The Best Restaurants Near NYC’s Early Voting Places - New York - The Infatuation

"Elmhurst has a ton of amazing Thai restaurants, but Dek Sen is one of the most celebratory-feeling, mostly because of the dessert. Their milo sizzling roti, for example, comes with ice cream in the center, and topped with corn flakes, whipped cream, marshmallows, and chocolate sauce in an extremely hot cast iron pan." - hannah albertine, nikko duren

The food tastes great, but the portion sizes for $25 are disappointing. For that price, I expected more, especially when other places offer better value. Just a heads-up for anyone considering having their takeaways here.

Ordered some take out yesterday and can't stop thinking about how good it was! I got their Pad Thai, it was standard and delicious. The service was quick and friendly! Walking into the restaurant to pick up my food showed they have a fun and authentic ambiance as well! I will be ordering from here again!

Google
This is some of the best Thai food I have had in LA served by some of the friendliest people. I have probably eaten here upwards of 15+ times. The lunch specials are so affordably priced, generously portioned and quickly served. The hot sauce they make themselves is delicious and I’ve yet to have a bad menu item. I don’t leave many reviews but this is truly a favorite spot that deserves all of the love and patronage the neighborhood can offer.

Google
Hands down, one of the best Thai restaurants in the Valley. It's a hidden gem where you'd least expect it. The dine-in experience isn't anything to write about, but their takeout is absolutely worth it. You won't be disappointed. The portions are generous, the prices are super reasonable, and the food is flavorful. I highly recommend ordering directly through their website. Not only will you be supporting a small local business, but you'll also save around 20% compared to ordering through Uber Eats or other delivery apps.

This review is overdue since we dined here about 3 weeks ago I wanted to give a shout out to the young lady in the front who was so sweet and provided superior service. The ambiance is lovely ! I really enjoyed dining here, peaceful and inviting. The food was delicious for the most part and I would highly recommend this restaurant if you have a craving for Thai Food. 🥗🍖 🍛

Google
If you haven’t tried Dek Sen’s…what are you waiting for?!?! The food is fresh, plentiful, and served steaming hot. The Kee Mow is great, and if you haven’t had the perfectly crispy Hell’s Wings, you’ll need an order of those. The star of our show today was the Moo Palo, the most melt-in-your-mouth pork belly I’ve had in a while. The staff is friendly and the environment is very clean. Absolutely adding this to our lunch and dinner rotation!

Google
This is my go-to take out place! Everything is delicious, I can never make up my mind about what to get and always end up ordering food that will last me for days. The ladies who work here are the sweetest. Really a gem of a place!

Dania Pineda

Google
Would highly recommend this restaurant! It is a small business that always has friendly staff and delicious food. The restaurant is always clean and all of their meals are delicious (our favorite dishes are the wasabi noodles and kee mow). Price is very affordable and their website is very convenient.

Yelp
Highly recommended! There's no shortage of Thai restaurants in the SFV, but some are must try places, and this is one of them. It's a small space with several tables for dine in. If you plan to dine in, you order at the counter and the food will be brought to your table. I ordered my usual Thai food orders: a noodle dish, curry, and fried tofu. The pad see ew (pad c u) was delicious and not too sweet. It also comes with a generous amount of protein (beef). I had their red curry which was flavorful. Their fried tofu was on point and their sauce was a bit different from other places. It was more vinegar and light, rather than the usual thick/sweet sauce that I was used to. Looking forward to trying their other dishes like their Khao Soi! There is street parking in front of the store and there is a back parking lot.

Yelp
I walked in and they gave me great customer service! That immediately made me just want to order! Food was great . Everything I ordered was made quick and with love! Pact with flavor

Yelp
What are we supposed do now that White Lotus Season 3 ended? EAT LOTS OF THAI FOOD. Dek Sen's lunch specials make it easy! Honestly when was the last time you saw a $12 lunch special in LA??? I was beyond pleased with the $12 green curry lunch special I got. They also gave me a 5% online order discount and free crab dumplings because I ordered more than $30. They actually forgot to include the free dumplings in the takeout bag but they fixed it very fast. Friendly and kind staff. The restaurant is casual, with colorful decor. Also there is a parking lot behind the restaurant which makes things very smooth because the street is pretty busy and it's sometimes hard to find parking. THE BEAT DEAL EVER. And the food was delicious!! (I wouldn't be leaving a good review no matter how cheap the food is unless the food is actually tastyyy)

Yelp
Best decision to try this place. If you want some really good fish, HIGHLY recommend getting the pla ka pow spicy. Perfect flavors and little kick. The yellow curry was creamy and light enough. Mixed stir fry veggies were really good and had a sweet hint to it. The employees were very nice and parking was easy with a lot in the back and street parking in the front. I ordered online for pick up and it was ready and the exact time it estimated. For sure adding this as a staple I will be going back to.

Yelp
I was honestly scared to try this place because when I went to Rustic Spoon it was very mid. But Dek Sen rules! Been going out to eat alone and it is a very comfortable cafe to do that in. I didn't try enough on the menu to give a proper rating but from the meal and service I had alone I would give it five stars. The cashier also randomly came up to me to ask if I wanted a refill and I thought that was sweet because it's not really a sit down restaurant. I want to come back and try things on the drink menu!

Yelp
We've been coming down to Van Nuys for work a lot and I've wanted to try this place for a while. Glad we did. What an awesome little small restaurant. They have so many options to choose from. The place is very cozy and quaint. It's very bright in color. The lady behind the counter was super sweet, helpful, and really friendly. She definitely knew what she was talking about when it came to spice level because she got it spot on for us! We ordered the sole fish fillet, which I got steamed instead of fried. We also ordered, the spicy fried rice, and the kee mow with beef. Even though we only ordered three dishes it was a lot of food! The portion sizes are great at this place. Now onto the food, the soul fish fillet was melt in your mouth tender, and I dipped it in the green sauce that it came with and it was absolutely amazing. Gave it the right amount of spice and a little bit of sour and it was incredible!!! My husband loved the spicy fried rice. We got it the highest spice level, and he said it was super flavorful the perfect amount of spicy and all-around delicious. The kee mow I had so much sauce and it tasted like genuine Thai street food. We ordered it medium spicy, and the level was perfect. The noodles were soft. The beef was tender. They had so many other things that we definitely wanna try and we can't wait to go back. Thanks Dek Sen's for an amazing first visit. Be seeing you soon!

Yelp
We came here while driving home from Santa Barbara and happened to be in the area when we were planning to pick up desserts at Creme Caramel LA which shares the same parking lot. Overall, we liked the food, especially for the Lunch Special prices. It's not amazing Thai food, and you can certainly get better, especially in Thai Town or even in my local area, but it's solid. We got the Green Curry, Eggplant Basil, and the Pad Thai. I think the worst dish was the Pad Thai since it was too sweet, but the others were good. We would probably go here again if we were in the area and looking for Thai food, but I wouldn't go out of my way. Nonetheless, a decent place with nice service.

Yelp
Simply the best Thai food I've had in a while. I felt like I was transported to Bangkok. Affordable lunch special packing lots of flavor and a complete meal with rice, salad and a main. The sweeter customer service and someone in the kitchen has sweet hands ! Sooooo good !!
google avatar

Neva W.

Yelp
One of our favorite takeout places. Love the wings, speedy service and cute vibe. I love supporting this place. My go-to order is chicken pad Thai and steamed veggies with chicken. I've tried a number of items and they're all great. Tip - park in the back. Pop by creme caramel for dessert. Make sure they're open!

Yelp
I stopped by for lunch two weeks ago and ordered the pad Thai lunch special. Service was excellent and the ambiance was nice and quiet (I arrived right after they opened and it started to get busy within a few minutes). The food was good and fresh, and I kind of regret not trying out more items on the menu despite the fact that my meal was pretty filling. I overheard two different customers ordering the dumplings and was curious to see how good they were. Maybe next time!

Tuisdi M.

Yelp
I love this place. They're so nice and it's adorable inside. The prices are great plus they always have good deals. The food is always fresh and a good portion size. I get the veggie stir fry which has a good mix of veggies and comes with rice (I recommend it with their hot sauce). I'm vegetarian and can be picky and this place has become one of my go-tos.

Yelp
Ordered a Noodle Tom Kha with Tofu requested it to be Vegan as it says you can on the menu and I specified it that way in my order and I found a piece of beef in my soup.

Yelp
Three things! 1. Dek Sen's is the friendliest establishment with the most delicious Thai - classic dishes and street food alike - from the sweetest owners. 2. Their Thai cooking class is FANTASTIC!! It's 45 minutes of you and your partner IN THE KITCHEN making three dishes that I could have only dreamed of getting to craft on my own. Miaow is the best teacher and host, and you'll leave having had so much fun and SO many leftovers to keep enjoying! Perfect for dates, friends, or as a gift. I have never felt like a chef more than with this experience! 3. The local Thai spot that everyone should be lucky enough to have. You'll be greeted with a smile and wowed by the food. Try the tom yum, shrimp egg rolls, and beef fried rice!
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Delicious food! A sister Thai spot to the Rustic Spoon restaurant, Dek Sen's focuses more on Thai street food rather than the classic Thai dishes all know and love. We used their app to order as they have a rewards system. You can only accumulate rewards via this app, so if you love this place, skip the 3rd party ordering system and order directly in-app! We ordered the green curry with chicken (served with a tiny side of rice), Kee Mow (flat rice noodles in a drunken house sauce), and Moo Palo (braised pork belly). All were savory and flavorful, but our faves were the curry and pork belly. We took our order to-go, but the staff were really nice when we showed up. Interior and exterior are colorful! Street parking avail out front, but there's a lot in the back behind the building.

Yelp
Really enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. We like Rustic Spoon in Valley Village so decided to try this place with all the positive reviews. It's labeled "Asian fusion" but it's mostly Thai food with some other Asian foods mixed in. I wish they got a little more creative with it but overall still really loved it. Tom Ka Coconut Soup: 10/10 got it with shrimp. Perfect mix of coconut and lime. Wasabi Udon House Noodles: 9/10 comfort food. The thick noodles weren't over cooked. The sauce was sweet and salty - I liked the pickled carrots and cabbage mixed in. Got it with beef. I didn't really get wasabi from this. Kimchi fried rice: 10/10 great flavor, comes with a fried egg on top and big chunks of kimchi. We ate inside, they have about 4 tables. Clean inside and casual vibe. Lots of people order to-go but you can definitely eat inside. There's parking in the back!!! The ladies were super friendly and the food came out very fast.

Yelp
I stopped in after an appointment. Food was delicious and freshly made. They make their own hot sauce which was tasty. Customer service was amazing. Super friendly and even showed me where she was from on the big wall map. Will come in again to try different items when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Roy V.

Yelp
I ordered online and got a 5% discount for doing so. The food was ready and had some extra time so it was able to eat in the restaurant itself. It has an interesting sliding door instead of a regular door up front. All the employees are tie so you know you're getting the real thing. I had the fish sauce chicken wings which were pretty good. They could have had a stronger fish sauce flavor, and the wings were quite small. Being Thai I like to have everything taste like fish sauce! In fact they gave me a side of fish sauce so I could dip my food in there. I also got Thai fried rice with added shrimp. Now this was what I remember my mom making for me. It was really good.
google avatar

Lady B.

Yelp
I don't get the 5 star reviews at allllll... maybe because it's hard to find decent Thai food in this area. Every dish we ordered was very greasy and underwhelming in terms of authentic Thai flavors. The noodles were overly soggy, which to me, is a sin with any Asian noodle dishes and the pork belly was hard and dry in some spots- definitely not fresh. Won't be back.

Paolo I.

Yelp
It's just great, the food never disappoints, so rich in flavor. The staff is super friendly and the food is always ready in time.
google avatar

Tifany D.

Yelp
Fast service and affordable good food! I enjoy that they don't offer too many options as an indecisive person who wants to try everything. Their spicy levels are no joke though, as I ordered mild and the heat got me. Portions are generous. We got 2 dishes for 2 people and could not finish everything. Ambiance is very casual. You can grab your own water after ordering your food. If you're looking for a quick bite and craving Thai, I would recommend Dek Sen.

Michael B.

Yelp
What an amazing experience! We had an amazing cashier/server, who was incredibly helpful and pleasant. I had possibly the best green curry of my life, it was a lunch special. It was just the right consistency, a bit smooth and creamy with a bit of asian eggplant added as well. Huge flavor, good spice, it then became perfectly enhanced with their homemade hot sauce! The egg rolls were super crispy, and very flavorful. Portion sizes was just right. It's a small but well air conditioned and well decorated dining room. You just can't do it much better! Thank you!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were driving by, and their sign caught our eye, so we made a spontaneous decision to try them out. Well, our decision was the best one! Their staff was super friendly and didn't mind answering our questions regarding their dishes and what they recommend we try as first timers. We got the Kee Maw and the BBQ Chicken lunch special, and they were delicious! You also get a free drink when spending more than $20 so we got a fizzy lemonade! Honestly great small place. We will definitely come again!
google avatar

Marla B.

Yelp
Food was decent. Scaled down menu. At Delivery. I will probably order again at some point..,
google avatar

Yelp
Dek Sen's is an offshoot of Rustic Spoon, which I've never been to but looks amazing and is a little pricey. Dek Sen's serves about 10 -12 dishes and keeps it simple. Everything is about 13-14 bucks. Not bad but not dirt cheap... 3 things will rum you more than $45 after everything. That being said, they make the best noodles in town... maybe anywhere. The sauce is deep and satisfying not thin and the same as everyone else's. They're darker... richer. Flavors are intense! Soooo good. We had a rice dish that was also killer. They don't have any salads or vegetable dishes. As I said, a simple menu focusing on mains and noodles. You've gotta try this place.
google avatar

Patricia B.

Yelp
Note: Please slide the door :) Very friendly, low key restaurant with a small seating area. Lots of plants (although some of them are fake). You order at the register and the staff brings your food to you. The cashier/server had a very sweet and helpful demeanor. I ordered the Thai tea, fried dumplings and the seafood version of the coconut soup. It was very good but I should have ordered shrimp instead. I do not know my seafood ingredients but it was fish, I think mussels, fake crableg meat, and shrimp. Plus lots of mushrooms. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. Not sure about parking because I did walk there.
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
First of all, I love this place! This time I had the Pad Thai chicken. Dek Sens uses very thin noodles like the real Pad Thai I found in Thailand. Haven't found anything as authentic in the valley! The flavors are sweet, salty, and sour- my 3 favorite Ss! I thought I would need a lime wedge but nope. I asked for crushed peanuts on the side, as their Pad Thai doesn't come with it unless you ask. They're quite accommodating! They don't give you a lot of garnish beside green onion and cilantro (not for me!), but that's fine because I don't need the filler. The service is top notch-- attentive and friendly. You can order and pay at the counter, or online. They bring the food to you at the table. Go support this local gem!
google avatar

Tommy T.

Yelp
Everything on the menu here is delicious. The staff are lovely and the ambiance is warm, hip and inviting. This is absolutely a neighborhood gem.
google avatar

Aly R.

Yelp
Some of the BEST Thai food I've had in LA in a long time. Food is always fresh and super tasty. Their wasabi noodles are amazing, could eat them everyday. We just recently discovered them and have only tried a few menu items but looking forwards to trying all of it! Highly recommend. And yes, I WOULD go out of my way to eat here!
google avatar

Sheila P.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, we could not have loved this place more. We are in town from Portland, OR, a city with a LOT of very good Thai food, and this was better than most -- dinner here was absolutely stellar, and it came out incredibly quickly. And the service was warm and friendly and absolutely lovely: the people were kind and generous and helpful, and they just made our whole evening. Could not recommend more highly.
google avatar

X S.

Yelp
Kee Mow My family and have been coming more often, we like the little cute place. Food is good and the people who works there nice. Very clean too.

Hiral P.

Yelp
We came for the lunch special, which I think is a great deal overall--you get a good amount of food for $12. I chose the egg roll as my side, and it was quite delicious. For my entrée, I had the green curry, which was just okay--nothing mind-blowing. The lady taking our order made it seem like the mild option would still have some spice, so I went with that, but it wasn't spicy at all, which was a bit disappointing.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Recently picked up an order here. Easy to order, and fast pickup. The egg rolls were very good, but the sauce really made them awesome. The drunken noodles were tasty the first night but a little greasy the next day. Still overall, we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Dena G.

Yelp
Rustic Spoon now has an empire! I love all their locations: Lankershim/Moorpark and Whitsett/Riverside are my two faves. But this spot has the best wings I've ever eaten! And I'm not even a wing person!
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
I'm not sure what Rustic Spoon did but holy...WOW this place is the best Thai Food I've had in LA.... Hands down. From the soups to the noodles, rice, THE PORTIONS?! Absolutely nailed it. Great customer service, really friendly. Lunch specials for the win and love how it's next door to the laundry mat. Grab lunch while your clothes are washing. Throw out your sad Chipotle and support your local small businesses. This place needs a line around the block! We'll be coming back A LOT.

Jesse F.

Yelp
Customer service is amazing so sweet Food is soooooo good I mean it And mango with sticky rice is just the best Love the place and will be back
google avatar

Susy S.

Yelp
Fried veggie dumplings were delicious.Main dishes also comes with rice and are decent portions for the price. May have to try more.
google avatar

Jon S.

Yelp
All for $27 after tax. I was surprised how much food this was. I took the wings home to roast up later! This is a local gem! Family owned, great service, delicious ingredients, and competitive pricing! Will be back to try combo#1 and #2 soon on my lunch breaks! Parking is in rear as well.
google avatar

Stuart W.

Yelp
Easily my new #1 Thai Restaurant, I live a block from the Rustic Spoon in Valley Village and not a fan of their food. Do not let the name scare you, it's a 3rd location called Dek Sen which is owned by Rustic Spoon. The flavors are so unique, their dishes you won't find anywhere else. The noodles were so fat & chewy! I started off with their Green Mussels and Kee Mo Beef, be sure to try their tasty hot sauce on the side too. Now I can't wait to return to try the rest of their menu and already know what I want to try, Kimchi Fried Rice & Wasabi Warm Noodles.
google avatar

Luci G.

Yelp
I have long been a fan of their parent restaurant Rustic Spoon (Valley Village location) and was looking forward to trying Dek Sen. My sweet sister ordered dinner to be delivered for us and I was even more impressed than I expected to be. Every bite was a burst of rich and exciting flavors. Run, don't walk to this Gem!!!!
google avatar

Panissra N.

Yelp
Love the fizzy lychee lemonade . The fried rice is tasty too. Recommend. Nice set up and little gift shop from Thailand Suvanior

Daniel D.

Yelp
This Thai spot is a hidden gem. They do everything right from good portions, high-quality ingredients, great service, on-time pick up times, friendly staff. They have a cool take out window that you can walk right up to and pick up your food. There's places to sit inside and they have free gifts for patrons like fresh lemons. I've been here a few times and each time everything has exceeded my expectations
google avatar

Elysse F.

Yelp
I've heard a lot of good things about this place and I finally got to try for myself. Delicious food. Fresh with the right amount of spice. Good friendly service and a comfortable vibe.
google avatar

Michelle J.

Yelp
I stumbled onto this place by accident, I was going to the fried fish restaurant next door that was supposed to be opened but was closed. I walked inside of Dek Sen and was greeted by two of the most friendly women that worked there. The restaurant was cute and clean. Now the food was extremely good. I ordered the Pad Thai with and shrimp great flavor just wish it had a little more sauce. The dumplings made me wish I ordered two orders instead of one. The garlic fish wings were good could use a little more garlic as and fish sauce. I will be going back for more dumplings and I want to try something new.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
If you blink you'll miss it but totally worth turning around. The flavors are incredible. I got the Kee Mow (think drunken noodles) with beef and the spicy fried rice with chicken. If you like spice, the "spicy" does not disappoint. If not and you want to go the milder route you'll still love the flavors. I wish I could have tried one of everything. I ate in. The restaurant was small but clean and the gal (very cute btw) was very nice and checked up on me to make sure everything was good. I will definitely be back the next time in town!
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
Probably one of the best Thai spots in the valley. My wife and I have tried a lot of different Thai restaurants, but this place stands out as one of the best. Every dish we've tried has been so full of flavor and all of their house made sauces are great. Definitely get their house chili sauce! The kimchi fried rice, chicken sa te, and the moo palo are some of my favorites. But, all of the noodle dishes are also excellent and they seem to keep adding to the menu. The employees are always so warm and friendly and if you order through their online system, you generally get some kind of discount or free appetizer from time to time. Highly recommend this place.

Mena A.

Yelp
Food was great! Fresh taste and good amount of meat in dishes. The people in the restaurant are also very friendly. This is our new Thai Place.
google avatar

Pongvasu B.

Yelp
My usual dinner spot. Their thai chili is always to die for, spicy, sour and savory! Their pad thai noodles is chewy and savory and i like the real thai style egg on top of the noodles. Meow always give us the best service. She is always on top of things. The green curry fried rice is always my go to! must try! The ambience is nice and cozy. A chill little place for a quick lunch or dinner!
