15 Bountiful Restaurants for Vegetarians in San Francisco

"Diners are often overlooked fixtures of Americana landscapes and, while this Noe Valley restaurant isn’t a full-on greasy spoon, there’s plenty of that nostalgia to tap into for the vegetarians out there. There are veggie scrambles and bagel sandwiches, somewhat anticipated fare, but head here for the sweet and savory crepes including one stuffed with numerous cheeses and salsa." - Paolo Bicchieri, Eater Staff

I wanted to rate this a 15/5 but I couldn’t. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. We sat outside and our table was crooked and our waiter helped us make sure it didn’t tilt. Very nice employees and beautiful atmosphere. The chalkboard menu was also very cool!!!

Visiting the vicinity, we popped in for brunch since our dining times were messed up. I had the Country Breakfast and she had the salmon bagel. They were both delicious! . The service was great as well. The cashier brought us our coffee and water, then brought the food when it was ready. . Just the thing to sate our appetite in the late morning and to give us energy for the hills. (We're Flatlanders, so the hills are punishing!)

I don't like diamonds...they aren't really the problem, it's the diamond industry. They straight up lie. Nothing lasts forever, why would diamonds be the exception? Eventually they'll turn into graphite. Why spend thousands on eventual graphite with no functional value? I understand buying a diamond ring is suppose to be a gesture of your love, but there has to be a more logical way to show that love. Instead of an engagement ring, why not an engagement watch? It can still have diamonds and be absurdly expensive, but at least it can tell time. Then you can actually time how long your "forever" is. Maybe I'm missing the point though. A symbol of love doesn't need to make sense or have any functional value. The idea behind spending a lot for an engagement ring could prove you're willing to throw caution to the wind for love. If that's the case, the most powerful and romantic gesture would be to spend a lot of money on something with almost no resale value. Like the next time you go to a flea market and you see someone selling cheap homemade jewelry, buy an "engagement" ring from them and leave a 5000 dollar tip. Then you might truly be madly in love. Anyway, I didn't let my negative association with diamonds affect the way I felt about Diamond Cafe. Their food and service was terrific.

Nice breakfast with good service. Great location for dog watching.

Google
Love our local Diamond Cafe. Great coffee, drink selection and menu, although not extensive ticks all the boxes: I really like their tuna salad!

Google
Small, local and cozy shop. The older guy at the counter was doing everything and he was great ! Loved the food and the service.

Google
Such kind, sweet staff! Great bagel and coffee and good prices. Lots of room to sit and in a fun cute location. Reccomend!!!

This is a fantastic neighborhood place with great breakfast food! Nice people and quick service. Never disappoints.

Yelp
The Diamond Cafe is a gem which serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch. I like their savory and sweet crepes . I usually get their Nutella crepes which are sweet and tasty. They also serve drinks in here. This is the San Francisco spot in Noe Valley to dine , The Diamond Cafe is the place to get a drink and eat rain or shine

Yelp
Overall - Laid back, neighborhood cafe with incredible service and awesome food. A good pit stop before a Noe Valley adventure. Rating: 5 of 5 Ambiance - Cozy little cafe with about as much seating as possible. It can get a little cramped and folks who regular this spot seem to take up more space than they should, but that's their problem, not the business. Overall vibe is very laid back. Rating: 5 of 5 Service - Top notch; the cashier / server (who I presume owns the spot) is beyond accommodating. He sees a lot of regulars and remembers all of their quirks. He's starting to remember me, I realized today. :) Rating: 5 of 5 Food - Consistent and tasty. Bay Area cafes (mostly chains) sometimes seem to focus on large portions to increase item prices, but this place keeps everything very reasonable. They seem to put a lot of effort into making the food exactly what you expect from what you're ordering. It's magical, really. What Was Ordered: Early Birds (me), Breakfast Burrito () (Previously had Mission Omelet and Veggie Scramble) Rating: 5 of 5 Notes: - It's a cozy cafe, try not to take up too much space or bring too many people. Respect the vibes. - Wait times: I don't think they could get any faster. I'm generally very patient, but the food always arrives surprisingly fast. - What to Get: Every visit I've gone, neither myself nor any of my guests have ever had anything negative to say about the food. Order anything.

Yelp
I still love this place. Lately, I've been asking for the tuna on rye sandwich with a small fruit cup on the side as opposed to their other options of a salad or potatoes. Sometimes I'll add an espresso. Their scrambles are excellent too. There are several choices. It's comfortable, cozy, and chill. Great service.

Yelp
Satisfying counter service cafe with slightly elevated diner style cuisine. For example, the breads are nicer than you'd get at a diner but the potatoes are the same. They offer a hearty portion of smoked salmon in the $18 scramble, but it's not a particularly fluffy scramble and it might actually feature 2 eggs instead of 3. The crepe gets the job done, but for $12 it'd be hard to justify as a daily driver. Diamond cafe serves whole milk.

Yelp
Based on the reviews and photos, I was expecting more. I'd imagine if I lived in the neighborhood, this would a nice go-to spot for a quick sandwich and coffee to go. Cashier person was pleasant and was nice to see that he recognizes his usuals. For a sit-down meal at their price point, I'd probably pick a different spot. On a whim, my husband and I wanted to try a new spot for us to grab breakfast and came across Diamond Cafe. Parking was a tad challenging since the neighborhood parking is already quite limited. Open arrival, you order at the front counter and pick your own seat. There's less than 10 small tables inside the cafe, clean but worn furniture. Great energy inside the cafe with lively music. Food overall was okay, nothing to write home about. What we ordered: - Mission Omelette with house potatoes and sourdough bread (3/5, potatoes were kind of crispy and lacked flavor) - Belgium Waffles with Nutella, strawberries, 2 bacon and eggs (I chose scrambled) (3/5 the waffle lacked density and flavor, but was very crispy and strawberries were fresh and sweet) - Banana split smoothie tasted a bit watered down (2/5) - Latte was also a bit watered down with too much milk (2/5) I did overhear a repeat customer hype up their breakfast burrito. If I ever get the chance to come back, I'll definitely get that.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place when looking for brunch spots in Noe Valley and it was a great spot to get some good food! They have so many options for sweet and savory and great choice of vegetarian options as well. They have a lot of crepes and non crepe food and we tried a bit of both. We got the breakfast burrito which was just yum and will be getting this again!! We also got the Nutella crepe which was good but I think the breakfast burrito was the star of the show and left us thinking we made a good choice! There's not a lot of indoor seating but they have outdoor seating and they come serve the food to you after you order it inside which is nice! They were very hospitable and nice! Overall, this is a great place for a quick brunch in the area!

Yelp
Cute place with good food and drinks. Came weekday lunchtime not so busy and they don't rush you.

Yelp
I'm pretty sure I got scammed lmao $28 for a banana strawberry Nutella crepe And a small berry smoothie ?? Should I call and ask for a price check because that's so outrageous:( and I just noticed it today because the man originally said $16

Yelp
Was expecting more. It was tasty but the place lacks warmth. I relied on reviews to get me here, but it totally lacked any oomph. The dishes were lukewarm. The owner was nice, but it seemed like we were sitting in his kitchen.

Yelp
Check out the old neighborhoods of SF. We enjoyed some Huevos Rancheros and I had the French toast Croissant with strawberries. The staff was very pleasant with my family and even offered us a larger table as it became available. Thank you for your kindness.
google avatar

Samatar J.

Yelp
Got a chicken pesto sandwich I believe with roasted potatoes (maybe country potatoes? I forget tbh). The sandwich and potatoes were good, not out of this world, but satisfactory, though I feel like I needed to add a bunch of Cholula to the sandwich and heavily salt and pepper the potatoes to make the taste come out better. Idk, just probably better options overall a lil further down the street in mission district or inner sunset.

Yelp
I really enjoy coming to this cafe because it's near my apartment, it's in a very nice area, and the staff is friendly. However I recommend eating in instead of ordering to go. I once ordered an egg scramble to go and they gave me a ton of salad and only a little bit of the scramble.
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
Nice coffee and breakfast shop Limited menu, but what we had was very good. Pea Soup rocked! They were very accommodating, always a "yes-no problem" with changes to orders to our tastes e.g. no mushrooms in veggie omelet. We were staying in the area so an easy walk to the location. We liked the staff and we happy to be repeat visitors.

Yelp
Cozy, casual and homey brunch place in a quiet neighborhood. Pretty impressed by the smoked salmon scrambled, and very well toasted sourdough, which I was pretty impressed. A bit pricey but perfect casual brunch spot to check out if you live or are visiting the area.

Yelp
This is our family go-to for brunch! It's a tried and true, hearty and satisfying place to grab a pastry, a smoothie, a coffee, or go all out with a massive meal. I always get the chicken breast sandwich (usually on focaccia bread, although this time that was missing), and my brother always gets the country breakfast (chorizo egg scramble), and they never miss. Everything is just so perfectly cooked, and it comes out lickety split!! The smoothies are also super tasty; I usually get the Ruby Berry one. I'd suggest coming here whenever they're open, whether with your entire family, solo with a laptop, or on a brunch date. It's just a great place with a great ambiance, and the servers are all super efficient and friendly. I'll be eating here for a long, long time to come.
google avatar

Yelp
This cute small neighborhood cafe provides clean and casual indoors and outdoors sitting spaces. The simple menu on the wall is easy to read and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to sit and enjoy the day; so I ordered the Denver omelet to-go with potatoes and sourdough toasts. All tasted good.
google avatar

Yelp
Tasty food and quick service. Loved sitting outside! A neighborhood gem for sure!!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I got a breakfast burrito here over two weeks ago and I still can't stop thinking about how it was $20. The burrito was very small, and unremarkable at best. It was an extremely disappointing start to the day.

Roy B.

Yelp
These high reviews must be from locals who are just supporting their longtime spot. For SF the food is subpar. The eggs with the huevos rancheros were cooked perfectly but the sauce lacked soul and seemed like it probably came in a can. Overall disappointing. Too many better choices.
google avatar

Liyi D.

Yelp
Mike is one hardworking owner, who is dedicated in running his business for the neighborhood. He can remember loyal customers' orders, while he has a lot of loyal supporters. With the current city restrictions, customers would still visit Mike daily even though it means that one will need to hold the plate of food and eat it on the bench by the bus stop across the street. Food and drinks are always made to preferences with fresh ingredients. Cafe is always clean and the team follow safety precocious during these Covid days. The last star is to support local business like Diamond Cafe with serving the neighborhood as their priority.

Yelp
Great neighborhood cafe. Love this place! They have mimosas for 5 bucks! The owner is friendly and personable. Highly recommended for take out and brunch/breakfast when things are opened again.

Yelp
Very nice location. The meals were delicious and did not take long to bring to the table. This location is fine if you are in the area and looking for a place to grab something to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute cafe; opens early. The food is a little expensive, but it's yummy and portion is nice. Not sure if it's the owner, but the gentleman who took our order was super nice. Great service!
google avatar

Yelp
Not a fan - good service, but food was not great. My eggs Benedict came very plain! Just the two Benedict on a plater with nothing else - and the hollandaise sauce was too lemony and over priced. Ok, it is SF, so maybe that is just what you get - but $50 for breakfast... yikes!

Abby V.

Yelp
Really good food! Super nice staff. Kinda pricy. I paid 44$ for two sandwiches. One was their special and the other was chicken, with a soda and a hot tea.

Yelp
Stopped by here before a community planting session with Friends of the Urban Forest. I was running a bit late so I couldn't afford to wait for any of the prepared meals here. So I opted for an apple pie turnover, blueberry muffin, and Berry Ruby (I think! Could be off about the name) smoothie. The apple pie crumb was good! Not the best I ever had, but good enough to leave you satisfied. Wasn't excessively sugary. The blueberry muffin was underwhelming for me and I mostly felt like I was just downing carbs/flour. The smoothie (comprised of banana, blueberry, strawberry, yogurt, and orange juice) was my favorite item of the bunch, and brought back sweet memories of some phenomenal smoothies I had back in D.C. The interior of the cafe looked nice and I would've loved to stay inside, but all the seats were filled. I sat outside at one of the four tables sandwiched between two planters. Not much of a view, just the street and a building across the street that blocks Twin Peaks. All in all, I wish I had more time to try some of the other items here but it was generally a good experience! I'll have to remember to stop by here if I'm ever back in Noe Valley.

Nelson M.

Yelp
I finally found a decent cup of espresso in Noe Valley! And as a bonus, it's cheaper than most: $2.45 for a single shot. Nice staff, served in a ceramic cup, and not sour. I don't ask a lot of my espresso but every other place I've been in Noe Valley is either sour or served in paper. Diamond Cafe got it right.

Yelp
Do people still Yelp? Do people still sit down and eat? I saw photos of my colleagues eating inside of a restaurant, up high, in Singapore just before the Chinese New Year, I almost didn't recognize the act of dining in. But I think outdoor dining is underrated, and glad to see some of the restaurants will keep outdoor dining for the foreseeable future. For Valentine's Day breakfast, we showed up early and grabbed a table outside. There were no young people, just middle age couples. The plates were real so that was a plus. Unlike some of the other restaurants that only gave you to-go plates these days. Salad was fresh. pouched eggs were light. Food felt healthy and clean. If you want something healthy, something to start the day with, this egg menu works. If this pandemic taught me anything, is that you can easily lose 20+ lbs, eat way better food, and become an excellent cook in less than a year of time. But still, if you need to go out to eat, restaurants like this is good. It serves up light and healthy meals. Good service, quiet and pleasant outdoor setting, and it opens early so you don't have to be worry about getting too close to other people. Rain started to come down by 8:40 am, though it was still sunny. Just when we were done eating and heading to other places. Pleasant and stress free experience. A good place to eat if you are an early riser.

Yelp
Diamond Cafe is a Cozy Cafe in Noe Valley. The Owner is Extremely Nice. You will Notice Him Taking Orders, Bussing Tables, Etc. It's Easy to Tell that He Loves what he does and takes Pride in His Business. I Recommend their Mimosa Special 2 for $10.00 and their Bagels! Def worth a Try if You Haven't Already.

Yelp
Noe Valley is such a comforting Pleasantville of a neighborhood that walking over the hill from either the Castro or the Mission always feels like you're entering a different time zone, a different micro-climate, a different world with different sensibilities from another era. "Good morning, Mrs. Cleaver. My, what a lovely string of pearls you're wearing." That's why it came as no surprise that we came upon this cozy corner cafe on a casual stroll we took on 24th Street. As we turned the corner onto Diamond to prepare ourselves for the climb onto the Swish Alps, we stopped in for a spot of tea to wet our whistles. They serve crepes, scramblers, sandwiches and salads - all the vanilla food you would associate with Noe Valley residents and their battering-ram baby strollers (photo: http://bit.ly/2s6R2aZ). They even refer to their chicken salad as "Oriental". Really? Anyway, the baked goods looked appetizing even if they've been sitting there all morning, especially the coffee cake with all that powdered sugar on top (photo: http://bit.ly/2sc77HC). Lip-smacking would be an appropriate adjective to use in Noe Valley, wouldn't it? We were good and shared a satisfying $3.75 pot of Mighty Leaf Ginger Twist Organic Tea (photo: http://bit.ly/2t7M2T1). It was all so pleasant. TEA - 3.5 stars...there was a good tea bag in that pot AMBIANCE - 3 stars...pleasant like Pleasantville SERVICE - 3 stars...on the disaffected side TOTAL - 3 stars...Diamond in the rough?...uh, no

Yelp
Above and beyond service , great food, and plenty of street parking. Will be returning.

Yelp
After an exhausting but satisfying morning at the dog park, my boyfriend and I searched for a lunch spot within walking distance. Diamond Cafe was the place we settled on, mostly because there was outdoor seating for our dog. Thankfully it wasn't too chilly, so we took our seats, and the waiter took our orders. This cafe is so quick and efficient! The entire meal from sitting down to getting up to leave was about an hour. I had a Denver crêpe, which had a side potatoes. The menu is simple and organized, and they had a few specials available... But I just kept eyeing that crêpe. It was so hot, fresh, and tasty. The potatoes weren't very flavorful and required mounds of salt. They are minimal here in terms of seasoning, so it's friendly to the health-conscious. Overall Diamond Cafe is a reliable place for a filling meal. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but if we make a habit out of going to the Upper Douglass Dog Park, this might become our official post-play date spot!

Yelp
I've come here for years with my kids. Mike is the absolute best. The kids love the pancakes and I've never stirred away from the Country Breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here for breakfast while on a trip to San Francisco. I ordered the lox bagel and my girlfriend ordered the Florentine crêpe (Spinach and cheese). Food is really good and tasty. The waiter took really good care of us and made sure to get us everything we needed and prices are reasonable. We also ordered two delicious cappuccinos that did not disappoint. (When sitting outdoor you will see a lot of cute dogs so that's a big +). Recommend !

Yelp
Great comfort food with a little bit for everyone. The owner is incredibly friendly and quickly gets to know what regulars like, children included. Diamond Cafe is an integral part of what makes Noe Valley a pleasure to live in.
google avatar

Antonio P.

Yelp
Popped into this spot for a quick brunch. Quant spot with friendly staff. Gives a home vibe. Food comes out quick. Has alcohol. I encourage you to stop in. It is small so five or six small tables inside and a couple outside. Not ideal for large parties but good for a friend or two. I'll be back.

L H.

Yelp
Disappointing. The Eggs Benedict were the worst I've ever had. Everything was pretty much raw. The English muffin was not toasted, the ham was hardly cooked, and the eggs were too runny, even though they should be a bit runny. Plus there was no usual tomato. Also the service was poor and it wasn't clear if we were supposed to go inside and order or if we were going to be waited on. I asked and the guy said he would come out but he never did, so we finally went inside and ordered. It wasn't a very busy time either (12:30 pm on a Saturday).
google avatar

Yelp
You can't find any better then that. Really. The food. The service. The clean place. This is I want to say my fifth time maybe. I don't live far away. Let's start with the service. Amazing. Very personal services basically. The owner give every one attention. Very quick. Very caring. He take care of every client personally. It's amazing. It's say it all about the place. For me service mean a lot. Then the food. Wow. I am amazed by how good is that food. And every time I visit. He even making me things that not even on the Menu . Coffees great. Food is the best. Fast WiFi. It's amazing location. Yes. Parking not that easy in this area. But worth looking around the area. To try that food. Can't get any better then that. I assure you that

Yelp
Were it not 2016 I'd not be contractually obligated (okay, yelp-obligated) to write about Diamond Cafe or take photos of what I ate there. I'd probably be on my way, with a full stomach, never mentioning the place again or even giving it a second thought. It is, plain and simple, a classic neighborhood cafe serving decent if unremarkable food. Enough said. Or not. Would you be interested to know that: * They have an outdoor, street-facing seating area which means that you can come here with your dog? * They have the same menu board (and similar menu: crepes, eggs, sandwiches) as Crepevine, albeit with fewer offerings? * I suspect my Mission Omelet ($12.95) fillings and toppings were from cans (black bean chili) and jars (ranchero sauce)? * The accompanying potatoes were not good? Diamond Cafe is a quiet spot not carving out any new ground in the neighborhood cafe genre. If you live nearby it might be your spot. If you need a Noe Valley spot to meet up with friends it might also be your spot. The bright red "people love us on yelp" sticker is a bit of a mystery as I didn't dislike the place but saw no reason why anyone would adore it. For a perfectly adequate choice to grab a coffee and a snack, perhaps with your dog in tow? That's why Diamond Cafe exists.
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
I think this is a really nice café, though probably not amazing enough for me personally to rate it as a favorite 5-star place. A friend and I ended up getting breakfast / brunch here after foolishly thinking we could show up down the street at Griddle Fresh for a late brunch without waiting an hour TT__TT. So sad, sighhh. But Diamond Cafe was a pretty good backup. First, parking in the neighborhood in Noe Valley isn't super difficult to find, so that was super convenient to start. Second, this place wasn't completely crowded around 11:30 on a Sunday morning, but was definitely buzzing. They have quite an extensive menu, and are super nice. Personally, I got the Chorizo Scramble, which came with potatoes and tortillas. My friend got the Chicken Pesto crepe. I kinda wish I got a bit more food with the scramble, but regardless, it was really delicious and filling *enough* so that I wasn't sad lmao. My friend's chicken pesto crepe was DELICIOUS though. Would probably recommend that. Anyway, I had a good solid breakfast/brunch here. Would definitely come back for a lowkey morning. It's a nice shop.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in for a quick bite and got oatmeal and coffee. The man running the place was so nice. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, which came with fresh fruit. The oatmeal and coffee were hot, and the fruit was fresh. I would come again for sure, and enjoy their cute patio space.
google avatar

Evrett K.

Yelp
Being owned by nice people doth not always an excellent business make. In this case it most assuredly does. The smiles that greet you are as tasty as the breakfast. Genuine kindness and warmth resides both inside as well as in the Sunny Banana-belt Noe Valley Weather if you snag a table outside.
google avatar

Marc M.

Yelp
Great service and great food. Priced accordingly for the area. Outside seating was also clean and nice.
google avatar

Ziyan C.

Yelp
I really wasn't very impressed by this place. I don't go to Noe Valley very often and wonder if the high ratings are just from slim brunch pickings around here. THE WAIT: None around 3pm on a Saturday. Only a couple other diners. THE SERVICE: Nice guys at the counter, food came out quickly. THE COST: $15.10 including tax/tip for my scramble. THE FOOD (see my pics as well!): * Smoked salmon scramble - 2.5 stars Foursquare users and Yelpers alike raved about this, so I had a to get it .The salmon was meh, did not taste smoked. I ate a forkful of what I thought was egg white and turned out to be a chunk of cream cheese. There were several of these big chunks, not mixed in at all. The salad and toast weren't too memorable.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic crepes, good Italian-style cappuccino (I generally prefer third-wave style cappuccino, but when I want foam-topped espresso, this is the place I go).

Yelp
We dropped by Diamond Cafe a few hours before our flight while visiting some friends in the area. We were a bit in a rush so we're looking for something quick but still wanted to have a proper breakfast before heading out. Diamond Cafe was a perfect choice! The owner was super friendly and helpful, accommodating any ask we had for our group of 6 adults and 4 young kids. The food came out super quick and was really delicious. I had the vegetarian omelette and my wife had the bagel with hummus, both tasted great and were very well prepared. We were obviously a bit in a rush but it looked like a great neighborhood hangout I'd you have more time to enjoy a laid back breakfast or brunch. We saw some folks nibble on their brunch while being immersed in their book. Food and atmosphere were great but the excellent service alone deserves 5 stars for sure!
google avatar

Chhaya N.

Yelp
This place is good and service it good. I found a hair in my food and they replaced everything immediately. I ordered a Denver omelet and a crepe which is too much food for one person as portion sizes are huge. A meal for two cost around $55 which is a lot. Granted we ordered 4 dishes and coffees so you can get less but flavor is a win as is customer service. There is a tiny bathroom in the back you can use. The place gets busy around mid morning so I would come before to enjoy a relaxed meal.
google avatar

Caroline G.

Yelp
Very pleasant to have lunch on the outside seating area on a sunny day! I had a crepe with salad, I really liked it, it was very good but I found the crepe was quite small! (and I have a pretty small appetite) My husband was still hungry so we ordered a Nutella chocolate crepe: it was ok but not fantastic compared to the first one.

Yelp
Yelp says vegan options available...think again, went here and was informed I could have salad and of course a latte.
