The 35 Best Restaurants in Barcelona

"Any food lover worth their salt knows the unassuming former market food stall, Direkte Boqueria, is a must-visit on a trip to Barcelona. Bookings disappear so fast it can make your head spin. The formula is simple: two tasting menus, two tasting menus, seven dishes for €72, or 10 for €86. And it doesn't take long to appreciate why chef Arnau Muñío was named Chef of the Year 2018 at the prestigious Gastronomic Forum of Girona. His style is Catalan-Asian fusion, and there's no mistaking it as the delicately balanced umami of the oyster gyoza dumpling with its "capipota" sauce explodes in your mouth (capipota translates as "head and hoof" and refers to a rustic Catalan stew made from veal head and hocks). Although the real showstopper is the ultra-gooey matcha cheesecake." - Isabelle Kliger, Gemma Askham

Barcelona’s Best Tasting Menus for Every Budget - Eater

"Situated in Barcelona’s famed La Boqueria market, Direkte Boqueria remains unrivaled for price and quality. Snag one of only a handful of seats at the bar or a table on the new outdoor patio, where chef Arnau Muñío (2018 Fòrum Gastronòmic chef of the year) serves inspired, market-fresh (literally) local cuisine with Korean, Japanese, and Chinese influences." - Isabelle Kliger

Barcelona’s Best Restaurants in the Gothic Quarter, El Born, and El Raval - Eater

"This tiny fusion restaurant flanks La Boqueria, from which it sources its ingredients daily. The door practically brushes diners’ backs when it opens; that there are just eight seats wrapped around a kitchen bar hasn’t stopped this place from gathering accolades, starting with a 2018 Chef of the Year designation for Arnau Muñío from the Fòrum Gastrònomic Girona. The matcha cheesecake will ruin all forerunners: The size and shape of a small Camembert, with a generous layer of matcha powder on top, spooning into it will release a glossy ooze of white, just like when you score a perfectly ripe specimen — except this one is sweet and inexplicably light." - Suzy Taher

Incredible tasting menu experience of unique flavors. An absolute must-go if you’re in Barcelona, book in advance. They offer 2 tasting menus €68 (7 courses + 2 desserts) and €82 (10 courses + 2 desserts). The stand out dishes were the seasonal lagrima peas, mackerel and the smoked matcha cheesecake - wow!

Google
A fantastic dining experience! We had 12 courses (cuz why not) and each one of them gave a different palate sensation. Paired with wine of your choice( I recommend the orange wine). Chef Alessandro created several dishes that were absolutely mind-blowing, especially the salad dessert and cacao dessert. During the evening, he was very engaging and made the experience fun and educational. We absolutely loved it. Personal favorites: jellyfish, white asparagus, pig trotter, scallop carpaccio, soup dumping! The cherry on top is the sweet wine, a perfect digestif to end the evening.

Google
Outstanding 10 course meal!! The meal packed with various of flavorful ingredients, included some Asian ingredients as well. Every single dish was well designed and executed. We are very happy that we found this restaurant.

Google
Fantastic dining experience. Cannot recommend it enough. I want to revisit. I recommend sitting by one of the six seats by the counter instead of outside. Watching the preparation of the dishes is half the fun. Highlight was the local pea dish, least favorite was the goat, but getting worldly flavors and takes on local classics served with love and enthusiasm is what it's all about. Staff was fantastic.

Google
Our favorite dinner in Barcelona including Michelin star experiences. Did the bigger tasting menu and everything was incredible including fish we typically wouldn’t eat. Can be hard to find off Google maps but it’s in the market.

Google
What an experience. A super small and absolutelly unique restaurant inside La Boquería market. Just go with the tasting menu, eveything is fantastic and you'll get surprised with a lot of the dishes! All of them have something special even when they look like something "ordinary". Mediterranean fusion cuisine with inspiration and ingredients from absolutely everywhere in the world. The staff made the experience completely fantastic, it's amazing when you see people excited over their own work. I'll definitely come back.

A Fusion Feast of Japanese Delights at Direkte! Stepping into Direkte was like embarking on a culinary adventure where Catalunya met Japan in perfect harmony. We decided to go all out and ordered the big menu, and let me tell you, it was a decision we did not regret! The summer vibes were evident in every dish, and the freshness of the ingredients was unparalleled. With a delightful abundance of fish dishes, Direkte truly captured the essence of the season. Each bite was a celebration of Japanese flavors infused with the bountiful Mediterranean catch, creating a symphony of tastes that left us craving for more. But it wasn't just the food that impressed us; the wine recommendations were exquisite! We decided to try both orange wines and white wines to complement our meal. The server's knowledge of the wines and their ability to pair them perfectly with the dishes was commendable. It added a delightful touch to the overall dining experience, elevating our enjoyment to new heights. Speaking of the service, I can't help but give it a resounding ten out of ten! The staff at Direkte were attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. They guided us through the different courses, explaining each dish with passion and making sure our dining journey was nothing short of extraordinary. The chefs at Direkte truly showcased their talent by combining these two diverse cuisines with such finesse, creating a unique and unforgettable gastronomic experience. One thing that I would change was the first dessert, it was tasty but I prefer something else than lettuce for that kind of step.

Google
One of the best gastronomic experiences I've had in Barcelona. The plates are very well thought and a great combination between local and Asian recipes and ingredients. Also, almost everything used is locally sourced. Regarding the atmosphere and service, you see everything happening in front of your eyes which is fascinating and the staff explains every dish in detail and is happy to answer any questions about the preparation of the dishes. Also, the price might seem high but it's 78 euros for 12 dishes which isn't bad at all if you take into consideration the quality and the work that they need so that they can be created.

Yelp
I had one of the most amazing, memorable meals of my life here and I'm so thankful I started researching Barcelona restaurants early because I booked this two months in advance. My friend who tried to get a table a month in advance could not, but I'm not surprised considering that they have only two seatings (8pm and 10:30pm) a night with 6 patrons indoors and a handful outdoors. I was lucky and sat indoors with a perfect view of the kitchen, and watching the team work together seamlessly was a whole experience in itself. It was an utter delight watching them juggle everything with grace and poise while fielding our questions about dishes, ingredients, and wine. The dishes were wildly inventive and fun, and as an Asian person, I really felt that they incorporated Asian ingredients thoughtfully and knowledgeably. This is Spanish-Asian fusion at an incredible level, and I am blown away that I can get such quality and execution at the price. We opted for the 12 course tasting menu for 68 euros, and I would definitely go back when I visit again. Since the menu changes, there's no need to go into detail because you're unlikely to get the same thing, though apparently the smoked matcha cheesecake is a staple (for good reason). The smoky flavor and the perfect ooze of that cheesecake reminds me of a cheese tart but with a lovely nuance. They did quite a few delightful plays on "surf and turf" (or the Spanish equivalent, mountain and sea), including the oyster soup dumpling with veal head & feet broth. Incredible. All the raw fish was incredibly fresh, and every combination was remarkable to behold. I would say that not everything was equally delicious, but the highs were very high and even the lows were still like a 6/10 in flavor/texture (but all 10/10 in creativity). The service was so pleasant, the food so good, and the overall ambiance so charming, that this would have to be one of my favorite restaurants I've ever been to. I was so enthralled I even made a reel on instagram for it (which I had never done before). This was the perfect dinner to celebrate my boyfriend's Match Day.

Yelp
Direkte was the first reservation I made for a recent trip to Barcelona. My wife, brother in law, and I love Asian fusion cuisine, and Direkte was consistently mentioned in food/travel publications as a memorable dining experience for this type of cuisine. The prospect of an omakase style meal was similarly enticing, and the restaurant blew us away in terms of both food and hospitality. It would likely be of little use to describe any dishes we sampled in detail as the menu here changes frequently. Suffice it to say that the postage stamp sized kitchen turns out some amazing, inventive Asian fusion plates. The seafood focused dishes center around exemplary sauce work and deftly balanced seasonings. We tasted novel flavor combinations and ingredients here that tasted world class. The experience of seeing the chefs diligently working right in front of you adds to the magic, and we truly appreciated being able to interact with them and ask questions freely. Similarly, the hospitality here is unbeatable and intimate. The team constantly ensures that guests are taken care of and the warmth of the staff feels genuine and sincere. To best take advantage of the service, I would highly recommend booking a bar seat rather than an outdoor table, as some of the uniqueness of the experience is lost if you sit far from the action. Do reserve early, as the bar seats only 8 guests. Despite how high end the experience feels, the meal costs 70 euros for 10 courses, which is a relative steal given the quality of the food and the service. Direkte stands out from the numerous, excellent dining experiences we had in Spain and ranks among the best meals my party and I have ever had. We felt like we were eating Michelin quality food served to us by friends. I highly recommend dining here if you are visiting Barcelona, especially if you enjoy seafood and Asian flavors.

Yelp
This was one of the restaurants we were most excited to dine at in Barcelona. I can honestly say it was the worst dining experience of my life. It was a seafood forward meal and I couldn't swallow half of what was presented. BTW, I love seafood. Both my sister and I ended up sick that night after dinner. Stay away, way over hyped! Bar Canete was an amazing restaurant, go there.

Yelp
Wow! This place was the top one or two restaurants that I ate while in Europe. Their tapas have some Asian flavors to them, so it's a unique blend of Spanish and Asian tastes. The bar seating was very intimate, where you can watch the chef and his team making each tapa. I'd recommend sitting at the bar for the best experience. There were two menu options, one with 7 courses and one with 9. We initially opted for 7 but the chef double checked with us if we wanted to have more courses in the middle of the meal and we couldn't resist the upgrade. I would definitely come back here again!

Yelp
One of the best meals I've ever had in my life. I had read about this place on many food blogs and am so glad that I did. We did the 10 course tasting menu with 2 desserts and every single dish was so meticulously put together and each dish was a piece of art. There are only 8 seats at the counter and it's an open kitchen so you get to see the chefs make your food. HIGHLY RECOMMEND going here if you get the opportunity.
