Donkey Mo's Review - North Loop - Austin - The Infatuation

"Donkey Mo’s is a small strip-mall joint dedicated to Korean fried chicken. You’ll find a few other items on the menu—blistered shishitos, fried dumplings, spicy rice cakes—but poultry is this North Loop spot’s main attraction. The toughest decision is choosing between wings, tenders, and thigh nuggets. None of it will blow your mind, but it’s all tasty enough to add to your weeknight dinner rotation. We prefer the wings—they’re battered, nicely fried, and tossed in one of five sauces. Get the sweet and spicy if you’re OK with a little kick, and pair it with something light and crisp off the draft beer list for the full experience. Food Rundown photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Wings The wings are our favorite option here. The batter is thick and crispy, ensuring that the chicken inside stays incredibly moist. We just wish they were tossed in sauce (rather than topped with it) for a more even coating. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Chicken Dumplings These are a little dry, especially the parts that don’t get covered in the sweet, savory glaze. But they add a little variety to a table otherwise covered in fried chicken. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Tenders When we don’t want to deal with the hassle of a bunch of chicken bones, these are our usual go-to. They’re not as tender or as well-seasoned as the wings, but the sauce does a good job of hiding those shortcomings. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Thigh Nuggets We’ve tried these on a few visits, and they’ve varied from thick, juicy, and excellent to thin, dry, and just OK. They’re definitely the easiest to eat, but we suggest sticking to one of the more consistent options." - Nicolai McCrary

Austin Korean Fried Chicken Restaurant Donkey Mo’s Closed on South Lamar - Eater Austin

"Donkey Mo’s Fried Chicken shuttered its Zilker neighborhood restaurant at 1100 South Lamar Boulevard, Suite 2140 within Lamar Union sometime in July. Donkey founder, owner, and chef Youngmin Noh confirmed that the South Lamar restaurant was up for lease. The rental listing — which is no longer active, implying that it’s been leased already — explained that the restaurant “need[s] to release current space and pay more attention to the other location,” referring to the North Loop one at 5312 Airport Boulevard, which is remaining open." - Nadia Chaudhury

Yum yum YUM! This place was soooo delicious! My friend and I came for lunch and split the Original Wings, KG Thigh Nuggets, Onion Rings, and Dumplings. The employee who took our order was very friendly and helped us decide on sauces and what not. The dumplings were tasty and nicely filled. The onion rings were nice and crunchy with not too much breading. The fried chicken (wings and thighs) are seriously where it's at. They double fry the chicken so it's suuuuper crunchy. We also tried one of every sauce, each of which were perfect for the chicken. I think our favorites were the Holy Donkey (spicy!) and Sweet and Sour. I would love to go back and try more of their sides along with more chicken!

Saying Donkey Mo’s has great Korean fried chicken is an understatement. It’s THE BEST Korean fried chicken in Austin!!!! I fell in love with Donkey Mo’s when they were located in Hmart and Lakeline Mall in North Austin. Got so sad when they were closed a few years ago. Now I’m soooo happy that they’re open again. We’ve tried different places for Korean fried chicken in Austin but nowhere has made it as great as Donkey Mo’s. Food: Kang Jung bites are delicious, perfectly crispy outside and moist inside. Each piece is big as well, so it’s like two bites in one. Jumbo wings are jumbo for real!!! Each drummette is almost as huge as a drumstick. Each wingette is big and meaty as well. What sets Donkey Mo’s apart from other places is the coating. The chicken here has a thin crumbly coating but very crispy while maintaining the tenderness and juiciness inside. After a meal of fried food, I don’t feel heavy at all. Other places have thick coating or dry meat inside. Here they also offer a variety of side dishes like cream corn, pickled radish (the perfect pairing for fried chicken), dumpling, spicy fried rice cake, shishito pepper, onion rings, etc. The onion rings also have a crumbly coating and they’re well-fried without having oil dripping down your throat. Sauces: My favorites are soy garlic and sweet & spicy. Soy garlic is sweet, savory, and garlicky - delicious blend of umami flavor. Be ready to have some garlicky breath after, but it’s absolutely worth it. Sweet & spicy is not very spicy, it’s creamy and has a light kick to it. If you’d like your food spicy, try Holy Donkey. You have an option to have the sauce on the side as well. Price: Very good price with great value. 6 jumbo wings or 12 KJ bites are good for one person. 10 jumbo wings or 20 KJ bites are good to share between two people. Staff and restaurant: Service is very quick. We did a takeout order the restaurant is very clean and has nice lighting. Ambiance is great with good music. We had the pleasure to meet the owner - very nice, attentive, and genuine. I live in Round Rock, but I go all the way here for Korean fried chicken. If you’re in mood for Korean fried chicken, please try Donkey Mo’s and you’ll be happy. Congratulations on opening again! You guys are one of our all time favorite restaurants!!!

We had been looking forward to trying this Korean fried chicken for a while. We ordered it with the sauces on the side so we could actually taste the chicken first, and unfortunately the chicken had no seasoning. Like ZERO seasoning applied It was very crispy like it should have been and very juicy just like it should have been just tasted like nothing. Was very disappointed.

Ordered jumbo tenders, spicy fried rice cakes, and shishito peppers. Jumbo tenders were covered in sweet & spicy sauce and holy donkey. Be warned holy donkey is SPICY but delicious!! Definitely order the sauce on the chicken, it’s so yummy. We will definitely be back!!

Donkey Mo's Fried Chicken truly sets a high bar with their 10-piece Korean-style nuggets, offering a culinary experience that's hard to forget. Each nugget is a perfect blend of crispy exterior and juicy interior, accentuated by a unique, savory flavor that tantalizes the taste buds. The subtle spices and the light, yet satisfyingly crunchy batter make every bite an absolute delight. It's not just food; it's a masterful creation that showcases the art of Korean fried chicken at its best.

I remember when they had their location at H-Mart. I was absolutely devastated when they closed. I am thrilled they are back. I came for the grand opening and they haven’t missed a step. In fact, I tried other Korean fried chicken places but none are as good as Donkey Mo’s. They left a void when they left the first time, but now I can happily say my heart (and tummy) is full.

Fantastic korean fried chicken option in South Austin. Thigh bites were excellent and onion rings were also great. Owner is very nice and was happy to give recommendations. Will be back!
