Dixie Chili & Deli

We had a group order for the office, and usually order from the Covington location without issue. Today we ordered from the Newport location, and had a less than satisfactory experience to say the least. One of us ordered a greek salad, as usual, and what we received is pictured below. Barely any lettuce, which is the main ingredient of a salad, and the toppings were kind of just plopped in the center. The amount of gyro meat was decent, though. When we called about it, the staff informed us we could just hang on to the salad and bring it in when we got a chance. The manager also questioned the validity of the complaint, because the salads are "pre-made". If we hadn't ordered the salad from a different location before several times perhaps we wouldn't have noticed the difference, but we assume lettuce is a given. The manager was condescending and rude. BE WARNED: CHECK YOUR FOOD BEFORE LEAVING. Unless you have time to take it back.

This is the kind of place you come to after being away from home for a while. You can feel the history in the chili—the history of Cincinnati, the Midwest, and the comfort it represents. It makes you reflect: is it the chili itself that makes it great, or the people you share it with? Either way, it’s the kind of meal that warms your heart. Also they also offer vegetarian options.

I’ve been a loyal Dixie Chili fan for my entire life. If you’re from out of town and want Cincinnati style chili, this must be on the top of your list.

A casual, no-frills spot serving up Cincinnati-style chili across the river. I ordered a 3-way — spaghetti topped with chili and mountains of shredded cheese. Simple, hearty, and definitely unique. The diner vibe feels old-school, and the staff keep things quick and friendly.

Only been here once but it was delicious! The cheese curds were super good, and their chili is probably my favorite out of the Cincinnati-styled spots all around. Very flavorful with the right amount of spice. Only minor complaint is the workers were not very welcoming for a newbie, assumed I knew what was going on with their unorthodox lunchroom style setup

Excellent service. Very clean!! One wall displays pictures of the history of Dixie Chili. Got the 6 way!! Fabulous!! Highly recommend this establishment!! Will definitely be revisiting!! Hard working employees!! Love to see that!! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!!

Nostalgic and 100 years old , but from there on it’s down hill. Prices are way too high for such small portions. Service was somewhat slow, and our order came out one sandwich at a time. I will go back if you are paying.

I used to go here a lot but the last time I went one of the lifers there gave me attitude when she short filled my drink and I asked if she could fill it up to normal level. She did one quick push on the drink machine and handed it back to me short about an inch low with a scowl. That was about three years ago and I never went back again. Dixie is my favorite chili but if I go, I go to the one in Covington where the people are nicer and aren’t mad at their lives. Might have changed since then but I doubt it. It’s the same ladies for the last 20 years. I’m not paying to deal with a bad attitude with who’s making my food. Recipe for trouble. I’ve found that GoldStar on Carothers is much more friendly and they treat you like family. The most wonderful people ever so that’s my go to now for Cincinnati chili. Dixie is good food but I think it’s seen its day in the rear view mirror.
