Informal spot for arepas & other traditional Venezuelan eats, plus burgers & seafood dishes.
"If there was such a thing as a high school for arepas (we smell a young adult novel), Doggi’s versions would easily win the senior superlative for most popular. Everyone loves these arepas, which are as fat as structurally possible. They have a wide range of ingredients you can stuff inside your warm arepa, including hearts of palm, fried pork belly, and plantain. The arepa Santa Barbara (churrasco, tomato, avocado, and cheese) is a favorite and would probably be the high school quarterback in this novel we’re about to start pitching. Come here for the huge breakfast special too, featuring beef, plantains, avocado, cheese, and eggs so you can practice your own arepa-stuffing skills, which will prove very useful one day." - ryan pfeffer
"Several Latin American countries have made the arepas an integral part of their cuisine. Made of pre-cooked corn flour (masarepa) and water, these hearty pancakes are grilled and then stuffed with everything from avocado to meat to cheese, making for a light meal or hand-held dish to eat on the go. Miamians are serious about their arepa fix, and Doggi’s serves some of the best iterations in town, including a Mexican version filled with churrasco, avocado, and pico de gallo." - Juliana Accioly, Olee Fowler
"If a fresh passion fruit juice and an arepa from Doggi’s in MiMo don’t start to make you feel a tiny bit like a person again, you may just want to go back to bed and try again tomorrow. We have yet to meet a hangover that couldn’t be at least lightened by this duo, especially if we’re ordering the arepa santa bárbara, which is an overstuffed pocket of churrasco, tomato, avocado, and cheese. You’re also going to need about 70% of the excellent sauce found inside the squeeze bottles on the table." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"Plenty of autumn-themed food is also on the menu with local food vendors on hand such as Doggi’s Arepa Bar, Wolf of Tacos, Nuts About Sugar, Jugo Boss, and Jolly Time Popcorn, each offering items from their menus along with special seasonal dishes." - Olee Fowler
"When I get sad, I seek out cheeseburgers. It’s probably something I should address in therapy at some point, but it’s my truth for the time being. Sadly, cheeseburgers are one of those foods that have a high risk of turning into a soggy mess during the delivery process. So when delivery and takeout became my only option, I needed an alternative. Then, it hit me: the arepa. It’s a similar concept - delicious stuff held together by carbs - but the arepa, unlike the cheeseburger, travels extremely well. These things could run a marathon and still be photoshoot-ready. Another plus: I happen to live within walking distance of Doggi’s, a Venezuelan spot home to some of the best arepas in Miami. And so, on those nights when gloom fell like soft rain, and a wet cheeseburger could risk turning that drizzle into a thunderstorm, the arepa came to my rescue. Give it a try yourself next time you’re feeling a little blue. I think it’ll help." - ryan pfeffer
