Vegan & traditional pan dulce, tortas, breakfast burritos, coffee

"Open since 1991 on a stretch of Figueroa now crowded with pricey newcomers, this family-run bakery stays unpretentious and busy with stellar pan dulce, conchas, and refreshing drinks like aguas frescas, café de olla, cappuccinos, and cold brew. Savory options—breakfast burritos, chilaquiles, and the open-faced mollete with beans, cheese, crema, and salsa—are some of the best deals in town, with everything made in-house. Must-try dishes: tortas, conchas, puerquitos, and breakfast burritos." - Rebecca Roland
"A longtime neighborhood bakery on Figueroa near 55th Avenue that has been operating since 1990, serving pan dulces alongside sandwiches, breakfasts, coffee drinks, and whatever locals are craving. The team prepares cinnamon- and piloncillo-laced puerquitos, breakfast burritos, traditional conchas, guayaba turnovers, and an iced pinole (roasted ground corn) latte, and a handful of plant-based conchas are also available. The bakery collaborates with neighboring businesses too, for example preparing challah for the nearby sandwich shop Jeff’s Table using tangzhong. While newer spots are tempting, this is presented as a decades-old community hub worth seeking out. — Mona Holmes, editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest" - Eater Staff
"Delicias Bakery & Some does a lot of things (and then some). This Highland Park spot is great for a morning cafecito and mollete, but the long list of vegan options is why we keep this panadería in our back pocket. Pretty much everything can be made plant-based, from the tiny coconut flans to the fluffy birotes in their breakfast tortas and the big, pillowy conchas that get dunked into the coffee from Delicias espresso bar. Expect traditional concha flavors like pinole, chocolate, and strawberry, plus occasional specials like matcha and lavender." - sylvio martins
"This 32-year-old Highland Park bakery serves a vegan torta milanesa in addition to its line of plant-based pan dulce. The torta is prepared with pounded-flat vegan “meat,” along with queso fresco, chipotle mayonnaise, avocado, lettuce, cabbage, jalapeños, red onion, and tomato. Order one of the aguas frescas and the tres leches cake to go along with the sandwich. Final note: This family-operated business has been open since 1991, long before the trendy spots swarmed in. Head there and give Delicias some support." - Mona Holmes
