Doan's Bakery - Review - Woodland Hills - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"We’re still waiting for the day when Tom Cruise ships us a coconut cake, but until then, we’ll head to Doan’s Bakery, a small neighborhood cakeshop in Woodland Hills with a pastry window full of colorful layer cakes. The white chocolate coconut bundt cake–which Tom Cruise famously sends to his celebrity friends during the holidays–has big white chocolate chunks, a thick layer of cream cheese frosting, and a heaping pile of coconut flakes that inevitably scatter as you grab a forkful. And though most people are coming by to pick up this famous coconut dessert, we like their carrot cake even better–the base is moist and nutty with warming spices that are a pleasant contrast to the very sweet cream cheese frosting." - Cathy Park

Where to Order the Best Pies in Los Angeles

"Doan’s founder Karen Doan died in April this year, but staff keep her memory present by producing Doan’s outstanding cakes and pies. The bakery offers national shipping on Goldbelly, but locals can simply call the shop and place an order by November 13 to score an apple, pecan, or seasonal pumpkin and sweet potato-pecan pies." - Mona Holmes

The Tom cruise cake: White chocolate coconut Bundt cake

Going for manicure around 3 miles away and taking advantage to make a stop at Doans Bakery, which apparently was said offering Tom Cruise's 'annual Christmas gift'. The cute bakery literally reminded me of typical long-standing one, with simple design that probably has stayed for years. Only 2 sets of tables available with most people only came for 'TO-GO's. I came just right past noon and had quite limited options but still saw some of their signature Tom Cruise cake available. It was moist sponge cake topped with super generous cream cheese frosting with chunks of white chocolate and shredded coconut. Priced at $9, I would say it's pretty big and rich that some people might consider sharing for 2. I'm a sweet tooth and for me I finished one myself but surely felt pretty sugar-high after. Despite some people complaining it being dry, the mini version I got didn't seem to be the case at all. I thought it worth the hype; the sponge cake could be just okay, but the cream cheese with abundant white chocolate was surely the creme de la creme. I wished I was on Tom Cruise's annual Christmas gift list!

Went here for the famous tom cruise cake. I loved that the cake is in individual sizes and reasonable prices. The taste was not as incredible as all the hype. If I came back I would definitely try the fruit cake because that looked pretty delicious.

Google
Cake was very mid, in my opinion. My family was enjoying it until we found two hairs in the white chocolate coconut cake. We had to immediately stop and toss it. Very unfortunate, we drove over an hour to purchase these bundt cakes. Hopefully, no one else has an experience like this.

Google
Came from Australia to try the famous cruise cake. Had to be done. We got the cupcake version of the coconut cake which was unreal arguably better than the Original. We of course then got an 8 inch Bundt cake to go and sat in and ate a mini Bundt cake. All unreal and very worth the trip. The staff were also so lovely, I didn’t get the young girls name behind the counter but she was so willing for a chat and answer all our questions about the famous bakery and the baker came out and said hello. What a lovely team and lovely baked goods if we were staying longer we would have loved to try more so we’ll just have to come back! Thanks again :)

Google
A co-worker brought in the world famous Tom Cruise cake and lemme tell ya, it’s worth every penny! Tbh, it’s a Death Row dessert, which is convenient since the bakery is located in California.

The wife wanted to try the famous Tom Cruise White Chocolate Coconut Cake. I read reviews that it was dry but it was not the case at all. It was very moist and not dry at all. Loved the white chocolate all around the cake. We also got recommended the strawberry shortcake. It wasn't dry at all as well. I'm not sure where the other reviewers are getting that their cakes here are dry but it was not our experience.

Google
I've been wanting to try the famous white chocolate coconut bundt cake made famous for being the "Tom Cruise cake." Cake is very decadent and rich. Love the loads of coconut flakes. However, it's a bit sweet for my liking. In addition to the coconut cake, I also got carrot bundt cake and dark chocolate. Both were very rich and sweet. My preference when it comes to sweets or desserts would be on the lighter fluffy side versus dense cake with a lot of frosting. I can see why the white chocolate coconut cake is a favorite amongst many.

Google
I’m in town for a couple of weeks and wanted to treat my nephew to something sweet. A quick search for the best miniature chocolate cake led me to Doan’s Bakery. While browsing their site, I noticed they offer the famous coconut white chocolate Bundt cake—also known as the “Tom Cruise cake.” I had asked my mom to make one a few months ago and absolutely loved it, so I couldn’t resist trying Doan’s version. I picked up a small Bundt cake along with a chocolate croissant. Everything was delicious! The chocolate cake was a touch on the dry side, but overall, this is a very good bakery with some standout treats.

Yelp
Tom Cruise was right, most delicious cake ever. Their coconut white cake is absolutely divine. I tried the cupcake version but still omg, it just melts in your mouth with one word scrumptious! I could litteraly have this every day for a desert but that would not be very good probably for me but delightful for my tastebuds. Also the brownie is quite delicious too it has some little chocolate chips bites in the final taste and it's soft but also delightful omg I need to try more of their cupcakes but I don't think I can get past this coconut one!!!

Yelp
Had to order the Tom Cruise Coconut White Chocplate cake. Seems best flavors come through at room temperature. I was bringing these for a small dinner get together as a dessert flight. I also ordered the Lemon Cheesecake. All three were great but the Lemon Cheesecake was a stand out. It was tart almost like key lime but not overly sweet. The service was ok. This is a cute little bakery. Street parking.

Yelp
Like everybody else reviewing, I too came here because of Mr Mission Impossible. When I first took a bite out of the coconut cake, I thought, "Oh, it's just okay..." but then I kept eating it and eating it, and weeks later I can't stop thinking about it. It may be one of my favorite desserts in Los Angeles (well, technically Woodland Hills) I bought the cake for a birthday party, and days before the pickup, I called to reserve it but the receptionist said no need. Just show up. When I did show up that morning, there were tons of cakes available, and other treats too. I didn't have a chance to try anything else besides the latte, which was average, but I would definitely head back to Doan's for the Tom Cruise holiday special until he one day puts me on his gift list.

Yelp
I drive 4 hours to get there just for them to be closed due to an "emergency". I called them and checked their website for hours etc and they were open beforehand. I was devastated.

Yelp
I would have given Doan's five stars if the girls behind the counter acted like they gave a crap that we were in the store! It's not like they were busy at all. MAYBE one other customer. Sorry we interrupted your morning ladies! Got a hot tea. The lid wouldn't stay on at all. Almost threw it out after I became so annoyed. Wound up taking the lid off and just being uber careful. The tea was very tasty. Now to the reason we stopped into Doan's in the first place: the White Chocolate Coconut Cake aka the Tom Cruise cake. Got our cake to go as there really wasn't a place to sit down and eat. Took the cake home and when we finally cut into it, it was really good. Would I go back? Maybe if I was in the area again. I'd like to try the lemon cake.

Yelp
It disappoints me to say that this place doesn't live up to the hype (I only heard about Doans through the story about that *one particular celebrity* gifting the white coconut cake to people during the holidays). It's fine though, since I don't really need another reason to expand my waistline xD Upon taking my first bite into the infamous white chocolate coconut bundt cake ($9 for a small) I immediately found it to be overly sweet. While the coconut flavor was there, it was overpowered by all the sugar (maybe cutting the amount of it in half, omitting the white chocolate and using less frosting, then that would be great). It also wasn't the best bundt cake I've had--it wasn't as soft nor fluffy. In addition, the palpable lack of a welcoming atmosphere here is really what earned such a low rating. The employee couldn't have seemed any more indifferent and standoffish, which was unfortunate really. Anyway they have a few seats & tables if you want to eat there, but it's eerily quiet and a bit stuffy inside. Parking is either street or in a small lot behind. There's a limited cafe drink menu available. Overall, glad I finally tried this place but I won't be back ):

Yelp
I recently learned that this is where the popular Tom Cruise white chocolate coconut cake was from so curiosity got the best of me and I ordered one. It's lovely- not a huge coconut fan but this is pretty tasty and it has a cream cheese based frosting that's not overpowering.

Yelp
I popped in to try the cake everyone seems to talk about. Which I got. However, let me tell you about the lemon cake!!!! I got two lemon cupcakes, a week ago, and they are all I can think about! They were so good. Crumb to frosting ratio was perfect for me, flavor was strong and balanced. The parking is street metered parking. Inside has two two tops. They also serve up coffee and smiles!!! The coffee was good :) The staff was super sweet! They cut my slice for me from the famous cake, and when a passerby came by and wanted to sample it, we struck up a convo and I invited him to have a bite. The staff then sliced the cake shown. Get the lemon cake! Its phenomenal!!!

Yelp
Of course, I came by for the famous Tom Cruise Christmas Cake, better known as the White Chocolate Coocnut Cake. Service was fantastic. I picked up my cake 2 days before Christmas and as busy as they were, all three girls working the counter were smiling, being friendly, and moving fast to get orders out! I ordered the medium sized cake which is $40. It's a great size and they say it can feed 4-6 people, I really think you can feed 8-10. The cake itself is moist, soft, and mild flavored. I think that's where the overall cake can improve. The white chocolate frosting is SO sweet. It's pretty overpowering and rich. The coconut flakes on the outside add some contrast in flavor and texture, and there are some crunchy bits inside the cake that I can't quite pinpoint as to what they are. So the cake as a whole isn't bad at all, it's just way too sweet and rich and really, nothing special. Sure, if I get a cake directly from Tom Cruise, it's going to be the best cake I ever ate. But at face value, it's a simple cake. I've had worse, and I've had better.

Yelp
Service was great. Almost bought one of their green hoodies. The famous coconut cake given as a gift by Tom Cruise was very good, not great. Could have been that it was in the fridge for a few hours but it did pull it out an hour before eating. Very dense. Sweetness was not overpowering and you better love coconut, which I do. Not as moist as I'd hoped but still very good

Yelp
I never knew this tiny bakery was near me! I found out due to Tom Cruise's famous coconut, white chocolate cake that he gives to his friends every Christmas. I got 2 cupcakes and a small lemon cheesecake. I'm a lemon lover and this did not disappoint! Delicious and tart! I will go back and get a bigger one. The coconut one was also good. Nice if you let it get to room temperature though. Yum!!!

Yelp
Well... well... well... Heard about this bakery. And not mention was informed to get the famous tom cruise coconut cake.... -I guess its tom cruise favorite cake or buys this cake for people... idk... Drive 35 min to see what this place has to offer annnnndddddd.... No bueno my friends!!... It's a bundt cake, and not a cake-cake (get it) Coconut bunft cake was a lil too sweet for my taste buds... Now, I'm always in for a good tasting treat, but I know when its made right. And when its just too sweet... so this place is just average bakery in my opinion... Also got the lemon bar, small but i didn't finish it due to the sweetness... Coffee... was good... nothing to rave about, but decent cup... Service was great, no real interaction but friendly as they can be... Street parking, recommend to go early or they have a parking structure in the back... No real ambience, just get your baked goods and go... couple of seat... One thing that I didn't expect, was that it was empty... for a place that has the "famous" coconut cake i did assume there was going to be a line to buy something.... but there was no line... (know what I mean).... So, doubt i will go back... didn't fully enjoy what I got... If you go.... Enjoy!!....

Yelp
Like everyone else, I got to tried the white coconut cake. Since I'm happened to be in near that area like about 20mins away...I popped in on Saturday morning and it was great since metered parkings was empty in the front (they do have parking in the back of the store). The interior is just like any typical bakery,, the service was okey, the 2 girls were seen not too happy to be there. They have several type of favors (I call it a Bundt cake), cupcakes pastries, and coffee. The cake was good, moist and rich, sweet white frosting covered the cake with shredded sweetened. Is it too sweet? Yes for me, but it goes well with cup of hot tea or coffee. But the lemon one was fantastic.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday afternoon at around 1:40pm and there was no line (store closes at 2pm). Service was awesome and the selections were still great. We moved to Woodland Hills 11 years ago and never tried the bakery until today. So happy that we did!

Yelp
I came here because of all the hype online from Tom Cruise about the white chocolate coconut cake. First impressions, it is a very cute and clean little bakery. Unfortunately, the two employees did not seem to want to be there and were not the friendliest when helping us (there was only a few other people in the shop at the time so not busy). Maybe we went on an off day, but that was the general vibe for our entire visit. Anyways, the cake taste was okay (maybe 3.5/5?). It is very rich, and I could not eat more than half a slice at a time. We also asked the employees what they recommend other than the coconut cake, to which we received a very awkward 10-15 sec of silence...so okay lol. This was definitely a cool spot to visit once and try the coconut cake (due to online hype), but once is probably enough for us.

Yelp
It's not easy having a child's bday between Christmas and New Years. That said, Doan's makes ordering a cake for her special day super easy! We've only ever gotten Bday cakes from Doans as well as other special occasions for this reason. Much gratitude to Doans for being awesome.

Yelp
4++ OK so full disclosure, this review is just essentially for the cake and the process of ordering through Gold Belly. This place is actually close enough to my buddy's house, which I visit pretty often so I'll be hoping to visit the actual location sometime soon. That said I really can't comment on the ambiance here. So we ordered a White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake for my dad for Father's Day. We were pretty excited since this was the famous cake that is being talked about a lot. I must say - the cake is pretty great. I love the flavors since I'm a big fan of coconut and the texture was great as well. And to me, I don't think this cake was overly sweet. The package came promptly and it was really nicely done as well. The cake was imperfect condition and it was kept cool with dry ice. The cake does feel a little pricey, but it's a pretty large cake and it serves a lot of people. And I was just shopping today for another cake for a friend's birthday and honestly cakes are just pricey at the moment, especially the quality ones. So, hopefully next time I'm visiting my good friend in Encino I'm gonna make that extra bit of trip just to come out here and grab a few items here. Possibly I get to try some other items available as well.

Yelp
We ordered our cake from here for our wedding on March 29 and they allowed us to put in the order around 2 weeks before the wedding. The ordering process was okay; I called in to ask about placing the order and was given their email to send information about the type of cake I was looking for. Whoever emailed back told me to just call in and place my order. Overall, I felt just "okay" about the cake. It was cute and served its purpose for the cake cutting photos, but it definitely had its flaws. I felt that the writing came out cute but looked sloppy and like it was piped with a shaking hand. The icing laced on the sides was also sloppy and didn't really look frilly or lacy at all. I feel at the price point, the piping should have been a lot better/neater. As for the flavor, the cake gets 1 star. When I discussed fillings with the bakery, they had told me they had raspberry jam as one of the filling options. I thought this sounded nice, so selected that. At the wedding, I was looking forward to finally cutting the cake and sharing that first bite with my husband. We cut into it to find that no, it did not have raspberry jam, but instead had raspberry buttercream. The raspberry buttercream paired with the white buttercream on the outside of the cake, was much too sweet and overpowering. The overall flavor of this cake was just Sugar. None of our wedding party or other guests wanted any of this cake (that cost over $100), and instead our guests preferred the basic sheet cake we got from Costco. We were really looking forward to this cake. It was cute, but overall was a disappointment. I wouldn't order a custom cake from here again. I would come back for their Tom cruise coconut cake.

Yelp
Shout out to lovely Yelper @TerriC - her review and instagram post led to my discovery of their famous Tom Cruise cake! I just had to secure one for an upcoming work party and it was a huge hit! Tom Cruise gifts their White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cakes to all his Hollywood friends every holiday season and I can see why! I read a lot of stories saying these cakes sell out so I called two days ahead of time to make sure they'd have cakes available (it's an hour drive one way in traffic). The staff I spoke to on the phone (a young lady) was so helpful....she explained the sizes and assured me they'd have one waiting for me. They have 3 sizes for this particular Bundt cake - mini (personal), medium (serves 8-10), and large (serves 12-14). I ended up getting a large and it served our party of 11 very generously and still had leftovers. It was delicious and everyone loved it! The cake was soft and moist with white chocolate chunks, a smooth creamy icing and lots of coconut - rich and heavenly! When I arrived to pick up my cake, the young lady at the counter was very sweet and so helpful. I also ended up getting one of their Cloud 9 cookies, a pineapple muffin, and a lemon blueberry muffin at her recommendation and they were all excellent. The Cloud 9 cookie is like an "everything" cookie - has tons of stuff in it and lovely! But for me, the muffins stole the show - they were absolutely fantastic!! Super moist and extremely flavorful - I'd drive all that way just for more of those! Prices are moderate here - the large Bundt cake was $55 - a tad pricey but was worth it. Inside is very clean with well stocked pastry cases and a couple of tables - but not many - it's mostly a to-go situation. Parking is all metered street parking - they have a parking lot off to the side but the spaces were all labeled for other businesses that I could see. I didn't have any trouble finding easy street parking though.

Yelp
They call it the famous coconut cake. Famous for what? Assaulting your pancreas? It's offensively sweet--so much so, you'd never know coconut was even invited to this disaster. Looks innocent, tastes criminal

Yelp
I have been in the pursuit of a coconut cake that will bring my wife joy for her birthday! Success! Delicious cake and a happy birthday was had by all! I've lived eight minutes away from this location on Ventura blvd for 20 years and had never been inside. Shame on me. Only downside - parking is rough.

Yelp
So we've been hearing about this infamous White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake for a while now. We were wondering if it would be risky business to get or if it was indeed a top gun dessert. Since we live so far and away it was nearly mission impossible to get since they close at 2pm everyday. But one lucky Saturday we made all the right moves and were able to get one. With our eyes wide shut we dove right in and it was super decadent for sure. Let's just say you better like coconut because this cake was no ordinary vanilla sky. The cake was firm and the cream cheese frosting was something to write to your mummy about. However, I might be in the minority report when I say it was too sweet, but of course it was saved when paired with some strong black coffee. We got the large cake and it was very very large and we shared it with a few good men. The whole staff, from the person who took my phone order to the ladies in the shop, were wonderful and didn't make me feel like an outsider. Anyway, to sum it up, the cake was indeed a legend and well worth the color of money.

Yelp
I came by Doans the day before Thanksgiving to pick up a pie for a Friendsgiving party the next day. I hadn't heard of Doans before, but I found it through a quick Yelp search and it seemed pretty popular, so I decided to give it a shot. It's a small storefront with no seating. I think there was one small table outside. There's a small parking lot in the back, otherwise you'll need to use metered street parking. I got here around 1 pm and they were sold out of all pies except their apple pie, so we got that. I asked and they typically have a good variety such as pumpkin, pecan, chocolate pecan, etc. One thing to note is that things aren't cheap here. We paid $55 for the apple pie which is by far the most expensive pie I've ever heard of. I can't help but wonder if pie prices were bumped up for Thanksgiving or whether this is the normal price. After chatting with the employee, we learned the bakery is famous because Tom Cruise orders coconut white chocolate cakes for his friends and acquaintances every year during the holiday season. They also sell a mini version of the cake for $8, so we decided to try it and see what the hype is all about. My family and I all found the coconut white chocolate cake too sweet. We couldn't eat more than a bite or two at a time, so even for such a small cake, it took us a while to finish it. Surprisingly, the coconut flavor didn't come through as strongly as I expected. It was more sweet than anything else. The apple pie was amazing though. Luckily it wasn't nearly as sweet as the cake and comes with a ton of delicious cinnamon apple filling. When you look at my photo of the cross section, you can see there's a lot of thin apple slices layered inside which I found pretty impressive. I'm glad I tried this place once, but I think I prefer my desserts less sweet.

Yelp
This review is ONLY for the famous Tom Cruise Coconut Cake and I do realize you can't please everyone, but I'm totally NOT a fan. I'm not a professional baker, but I do bake a lot and "cake" is my favorite. With that said, "moist" is THE one feature I strive to achieve in each and every one of my cakes. I can't understand how anyone would like a DRY cake. I loved the story about the Tom Cruise cake, and I'm happy I tried it, but for $125 for a regular sized bundt cake, I was shocked it was NOT over the top delicious. I had posted on Facebook and friends were also excited to try, so since I just wanted one slice, I shared the other pieces in hopes to recoup some of the ridiculous price!! OK, so Tom Cruise endorses this cake, so I get the cost. Gotta make money when you can. I hoped to cut it into 12 pieces because everyone was willing to pay $10 per slice to try it, however, I was embarrassed that their slice would have been so tiny, so I cut it into 8 slices instead and ate the rest of the money. Also, IDK why, but I had to wait 2 months for this cake to be delivered. You're a bakery for heaven's sake, but I didn't question this. I've tried SAM'S CLUB's coconut cake which I thought was awful. Well, this is worse, IMO. Super dry AND tasteless. Both the cake AND frosting have no flavor. The frosting has SO MUCH sugar in it, you can actually taste the grit. My teeth hurt just thinking about it. Consensus of my friends (without me saying a word) started coming in and most of the 7 people were negative. One person said it was ok and managed to finish the slice in 3-4 attempts. Now, I'm honestly questioning the story itself about Tom sending this cake to his friends for the holidays, but guess we'll never REALLY know. On a positive note, Gold Belly did a wonderful job in shipping, but yes, the dry ice was no longer apparent once it arrived. I watched the delivery as soon as they said it was shipped and it did arrive the same day, that afternoon. To end, I'm happy I tried this. JUST TO SAY I DID. 4.6 Yelp stars for Doan's Bakery? I'm shocked. See photos, if you care.

Yelp
It has been many years since I first found Doans bakery. I went there before Tom Cruise made them famous for their coconut cake. Success has definitely NOT spoiled their quality because they are still turning out delicious, perfectly baked sweet treats after all these years !!

Yelp
Carrot cake was moist and delicious Popular coconut cake was also very good, a little too sweet but very moist.

Yelp
For a place probably known all over the world for their white chocolate coconut Bundt cake (famously gifted by an A-lis Hollywood star amongst his friends), the staff remained so nice and without air. There isn't a lot of outdoor seating, just a few seats outside by the sidewalk, but the idea is to have your celebrity cake to go and let your friends be awed that you also enjoy the finer cakes in life. As Kirsten Dunst would say, "let them eat cake! And let it be Doan's!"

Yelp
"Tom cruise came review" I got two mini Bundt cakes. $8 each. Pros - cake is decent size. Definitely enough as a dessert for one person. - I have quite a strong sweet tooth. I'd say the decadence and sweetness of this cake is similar to a Cinnabon or your average cheesecake. You have more than 1 and it's a sugar overload. This falls in the same category. - I read a lot of reviews saying the cake was dry. Idk if it has to do with it maybe being delivered or it being a whole cake but the mini ones I got were super moist. Bomb! Cons - none. I'd go back for sure. Overall 9/10

The Tom Cruise Coconut Cake is everything people say it is. I came here after seeing it on the season 3 premiere of Hacks. I got both the mini and cupcake versions. It was so yummy and moist. Will come back again to get a whole cake. Parked at a metered spot close by.

Yelp
We went in to try the famous white chocolate cake but they do not serve slices of the cake only muffins & mini Bundt cakes. We took one of each along with a chocolate croissant & 2 coffees. The staff were amazingly attentive to detail and were all very lovely. The white chocolate muffin/bundt cake were really sweet and delicious but it wasn't anything mind blowing. The chocolate croissant had better flavor profiles in our opinion. The coffee was a pass as well. I would not recommend grabbing a coffee but the cake was good & if ever in the area again I would stop by but I wouldn't go out of my way to go.

Yelp
The white chocolate coconut cake is amazing! AKA The Tom Cruise Cake! The cake is moist, frosting is perfectly sweetened and the amount of coconut on the cake was perfect too! We have purchased this cake many times and it does not disappoint. Everyone loves it! The lemon bars are also delicious! The crust was perfect! We also enjoy supporting a small neighborhood business. Check their hours because they are limited.

Yelp
The baked goods are yummy but the customer service is a bit questionable. My first time visiting, so I asked a few questions about the baked goods and the snippy answers left me questioning, if I wanted to purchase anything. A simple answer would have made a world of difference but instead a snarky well that's the only thing with coconut on it when it obviously wasn't was off putting.

Yelp
I came to try the Tom Cruise cake recently on television and also their Yelp famous Apple Pie. The actual bakery reminded me of a 1960's vintage bakery, S I recollect growing up in the San Fernando Valley. The baker and staff are cute and kind which is a nice way of doing business. Although I was only able to get the coconut Bundt cake, but was able to score their delicious apple pie!

Yelp
Another beautiful and amazing cake. I highly recommend the chocolate muffin cake. It is the most delicious cake I've ever had, and decorations are perfect.

Yelp
I've been hearing about the TC coconut cake for so long, finally got one for Father's Day this year and it did not disappoint! In general, I'm actually not a fan of white chocolate nor coconut because of the texture, but I figured other people who would be eating it with us like it so I'll just have a little bite. Surprise surprise, I actually like the cake!!! Still not a big fan of the coconut but it's not bad with the ratio to the cake! And the white chocolate doesn't have that super intense cocoa butter flavor which is good. It is not cheap, but it is good also quite sweet so you don't eat much of it anyway :) I also got a brownie and lemon bar, both very good as well, I think they were $3.50 or $4 for a little 3x3 square each. As for parking, the tiny parking lot in the back was full, I don't even know if there's any spot for them or just the salon/massage next door actually. There's meter parking, not the easiest just like most places in Woodland Hills.

Yelp
Doan's Bakery is mostly known for their white chocolate coconut cake that Tom Cruise sends out to the masses every December. Would love to try that one someday! I was looking for a birthday cake and ended up getting the lemon with raspberry swirl. There was only one other customer in there at the time so service was quick and easy. There were a variety of cakes, cupcakes, and treats ready to go but you can also order ahead. The cake was pretty good but not great. It seemed a little dry and we ended up scooping most of the icing off. Make sure to not leave it out for more than an hour ;) The cake was a little over $40 and is a great size for about 6-8 people. Overall, the cake looked very pretty (especially with some Harry Potter candles) and always happy to support a small local business!

Yelp
I will just add to the amazing reviews. The coconut cake here is unreal. No one else makes anything like it. I plan to bring some on the plane with me when I travel back to Virginia.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for such a long time, ever since I found out that Tom Cruise orders cakes from here regularly. But it was never close to anywhere I was going too, or on the way to where I needed to be. So when I found out I was gonna be in Woodland Hills for the day I had to make sure I came here!! Now I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise's ideologies. But I can say without a doubt this man has taste!! He definitely knows his desserts!! And the coconut white chocalate (aka Tom Cruise cake) is pretty amazing!! There are evidently 3 different sizes of it. With the small or personal sized bundt cake. Being so sweet, though, you can easily split it among 2-4 people. Then they have a medium sized cake (in the display), as well as a large cake. The small bundle cakes are around 8 bucks give or take. Which is not bad since regular sized cupcakes are going for 5 plus these days. The flavors were amazing!! Lots of coconut shreds everywhere. The icing is extremely sweet and thick. The inside of the cake is soft and moist. Pieces of white chocolate nuggets throughout. It was really good. But the sweetness is definitely overbearing. Most definitely required some black coffee to go with it to temper the sweetness. It was so sweet my teeth were hurting afterwards!! I couldn't eat an entire bundt cake in one sitting. It was just so rich and decadent. Felt like I had to go run a marathon or work out really hard to not feel guilty from eating something so rich and decadent. It's off the main street. So easy to miss unless you know what your looking for. Cuz everyone's just flying by at high speeds. But there's plenty of street parking. They seem to get a lot of to go orders. As the only 2 small table here were covered in to go boxes to put these sweet offerings into. So you kinda gotta get your order and leave. People working the counter are really nice. Everyone saying hello to you and smiling. They also answer all your questions with a smile. Like they actually enjoy their jobs!! They allow you to reserve the cakes for pick up later that day. And you can even pay later when you do pick it up. Which is nice of them. Overall was it worth me driving 60 plus miles for it? Simply put. Yes

Yelp
I have lived in the area for almost 10 years and I found out about Doans Bakery on Tik Tok! So guess what...I headed out there this morning and am I glad I did! It's an adorable bakery with seating outdoors and an amazing assortment of designer cakes, bundtlets, cinnamon rolls (big and small) and brownies (that assortment is amazing)! The staff are friendly and helpful, making it a delight to be there. That sounded corny but it's true! Being the carrot cake lover that I am and always on the hunt for the perfect one that takes me back to my Aunt Dolly's signature carrot cake recipe (in which I can not duplicate even with her recipe)...I finally found it! The perfect amount of spices and ingredients and the frosting which is not to sweet and makes you NOT want to share it! LOL! So make sure you get a few! PS I'll get two next time when my son is out of town...lol! Check out Doans Bakery when you want to make any day special!

Yelp
Heard about this place through the "Tom Cruise cake" mentions all over the place over the years, so I went to see for myself what all the hoopla was about. I'm not at all a white chocolate fan due to its over-the-top sweetness, but I do like coconut, and the aforementioned cake was delish though sweet as expected (I tried the mini bundt version). I ended up trying several different items there, over the course of multiple visits while in the area, and I want to commend the staff for their useful recommendations and suggestions! My personal fav so far is their lemon cup cake, but I'm sure you can find something to love there, given their variety and care!

Yelp
That coconut cake!!! I had it at a party and now drive 30 minutes every few months to get it. I don't even think of myself as a coconut person! The staff is also super helpful too!

Yelp
Thank you Doan's for providing our wedding cake on 10/15/22. It was SO BEAUTIFUL and tasty. Doan's was my choice because they were willing to work with our budget, but mostly because : THEY ARE SO NICE! One phone call with Marina, and I knew I liked her. I knew I could trust her to do great work. She was supportive, kind, and was on my side. They provided the cake, delivered, and placed the topper and flowers on our cake. It was a two tier red velvet cake. Oh! Did I mention it was delicious? Our guest raved about it! Thank you Doan's and Marina! If you need a delicious, beautiful, yet affordable wedding cake from good people - call Doan's!

Yelp
The home of the best cake around - white chocolate coconut Bundt cake!!!! I was first introduced to this delicious creation by friends who lovingly called it "The Tom Cruise" cake. Even the owner of Doan's (an adorable mother son bakery) gives Tom Cruise all the credit for putting them on the map. This cake is so delightful that even my husband, who does not eat sweets, will only eat THIS cake. I drive 45 minutes each way to get it for his birthday every year. It's also my go-to cake when bringing dessert to events as well. The cake is even better than it sounds - a rich Bundt cake with white chocolate chips baked in, topped with just the right amount of cream cheese frosting, and then dusted with the perfect amount of sweet, heavenly shredded coconut. The owner will also tell you this, but it's best when you leave it out of the fridge for 30-45 minutes before serving. Doan's also delivers nationwide through Goldbelly, but, be warned, the shipping is actually more than the cost of this reasonable cake. With tax it comes out to around $40 for the size that serves 8. They also make minis of this cake if you need portion control. Once you try it, you'll be hooked! All of their other creations are equally delicious, but this one is a real standout for the creative combination of flavors.

Yelp
After hearing so many amazing things about their Bundt cakes and The Highly popular TOM CRUISE Coconut Cake I ventured over to check them out Not impressed Cheesecake taste very greasy almost as if they used "duck" fat. The rest of the Bundt cakes were underwhelming- Upside Nice staff Coffee station Plenty of street parking Downside Short hours-

Yelp
Amazing. Nothing more to add. The Cruise Christmas cake was just out to this world. It's a good thing I live in Florida or else I would be going there every week. Even though it's 36 miles away from my family home in Southern California!!! Damn! So so good!
