I finally had to go check out Dockside after hearing it was included on a list of some of the best seafood in the country. This is not a sit-down restaurant and it does not accept reservations, so everyone waits in line to order with the cashier, who gives you a number and then a server brings your food to the table. I already knew this was the setup, but we waited for ONE HOUR in the rain because it started storming on our way over and there's no covering where you stand in line. I understand going on a Saturday at 7pm is prime time, but the bar is set so high for the food when you wait that long under those conditions.
So on to the food! Yes, the seafood is incredibly fresh and they're on display as soon as you enter (depending on what you order, you can even choose the exact fish you'd like). We wanted to try a bit of everything, so we got the gator tail app (4/5), and 2 combos with 2 seafood choices each that included triggerfish (5/5), triple tail (3/5), shrimp (5/5), and scallop (3/5), all blackened, except for the scallops, which were grilled. I think next time I'll try the triggerfish grilled, so I can get more of the sweetness this fish is known for. I didn't enjoy any of the sides (coleslaw, hushpuppies, or fries), but was told I could only swap out the fries, which was disappointing, so I added the cucumber and tomato salad (4/5). We also got a beer and an alcoholic seltzer. I know we ordered a lot of food, but still got sticker shock when we were told the total was $100.
I would definitely go back to try Dockside again, but next time I'll go in the afternoon and not during their busiest time of the week, so the wait is hopefully shorter. Also, I would probably try grilled triggerfish and blackened shrimp, maybe as tacos, with no sides.
