The 17 Best Desserts In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"We’re still waiting for the day when Tom Cruise ships us a coconut cake, but until then, we’ll head to Doan’s Bakery, a small neighborhood cakeshop in Woodland Hills with a pastry window full of colorful layered cakes. The white chocolate coconut bundt cake–which Tom Cruise famously sends to his celebrity friends during the holidays–has big white chocolate chunks, a thick layer of cream cheese frosting, and a heaping pile of coconut flakes that inevitably scatter as you grab a forkful. And though most people are coming by to pick up this famous coconut dessert, we like their carrot cake even better–the base is moist and nutty with warming spices that are a pleasant contrast to the very sweet cream cheese frosting." - sylvio martins, cathy park

Where to Order the Best Pies in Los Angeles

"Doan’s founder Karen Doan died in April this year, but staff keep her memory present by producing Doan’s outstanding cakes and pies. The bakery offers national shipping on Goldbelly, but locals can simply call the shop and place an order by November 13 to score an apple, pecan, or seasonal pumpkin and sweet potato-pecan pies." - Mona Holmes

The Tom cruise cake: White chocolate coconut Bundt cake

Doan's Bakery

Ny B

Google
Scrumptious cake, well priced, and absolutely gorgeous design! Walked in with a picture of a cake and they replicated it perfectly! Plus, so yummy and very friendly service. Made the gender reveal extra special. Thank you! We'll be back!!

Google
Going for manicure around 3 miles away and taking advantage to make a stop at Doans Bakery, which apparently was said offering Tom Cruise's 'annual Christmas gift'. The cute bakery literally reminded me of typical long-standing one, with simple design that probably has stayed for years. Only 2 sets of tables available with most people only came for 'TO-GO's. I came just right past noon and had quite limited options but still saw some of their signature Tom Cruise cake available. It was moist sponge cake topped with super generous cream cheese frosting with chunks of white chocolate and shredded coconut. Priced at $9, I would say it's pretty big and rich that some people might consider sharing for 2. I'm a sweet tooth and for me I finished one myself but surely felt pretty sugar-high after. Despite some people complaining it being dry, the mini version I got didn't seem to be the case at all. I thought it worth the hype; the sponge cake could be just okay, but the cream cheese with abundant white chocolate was surely the creme de la creme. I wished I was on Tom Cruise's annual Christmas gift list!

Google
Friendly staff. Came here for the viral Tom Cruise coconut Bundt cake. Oh my god, it lived up to the hype. We ended up buying two. Also got the peanut brownie and this was gorgeous too! So good, would recommend here!

Google
Went here for the famous tom cruise cake. I loved that the cake is in individual sizes and reasonable prices. The taste was not as incredible as all the hype. If I came back I would definitely try the fruit cake because that looked pretty delicious.

Google
Came from Australia to try the famous cruise cake. Had to be done. We got the cupcake version of the coconut cake which was unreal arguably better than the Original. We of course then got an 8 inch Bundt cake to go and sat in and ate a mini Bundt cake. All unreal and very worth the trip. The staff were also so lovely, I didn’t get the young girls name behind the counter but she was so willing for a chat and answer all our questions about the famous bakery and the baker came out and said hello. What a lovely team and lovely baked goods if we were staying longer we would have loved to try more so we’ll just have to come back! Thanks again :)

Google
Like other Google reviews, I bought for Xmas gifts (3 @ $109 ea). Unlike the description on Goldbelly none were "fresh" THEY WERE DELIVERED FROM FREEZER WAREHOUSES. Our OH & IL delivers came from Green Rabbit in Indiana. The 3rd from Visalia CA (that one didn't ship from them either n it was going to a CA address) I spoke with Eric, the owner, I asked how long at the warehouse (GB says good for 4 montjs in freezer)who said there was supposed to some QR code inside giving bake date--there is none. They cannot tell you when it was baked or how far into the 4 months good from the freeze you actually are. Like buying a Rolex then finding out it's not a Rolex.

Google
The wife wanted to try the famous Tom Cruise White Chocolate Coconut Cake. I read reviews that it was dry but it was not the case at all. It was very moist and not dry at all. Loved the white chocolate all around the cake. We also got recommended the strawberry shortcake. It wasn't dry at all as well. I'm not sure where the other reviewers are getting that their cakes here are dry but it was not our experience.

Shailesh N.

Google
The White Chocolate Bundt Cake is phenomenal. There’s no price list anywhere in the bakery so figure out by asking the staff (the person who spoke to me was curt). But the food is great. Not a lot of place to sit. Recommend for take out only.

Yelp
Was at a neighborhood party that was serving a white chocolate coconut Bundt cake from here. I had no idea it was famous so it was a true blind taste test on my part. I don't think the host knew either since he mentioned his brother sent it to him. After eating a slice I kept staring at the cake. It was so good I really wanted more but didn't want to be rude. The host must have seen my longing since he insisted I have another slice. Don't have to tell me twice! I kept saying it was one of the best cakes I've tasted. I'm glad I had the chance to try this famous cake since I doubt I will get another chance given the price.

Yelp
Not sure if it's worth driving to The Valley just for cake, but What Would Ethan Hunt Do? Like I'm sure at least 30% of their clientele, I first heard about Doan's when multiple news outlets started posting about the magical White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake that Tom Cruise gifts colleagues and associates every year right before Christmas. Whatever you think of Tom Cruise, he is a towering figure in entertainment and thus a pillar of Los Angeles civic pride... if Pete "Maverick" Mitchell esteems a piece of dessert to this degree, who are we mere mortals to ignore such ambrosia? You can get a whole 10" cake delivered to you anywhere in America for $140... or you can make the trek out to Woodland Hills and get it for much less. For a simple "taste test" if you're counting calories or afraid of commitment, they also have Mini Bundt Cakes about the size of a large slice of cake for individual or shared enjoyment. The cake is good: I wouldn't say it's great... although I suppose to someone like Tom who rarely ever consumes sugar, it probably tastes like Heaven. Sweet but not teeth-achingly so, the mix of cream cheese frosting, coconut flakes, white chocolate chips, and coconut bundt cake really reminds me of something grandma would serve you when you'd go for a visit... Definitely would go great with some hot coffee with lots of cream and sugar. I got a Mini Bundt Cake and a cookie for $21.50... not the most affordable treat but also not an absurd price for something that has reached near-mythical status. Would I drive to The Valley just for this? That's a big HELL NO from me... but if I'm in the area and looking for something sweet and a story to go with it, Doan's Bakery provides a fantastic option.

Yelp
Doan's Bakery was worth trying when I was passing through the area. I tried their famous white chocolate coconut mini bundt cake and it was absolutely divine. The cake was incredibly moist, rich, and perfectly balanced in flavor. The coconut shavings on top added a great texture and the white chocolate completed the sweetness you'd expect. It is easy to see why this cake is so well known. I got two of them to take home.

Yelp
I saw Henry Cavill talk about that Tom Cruise cake that he ate all by himself so of course I had to try it. I visit LA sporadically since moving out after Covid, but this has been on the list and it didn't disappoint. I thought it would be really expensive because of the Goldbelly prices, but they had plenty of the mini Bundt cakes which were all fairly priced for a famous cake. Very sweet, so order coffee and milk with it. They have a couple of tables with a couple of seats, and some outdoor seating so you can hang out to try out your snack.

Yelp
Magical! Heard such amazing reviews about this cake! So I was throwing a Christmas party and I always love to give my guest an experience they will never forget so I try to find new different things to have at my gatherings and wow am I so happy I ordered this cake delivered through Goldbelly so no matter where you live you can buy this gem of a cake!!! Of course if you live in LA it's way more cost effective but I live in OC so getting it shipped just saves me time. I selected the coconut cake but I saw they also have a carrot cake that I need to order next time!! Amazing delivery amazing cake just AMAZING!! Everyone at my Christmas party loved the cake its was the perfect touch!the pieces of white chocolate are just Devine!! If you want to wow your guest at your next gathering order here YUMMY

Yelp
I have stopped in a few times to grab treats to go while passing through. All of their offerings are so good, fresh & tasty. Their cakes are truly the best. Service is always so great. Busy shop so stop in early. Especially around holidays.
google avatar

Nathan N.

Yelp
I came to get a White Chocolate Coconut Cake which they apparently have several of readily in stock. I entered the shop close to closing time but it seemed other people were also getting in their last-minute orders. My mother, who is a huge fan of Tom Cruise, insisted that I follow in his footsteps and buy a white chocolate coconut Bundt cake. Indeed, I did buy one for us to share. The cake aged really well, days after purchase. I worried about it drying out in the refrigerator, but the white chocolate coconut frosting layer may play a hand in helping to seal the moisture in the cake. It's a very sweet cake that you don't need to eat a lot of to feel satisfied. It's very rich, and I felt rich buying it.
google avatar

Crimson E.

Yelp
Small but delightful! This is where Tom Cruise gets his white chocolate coconut Bundt cakes, and they have mini versions to try... Delicious!
google avatar

Christian A.

Yelp
We've been trying to go here for a month and finally had a chance to do so before they closed. (Open 9am-2pm Mon-Sat). Had a chance to try their coconut and carrot Bundt cake and they didn't disappoint. Not too sweet and just the right flavoring. We'll definitely come back for more! Also, when you order a latte, probably be best to choose a syrup or ask to add sugar. Service was quick and the ladies were very polite. Looks like the store and the framed headlines could use some updating. The quality of the product doesn't quite match the look of the place but that's probably not an issue for most people.
google avatar

Toshi I.

Yelp
Had to order the Tom Cruise Coconut White Chocplate cake. Seems best flavors come through at room temperature. I was bringing these for a small dinner get together as a dessert flight. I also ordered the Lemon Cheesecake. All three were great but the Lemon Cheesecake was a stand out. It was tart almost like key lime but not overly sweet. The service was ok. This is a cute little bakery. Street parking.
google avatar

Justine T.

Yelp
Not sure if getting it shipped from Goldbelly changed anything, but I found it to be pretty dry. The frosting was way too sweet, but the cake itself had a nice and light coconut flavor. The white chocolate chips on the bottom were the best part - the slight crunch of the chips added a great texture. I wish the coconut flakes tasted more premium, considering the high price tag. I'm glad I got to try the cake, but it's not that good and definitely not worth the price. Then again, this was through Goldbelly.

Yelp
Yes, I fell into the hype. There's a certain celebrity that sends Doan's White Chocolate Coconut Cakes to his friends as a gift. And, as you can imagine it's not cheap. GF ordered it for my birthday; delivered by Goldbelly. BTW, if you're young you can split this cake into four payments via Klarna. No tracking updates but it arrived on time as described. Instructions said room temperature so I left it out overnight after being delivered with dry ice. Missed opportunity to try the next morning so it went in the fridge. You getting the build up here? FINALLY, day two I'm trying the cake. You know, not being a huge coconut fan I found it paired well with the moist bundt cake and the White Chocolate icing. Serves 12-16 so be prepared. Case in fact with a GF living here, mom invited over to try a slice, and a "Hoover" teenager I ended up sharing with friends and neighbors. Still gave away about a quarter of the cake to roughneck coworkers. Only real issue and this is too be expected over time is the cake was dry by the time I was sharing it with others on maybe day four? This reminded me of the olden days with my grandma on the ranch I live on. Gran Gran, do we work this hard to garden just to give almost all of it away? Maybe there should be a 9 inch option...Otherwise, impressed and thankful for my better half for this extravagant gift. Call me Tom, got an idea for MI:17.

Yelp
I would have given Doan's five stars if the girls behind the counter acted like they gave a crap that we were in the store! It's not like they were busy at all. MAYBE one other customer. Sorry we interrupted your morning ladies! Got a hot tea. The lid wouldn't stay on at all. Almost threw it out after I became so annoyed. Wound up taking the lid off and just being uber careful. The tea was very tasty. Now to the reason we stopped into Doan's in the first place: the White Chocolate Coconut Cake aka the Tom Cruise cake. Got our cake to go as there really wasn't a place to sit down and eat. Took the cake home and when we finally cut into it, it was really good. Would I go back? Maybe if I was in the area again. I'd like to try the lemon cake.
google avatar

Jairo N.

Yelp
I drive 4 hours to get there just for them to be closed due to an "emergency". I called them and checked their website for hours etc and they were open beforehand. I was devastated.

Linda P.

Yelp
Great cinnamon rolls, cookies and cappuccinos Service great, clean environment Nice bakery to just sit and have a pastry
google avatar

Melissa O.

Yelp
I recently learned that this is where the popular Tom Cruise white chocolate coconut cake was from so curiosity got the best of me and I ordered one. It's lovely- not a huge coconut fan but this is pretty tasty and it has a cream cheese based frosting that's not overpowering.
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
Of course, I came by for the famous Tom Cruise Christmas Cake, better known as the White Chocolate Coocnut Cake. Service was fantastic. I picked up my cake 2 days before Christmas and as busy as they were, all three girls working the counter were smiling, being friendly, and moving fast to get orders out! I ordered the medium sized cake which is $40. It's a great size and they say it can feed 4-6 people, I really think you can feed 8-10. The cake itself is moist, soft, and mild flavored. I think that's where the overall cake can improve. The white chocolate frosting is SO sweet. It's pretty overpowering and rich. The coconut flakes on the outside add some contrast in flavor and texture, and there are some crunchy bits inside the cake that I can't quite pinpoint as to what they are. So the cake as a whole isn't bad at all, it's just way too sweet and rich and really, nothing special. Sure, if I get a cake directly from Tom Cruise, it's going to be the best cake I ever ate. But at face value, it's a simple cake. I've had worse, and I've had better.

Yelp
This cake did not disappoint. Not only was it gorgeous, it was a strawberry delight! Marina made every detail as I specified. I highly recommend her artistry.
google avatar

Yelp
Simply put, that white chocolate coconut cake is outstanding. I made a special trip out the bakery while in LA to bring this cake home to AZ.
google avatar

Kumi T.

Yelp
Yes... All hype about the coconut cake that Tom Cruse likes.... It was a good cake but not a WOW cake. The people that work there are nice though.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
It disappoints me to say that this place doesn't live up to the hype (I only heard about Doans through the story about that *one particular celebrity* gifting the white coconut cake to people during the holidays). It's fine though, since I don't really need another reason to expand my waistline xD Upon taking my first bite into the infamous white chocolate coconut bundt cake ($9 for a small) I immediately found it to be overly sweet. While the coconut flavor was there, it was overpowered by all the sugar (maybe cutting the amount of it in half, omitting the white chocolate and using less frosting, then that would be great). It also wasn't the best bundt cake I've had--it wasn't as soft nor fluffy. In addition, the palpable lack of a welcoming atmosphere here is really what earned such a low rating. The employee couldn't have seemed any more indifferent and standoffish, which was unfortunate really. Anyway they have a few seats & tables if you want to eat there, but it's eerily quiet and a bit stuffy inside. Parking is either street or in a small lot behind. There's a limited cafe drink menu available. Overall, glad I finally tried this place but I won't be back ):
google avatar

Loretta A.

Yelp
I never knew this tiny bakery was near me! I found out due to Tom Cruise's famous coconut, white chocolate cake that he gives to his friends every Christmas. I got 2 cupcakes and a small lemon cheesecake. I'm a lemon lover and this did not disappoint! Delicious and tart! I will go back and get a bigger one. The coconut one was also good. Nice if you let it get to room temperature though. Yum!!!
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
Well... well... well... Heard about this bakery. And not mention was informed to get the famous tom cruise coconut cake.... -I guess its tom cruise favorite cake or buys this cake for people... idk... Drive 35 min to see what this place has to offer annnnndddddd.... No bueno my friends!!... It's a bundt cake, and not a cake-cake (get it) Coconut bunft cake was a lil too sweet for my taste buds... Now, I'm always in for a good tasting treat, but I know when its made right. And when its just too sweet... so this place is just average bakery in my opinion... Also got the lemon bar, small but i didn't finish it due to the sweetness... Coffee... was good... nothing to rave about, but decent cup... Service was great, no real interaction but friendly as they can be... Street parking, recommend to go early or they have a parking structure in the back... No real ambience, just get your baked goods and go... couple of seat... One thing that I didn't expect, was that it was empty... for a place that has the "famous" coconut cake i did assume there was going to be a line to buy something.... but there was no line... (know what I mean).... So, doubt i will go back... didn't fully enjoy what I got... If you go.... Enjoy!!....
google avatar

Yelp
Like everyone else, I got to tried the white coconut cake. Since I'm happened to be in near that area like about 20mins away...I popped in on Saturday morning and it was great since metered parkings was empty in the front (they do have parking in the back of the store). The interior is just like any typical bakery,, the service was okey, the 2 girls were seen not too happy to be there. They have several type of favors (I call it a Bundt cake), cupcakes pastries, and coffee. The cake was good, moist and rich, sweet white frosting covered the cake with shredded sweetened. Is it too sweet? Yes for me, but it goes well with cup of hot tea or coffee. But the lemon one was fantastic.

S E.

Yelp
Update - After several emails they reached out to me to make things right. I am happy with the outcome. I ordered the Coconut cake for Thanksgiving, back in September. They didn't ship it until 11/25 which gives a delivery of 11/28. Now I have less than 24 hours to make a wonderful dessert for our gathering. Very disappointed as they could have easily shipped it out to arrive on time. To make matters worse, we will be leaving town so assume it will sit on the front porch for 5 days - I hope the squirrels like the cake.

Christina A.

Yelp
I stopped by Doan's Bakery this afternoon to pick up a few sweet treats for the house, and as always, everything was delicious. My personal favorite is their legendary Tom Cruise White Chocolate Coconut Cake. It's perfectly sweet, full of coconut flavor, and absolutely divine when paired with a bold brewed coffee. My husband, who isn't a coconut fan at all, swears by their Peanut Butter Fudge Bar and the Lemon Shortbread Bar, both rich and perfectly balanced. I also couldn't resist grabbing a couple of their chocolate chip cookies, which were fresh, chewy, and wonderful. The bakery itself has a warm, inviting ambiance that makes it a pleasant stop. Service is always quick and friendly, and there's usually plenty of easy street parking, which makes popping in a breeze.
google avatar

Gary B.

Yelp
It's not easy having a child's bday between Christmas and New Years. That said, Doan's makes ordering a cake for her special day super easy! We've only ever gotten Bday cakes from Doans as well as other special occasions for this reason. Much gratitude to Doans for being awesome.
google avatar

Dong Wook C.

Yelp
Ordered a white chocolate coconut bundt cake from Doan's Bakery through GoldBelly. Yes, I gave into the Tom Cruise hype and my curiosity got the best of me. I just wanted to try this cake once. The cake itself is good but the frosting is very sweet. Warning to those who don't like super sweet desserts. Overall it was a decent cake, but is it worth $130? Probably not. I admit this was an indulgence since a close family member was celebrating a birthday, so I didn't mind spending the money this time.
google avatar

Brian V.

Yelp
4++ OK so full disclosure, this review is just essentially for the cake and the process of ordering through Gold Belly. This place is actually close enough to my buddy's house, which I visit pretty often so I'll be hoping to visit the actual location sometime soon. That said I really can't comment on the ambiance here. So we ordered a White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake for my dad for Father's Day. We were pretty excited since this was the famous cake that is being talked about a lot. I must say - the cake is pretty great. I love the flavors since I'm a big fan of coconut and the texture was great as well. And to me, I don't think this cake was overly sweet. The package came promptly and it was really nicely done as well. The cake was imperfect condition and it was kept cool with dry ice. The cake does feel a little pricey, but it's a pretty large cake and it serves a lot of people. And I was just shopping today for another cake for a friend's birthday and honestly cakes are just pricey at the moment, especially the quality ones. So, hopefully next time I'm visiting my good friend in Encino I'm gonna make that extra bit of trip just to come out here and grab a few items here. Possibly I get to try some other items available as well.
google avatar

Kristina M.

Yelp
I popped in to try the cake everyone seems to talk about. Which I got. However, let me tell you about the lemon cake!!!! I got two lemon cupcakes, a week ago, and they are all I can think about! They were so good. Crumb to frosting ratio was perfect for me, flavor was strong and balanced. The parking is street metered parking. Inside has two two tops. They also serve up coffee and smiles!!! The coffee was good :) The staff was super sweet! They cut my slice for me from the famous cake, and when a passerby came by and wanted to sample it, we struck up a convo and I invited him to have a bite. The staff then sliced the cake shown. Get the lemon cake! Its phenomenal!!!
google avatar

Kim M.

Yelp
Ordered through gold belly the white chocolate coconut cake. It arrived in pristine condition. The packaging was fabulous. The cake was intact and still very cold. Still slightly frozen. The cake does taste like a pound cake with very sweet cream cheese frosting, and coconut on top. The cake was let go to room temperature. It has a stiffness of the poundcake and not soft and moist. I enjoyed trying it but for the price I don't think I would order it again. Maybe I'll try a different cake like a chocolate one next time.
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Doan's is an institution. Meaning when I was a kid, I think they were open and that was a long time ago that shows and gives evidence of what phenomenal bakers. They have their chocolate cake and I'm not a chocolate lover, is to die for. The staff is wonderful incredible and patient if you need a birthday cake go there.
google avatar

Bridget D.

Yelp
Delicious. So many yummy sweet treats to choose from, it's hard to pick one. The raspberry lemon muffin was spectacular. I'll be back to try some others! The staff were so friendly and kind. There are a couple of tables inside and a couple outside for seating. Great place!!!

Brooke T.

Yelp
Yummy, it is the White Chocolate Coconut bundt cake. Splendid carb treat for the week.

Yelp
Shout out to lovely Yelper @TerriC - her review and instagram post led to my discovery of their famous Tom Cruise cake! I just had to secure one for an upcoming work party and it was a huge hit! Tom Cruise gifts their White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cakes to all his Hollywood friends every holiday season and I can see why! I read a lot of stories saying these cakes sell out so I called two days ahead of time to make sure they'd have cakes available (it's an hour drive one way in traffic). The staff I spoke to on the phone (a young lady) was so helpful....she explained the sizes and assured me they'd have one waiting for me. They have 3 sizes for this particular Bundt cake - mini (personal), medium (serves 8-10), and large (serves 12-14). I ended up getting a large and it served our party of 11 very generously and still had leftovers. It was delicious and everyone loved it! The cake was soft and moist with white chocolate chunks, a smooth creamy icing and lots of coconut - rich and heavenly! When I arrived to pick up my cake, the young lady at the counter was very sweet and so helpful. I also ended up getting one of their Cloud 9 cookies, a pineapple muffin, and a lemon blueberry muffin at her recommendation and they were all excellent. The Cloud 9 cookie is like an "everything" cookie - has tons of stuff in it and lovely! But for me, the muffins stole the show - they were absolutely fantastic!! Super moist and extremely flavorful - I'd drive all that way just for more of those! Prices are moderate here - the large Bundt cake was $55 - a tad pricey but was worth it. Inside is very clean with well stocked pastry cases and a couple of tables - but not many - it's mostly a to-go situation. Parking is all metered street parking - they have a parking lot off to the side but the spaces were all labeled for other businesses that I could see. I didn't have any trouble finding easy street parking though.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday afternoon at around 1:40pm and there was no line (store closes at 2pm). Service was awesome and the selections were still great. We moved to Woodland Hills 11 years ago and never tried the bakery until today. So happy that we did!

Yelp
Like everybody else reviewing, I too came here because of Mr Mission Impossible. When I first took a bite out of the coconut cake, I thought, "Oh, it's just okay..." but then I kept eating it and eating it, and weeks later I can't stop thinking about it. It may be one of my favorite desserts in Los Angeles (well, technically Woodland Hills) I bought the cake for a birthday party, and days before the pickup, I called to reserve it but the receptionist said no need. Just show up. When I did show up that morning, there were tons of cakes available, and other treats too. I didn't have a chance to try anything else besides the latte, which was average, but I would definitely head back to Doan's for the Tom Cruise holiday special until he one day puts me on his gift list.

Yelp
I came by Doans the day before Thanksgiving to pick up a pie for a Friendsgiving party the next day. I hadn't heard of Doans before, but I found it through a quick Yelp search and it seemed pretty popular, so I decided to give it a shot. It's a small storefront with no seating. I think there was one small table outside. There's a small parking lot in the back, otherwise you'll need to use metered street parking. I got here around 1 pm and they were sold out of all pies except their apple pie, so we got that. I asked and they typically have a good variety such as pumpkin, pecan, chocolate pecan, etc. One thing to note is that things aren't cheap here. We paid $55 for the apple pie which is by far the most expensive pie I've ever heard of. I can't help but wonder if pie prices were bumped up for Thanksgiving or whether this is the normal price. After chatting with the employee, we learned the bakery is famous because Tom Cruise orders coconut white chocolate cakes for his friends and acquaintances every year during the holiday season. They also sell a mini version of the cake for $8, so we decided to try it and see what the hype is all about. My family and I all found the coconut white chocolate cake too sweet. We couldn't eat more than a bite or two at a time, so even for such a small cake, it took us a while to finish it. Surprisingly, the coconut flavor didn't come through as strongly as I expected. It was more sweet than anything else. The apple pie was amazing though. Luckily it wasn't nearly as sweet as the cake and comes with a ton of delicious cinnamon apple filling. When you look at my photo of the cross section, you can see there's a lot of thin apple slices layered inside which I found pretty impressive. I'm glad I tried this place once, but I think I prefer my desserts less sweet.

Yelp
We ordered our cake from here for our wedding on March 29 and they allowed us to put in the order around 2 weeks before the wedding. The ordering process was okay; I called in to ask about placing the order and was given their email to send information about the type of cake I was looking for. Whoever emailed back told me to just call in and place my order. Overall, I felt just "okay" about the cake. It was cute and served its purpose for the cake cutting photos, but it definitely had its flaws. I felt that the writing came out cute but looked sloppy and like it was piped with a shaking hand. The icing laced on the sides was also sloppy and didn't really look frilly or lacy at all. I feel at the price point, the piping should have been a lot better/neater. As for the flavor, the cake gets 1 star. When I discussed fillings with the bakery, they had told me they had raspberry jam as one of the filling options. I thought this sounded nice, so selected that. At the wedding, I was looking forward to finally cutting the cake and sharing that first bite with my husband. We cut into it to find that no, it did not have raspberry jam, but instead had raspberry buttercream. The raspberry buttercream paired with the white buttercream on the outside of the cake, was much too sweet and overpowering. The overall flavor of this cake was just Sugar. None of our wedding party or other guests wanted any of this cake (that cost over $100), and instead our guests preferred the basic sheet cake we got from Costco. We were really looking forward to this cake. It was cute, but overall was a disappointment. I wouldn't order a custom cake from here again. I would come back for their Tom cruise coconut cake.

Yelp
Service was great. Almost bought one of their green hoodies. The famous coconut cake given as a gift by Tom Cruise was very good, not great. Could have been that it was in the fridge for a few hours but it did pull it out an hour before eating. Very dense. Sweetness was not overpowering and you better love coconut, which I do. Not as moist as I'd hoped but still very good

Yelp
This review is ONLY for the famous Tom Cruise Coconut Cake and I do realize you can't please everyone, but I'm totally NOT a fan. I'm not a professional baker, but I do bake a lot and "cake" is my favorite. With that said, "moist" is THE one feature I strive to achieve in each and every one of my cakes. I can't understand how anyone would like a DRY cake. I loved the story about the Tom Cruise cake, and I'm happy I tried it, but for $125 for a regular sized bundt cake, I was shocked it was NOT over the top delicious. I had posted on Facebook and friends were also excited to try, so since I just wanted one slice, I shared the other pieces in hopes to recoup some of the ridiculous price!! OK, so Tom Cruise endorses this cake, so I get the cost. Gotta make money when you can. I hoped to cut it into 12 pieces because everyone was willing to pay $10 per slice to try it, however, I was embarrassed that their slice would have been so tiny, so I cut it into 8 slices instead and ate the rest of the money. Also, IDK why, but I had to wait 2 months for this cake to be delivered. You're a bakery for heaven's sake, but I didn't question this. I've tried SAM'S CLUB's coconut cake which I thought was awful. Well, this is worse, IMO. Super dry AND tasteless. Both the cake AND frosting have no flavor. The frosting has SO MUCH sugar in it, you can actually taste the grit. My teeth hurt just thinking about it. Consensus of my friends (without me saying a word) started coming in and most of the 7 people were negative. One person said it was ok and managed to finish the slice in 3-4 attempts. Now, I'm honestly questioning the story itself about Tom sending this cake to his friends for the holidays, but guess we'll never REALLY know. On a positive note, Gold Belly did a wonderful job in shipping, but yes, the dry ice was no longer apparent once it arrived. I watched the delivery as soon as they said it was shipped and it did arrive the same day, that afternoon. To end, I'm happy I tried this. JUST TO SAY I DID. 4.6 Yelp stars for Doan's Bakery? I'm shocked. See photos, if you care.

Yelp
So we've been hearing about this infamous White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake for a while now. We were wondering if it would be risky business to get or if it was indeed a top gun dessert. Since we live so far and away it was nearly mission impossible to get since they close at 2pm everyday. But one lucky Saturday we made all the right moves and were able to get one. With our eyes wide shut we dove right in and it was super decadent for sure. Let's just say you better like coconut because this cake was no ordinary vanilla sky. The cake was firm and the cream cheese frosting was something to write to your mummy about. However, I might be in the minority report when I say it was too sweet, but of course it was saved when paired with some strong black coffee. We got the large cake and it was very very large and we shared it with a few good men. The whole staff, from the person who took my phone order to the ladies in the shop, were wonderful and didn't make me feel like an outsider. Anyway, to sum it up, the cake was indeed a legend and well worth the color of money.

Yelp
It has been many years since I first found Doans bakery. I went there before Tom Cruise made them famous for their coconut cake. Success has definitely NOT spoiled their quality because they are still turning out delicious, perfectly baked sweet treats after all these years !!

Yelp
The white Chocolate- coconut Bundt cake is to die for! A wonderful treat! This is a family owned and run small shop with fresh, excellent quality ingredients and delectable items on offer.

Yelp
My son bought the coconut white chocolate cake that were a best seller, but I was amazed it wasn't that good. The frosting was passable however the cake was dry as can be and for this alone I wouldn't recommend spending the money. I could get better, taster and for a fraction of the price at a grocery bakery!

Yelp
Doan's Bakery is mostly known for their white chocolate coconut cake that Tom Cruise sends out to the masses every December. Would love to try that one someday! I was looking for a birthday cake and ended up getting the lemon with raspberry swirl. There was only one other customer in there at the time so service was quick and easy. There were a variety of cakes, cupcakes, and treats ready to go but you can also order ahead. The cake was pretty good but not great. It seemed a little dry and we ended up scooping most of the icing off. Make sure to not leave it out for more than an hour ;) The cake was a little over $40 and is a great size for about 6-8 people. Overall, the cake looked very pretty (especially with some Harry Potter candles) and always happy to support a small local business!

Yelp
The cupcakes were moist and there were so many great flavors that I've tried. The coconut was excellent but I couldn't eat any one of them in one setting. They are large and very sweet. They are worth the $4.50 each.
