Dianda's Italian American Pastry

One of very few places left that's survived the pandemic and cultural diversity! I'm 46 and this place has been around since as long as I can remember! Delicious cakes, cookies, and pastries especially my favorite the cannoli! Tres leches are also my go-to with mango, pineapple, guava, and chocolate to choose from! Get there early or you will miss out plus place can get pretty packed at times! Service is always great and the price definitely reflects quality!

Local bakery with many options including several flavors of tres leches cake of which I arrived too late for (arrive before 2 PM)! Chocolate eclair was great pastry bread and smooth, melty chocolate but the inside was a clumpy cream (which was decent but not the most desired consistency). Chocolate walnut brownie had good flavor and soft thin smear of chocolate frosting; wish it had been slightly more moist but otherwise good. Last dessert (I forgot the name but it’s chocolate mouse with almond extract and a thin chocolate dipped covering: delightful, soft/smooth, and I think best if shared. The almost flavoring can get tiring quickly but it was otherwise lovely. Super kind staff, very delightful and seemed happy to be there!

I stumbled upon Dianda's by chance, and what a delightful surprise it was! From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the display of irresistible treats. After some delicious deliberation and friendly service from the clerk (while the bakers worked away in the back), I decided to try the Banana Cream cake, and it was everything I could have hoped for. The cake was wonderfully light, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet—just the right amount of indulgence. I’ll definitely be back!

I've sent boxes of these cookies home for special occasions and also bought to share with friends or keep at home for a pastry in the morning with my espresso. Honestly love every cookie I've bitten into. And the cakes! The mango cake was divine!

The small merengues and apricot pockets were very fresh and tasty. However the line and the wait was a little inconvenient.

Go for the pastry and Tres Leche cakes of all different flavors. Fantastic gold mine for traditional Italian bakery. Parking sucks but hey it’s the city. Most of the help are Spanish speaking only so be prepared with your translator 🥰

Amazing customer service, delicious cakes, and other irresistible treats (like the Napoleon pastry)! I've been here a few times and usually grab a few cookies along with the Napoleon pastry, which is criminally good. This was my first time ordering a cake, and it won't be the last. At 5pm, I called to see if they had any strawberry cakes left. They said they had a few and would hold one for me--a pro move, (thank you Gina!!), because by the time I arrived at 6pm, the cake counter was nearly empty. They even customized the cake with my friend's name and wrapped it up perfectly for me to take home. The cake was a huge hit, and I'll definitely be getting it again. Now I understand why almost everyone leaves with a cake box! You don't need a special occasion, this cake is what you want to just celebrate another day of living!!!

What happens when a thoughtful friend and former coworker remembers your birthday? An opportunity to try a locally owned business institution in the Mission and to widen my hips... A friend recently offered me a choice of getting a birthday cake from a South Bay bakery or here so I opted for here. She preordered the cake and picked it up on a Friday morning, delivering it to my office. I brought it home to share with my family later that night. Being strawberry season, it is impressive how they picked the strawberries for the cake, all being uniform in size and shape, no easy feat. Our family shared it with other family members and friends since we wanted to make sure we finished it while it was still fresh. Still, I was able to enjoy three slices of this over the next nine days. Thanks to my generous and caring friend for giving my family and me an opportunity to try this. Thank you, Dianda's, for giving us an enjoyable celebratory cake.

Dianda's is the real deal Italian pastry shop. Let me just clarify off the bat that the move here seems to be revolving around cake. This is where you are supposed to order your cake for any occasion you are having. While I was tempted to just order a whole cake just for my own special occasion, I was advised against it (by my stomach). If anyone reading this is planning on throwing me some party, just get me a cake from here and the rest I don't care about too much. The first time I stumbled into this place after a food bender at La Taqueria (directly next door). I was ambitious and went for dessert. I got this thing called a Crem (check spelling). It's basically a flakey and sugary pastry dough sandwich with about 4 pounds of custard in the middle. It blew my face off so naturally the next time I was nearby I was going to get another. I paired it with this Neapolitan cake which was very impressive. Layers of crisp and flakey dough with cream and custard. Notoriously difficult to eat and very messy. So just try and set yourself up for success when you dig in. Dianda's is a place where classic Hispanic hard work meets incredible classic Italian food (dessert style). Send Dianda my regards. Oh my God, the pastry is so old world. Remind you of your granny, lovely people busy bakery go there every time I can.

I paid $15 dollars for a small bag of cookies. Very disappointed that all the cookies were stale. Tasted terrible. A few months ago , I purchased a box of cookies as a gift for a friend. Now, I worry that I gave stale cookies to a friend.

Perfect Italian American bakery a San Francisco staple! I adore there millefoglie cake is my favorite. You do need to preorder it so plan accordingly!

Dianda's caught my eye with a line out the door with many people order their birthday and wedding cakes here. They offer a variety of cakes and sell by the slice. I tried the banana cream and carrot cake. The banana cream was light and delicious, but the carrot cake was a bit dry. Overall, it's a good spot, however the cakes can be a hit or miss.

Dianda's has some of the best cakes! It's been a family favorite for years, especially for birthdays. Our top choice is the tres leches cake, which comes in various flavors. We always order ahead to ensure it's ready for pickup. If you haven't pre-ordered, make sure to arrive early as popular items often sell out. Parking can be challenging, so being dropped off is a good idea. The staff is usually quick with orders. There's no seating inside, so it's grab-and-go only. They also have a location in San Mateo, though I haven't visited it yet.

I visited this place for the first time and they had a great variety of pastries. The lady who assisted me was super friendly and efficient. I was in a rush to leave and got a bit stressed because I couldn't find a proper parking spot around and I had to double park, but she was so patient with me. I ended up ordering 6 pieces of their dry sweets and 3 pieces of their wet pastries, which included tiramisu, banana cake, and chocolate cake. They were all delicious! I'm definitely planning on going back to try out their other pastries. Can't wait!

This is an all time favorite of mine. Their Napoleons and creme puffs are so great that had my relatives bring me some when I was in the Philippines. Their Tres Leches are so creamy and not too sweet. The Icing is buttery and light. It gets busy here but the Cashiers are nice and fast. It is located in the Mission and is very easy to get to by bus or bart . The decor reminds me of the good Old Bakery when I was younger.

My family patronized many bakeries in the Mission, but Dianda's was never on that list. Still, we were familiar with the popular Italian-American bakery by way of the birthday parties we attended in the 80's and 90's. These days, I'm often responsible for providing the cakes for get-togethers. I bought a few small items from Dianda's recently to see if I could add them to my rotation, & the quick answer was no. I purchased four cake slices: Black Forest (which failed to get the stamp of approval from the Black Forest cake lover in my life), Chocolate Delight, Italian Rum, & Tiramisu. The cakes weren't as fresh as they could've been, & the flavors were weak. There are far better versions of each of those cakes at other bakeries in SF & the Peninsula, so I have no reason to settle for Dianda's mediocrity. My family knew what they were doing all those years by steering clear of Dianda's, & I will gladly continue that tradition. I ended up getting the birthday cake I needed from Shubert's. They had the taste & texture I was looking for.

I've been going here since the '80s, rum cake for special holidays. I really appreciate that they use real butter in their cakes and they taste light and not-too-sweet... so I can eat more :-) without feeling guilty. I also think it's smart of them to make every cake slice the same price. Makes choosing easier and saves time.

We ordered a Tres Leches cake with peach and mangos. We usually do strawberries, but my son's birthday is in January, and strawberries are not in season. Additional fruit did cost more, but it was worth it. Everyone enjoyed it!! And now I'm craving for more! You can't go wrong with anything you order from this bakery! Born and raised in the City, I grew up having cake from Dianda's...I'll just say, I didn't know for a very long time that one of my fav cakes was rum cake...if you know, you know.

First time here, and I couldn't have been happier with my pastries. I do not know the name of the cookies but the name looked like linguine. I was surprised at how many different item I could choose from. Has a deli like feel to it but with pastry items. I will be back

Heard good things about this place and there was actually a line out the door. Unfortunately they were out of napoleons, but we got a few items: almond torte, red velvet, and a brownie. The almond torte had great almond flavor and buttery mouth feel, red velvet was light and fluffy, but the brownie was dennnnnse and had nuts! Would come back to try the napoleons!

Everyone loved the strawberry tres leche cake! Yay! I got the almond croissant and bear claw. They put so much almond paste. The bear claw, you can smell vanilla. This is the best bakery (schubert too). The ladies are so fast.

Not sure what's going on with Dianda's lately but I was there this last Wednesday and picked up some goodies to take home. I bought 2 slices of the chocolate cake with strawberries, a bear claw and a raspberry wreath. The cake slices were super dry, like they had been sitting in the case too long and the bear claw had good flavor but good gawd was it dry. Diandas has been my families go too since I was a kid, I remember always seeing Mrs. Dianda in the shop and I'm sure she would not be pleased.

This place is a delightful throwback Italian bakery like I haven't seen since college in Boston including a huge array of tasty stuff and kitschy wedding cake statues. The carrot cake was not my favorite but I loved all the other stuff I tried. Staff gave friendly and prompt service.

I have been to several Italian Style Bakeries in San Francisco So Far I have been Victoria's Bakery In The North Beach Area & Dianda's Mission Area and my favorite item that I like was the St Paddy's Day Clover Cookies!!!!!

HOLY!! Walked past this unassuming bakery a thousand times on my way to Bart and finally went inside after seeing some TikTok reviews of the place. Great variety and selection of pastries from individual cake slices, Italian cookies, etc. Good pricing about $12 for 1/2 pound of cookies. Loved that the cookies were not overbearingly sweet like most American desserts. Just the right amount of sweetness. This is my go to spot for rainbow cookies now. I will say they are a little more dry than the rainbow cookies I've had in New York but I like the sweetness level of these a lot! Highly recommend

My family and I have been long time customers. As so many other families that are native to SF. This place used to be full of friendly neighborhood staff. Now, everyone that works there, seems to hate that you walked in. The pastries are still super delicious so we continue coming there for our birthday cakes. But we usually have to prepare for terrible service. I really hope the owners figure something out. I'm sure we're not the only ones that feel this way. Smh

I ordered the Tiramisu here for my partner's birthday (it's his favorite cake!). They have plenty so there is no need to "reserve" cake, which was convenient. They were able to write a message on it when I came to get a cake. However, I found it to be quite overpriced ($51.95) for an average cake. I actually found it to be on the dry side - Tiramisu should be very moist, right?

Stopped by Dianda's after having burritos from next door. There is ALWAYS a line out of their door and hubby and I wanted to see what the hype was about. I ordered the Italian Cookie (& the Birthday Cookie) which was pretty dry. I've only had them once in New York and it tasted like a moist cake. This one crumbled and it didn't have that amaretto taste to it. I was quite disappointed. Hubby ordered a cookie and a cake (not pictured) and didn't have bad things to say. I'd like to give it another chance but I doubt they'll be able to get the Italian Cookie right.

One of my fav bakeries in SF. I was saddened when they closed their North Beach site decades ago because it's so hard to get to their original bakery in the Mish. Parking in the Mish is always challenging and with traffic, homeless, drug dealing that has worsened in the area, I don't like dining or stopping in the area. This business is a SF historic legacy business and started around 1906 by Italian American immigrants who passed it on to their sons, who then sold it to 3 of their bakers. We were in the Mish and decided to stop at El Farolito on 24th to get a few burritos and swung over to Dianda's for an assortment of their rum pastries which I love. The business is now on it's 3rd generation, who started off as baker-employees turned owners, so the recipes are the same. Furthermore, the staff at the counter told me she was very happy that 2 of the owners are Mexican. I bought the rum cake slice that has a lot of rum flavoring over the lighter sliced version. The more rum the better! My fav is their rum custard filled puffed pastry slices, all $6 per slice. It's been years since we've been back for their goodies and it's great to be back.

I'm was frantically searching for a last minute cake, and called this bakery up. They were so helpful on the phone so I dropped by to see what was available. Even though it was late in the afternoon, they still had a wide variety of cakes and pastries available. I ended up getting the strawberry tres lèche which was delicious. It didn't melt despite being out of the fridge for a few hours, and all of the guests loved it. The bakery also has candles, cutlery sets, and basically anything you'll need for your cake. Will definitely be coming here again.

DELICIOUS almond tortes. Addictive. Great delivery service. Torte arrives in tact and fresh. You cannot lose with Dianda's every time.

In my opinion this place is one of San Francisco staples. Traditional Italian pastry shops that is loved by generations of locals and tourists alike. They also have one outlet in Little Italy district along the Columbus Blvd. but it's pricier there. There is another shop in San Mateo. It is also amazing. Prices were reasonable but recently I've noticed it all jumping perhaps due to post pandemic inflation. They are also making many things to order: cakes and cookies. Can't even imagine SF without Dianda's Bakery!

If I could have the option to not give a star that would be my choice. I am extremely upset and disappointed with Dianda's. The lack of care for their customers is dreadful. I ordered a cake for my daughter's 16th birthday. I explained my daughter was in the hospital and this cake was extremely special to her. I gave specific details of how I wanted the cake and even provided a picture. They told me no problem and took my information down if they had any questions. At time of pick up I received the cake and it absolutely was not what I expected. The fact that they even presented this cake to me was appalling. It was not the color, nor the design, nor the beading I asked for and then they had a HUGE SMUDGE across the cake. I also asked them to write happy birthday and they didn't do that either. I explained to them this is absolutely in no way the cake I ordered, they explained there was nothing they could do because the baker left. I don't understand why I wasn't called if there was confusion on what I wanted. I explained I didn't want the cake and I would like money back and they refused. I can't believe the lack of service and care they put. I will never go back there and nobody should I either. I will be protesting my charge on my card as well

Their eclair is the bomb! Get it people! We were in the area and wanted to try some new bakery, and Dianda's showed up with good Yelp rating. So we decided to give it a try. The shop displays a bunch of cakes, pastries and cookies. We tried the pattie cake, eclair, mocha cake. Personally I like the eclair the most. Super rich chocolate on the outside and light and fluffy whipped cream inside ( they also offer custard filling, so just order whatever you prefer). The pattie cake and the mocha cake tasted a bit dry. The mocha cake also tasted a bit strange, I think it's the alcohol in it. Not a fan. Service was nice. Overall a good experience. I'd definitely come back for their eclairs!!!!

On this rain Saturday afternoon, Dianda's brought me happiness once again! Slight crowded when I walked in but helped quick. The surrounding display windows were lite up with all this homemade authentic Italian desserts. I always go for the chocolate items but all are winners. My family been buying event cakes here for year and we are always satisfied customers. Give it two thumbs up.

This is a solid bakery. I got a chance to try chocolate tres leches, which I'd never had before and that was pretty tasty. Another slice of chocolate-cholate cake was slightly dry but still good. There were lots of cookies and cakes that I wanted to try, so I would definitely go back.

Love Dianda's, and so does my whole staff. The mini cakes and Tres Leches are delicate and not too sweet, and such a favorite of mine in the city.

I placed a wedding cake order 5/8 to be delivered on 5/23. I paid $90 for delivery and when I asked if the cake could be delivered at 6:00pm they said the latest delivery they could do was 3:00pm, I agreed. The day before the wedding I get a call saying that their delivery person was leaving early and the latest they could deliver was 11:00am. The wedding was at a restaurant and they weren't going to have staff in until 1pm. I called back looking for Ariana (the person who called about the delivery) and they said she was gone for the day and to call back the next day for a refund. I obviously couldn't call the next day due to it being my wedding day. I sent one of my wedding guest to pick up the cake and they were told I couldn't get a refund and could only get store credit. I've called back a few times after the wedding and staff tells me she is not available and that they do not offer refunds only store credit. How can I not get a refund when it was their fault?? I don't understand I paid for a service that I did NOT receive and they still don't want to give me a refund. It is now June 9th and i haven't heard back from them since. As far as the quality of cake, we had a cake tasting and we chose to go with the raspberry cake and the mocha. I did mention the raspberry was dry and they assured me the cake was not going to be dry the day of. Turns out the raspberry cake was still very dry. Very disappointed, our family has been coming here for years for birthday cakes and the service/quality let us down. The cake was beautiful and the mocha cake was good other than that we paid an extra $90 for bad service.

I would give it 5 stars. Mi Compagna needed his cannoli fix and we had fun finding this place. It's been in business over 46 years . There's absolutely zero legal parking except one spot right in front of the place. We had a designated driver wait in our double parked car. The meter maid drove right past her . So common I guess. The sweet rolls, cannoli, cakes were so so good and worth whatever hassle it is to get there. Yumm

I don't come here very often, but when I do, it is a special treat. Their pastries are all beautiful and fancy and delicious! If someone brought me a fancy pastry from Dianda's on a date, I might marry them.

Fire is all have to say, I got this chocolate covered danish with whip creme filling. Hella good!! They woman help me was hella nice, this desert was hella good, everything in there looked good. Im definitely going back Asap and in a hurry. Brotha S Approved

Never buy coffee from this place! I burned myself driving drinking their coffee I bought from this place. I had to pull over on freeway to clean up & in major pain! They make so much money selling pastry but to use cheap coffee cups for their customers is ridiculous! Had burns on my top legs for days!!

56 years of classic Italian and Italian-American pastries. It's on Mission St. and the line for La Taqueria often goes right by the front door, I literally walked in, got some pastries for the hungry kids, and walked back out into line. Almond torte: Dianda's is famous for its almond torte. Has a wedding cake like base with almonds on the outside, dusted with sugar with a light layer of raspberry jam on bottom. Devoured by a hungry family before pictures could be taken and it was great to eat outdoors since a lot of stuff dropped off every bite. Cheese Croissant: Good croissant, just wish we asked for it to be warmed. Still finished in minutes. Around holidays the lines get crazier for Dianda's surpassing the La Taqueria lines, they have a Rum Cake that is super popular for holidays.

Delicious Cakes, everything from the icing, down to the cake breading. Fruit and all. Super nice and lively service. Happy for my birthday returns every year!

I last minute decided to order here instead of the place I was originally going to because someone recommended it to me. The lady on the phone was very helpful and nice. They were accommodating with it being last minute and still delivered it same day. They really made my dad's 50th birthday special. He said that these were the best cannolis he ever had (sorry Nonna) lol. Definitely worth every penny.

Literally the best pastries place, so delicious. The service is fast and usually they have a line but it goes fast. If you're craving a slice of cake come here it won't disappoint. So many options, just go don't even hesistate

A bit cramped and hectic, but what is an Italian bakery if not organized chaos that smells like crack. We got several cakes and I found Pandoro! Spent some time in Italy and really missed this buttery holiday cake. It's dense like a pound cake, yet spongey too and has a wonderfully moist, homey mouthfeel. Also part of the assignment is to cover it in powdered sugar (included) before consuming so there's that. Boyfriend loved his cakes, I loved my Pandoro. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the neighborhood- which you should be bc the Mission District is where it's at.

The bakery is super clean everything's fresh everyday they get there like a 3:00 in the morning and they open up I think at 5:00 in the morning and they close at 6:00 but their pastries are delicious they're pretty good they're Monday through their 7 days a week so they're pretty good I give you $5

Love love love the cannolis made here and cookies too. Such a crowd pleaser, this bakery is a must visit and one of the best in the city.

I've been to Dianda's a few times and it's always been really good! I would recommend the fruit tart and eclair. Haven't tried the cake slices myself but have heard from a friend that they tend to be on the dry side.
