Devil Dawgs is Chicago’s damn great, Vienna Beef hot dog stand, with locations in South Loop, Wicker Park, Downtown Chicago, and Lakeview. They cram their stands with modern takes on Chicago menu classics made with premium ingredients, including their signature specialty, spicy grilled sausage “Devil Dawgs.” Devil Dawgs teams up with notable chefs to help create menu items including the Icelandic Dawg by Matthias Merges; and It’s Not a Corn Dawg and Classic Fried Chicken Sandwich from Andrew Brochu. The Vegan Dog has been a fan favorite for seven years- even Jessica Chastain proclaimed her love for it on her recent visit to Chicago. Devil Dawgs also offers familiar and creative Fresh Angus Sliders. The Elvis Slider is dubbed one of Chicago’s greatest late-night snacks for good reason: it features cheese, peanut butter, bacon and Inferno sauce. Fried chicken sandwiches include The Clucker, a buttermilk battered, fried chicken breast with house mayo, spicy slaw, and pickle, on a fresh brioche bun. (Always hormone- and antibiotic-free natural chicken.) Milkshakes are hand mixed using real ingredients, with rBGH-free dairy from local farm Fox Valley. Top it all off with crunchy tots, fresh cut fries, whiskey battered onion rings, and housemade sauces. The Devil does it better.
"Devil Dawgs has five locations throughout town including one in the South Loop neighborhood near Soldier Field. Chefs Andrew Brochu and Matthias Merges developed many of the items, adding an elevated experience to the menu. It’s also one of the few places that serves vegan hot dogs, perfect for plant-based diners wanting to experience the Chicago-style hot dog." - Tori Allen
"Devil Dawgs tastes pretty good when you're sober, but like most things in life, is infinitely better when you're not. This counter-service hot dog joint is also one of the few places in the South Loop serving food past 9pm on weeknights. There isn’t a ton of seating, so walk in on any given afternoon and you’ll see a steady stream of students from the neighborhood grabbing takeout. Skip the regular hot dogs on the menu in favor of the specialty “devil dawgs.” “Dah Big Chicago Dawg” (a classic Chicago-style dog) is a good option, and so is the “Icelandic Dawg” which comes topped with remoulade, onion, and crispy shallots. They all have a nice snap and enough char. And for those who aren’t huge fans of encased meat, there are burgers and chicken sandwiches, plus a vegan hot dog option, too." - Veda Kilaru
