of other customers grossly over tipping/paying after hidden charges are slid into their bill.
De Afghanan, your food is delicious and your restaurant is always occupied. There is no need to resort to under-handed tactics like this to squeeze out a few dollars out of your loyal customers.
***As I write this post and see my receipts from that day, I also realized that they charge a $2 credit card fee that wasn't mentioned anywhere. It's not unheard of, but adds to my point that everybody should be aware of extra charges being slid in when dining here.***
