"Located in Victoria (or what we like to call the Greyest Part of London), Dominique Ansel has brought his sunny New York bakery and legendary Cronut to London. If you don’t know what a Cronut is or why it’s important, it’s the bastard love child of a croissant and a doughnut, and it’s one of the most Instagrammed things in the world at this point, right behind Kendall Jenner and expensive bikinis. If you can get there before 9am, you have a pretty decent chance of acquiring one for your Instagram, and you can even eat it, if you so choose. For those less concerned with their social media presence, Dominique Ansel is also a great place in Victoria to pass the time in between train delays. It’s a cute, almost neon-bright cafe with outdoor space in the summer. When it comes to the offerings beyond the Cronut, we suggest trying a simple yet amazing croissant, the DKA (their original sweet pastry – better than the Cronut in our opinion), the croque monsieur, the chocolate chip cookie shot, or the frozen s’mores. What you do with them is up to you, but we highly suggest you eat them. photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch" - Eileen Twum

"Dominique Ansel, the award-winning New York pastry chef and creator of the Cronut, (a doughnut-croissant hybrid) has won his plaudits for good reason. Croissants are subjected to a transglobal cross-section quality check often posted on Instagram; deconstructions of classical American combinations are witty and fun rather than cripplingly impractical, and cronuts are there. It’s not hard to see why this would be on the intrepid traveller’s itinerary." - Adam Coghlan, Emma Hughes, James Hansen

I found sweet desserts a bit too sweet. Why am I complaining? May I was expecting it to blow my mind away and not having hard time finishing these desserts. Something was missing. Contrasting texture or taste to go with sweet, may be? Although despite my doubt, we’d ordered some savory food that turned out to be superb. Must try egg burger. Very few veg options available. Staff is incredibly nice and ambience is great!

The kind of place you visit at least once every few months. So many delectable treats that are both delicious and beautiful. Bright interior, friendly staff. Seating could be more comfortable. Make sure you get there before 1pm to guarantee a Cronut (the invention that made Dominique Ansel famous). If definitely recommend trying the cookie shots and taking the DKA home as a second treat. You won't be disappointed!

The food and ambiance were excellent. Dominique Ansel Bakery’s take on traditional high tea is modern and delicious. The savory sandwiches are uniquely crafted. The service is not good and definitely puts a damper on the experience. Given the price point and ambiance you’d expect the service to be more refined. The waiters were clumsy and not properly trained - from spilling food to pouring a glass of champagne with a nearly empty bottle, it simply put a bit of a damper on the experience overall.

If you are in London this is a must do experience. Reservations are required and are easily done on their website. The bakery itself has many delights but the tea was good. I didn't think I would be as full as I was! Each piece was delicious and the tea was great. Service was wonderful. For 1 person, total with prossecco was 61 pounds. Worth it!

My friend and I met at this bakery for desserts. The Blackberry Meringue pastry was extremely delicious. The creme inside was very delicious and filled with some blackberry cream. The fruit was very fresh. I didn’t try the chocolate pastry but she said it was tasty! I’d definitely recommend Dominique Ansel to everyone. It’s a very cute little restaurant.

Amazing high tea! Their scones with the innovative strawberry jam and clotted cream in one are an absolutely gorgeous treat. The whole meal is delicate and gorgeous but surprisingly very filling, though we couldn’t help sharing the watermelon soft serve afterwards. Beautiful service and very accommodating booking system.

Went for late afternoon coffee and cake with a friend visiting London. Cronuts was tasty, worth a try. Cakes were yummy. We had the Zahra Rose and Paris/London which were not overly sweet which is perfect. Coffee was average. Bit pricey for what we had but suppose paying for the great location. Staff were friendly overall. worth a visit.

I love the innovation of Dominique Ansell, but the overwhelming sickly sweetness is putting me off slightly (as a massive sugar addict). The cronut was not as fresh as I have experienced in the past (August 2018) but still I enjoy the flavours. The peanut mousse cake was not so good. I don't think I can be as effusive as I once was.

Yelp
This is one of those places that definitely lives up to the hype. I saw pics online of their watermelon ice cream served in a watermelon (exclusive to their London store) online before we arrived...I knew I wanted to visit when we were in town. We hopped in our car and headed here one rainy afternoon. Street parking was a breeze here (pay by phone). The bakery itself is much more spacious than I anticipated with a beautiful indoor and outdoor seating space. Service was fast and friendly. Order at the counter and either take it to go or grab a seat and they will bring most things to you. If you're ordering bakery items they will give them to you right at the counter. If you're eating in prices are slightly higher (like most places in the UK. My kids all had the watermelon ice cream. We figured they were so big that we would eat the leftovers. That didn't happen. They were so good they devoured them. We also got a couple more things that were amazing! They also have a lunch menu that we did not try. If you're in the area make it a point to come here!!

Yelp
The place has lost its wholesomeness, big time I've never seen a pastry shop drops from the top of the world to the bottom of the abyss as dramatic as this one. My love and appreciation to good French pastries is huge and this place less than few years ago has tickled my taste buds like no other. Now the Cannelé is stale and eggy The Cronut is overwhelmed with jam Their Perfect Little Egg Sandwich is not perfect anymore precooked, tasteless and takes forever to heat up in front of your own eyes I'm not coming back

Yelp
Service is extremely slow here! Came for high tea when we were in London. They do high tea at only two times: 2:30 and 4pm. The high tea area is behind the bakery and it's much quieter and more intimate :) Decor was super cute and fancy; very festive for the holidays. We ordered the standard high tea which came with 5-6 savory bites and 5-6 sweet bites. After getting the tea, service went downhill. Three new parties were seated AND a party of 5 got their food before us (party of 4) along with two other tables who were seated after us. We had to flag the waitress down a few times since it seemed like they had forgotten about us :( Overall, good experience doing high tea in London but can't say I'd come back here for it again.

Yelp
This place was a major foodie pilgrimage for me in London. It is so expensive but so good. I made two trips with my husband to sample the delights. The Victoria Sponge is certainly fancier than a normal sponge--partially more like ice cream than cake--and contains incredible complexity with its hidden elements. I've seen Religieuese on Great British Bake Off and knew I had to find it somewhere here. Ansel's version is edible art. The fanned-out chocolate is delicious on its own. The choux has a lovely texture, and the cream packed inside each piece is perfection. Paris-London amazed me because it's a massive piece of pastry yet is light on the palate and stomach. The divergent flavors representing each place are subtle yet distinct. I especially loved the undercurrent of Earl Grey. Each month, the bakery has a special cronut. The one was June 2019 was peach lychee. It was exquisite. The flavors were strong yet not overly so, with incredible pastry layers. Lastly, we shared a whole apple tarte tatin. This was like a miniature apple pie with a complete apple inside--one of very delicate texture.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised to see that Dominique Ansel didn't have a queue whatsoever when I visited on a fine Sunday morning. You will definitely be paying a premium for these elegant pastries and will be charged even more if you opt to dine in. Make the most out of your trip here by taking as many pretty pictures as you can. Upon visiting, I obviously had to order a cronut, but was also keen to try two more items that are only available in the London branch. // Cronut, Apricot Jam with Chai Ganache (£5.20) - 4 stars The caramelization on the cronut is no joke; I wasn't expecting it to be so sticky! I quite enjoyed this month's flavor as I thought the zest of the apricot and earthiness of the chai contrasted really well. // Welsh Rarebit Croissant (£4.80) - 3 stars If you haven't tried a classic welsh rarebit yet, I would caution ordering this pastry. Its flavor profile contains prominent notes of Worcestershire sauce, sharp cheddar, and English mustard. Very atypical stuff in a croissant. // Banoffee Paella (£8.40) - 4 stars This pie is baked in a paella pan upside-down to caramelize the bananas on top. You then have a creamy dulce de leche mousse in the middle and a light crumbly crust at the bottom. Personally, I would have liked the coffee flavor to be more pronounced. Nonetheless, it was still enjoyable.

Yelp
I'm visiting this city for about a week and a good friend of mine who you still live in the area told me to come here period she said there was another place in New York. She told me to get the cronut and it was delicious. my colleague ended up getting the chocolate chip cookie and she said it was so delicious.once I posted this place on my Instagram of friend of mine said they had the best chocolate chip cookies period I guess I'll never know since my friend ate it on her own. Overall thid picturesque bakery had many other choices of pastries to choose from inside. I really wanted a macaron but I didn't get one. I'll have to stop by again and try something else. I love the entrance they have beautiful flowers surrounding the walkway once you go in and you'll see the patio sealing come out you'll also see a while full of flowers that is just gorgeous.

Yelp
I am a big fan of the cronut, having recently discovered it at a bakery near my place of business I made it a point to come here when I learned the inventor has a bakery in London and I would soon be visiting.( I was 420 and googled inventor of cronut and it led me to Dominique's) now the place when you walk up is this dope little bakery with plants and trees around it, you walk in and the place is immaculate, I arrived right as they opened. I got my cronuts and returned to my flat and was in heaven! Thank you Dominique for this amazing creation you have bestowed upon us, we are not worthy.

Nika B.

Yelp
We came here for afternoon tea and it was alright...honestly a whole lot of hype. There was a gaggle of teen girls out front taking pics with the storefront (it's covered in plants/flowers)...I realize I sound like a curmudgeon but we literally could not enter the bakery for our reservation because people were blocking the door for pics. Like cmon everyone... We were seated relatively quickly but it wasn't our best tea experience in London and we've actually had better experiences here in the states tbh... We are vegetarian so we both shared the vegetarian tea which had a few savory items and a few sweet items. They were tasty and creative but nothing crazy. Would probably skip and go elsewhere (Fortnum and Mason, Palm Court at Langham) if you're looking for a truly awesome tea experience.

Yelp
Couldn't visit London without visiting the newly opened Dominique Ansel Bakery. We've had the pleasure of enjoying the NYC location & were really looking forward to the London-only treats! London-Paris pastry - very lemony & tart Welsh Rarebit Croissant - they heated it up but was still cold on the inside. Nevertheless, it was a tangy & savory & repeat-worthy! Eaton Mess - slightly sweet & the basil addition was outstanding! Little meringues & strawberry mousse with balsamic reduction - wow!! Salted Honey Tart Liquid peanut butter And couldn't pass up this month's cronuts - peach / elderflower. Very subtle elderflower flavor & I'd almost equate it to raspberry but there was indeed a floral tone to this delight Well done London Dominique Ansel!

Said H.

Yelp
This review is only for two items... One being of the most delicious, decadent, richest eclairs I've ever had. SO good, I went back and got another the next morning. Also, the cronuts. When I went at night, they were sold out. So I returned the next morning right after open and got a couple. Their flavor this month was pumpkin walnut. I didn't like the fondant type frosting on top, not did I care for the pumpkin/walnut filling that was inside (much to liquid-y). But they deserve 4 stars simply for the awesome eclair. Wish I had gotten to try more, everything looked really beautifully done

Yelp
We came in the morning and grabbed a few espresso drinks. The seating area is spacious and comfortable with free wifi. My main goal though was to try the Cronut. Hard to believe I have never had one considering I've been to NYC several times but since we are in London I had to make the trip here. This month's May flavor, Blush Peach with Elderflower Ganache was a great first. Slightly floral and fruity, it was delicious. Seems like the Cronut craze has died down considerably here so unless you're getting a large order no need to pre-order. We also ordered a DKA which is still my favorite by DAB. Maybe it's just been a while though since we last had it but it's physically smaller than I remember. I also tried the London-only Welsh Rarebit Croissant. No idea what a traditional Welsh Rarebit tastes like but it sounded interesting and it was tasty. Melted cheese, whole grain mustard and the Guinness Worcestershire cheddar béchamel went well together with the buttery, flaky layers of the croissant. The entire pastry is large so you may want to share or have a large appetite. The hype may have settled in London but this is still a solid bakery in my book.

Yelp
Very crowded, but truly delicious! Food: 5, Very pretty and skillfully made Service: N/A Ambience: 3.5 Overall: 4 The table set up is messy and everyone was bumping into each other while trying to access the odd vacant seats. Silverware was located in an unclear section of the place. Everything was just tight, but not too uncomfortable. The desserts are magical. Each layer of the desserts are different and it really mended well together. I got all 4 of the exclusives at the location and were special on their own. Some were overly sweet for me after a few bites, but good thing I was with people who had sweet tooths!

Yelp
Accidentally passed by and decided to go in to see if it lived up to all of the hype. Their cakes look so beautiful but for the me their tastes were just ok; none of them stood out to me or had me wanting to come back again for more. Place is on the pricey side - spent £23 for 3 cakes. Order: Peanut Butter Mousse Cake, Religieuse, and Lime Me Up Tart. Peanut Butter Mousse Cake - I've seen pictures of it before on social media and they were just so amazing to see! The look of it was cute and petite. The mousse was light but had a bit of a gelatinous texture. Unfortunately, the taste was nothing special- kind of bland overall (a little peanut taste but not much). Best part was the chocolate peanut on top because it was filled with caramel liquor. Religieuse - Just the look of it will make your mouth drool, however, once again the taste was very light. The cream inside while light and refreshing, it was just a hint of coconut. Lime Me Up Tart - Definitely the biggest let down. The whole thing basically just felt like you were eating jello. There was a tint of lime flavor but it was very very sweet. The best thing was that the chocolate straw on top seemed to be filled with brown sugar but it turned out to be salt (which was definitely needed to cut the amount of sugar).

Madhavi B.

Yelp
Delicious cronut with blood peach jam& Lychee ganache! I did think the pastry was a bit stale (it was very chewy); however, the jam and ganache was truly delicious! All together, a big portion dessert that was worth it! I also had the DKA, which was fluffy and full of flavor.

Mike D.

Yelp
This place is a must! Service was above 5 stars, the manager jumped on the register to help keep the que moving along and took care of our kids extremely well. I accidentally forgot to take a desert and when I went back to the counter to get it, the manager apologized saying he forgot to get t for me and gave me a macaroon as a freebie taste. We got the What-A-Melon, Lime me up Tart, 9pc Macaroon and a Chef's Hot Chocolate. Everything was outstanding and well presented. Great place must stop and check out.

Sharon C.

Yelp
You won't be disappointed. I think it's not possible. We came for the watermelon ice cream, their machine went down so we waited. They gave us blooming hot chocolates for our trouble, it was divine. I had a chorizo croissant, delicious. Chia tea was ok. I also got a cronut to go. The what-a-melon was well worth the wait. I'll go again and again. Staff is very nice, the cafe is beautiful. Very Instagram friendly if that's your thing. Cost is moderate but again worth it.

Natasha L.

Yelp
I ventured during the evening 2 hours before closing. There was a selection of the monthly crounuts available as well as other desserts. The was an ideal time to enjoy a sweet snack since the crowd was missing. I was able to sit in the courtyard and eavesdrop on the guests' entertainment. I ordered a couple macaroons and the cookie shot. If you come in the evening, ypuay request the cookie to be slightly warm if you like. It's a good 11 min walk from Sloane Square.

Yonnie C.

Yelp
Before I arrived in London, I had already contacted this store to arrange for a cronut pre-order pick-up. March happened to be English rhubarb w/ brown sugar "flavor of the month", so I ordered 4 for pick-up once I landed in London from the states. The staff helped to direct me to the appropriate website for pre-orders, and also informed me that this store does not have the same crazy lines as the New York location. Thank goodness! haha :) I ended up coming to this shop twice during my London stay. I picked up my 4 cronuts during the first visit + my husband ate a pot pie there. On the 2nd visit, we ordered another cronut + some other dessert pastries, since I know once I return to Los Angeles, we won't be having any fresh Ansel cronuts for a long whiles until Dominique Ansel opens up his shop in the latter part of 2017!! :) The staff were delightful and friendly. So glad I was able to come here, and it's right next door to the Victoria Train/Bus Terminal, which is perfect for tourists like me since all tour buses and trains are close by! haha

Stephen H.

Yelp
Want to try the cronut without having to fly to NYC or Los Angeles? Stop in here. Unexpectedly close to the Victoria Coach station.

Gloria C.

Yelp
Ever since its launch I tried to find THE cronut in New York, Tokyo and LA location but it's always sold out. Finally this time I got it in London. And to be honest it was disappointing. I was there when the shop opened so you'd think everything is fresh, but the cronut was cold, soggy and not crispy at all. It tasted like it's been sitting there the whole day but the bakery just opened. I had different cronut variation and I have to say this original dominique ansel bakery is the worst one. I really hope it's just an exception and next time they change my mind.

Steven B.

Yelp
Dominique Ansel London would be the first stop on my London foodie holiday as it is in close proximity to Victoria station, where my train from the airport got off. And being a fan of Dominique Ansel's New York City flagship shop, I was quite eager to try the sister location and get those stamps on my DAB passport. The London bakery is certainly more decorated than the new york location, also quite spacious, empty even. I'm used to the NYC location being small and jam-packed with people. Waiting in line for cronuts at 7am or earlier. Doesn't seem to the situation at DAB London...around noon on a Thursday. Nearly full tray of cronuts on display behind the counter. But I decided to get two of the items in the passport that I could get stamps for. Those two items are the Welsh Rarebit Croissant and Dosa Mille Feuille. The third item to get a stamp for is the Banoffee Paella, but I did not feel like ordering that. The Welsh Rarebit is big and difficult to get one's mouth around. I also did not feel like getting the greasy cheese all over my face and hands, so I opted to cut with a knife and eat with a fork. The shell of this item is essentially a croissant. Flakey, buttery. Topped with a caramelized cheddar, which provided a nice flavor. Inside the rarebit is a Guinness-mustard-cheese situation. Some bitterness here, probably from the Guinness. My issue with this was the overall lack of flavor. The filling was cold and lacked flavor other than salty and bitter. I believe this item was re-heated before served to me, but it needed to be reheated longer as the gelatinous filling was not working well in tandem with the cold croissant dough. If this was reheated longer, get all the fat to a soft melty oozing quality, it would have worked much better. I would not recommend ordering this. But you'll need to if you want that stamp. The Dosa Mille is an interesting item. A crunchy dosa flavored puffed crepe filled with a whipped Chantilly, which seems to be something between whipped cream and ricotta. It is light but has a satisfying density. Several different flavors going on in here, hazelnut, coffee, and some candied lemon. The crepe is puffed and has a nice crunch with a soft chew. This dessert is also noticeably salty, perhaps intentional, but salty indeed. I also decided to get the Blooming Hot Chocolate, on a whim. The gimmick here is that the marshmallow is cut into a flower shape and cleverly tied up by a dissolvable confectionary strip. As the strip dissolved, the marshmallow flower blooms. Pretty neat. But how does it actually taste? At first sip, there was a slight bitterness. Like the chocolate was slightly burnt or it was dark cocoa. But as the marshmallow dissolved and I kept drinking, the bitterness seemed to disappear. The mouthfeel on this hot chocolate is malty. Dairy notes of milk--cream. At the bottom of the cup, I noticed a hunk of semi-dissolved sugar. Perhaps stir your hot chocolate before consuming if you order this, for best results. Dominique Ansel Bakery London does not warrant a journey as I think the New York location does. But if you are nearby, consider stopping in for the Dosa. And if you get the hot chocolate, I recommend stirring it after the flower blooms.

Andrea W.

Yelp
Surprised that Dominique Ansel is located off the beaten path near the bus terminal, I have to visit one of these bakeries in every major city that it is available in because of all the city exclusives. Unlike the other locations, the line up here is non existent (Weird but yay) but all the classic pastries are still amazing like the ever popular DKA and cookie shot. They also have a full coffee and tea menu, but like other places in London, it costs more to dine in. We tried two London exclusives: after the rain mousse and the Welsh rarebit pastry. The mousse was amazingggggg and light and it looked like a cream raindrop. It had multiple textures: jelly, mousse, and cake... So perfect. The Welsh rarebit was pretty disappointing because it tasted and consisted of 50% mustard which was way too much.

Chantee F.

Yelp
I'm going to go ahead and give this five stars. I was impressed with the decor and pastry selection. There were items I never heard of or those that only existed in legends like the famous Cronut. Truth be told the Cronut wasn't the best pastry I have ever eaten but it was darn good and I don't like donuts with filling. It was flaky and chewy, a real treat. The star was definitely the matcha latte. No frills, just nicely prepared and served warm. It was sweet enough without extra sugar and complemented my pastry. Service was quick despite the somewhat busy time. A small queue moved quickly and table service was attentive. Free tap water included. This was a delight and somewhere I would take a visitor or meet a friend. Lots of space to sit with a greenhouse style room as well. Beautiful!

Christina G.

Yelp
Never got your cronut in NYC because the wait was too long? No fear, the Dominique Ansel here is far less busy and cronuts sell out around noon on the weekends and 1-2pm on weekdays. The line is never more than 10 minutes. The flavors are produced monthly - for this month it's strawberry lavender. If you want a nice Instagram photo you'll have to pay £5.80 to eat inside the restaurant or £5.00 if you want to take your cronut to go. I should also mention I recommend anyone who gets the cookie shot (it's amazing!!) get it as a take-away item because they package the milk for you and you end up getting more milk to fill up your shot 2x more than you would have if you got it dining in. There is also complimentary wifi & water.

Ken G.

Yelp
I love Dominique Ansel in New York and it's great to have a spot in London too! I had the following items during my visit: Cronut - it would be silly to visit Dominique Ansel and not get a Cronut. It seemed a bit smaller than the ones I've had in NYC, but still just as good. During my visit it was a white peach jam with rose ganache...so creative and so good! Chocolate Chunk Cookie - wow, these cookies are really good! I'd never had them before, but they are worth it - rich, buttery and dense with great quality chocolate. These are perfect with some milk. Welsh Rarebit Croissant - another incredible creation (I believe unique to London), this had so much flavor from the Guinness Worcestershire cheddar and mustard...it sounds a bit odd, but the flavors really work. It was a decadent savory option. Hot Chocolate - as expected, the hot chocolate was very good...it was rich and had a lot of chocolate flavor, but not overly sweet. Compared to my NYC visits, this place did not have a line so it was nice to experience this bakery "normally"...definitely check it out!

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Finally trying the cronut from the king himself! The flavour of the month was white peach jam with rose ganache and rose sugar. The ganache was a bit sweet for me but that white peach jam was so good and zesty it balanced that sweetness perfectly! I will defo comeback to try their other beautiful pastries

Sania I.

Yelp
If you haven't tried a cronut come try it here! Make sure to come before 12pm. This time I only got a milk chocolate caramel pear cronut and a latte. I was a bit hesitant with the cronut combination but surprisingly it worked. I can see some people not liking it so keep an open mind when trying it out. For those not in the mood to venture out then they have cookie shots, frozen marshmallows, and so many other pastry options. I came around 10ish it wasn't busy which was nice I got to really enjoy and take my time.

Carol G.

Yelp
The Hype is true! Close to Victoria Station. The cronut was amazing. I only wish I could have gone back everyday I was in London. Addiction worthy I hope a bakery opens in LA. Order your cronut online to make sure you get one. They go fast!

Daniel F.

Yelp
Expensive taste for good quality pastries. It's not marketed totally for the likes of me but the media coverage it gets and social exposure does. Of course I got the seasonal cronut which was good. Nothing to write home about. A flaky crossaint style doughnut. Somewhat confused I feel. I'm not a fan of cross overs as it's neither good at one or the other. The best thing I bought was a admittedly expensive £6 Frozen smore. But it did have depth of flavour with the cold ice cream inside the smore. And it was quite big as a smore as a whole. I think I would recommend it to tick off he bucket list and just see the delights. Not much on show there TBH but the smore is Defo an indulgent photogenic eat to get if you go there.

Geoff Y.

Yelp
So, did you see the reports about people queuing up at 5am for the Cronut when this place opened their doors for the first time? This guy did. This guy was also one of those slightly crazy people who lined up at said time (made sure I wasn't first in line though, I'm crazy but didn't want said crazy to be broadcast by being interviewed on TV). The bakery is beautiful, larger than his Lower West Side branch in New York, but the location, just down the road from Victoria Coach Station, could be nicer, however, as you are queuing early in the morning, maybe it's good to have people around. Dominique was on hand that day and we were given little madeleines and hot chocolate to tide us over until opening and staff did keep checking on us. The queue got steadily busier and eventually wrapped round itself and at 8am, the doors opened and we were introduced to the staff and head baker at this branch. But more importantly, we were let in. The spread is bountiful and beautiful and you can't choose just one! They've got some made to order items that I couldn't wait for (Madeleines are one of them) and all savoury food is prepared on the spot. The pastries looked delicious and I was happy that I was ordering for a group, it meant I could get a larger range. There are a bunch of London exclusives but to be honest, everything is good here. Cronuts are in short supply, you are allowed to buy just 2 per person but the rest of it is a free for all, if you want it, order it. On to the tasting, everything was bought takeaway and brought to the office intact (no scoffing on the way, the self control is strong) and first pastries were eaten (except Cronuts, they weren't allowed out of my sight). Flaky French pastry was crispy and delicious, my Welsh Rarebit croissant, topped with whole grain mustard and fontina cheese and stuffed with a beer cheese sauce was over the top and yet so moreish. Mid afternoon the cakes came out, and they were demolished. The Eton Mess was beautiful (very novel way of keeping the sauce isolated until needed) and the salted honey tart was divine even though I was wondering whether the flavour would work. The Cronut though, layers of croissant dough, fried into a donut then stuffed with a butterscotch filling and topped with toasted cocoa nibs. Words do not describe, I can only suggest you go and get one. The quality and the look are impressive at not an insane price (most expensive item I bought was the Eton Mess at £7.50, Cronuts are £4 so not much more than a Krispy Kreme, most cakes at the £6 mark). I'll definitely be coming back. Obviously there is the cost of waiting in line, but if you turn up at opening and expect to get one, prepare to be disappointed, he's been open in NY since 2011 and people are still queuing there, obviously he's doing something right.

Yelp
Always incredible. I tried these cronuts for the first time in New York and fell in love. So when I heard there was a location in London, I knew I had to try them. The flavor was apple something or other and IT. WAS. DIVINE. Do yourself a favor and grab some cronuts ANYTIME you're near a Dominique Ansel Bakery.

Yelp
Was paying nearly £10 for 2 items worth it? To this day, I'm not too sure but I'm immensely happy I visited the iconic Dominic Ansel Bakery, at its London location. I arrived early in the morning, and purchased the cronut as well as the frozen smore's on a stick. The flavor of the month was English Rhubarb & Brown Sugar, filled with homemade English rhubarb jam with a perfect balance of tart and sweet, and creamy brown sugar ganache. It was wonderfully divine. The flavors were complex, with distinct flavor profiles that combined beautifully on your tastebuds: the tanginess of the rhubarb jam melded with the creamy saccharine brown sugar ganache. The cronut is something I would recommend everyone try at least once in their life. It is absolutely flaky, delicious, rich, and unique. It is unlike anything I have ever had, and truly lives up to its name: it is exactly what you would imagine a donut and a croissant hybrid to taste. The jam and brown sugar ganache intertwined itself in the flaky layers of the cronut, making each bite perfectly balanced between sugared buttery dough and rich filling. While the frozen smore's was no doubt delicious, paying ~$5 for a block of vanilla ice cream inside a cube of toasted marshmallow is quite steep. There is no distinctive, specialty flavor, like there is for the cronut. It is a fresh and fun concept, but not a must-have. However, I will admit the contrast of textures and temperatures was an innovative idea; the marshmallow was toasted crisp warm on the outside, but quite fluffy on the interior. When you bite through the marshmallow, you are greeted with a nicely chilled chunk of vanilla ice cream that is quite creamy and rich. Also, the vanilla ice cream is encapsulated in a layer of brownie / chocolate cake crumbs. I will be sure to pay Dominic Ansel Bakery another visit next time I visit London!

Yelp
Heard the hype from NYC and he's the creator behind the Cronut... so I figured I must check this out. Arrived there at 4pm and literally all the cronuts and cookie shots are sold out! The staff there said that they always sell out on those items really quickly. All the cronuts gone by lunchtime !!! Disappointed I tried the madeleines, frozen s'mores and DKA. The madeleines and frozen s'mores are made there and then so you have to wait around 15mins. All of them were delicious. Different from anything I have ever tasted! The frozen s'mores is very filling and the madeleines tasted amazing when it's fresh out of the oven mmm.

Yelp
Having been to nyc and not getting a chance to visit DAB was really sad, however, am i glad they finally opened up in L-Town! Ventured in on a sunday for lunch, was pretty busy, however, thank gawd no queue! The interior is very classic, chic and modern, it has a simple clean look. I like there that are two lines, 1 for cronut and the other for normal pastries. Choose to dine in or take-away, simple! The pastries all look very beautiful!!! Ordered quite a selection, which I was happy about! I heard the cronut is meant to be ah-may-zing!! You order, the lady behind the counter gives you a table number, sit anywhere you like, and the food comes to you :), simple as! Everything arrived at once, so chose the cronut, frozen s'more, paris-london, lime me up tart and liquid caramel peanut butter mousse. Beautifully presented, picture perfect, the cronut was cold as the air outside! I suppose it had been sitting in the counter since 8am, and well to be honest, doesn't quite live up to its name. I wasn't entirely impressed, maybe it's better eaten at 8am once they open. It wasn't flaky, nor was it tasty enough for me to be wowed! Paris-London - twist on the Paris Brest, made with Earl Grey mousse, lemon curd and blackberry ganache. How looks can be so decieving, I like how their menu is customised to London, earl grey being the most british tea you can possibly drink. It does work in a few desserts, however, in this i felt like it didnt. Maybe I'm being too criticful, for the price you pay its not really worth it. The texture is dry, the lemon curd is very eggy, almost tasting the egg more than the lemon, no taste of the earl grey, the blackberry ganache is nicer on its own! Frozen S'more was like having coco pops for brekkie, yes definitely my favourite, also its quite a big square block, so maybe worth sharing or NOT! It wasn't too heavy either! Perfect marshmallowy centre with the chocolate wafer crips in the middle, mmmmmm. Lime me up tart - ultimately my favourite, as I do like the most sour of desserts! Perfectly crumbly pastry, delicate lime mousse. A bit of DIY is needed to bring it to life, pour the sea salt, juniper and brown sugar mixture on top of the tart, and squeeze the fresh lime over it to create an instant caramel! Yessssssss, winner winner, it was perfect! Finally, Liquid Caramel Peanut Butter Mousse - Simply the BEST!!! My favourite favourite, not only does it look simply eyegasmic but it tastes like you've fallen into heaven! Like the Reese peanut butter stuff, as you slice into it, all the layers are seen, there is no smear effect, perfectly balanced. It's like eating a snickers bar, sweet, salty and crunchy! I highly recommend this!! The coffee and tea isn't great. I'm not too sure whether I'd get a box to go. I would go back and try the savoury items on the menu. Overall a nice cafe in london, service is top-notch, you are properly taken care of!

Yelp
I came here for the cronut-- the flavor that month was well balanced but the cronut itself was much greasier and less flaky than its New York counterpart. It might have been due to the time of day (late afternoon) but I was rather disappointed in the quality.

Yelp
Finally DAB in London with a large location and a special star for that little veranda sitting on the back. Many items are available only in London which makes it very special as the London -Paris pastry or the Paella banofee. You will get to try also the classic DKA (Which is better than the crony imho), the cookie shot ( available all day) ans the frozen smores. It is a bit of a trek to go there as it is far from the main streets as oxford/regent street. I don't know if I would go there again but if I was in the neighbourhood why not

Yelp
I went here with my sister since one January morning. We arrived at 9am because we weren't sure if this location was going to be busy as the one in Tokyo was. Luckily, it wasn't!! We were happy to see a full case of goodies. We ordered the iconic cronut, along with two other pastries and two flat white coffees. The place was clean and very cute. For the price, I wish presentation was a little more thought out. Pastries range from £4-£7. The iconic cronut was delicious but very decadent for the morning. It also had a filling we weren't sure of. We asked the staff walking around and he had told us it's his first day so he didn't know. We finished our pastries and coffee anyways and went out to the fake terrace to take some photos with the nice floral backdrop. Afterwards we went back in to get some goodies to take away. I saw a graphic tee in the display and asked the barista about it. She didn't know anything and directed me to the front cashier. When I asked the front cashier, he didn't know much about it either and had to look it up. The place gets four stars because even though the pastries were unique and delicious, it isn't cheap and the staff weren't very knowledgeable about the products. Anyways, happy to finally try the cronut!

Yelp
Having been to the Dominique ansel in New York, I had high expectations for the London location. I got the salted honey tart and banoffee paella to go - the tart was ready immediately but I think they forgot about the banoffee paella. When I asked about it after around 10 mins, a server said that was a normal time to wait bc it's made to order, but 5 mins later she asked if I had gotten it yet and she said she would ask about it and I got it almost immediately. Annoying that they forgot the first time but the server was really helpful. I was honestly disappointed in the banoffee paella. The bananas didn't seem super fresh? They were a bit mealy. And the crumble on top wasn't a buttery crumble like I was expecting. It was kind of hard and a bit salty. I do want to go again to try some of the other items but I definitely won't be getting the banoffee paella again.

Yelp
So fun! Unfortunately they were out of the watermelon when i went (they had it later on in the day) but it was a fun try nonetheless. Be ready to pay premium prices. We're talking 4 pounds per item (ie: per cronut). In USD that's around $5.25...EACH. Post cards are a must but they're 1.50 pounds ($2 USD each) which isn't bad but damn..... But hey...gotta do it for the insta! Make sure to take pics with their outside archway or their courtyard faux ivy wall!

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Dominique Ansel. Living in NYC for a few years I've been to his bakery and kitchen many times and have had some amazing food. It was a happy coincidence when I found myself in London a week after his newest opening! I basically knew what I wanted before getting there since following the bakery on social media. I almost didn't try the cronut because I know how filling they are and I wanted so many other things, but I went all in and just overate like I figured I would! Do the same! Always say yes to the cronut! If you're a New Yorker in London, make sure you try the London originals..the Welsh Rarebit Croissant and the Croque Monsieur are a must. Don't stop there, go for the Perfect Little Egg Sandwich, probably my favorite thing there. I think it's a throw to the WD Ansel Egg Melt sandwich they served at the kitchen in NY a few months ago. I tried that and this one is just as good! The Kedgeree Croquettes were good but probably my least favorite thing I tried. I was thinking it would be more like a Scotch Egg and it was a little underwhelming, but still good. The Paris-London is not only visually appealing, it tastes great. The earl grey flavor is just enough. The only thing I couldn't get that I wanted was the Eton Mess Lunchbox, they weren't ready yet at the time I went so if anyone goes, get this and tell me how amazing it is! I love how the menus are always evolving at Dominique Ansel's restaurants and you never know what will be new when you get there. If you're lucky enough to live close to one of his places make sure to take advantage of his creative talent!

Yelp
Ansel's Bakery was one of those bookmarks sitting slightly off my usual beaten track, waiting for when I will be in the area. I do not frequent Belgravia too often, so after hearing yet another recommendation I decided to make a dedicated trip. After a meticulous research I arrived with high expectations and knowing exactly what I wanted to try. There was quite a lot of it but it was all so cleverly made that Proper appreciation is in order. Welsh Rarebit Croissant - marriage of traditional dish with french pastry. Large portion of croissant pastry with savoury, cheesy filling. Topped with french mustard covered with melted cheese leaving a nice aftertaste. Interesting. Cronut - the biggest fuss-maker delivered very nicely with the signature texture providing solid interest. I tasted cronuts before, but this felt...like switching from an early touchscreen Samsung to early iPhone (hopefully you get what I mean). Filled with nutty cream oozing out when cut and balanced with delicate rose jam - very clever since nuts arrive early and linger to be accompanied by rose after a while. Dominiques Kouign-Amann (DKA) - minimalist flavors of sugar and butter leave the event to the texture - sugary hard crust turning into chewy, buttery dough inside. Banoffee Paella - another twist on a classic: crumbly base tasting like chocolate cookie overlaid with toffee cream and topped with fruit jelly, sliced bananas inside. All that garnished with a big splotch of semi sweet cream. My usual beef with banoffee is death by sugar - none of that here. Each flavour is present resulting in a balanced dessert. Place on TimeOuts top100 well deserved! Frozen S'Mores - I'm starting to irritate myself as I write this banging on about textures - but this is a big thing at Ansel's. This stuff just feels cleverly designed. There is a solid skill and creative flair behind all of this. S'Mores teases by smelling of burnt sugar, and then after brief melted marshmallow you get a cold kick from the ice cream. Brilliant. Liquid Caramel Peanut Butter Mousse Cake - beautifully shiny cremeux presented on crunchy oat cookies and filled with delicate peanut filling. Topped with peanut-shaped chocolate truffle. Playful and, again, smart. Cotton Soft Cheesecake - light-like-a-cloud cheesecake on subtle lemony base and topped with caramelised sugar glaze. Simple and sophisticated. Nuff said. I will be back.

Yelp
Let's just say, Cronuts taste better in London!! What a pleasant experience compared to the New York location. No early morning alarm clock required, no queuing, more space and available seating. That's before even tasting the Cronut! As I was off work I thought I'd take the opportunity to go for brunch, while they hopefully still had some cronuts left. So I took my mum along for brunch, anything to make her feel more connected to NYC! I tried the avocado toast and my mum had the croque monsieur, plus a cronut each. The presentation of the avocado toast was so nice, I didn't want to dig in! It was delicious, with some smashed avocado and ricotta underneath and sliced avocado and radishes on top. Mwoah! So good! I also stole some of my mums croque monsieur and it was really cheesy and filling, probably better value for money than the toast as you get 2 decide sized sandwiches. Service was really friendly and our dirty plates were cleared as soon as we had finished them, which was handy as the table was only small, but it was probably more likely to have us move along quickly as the place really started to fill up. There were quite a lot of laptops and "meetings" taking place it looked like, so there wasn't a huge turnover of tables. Now, saving the best for last - the Cronut! The flavour for July is Strawberry & Cassis; filled with strawberry jam and cassis ganache with blueberry sugar... yum!! This months flavour was so up my street, so I loved it. The topping did stick to my mouth a tiny bit when trying to wolf it down, but I can get past that once I could catch a breath. There was so much jam and gorgeous colour that came out that Cronut. I could have eaten another! And I did, sort of. The jam was a bit much for my mum and I think she found it a bit messy to eat, so I got half of hers as well! All round it was a great experience. Good food and presentation and great staff, in a very pretty cafe. It nearly competes with the Èlan Cafe on decor. A lot of people were having the new watermelon ice cream slices, which looked good, so I might have to go back before the summer is out to try one.

Yelp
The best bakery at London.. it's really Easy to find this bakery about five minutes walk from Victoria Station. The bakery was gorges love the decor from outside and inside to. I had cronts it's there best seller and I tried there signature which is cookie shot plus,latte... I can't explain how delicious it was ... And I highly recommend if you are in London and want to enjoy the best pastry and coffee should visit it .

Yelp
It's fun to queue for a cronut at 7am in the midst of a New York winter, but also quite nice not to have to do so. In the London of Dominique Ansel's bakery empire, cronuts are available all day. And even to pre-order for special events. Dominique also supplements his most popular creations with a cast of London-only patisserie fare. So it is worth the trip, even if you have been to the humble mothership on Smith Street. A beautiful floral wall display in the conservatory and grey and white French bistro furniture in the main cafe offer a delightful escape from the chaos and fumes of Victoria Station (the nearest tube stop). So make the most of the experience and bon appetit!

Yelp
Just one sentence - come here for CRONUTS!!!!! An absolute must have. Best pastry ever.

Yelp
Went in for the hottest new thing right now - the cookie shots but was disappointed by the lack of options for such a premium price. The cookie shot is pretty small and there is only a standard cookie, not a variety you can choose from. To my disappointment there aren't milk options either only cows milk which I don't like the taste of and many people may not drink. Would be much tastier with almond or coconut milk. The cookie itself was really yummy. I also got a delicious brownie which was very chewy and moist. I really wanna try out the frozen s'mores next time I go.

Rachel K.

Yelp
Delicious Mont Blanc! The chestnut cream on the outside was very very delicious. Also, the cronut was good but it could've been fresher. my cronut was a bit stale. There were raspberry filling and chocolate (hazelnut) filling donuts but the cashier did not ask me which one I wanted when I ordered a cronut. I felt like they gave me a left over one. Ask for a flower marshmallow when you order a hot drink because watching it is pure magic.

Maria L.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! Having been to the one in NYC as well, I enjoyed seeing the one abroad. This location seemed more quaint and I had great customer service. Will definitely be back!!

Jesslyn C.

Yelp
Heard about the famous cookie shot and decided to give it a try! I ordered the cookie shot and a few other pastries in the cashier and they are served to me by a waiter. The cookie shot is the bomb!!!! (Strongly recommended) there's a inner chocolate lining around the cookie made shot cup, which compliment the cold milk well as it melts when you sip and bite off the cookie. A tip is that the Cookie shot is only available after 3pm daily. So I went after work about 6.30pm, but because of the time, I missed out their famous cronuts :( (The worker told me that the cronuts is usually sold out about 1-2pm daily) I guess I just have to visit this bakery again, which I would totally do so! The location is near Victoria station so it's very convenient to travel there. There are plenty of seats in the shop, and I would say it's a good place to hang out with friends for brunch or afternoon tea. I loved the pretty "backyard" area inside the shop that allows natural light to shine in, overall it has great ambience!
