With all the great reviews and Doc's social media, I've been anxious to check it out for myself. Their burger features are what always catch my eye.
They have great a lunch deal Mon-Fri from 11am-2pm (the bartender told us it goes till 4pm). You can get a regular cheeseburger (no specialty burgers) or beef on weck with 5 chicken wing and fries for only $15. This is a lot of food, and with all the components, you would think smaller portions would be served, but that's not the case. We ordered one of these deals and the Burger Special of the Day, which was a steak burger with A1 aioli, sautéed onions and jalapenos, bacon, and red onion. The burgers were a bit overcooked; more of a well-done then a medium. The aioli, onions, and jalapenos made up for the over-doneness on the steak burger. And then there is the fact that there were so many other goodies to eat, I wasn't worried about the burgers.
The chicken fingers are huge! One order was 5 fingers plus a good amount of crinkle cut fries; this could easily be shared. I know there is nothing special to this frozen food, but they hit the spot. Crispy coating and perfectly sauced. The blue cheese was very bold and had a strong sour cream flavor. Definitely an acquired taste, but if you aren't scared of a pungent blue cheese, this should be right up your alley!
The wings were good, an average Buffalo wing. The kitchen accidentally made BBQ instead of Smitty medium, but the bartender and cook were super friendly and sent out a new order with a couple extra wings. We enjoyed the Smitty mediums the best. (Smitty = blend of spices added to your choice of mild, medium, hot. The spices definitely bring the sauce to the next level of deliciousness). The bbq sauce is a thin, sweet sauce.
We also got to try the Forty Fries, which were their crinkle cut fries shaken in a garlicky butter with sprinkled parm. For us, they sounded better than they were. There just didn't seem to be much flavor to them. These extra calories weren't worth it.
The food took awhile, but it was understandable as the lunch crowd was likely bigger than usual since it was a holiday. The bartender not only took care of everyone at the bar, she also served all the tables. Although we could have used more check-backs for re-fills and such, this is no fault to the server/bartender; she was as attentive as she could be.
There was plenty of entertainment with all the TVs, shuffleboard, and darts. The bathrooms weren't the best, but I was there for the food, not the toilet.
Overall, a good spot to check out for some pub grub. A lot of friendly Buffalonians hang out here!
