"This breakfast and lunch joint used to house an old doctor’s office, but instead of pharmaceutical pamphlets or jars of mystery candy, you’ll now find people enjoying pancakes, biscuits topped with gravy, and breakfast sandwiches. Go for the Doc Taylor, which comes with a fried egg, bacon, cheese, and grilled parmesan tomatoes on an onion roll and packs a ton of savoriness in each bite. The interior dining space has that old-town feel you only get from eating in someone’s living room, and the patio seating is great for enjoying some sunshine and the ocean breeze.  " - anne cruz

Google
The food was not what I was expecting due to all the 4 and 5 star ratings. I got the heart attack meal and my wife had the breakfast burrito my the steak was over cooked and and my wife had egg shells inside of her burrito. Waiting to be seated was fairly quick but the wait for a waiter to offer us coffee or water took too long and it wasn't even busy.

Google
First time here. The place is an old house near the beach converted into a restaurant. We got seated right away. I was prepared for a wait due to it being a popular place. Maybe because we got there b4 9am? Anyway, the service was outstanding and so quick ! It was amazing. Staff were friendly and professional. Food was good. Party of 5 left fat and happy lol

My first time coming here. All the times I've been to Virginia Beach and I didn't know that it was right there in plain sight. If you didn't know it was there you would miss it. It's a little house right in the middle of the block, but when you walk inside it greets you with a powerful punch. It was pretty busy inside today for a Saturday, but we were seated pretty quick. The menu has a lot to choose from and also the prices are very reasonable. I ordered the heart attack and it was very good. You also get large portions of food also. I would definitely come here again and again. The server was very attentive and also remembered everything we ordered without writing one thing down. Great service.

Google
I always enjoy it here. I come for their specialty corned beef hash where they add real corned beef. They've changed the preparation from chunky pieces to shredded pieces of corned beef. I miss the chunky pieces though.

Google
We love Doc Taylor's. It's a very chill vibe with inexpensive food. It's easy to miss because the front looks a little wonky but I like them better than most popular breakfast joints at Virginia Beach. The service is fast so you're also in and out quick so you can carry on with the rest of your day.

Jason durbin

Google
Just an overall great place. The fast friendly service once seated is amazing. Almost as good as the food. I will be eating here every time I come back. The biscuits and gravy were like Gramma cooked them herself. I also loved the open kitchen, it's rare to find short order cooks with speed and quality combined.

Google
Such a fun little spot near the beach! Great food, food prices, and staff were awesome!

Google
Here on vacation and found this hole in the wall breakfast place. We had eggs Benedict and Bloody Mary’s and everything was delicious. Will definitely come back!!

D d.

Yelp
Great food, friendly efficient service. Good way to start the day. Pancakes and over, very easy eggs along with bacon!

Kasey P.

Yelp
In the summer time the lines have been long but we stopped since we came after the season was over. Food was just okay, nothing exceptional. I am glad we didn't wait a while to get in.

Ron G.

Yelp
Good cheap breakfasts, morning Bloody Mary's, strong coffee, quaint old house and friendly staff. Locals recommend!

Michelle B.

Yelp
Some of the best service we had in Virginia Beach. Friendly girl who was more than willing to split checks without hesitation. The breakfast sandwich was so good. The tomato with the Parmesan was great. I am not much of a tomato person so that was great. The feel is a converted house. How can you not appreciate it? Great spot to walk to. Recommend to get there early for breakfast. It fills up but worth a wait. Everyone was happy with it.

Lara T.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service and fun atmosphere. The coffee was really good. I'll definitely be back.

Andrew S.

Yelp
It's pretty good. I think it has a local following. Sort of an older building. Service was good food was good

Art H.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast. Anytime we go to Virginia Beach for vacation we make it a point to stop there to eat. Worth the wait!

Yelp
I am so glad we went to this spot for pre sand soccer fuel. We arrived on a Sunday at 8 and our 4 was seated quickly. The food was served - tasty and quick - no frills. We got The Doctor's Nola surprise - Dr Tuttle's French Toast (small - plenty for my 10 yo) - Corpsman Ham & Cheese and 2 sides of crispy hashbrown (ask for it how you like it). There were plenty of cheap drink specials but I opted for coffee - which was strong and delicious. The place looks like an out of place house on the resort strip, but it was filled with polite and nice hospitality and walls filled with history. Definitely a locals spot with folks seated at the counter to watch the chefs whip up their dishes.

Yelp
This whole in the wall restaurant is a must try! We tried it last year when we were in town and knew we had to come back! Food is reasonably priced, quick, hot and delicious. We sat at the counter both times and were so impressed with the cooks! The bartender Ronnie was super fast and did a great. Job. Bonus mimosas are only 3.25.

Sally C.

Yelp
This is a classic Virginia Beach breakfast joint. Fancy? No. Good service? Yes. Fast breakfast once you sit? Yes. Quaint? Yes. Inexpensive? YES! If you are looking for something fancy this is not it. Basic breakfast but they do it well and fast. Right at the oceanfront in a converted house. Love the charm. Be prepared to wait on the weekends especially in the summer. Up to 2 hours. But that's okay, have a few mimosas or Bloody Marys and sit outside and relax until your beepy thing goes off. :) Nigel took good care of us and we got our food fast and were never without a drink, including water. I got the Doc Taylor which was delicious! I substituted the fried egg with no problem and that parmesan tomato was so good. Served with a side of red potatoes which were good but needed a little salt. But I would rather add it and control it then the kitchen. For me this is a perfect breakfast place - fast and cheap. I don't want fancy at breakfast....I want bacon and eggs. They do have parking but it can be tough so if you can walk, ride a bike or carpool. Recommend for tourists and locals.

Danny L.

Yelp
Great breakfast food and drinks. Go early on busy days/weekends or expect to wait this local joint is incredibly popular with locals and tourists alike. Expect to wait 30-90 minutes if you arrive after 9:00 on a busy Saturday. They have very basic and more creative breakfast fare that are all delicious. I've never been for lunch.

James N.

Yelp
Awesome! Delicious diner food. I suggest sitting at the counter because the gentlemen working the grill are hilarious. Super kind servers too. I went with the Orderly breakfast sandwich and even bought a tshirt! What a stellar start to a beach day. And the place is in a house...A HOUSE! The setting makes you feel like you're visiting a relative. So warm and inviting. This is a new Virginia Beach favorite of mine.

Carlyn P.

Yelp
Doc Taylors has excellent food, service, and prices. The location is in a house which is super cute. The setting makes it comfortable. They do have parking in the back so check the lot out first before you pay for street parking. I ordered the blueberry pancakes, scrambled egg whites, and pork sausage patties. I've been working on eating half of my meal to save calories, but this time I said "eff it." LOL. The food was so good. I love brunch drinks. Doc Taylors has the following $3 drinks: *mimosas: orange juice and champagne *manmosa: orange juice, vodka and champagne *screwdrivers: orange juice and vodka *greyhounds: grapefruit juice and vodka *bloody mary: tomato juice, vodka, and other stuff I wanted to try something different so I ordered the Greyhound. Its no ones fault, but this was the worst drink I've had. Lol. Silly me for thinking that they were going to use pink grapefruit juice. Nope....these folks used regular grapefruit juice. The bitterest of juice with vodka. Meg was our server and she was so kind. I told her that the Greyhound shouldnt be on the menu. Lol. I asked her for a shot of sprite to balance the drink. She offered to switch the drink for something else, but I chose to stand by my greyhound decision. Once I added the sprite, it was good. I love Doc Taylors. The music is great, the cooks are kind and silly, and the environment is very homey.

Daegan S.

Yelp
Great food and quick service! Fills up quick in the summer so there may be a bit of a wait. Casual dress. History of Doc's pics all over. Tight dining area. Great Bloody Mary's! Good value for the money!

Kwame S.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall spot that serves up Southern comfort food. We stopped by Doc Taylor's for an easy, breezy brunch, and everyone in our brunch party was pleased with our dining outcomes. For my brunch delights, I went with a chipped beef and gravy dish (unfortunately, I forgot the funny name associated with the dish). The chipped beef and gravy were served over two pieces of Texas toast. Actually, I do not think that I ever had that combination. From my experience, this dish is typically served over 1-2 biscuits. That said, the Texas toast did not hinder the dish. In fact, the Texas toast gave the dish a bit of a French toast vibe. Unfortunatley, I found the gravy to be a bit bland, causing me to dump quite a bit of pepper, salt, and Tabasco sauce on my plate. Since no brunch is completel without an adult beverage, Doc Taylor's has you covered with brunch cocktails starting at $3.75. This list includes: Blood Marys, mimosas, screwdrivers, Greyhounds, and champagne spritzers. The service was pretty awesome, and the staff was great. Although Doc Taylor's has parking, it is limited so you might have to park in a metered spot or a parking garage, especially if it's a nice day.

Virginia R.

Yelp
I love this breakfast joint at the oceanfront front. It's a house turned into a restaurant. They are open for breakfast and lunch. The service is always great. There is usually a wait but there is a building next door you can order drinks at while you wait. I had the Crab Benedict and while it's usually amazing....the crab wasn't as fresh this time and had an awful fishy smell. Let's just say my tummy hasn't been ok for a day. Honestly, every other time I order it, it's usually always great. Everyone has an off day. I'll always come back.

Steve W.

Yelp
Great breakfast stop. Biscuits and gravy, Parmesan tomatoes and sweet potato pancakes were excellent. Prices are very reasonable.

Rob A.

Yelp
We've been going to Doc Taylor's for quite a few years and they never disappoint. Their Parmesan grilled tomatoes are the absolute best, and if you really like them they add an egg and call it the Doc Taylor (formerly known as the Ray Ray). The mimosas, manmosas, and bloody Mary's are all great depending on your taste. The service provided by Roni at the bar cannot be beat, he takes great care of all of his customers. This place is a great atmosphere and a long history of proving great food and service to the VA Beach community and our visitors that enjoy coming from all over the place.

Shayne S.

Yelp
Good old home cooking with quick service and outstanding bloody Mary's. chippy gravy great the corn patch is OK and the sausage gravy fantastic top. If you don't get served in 30 minutes, I would be surprised.

Melenda M.

Yelp
This restaurant appears to be a former residence. Food was great-we had patty melt and the doc Taylor breakfast sandwich which were amazing.

Hannah H.

Yelp
We really enjoyed Doc Taylor's for breakfast while we were in the area! They have a breakfast and a lunch menu, but we came early on a weekend, and there was already a line! We ordered: +Grandma Ellen's Creamed Chipped Beef - with pan gravy over Texas toast +Chocolate Chip pancakes, in Mickey Mouse version +Blueberry pancakes +Eggs Benedict ala Graz - poached eggs on top of Canadian bacon, served up on a toasted English muffin with a homemade hollandaise sauce with a side of hash browns +a side of chicken sausage +a side of cheddar grits I loved that they don't judge a non-kid (but, a kid at heart!) like me when I requested my pancakes to be in Mickey Mouse shape - HA! All the food arrived hot, fresh, and tasty - the fruit was perfectly ripened and sweet. Service was fun, friendly, and a good time! I can see why this place is a local favorite and is always packed! Limited street parking around the area. +good place for breakfast +go early to grab a spot in line +friendly service! +limited street parking in the area

Matt G.

Yelp
It's a place you wouldn't stop by unless you knew what you were looking for. Great cold A/C, low prices, fast smiling service , and this crazy Cadillac item on the menu that my wife was looking forward to... but the included 2 Beach Bums weren't hot guys holding her hand on the sand. Didn't buy it, but $3.25 mimosas and Bloody Mary's were a treat. Great crunchy hash browns, thick toast under chipped beef gravy... good start to the day...

Bob M.

Yelp
While on our valentine vacation at the Va. Beach Holiday Inn on 21st street we decided to eat a breakfast here. It appears to be an old beach house converted to a restaurant only open for breakfast and lunch a few days a week. The food was delivered quickly after our orders and both were very good. I had scrambled eggs with bacon and a couple of blueberry pancakes. My wife had the cheese and ham omelet. Friendly service and room for families. Not a quiet place but inviting with the decor. Parking is tight. It was busy for being in the winter season so it must be good.

Wendy J.

Yelp
Literal best vibe and best food ever! The restaurant was so homey. You couldn't decide what to eat because everything on the menu looked phenomenal. We had French Toast, Eggs Benedict and the Orderly sandwich. 12/10 recommend. We had ever better service! Allyssa G was incredible. So chill yet so attentive. The PERFECT type of server. We will def be back on every vacay moving forward! Can't wait to live here and it'll be our go to spot.

Aric F.

Yelp
Great home-y place with great breakfast comfort food, friendly servers, and all without breaking the bank! Great place to take the family.

Amanda P.

Yelp
Doc Taylor's is definitely a hole in the wall breakfast spot! It's a historical house that turned into a restaurant. It's a great local place to eat classic American breakfasts and drinks for a good price. There's always a wait time if you go during tourist season but there's a bar and outdoor seating to buy the time. Parking: Doc Taylor's shares a parking lot in the back of the restaurant with Tautogs (the restaurant next to it for dinner). It's limited parking on a first come first serve basis. If you do not find parking in the lot, it's street parking unfortunately that's metered. Food: I ordered the Dr. Kathryn's Single Shot and The Right Side for my boyfriends son. We added chocolate chips to the pancakes and he loved them. Bacon was nice and crispy on both dishes. Eggs were cooked over easy and my toast was perfectly toasted. My hash browns were cold and tasted stale. The server was able to send me a fresh plate of hash browns with no issues. Service: My server was Lauren and she gave us great service! Quick and attentive to our needs! We had a mishap where I took my boyfriends son to the bathroom (he's too little to go on his own). When we came back, the busser cleared our table and food. I was pretty much done with mine so I didn't mind, but my boyfriends son was upset about his pancakes. Our server was able to order the same short stack on the house for this issue. I've been to Doc Taylor's over the years and it just seems like the restaurant needs a little face lift. I understand it's supposed to be divey, but the air smelled kind of musky and the flies in the restaurant were a little out of control that it turns me off from wanting to visit as often.

Reza G.

Yelp
The food was great. People very friendly I recommend this place for bf Beach Doc Taylors

Vale S.

Yelp
Dry cute setting in an old house. The server was very nice. We ordered biscuits and gravy and the classic two eggs, bacon hash browns. Biscuits and gravy surprisingly needed salt. Average for taste and texture. Medium over eggs were a little overcooked but the disappointing surprise was very dry hash browns and not much of them. Coffee was standard. Prices reflect this review. Too bad because it's a very cute setup. It was busy too.

Martin D.

Yelp
A notch above your basic greasy spoon but with a full bar! I had the two eggs, bacon (nice and crispy), hash browns, a biscuit and an Irish coffee (it was almost 9am). It was just what I expected and what I got. I sat at the counter to watch the cooks do their thing I will definitely be back!

Ellen C.

Yelp
This local restaurant is located in between Atlantic Ave and Pacific Ave on 23rd St. Super cute and unassuming. Prices are reasonable to feed your family, so I'm sure it's a hit with tourists during the summer also. They have a parking lot in the back of the restaurant. If you park on the street in front of the restaurant, you have to pay. My husband is a local who has never tried this restaurant until now. He had the biscuit & sausage gravy. He loved it. He got a side of red potatoes and bacon. I got "The Left Side" which I had scrambled with Monterey Jack cheese, bacon and French toast. So good. Simple. Not pretentious. Great place. We will be back, but not during tourist season.

TJ M.

Yelp
Docs was a decent brunch spot. Service was friendly. We worried that that the restaurants A/C wasn't working when we walked in, but they seated us on the covered patio and the temperature was just fine. Eggs were perfectly cooked, pancakes were fluffy and delicious, and coffee was warmed up with frequency.

Jessica S.

Yelp
We are locals so we love Doc's year round. Got our last breakfast in for a while with the beach craze beginning. Never a bad choice! Always feels like a comfy at home breakfast that's inexpensive AND delicious! A must try when in VB. Also shout out to our server Alyssa she was great!!!

Marlene D.

Yelp
We had some Awesome food in a little homey atmosphere. It was definitely Worth the 1/2 wait. I love to find these little gems, and this was definitely a good find.

Kia C.

Yelp
We were in VA Beach for the weekend and looking for a breakfast spot. We asked the hotel staff for a recommendation and they suggested Doc Taylor's. In our personal search it was also high on the list. The service was quick and friendly. Food was good and prices affordable. We will go back.

mechtelde h.

Yelp
I thought I already reviewed this place, but Yelp is asking. The food is good, the ambience is charming, the waiter was solicitous, it's in a sweet part of the oceanfront, the beer was fantastic, so you could say I have no complaints. I used the bathroom, and that was clean. The prices are a bit high. But because they were one of the only places open that night, and so close to Christmas, I didn't even care. The rockfish was caught that day or maybe the day before. It was so fresh and tender, and the smashed potato mixed with goat cheese was out of this world. I will go back.

Amber S.

Yelp
Bloody Mary's were great and just under $4. The food was great! It was a 45 minute wait, but the full bar next door was helpful. Service was great. I'm super picky about biscuits and gravy because I'm an Appalachian girl, but it was delicious. The corned beef hash was cooked to perfection. I like it to be a bit crunchy. It was. No complaints.

Anne F.

Yelp
Doc Taylor's is one of my biggest weekend cravings. I still fantasize about that grilled cheese I had here a few years ago. But in the months since that review I have continued to return for my brunch cravings and those $2.50 mimosas. I've also learned you can add bacon to their bloody marys too which feels like a good reason to update my review, I also just wanted to show a little love to one of my OG favorites at the beach. Everything from my original review still stands and I am so happy that they are still doin' their thing the best they can during this pandemic. I see that their most recent COVID update (from April) says that they are closed, I can confirm that that is an old update and they are open. Wishing them all the success during all of this. --- I simply adore this place. I have been here with friends, coworkers, and even on a date. There is something for everyone on the menu. You can dress up and have "fancy brunch" or you can come in in an outfit that may or may not be what you slept in last night and still feel right at home. The beach cottage vibe brings back the "old Virginia Beach" vibes and I just love it. Full disclosure- I usually only visit during the "off-season" so the noise is rarely over the top and I typically wait no more than 5-10minutes for a table if I even wait at all. During the summer months you may want to plan for a longer experience. The food is incredible- they don't try to get too hipster/creative with their standard offerings which allows them to just offer an great brunch menu with affordable prices. Don't even get me started on their $2.50 Bloody Marys and Mimosas- oh yeah!

Michelle A.

Yelp
Below average. I had much higher expectations as I heard it was a local favorite and it had some favorable reviews. Service was good, staff very nice. However, the food is way overpriced and sub par at best. The bacon tasted like straight grease. Old building, not very well kept. Definitely do not recommend.

Bella J.

Yelp
It is a breakfast spot in Virginia beach, close from the boardwalk, which is a major advantage in their favor. 1. Food - 3.5 stars It is totally okay. Nothing special. The toast was okay, the eggs were just done fine and edible, bacon was way too much done and didn't taste too well, hash browns were actually bad, which is something I never thought I'd say. Bloody Mary was drinkable, but not that great etc. In short, it is a decent place to eat, not great, not bad at all. 2. Service - fine Our server lady was nice, but was hard to find suddenly and we had to go to the bar and asked to pay since we had to leave. 3. Ambience- looks like someone's house from the outside, and it is an interesting set up inside. What would've been a patio and living room areas are all dining areas and feels cozy since it is after all in a normal house. I personally hated the cold air conditioner when the outside temperature was barely 70F. I was hoping I would get warm by sitting inside, but no. If you are in the vicinity and don't have car to drive to places like Commune to have breakfast, it is a decent spot. It will get you fed and happy. It is just not some great culinary experience spot and it is cool.

Rosie B.

Yelp
Cute spot. Great and tasty comfort food, friendly staff and homie atmosphere. Reasonable prices

Diondra L.

Yelp
Great no frills breakfast spot. Cozy location as the restaurant looks to be a repurposed house. The Stroke was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Sweet potato pancakes were also a hit. Don't leave without your $3.50 mimosas, plenty of juice options to pair with your champagne!

Angela M.

Yelp
Great place, great atmosphere and great service. I come here evertime I come here to visit!

Adrian D.

Yelp
Very chiLL spot. Hostess welcomed me and was seated immediately. Very chILL spot . Feels like I'm home , relaxing . I ordered "the left side" And had some coffee which was very good . The servers are attentive and the food came quickly and was good . I like how everybody appears to be cool. Diverse crowd and servers which I also liked.

Rich K.

Yelp
Great service, but definitely average food. We had ordered french toast, eggs, hash browns, bacon, and coffee. They were good but ok tasting. This is definitely a good gathering place for a few people. Great cozy space to eat.

Cassie W.

Yelp
We visited during restaurant week... My date and I both ordered the fried goat cheese spinach salad. For entrees, I ordered the pineapple chicken stir fry, and my date had the short rib flatbread. Everything was delicious. The drinks were great, too. We had bloody marys and a greyhound. But the most impressive thing was our server. She was very attentive and friendly. She took great care of us. We'll be back again, for sure!

Clete S.

Yelp
Superb food and service. Meg took care of us and did an exceptional job. Not very busy today but if it was busy, I would still wait this is the food is worth it. I had an egg white omelette that was exceptional and the biscuits and gravy To me if there is a wait; there's a reason, the food. Great place here at Dr. Taylor's and I would highly recommend five out of five stars.

Tara M.

Yelp
Looking for a simple and quick breakfast? This is great, you can order a typical breakfast entrees as well as local favorites like the Doc Taylor's Sandwich. I ordered the local favorite and it was brought out quickly! The parmesan tomato added a bit of flare but could use a little salt or seasoning. Overall the meal was delicious and the atmosphere was quaint. Definitely will go here again!

Jacklyn K.

Yelp
We loved our breakfast experience here! We had a 15 minute wait on a weekday around 1pm, which we spent at the bar next door getting happily tipsy on cheap mimosas and grey hounds. The bartender and our server were both lovely and attentive. As for the food- yum! As a New Yorker, I take my breakfast sandwiches very seriously and the Doc Taylor did not disappoint! I subbed chicken sausage for bacon and hash browns for the grilled potatoes. The sandwich was delicious and I loveeeddd the tomato. The only semi annoying part was that I was charged an extra dollar for each substitution, but bacon is the same price as chicken sausage and hash browns as potatoes on the menu. Ahhh well. My husband loved his sweet potato pecan pancakes as well! The cheddar grits were a miss for us both, even though they were cooked + creamy, they were really bland.. I added quite a bit of Tabasco and still left most of the dish on the table. Prices are a great point. Superrrr affordable and something on the menu for everyone! Great place for families before a beach day. Worth a stop if you're in VA beach!

Kristina H.

Yelp
Best breakfast on the beach. Our waiter was awesome, joked and chatted with us. Gave us some good advice on things to do with our teenagers while we were in the area. The food was so so good. It's hard to mess up breakfast but Doc Taylor's got it more right than most.
