"Oakland's vegan doughnut shop and cafe, Donut Farm (née Pepples Donut Farm), has provided its popular dairy-free raised doughnuts since 2006. On the savory side, tofu scrambles, meatless carne asada, soy chikkin, and tempeh have been staples at the cafe for breakfast and lunch. Now, it's wading into the vegan craze that's been making headlines: vegan sausage rolls." - Ellen Fort

The best vegan donuts….raised are the way to go. So I recommend weekends. But plain cake is also delicious. Everyone needs some donut farm donuts in their life. Their brunch items were always delicious too.

Google
3/2/2025 NEW LOCATION! We drove by the San Pablo Ave location a couple weeks and did not see their Sign and thought, oh no! another casualty of restaurants in the Bay Area? We found the new address had since been changed on their Page, feature picture NOT. Much nicer space, same delicious Donuts and maybe some new ones too?

Google
The lavender earl grey donut is the best donut I've ever had. The donuts here are pretty sweet, but the flavors are so good! Pumpkin donut was also great. Pepples Donut Farm is a pretty cool place in general.. You'll have to come by and check them out!

Google
I ordered a burrito and they only gave me four chips as seen in the picture. Might well not even bother putting in there. I was very disappointed but the breakfast burrito was so savory and tasty that I had to forgive them ( I did take off a star though). Also their glazed vegan donuts are so perfectly sweet and fluffy. Edit: I am giving them all their stars because I love their amazing customer service. The young ladies that served me were so nice with great hospitality! Also they gave me a free donut and apologized for taking a little too long with my order, I didn’t even complain they just did it!

Natalia Murray

Google
My boyfriend is gluten/dairy free and we came here based on good ratings from the Find Me GF app. While he couldn’t have the donuts, we were mainly after brunch and the tofu scrambles were delicious! He had the Pepples scramble with avocado, and I had the Pesto scramble. Both come served with hash browns and sourdough toast, so we just left out the toast for him. I usually don’t love tofu but this dish was absolutely delicious! We are from out of town but will definitely stop back here if we’re in the area again 😄

Google
Earl grey donut taste like soap. I had to immediately spit it out. Cold brew looked crusty/ grainy and I was not surprised as I came to the bottom of the cup that this was the result.

Murti Nauth

Google
In my opinion, donuts should taste like sweet, fried dough. These donuts tasted like sweet. Just sweet. I think they just put too much of the glaze on that it overpowers the dough. The matcha tasted like green sugar, and the blueberry tasted like blueberry sugar. I like that they are a dedicated vegan donut place, and I even like that they're mostly cake donuts. But, I wish they had un-glazed cake donuts or just put a thinner glaze on the existing ones.

Crystal

Google
Vegan donuts for the win. I love pulling a fast one on my loved ones who aren’t vegan. I brought the goods and they could not tell it was vegan. Little location with delicious vegan donuts and coffee. Street parking. Mask required to enter.

Yelp
Donut Farm has just finished moving into its new location in Berkeley. The old location in Oakland is closed. It's soft opening as they are still settling in but all the donuts are now available! They are all organic and vegan donuts made fresh daily. They also only serve plant based milk for their coffee. I am partial to classic raised donuts but I tried to keep an open mind with their cake donuts since they have so many different flavors. The classic donuts are so good. I was blown away by the vegan Boston cream donut! I had the opportunity to chat with the owner Josh. They plan on serving brunch again in a few months. I can't wait.

Eric V.

Yelp
I'm reluctant to buy one of their donuts. The reason isn't because they're vegan. No begrudgement to vegans here. Candidly, there are times when I watch videos of the abattoir and consider being at least a vegetarian (though never actually making the attempt). The only meat product I won't eat is Tyson chicken: because - of course - they give money to the Clinton Foundation. Why won't I have a Donut Farm donut? Well, why do the donuts look so blah? I understand they are cake donuts, leavened through an acid-base reaction. Cake donuts will always occupy the lowest caste of any display case. Risers, cruellers and bear claws (a type of riser) always shine brighter. But even for cake donuts, those of the farm are uglier than John Merrick. Does subbing out butter and milk really create that much of a problem? I suppose it does. Butter, an emulsion of fat, water and milk solids is like a time bomb. When baked within dough, the water releases as vapor, tunneling through and lightening the pastry. This isn't happening with veg fats. So there's no way to construct a perfect donut that is also vegan? Or if there is, the codex remains in the hands of few.

Min C.

Yelp
First time at the actual location - only tried about 247 times at other cafes who supply them. Of course the biggest advantage is that they have much more assorted variety, especially if you're like me and like to try non-conventional flavors. They also sell coffee for those wanting to complement their baked goods with something to help wash it down!

Sean G.

Yelp
You must be lying to me. This was one of the best vegan donuts I've ever had didn't know it was vegan until well after it was finished. The staff was friendly and great to talk to. She helped me make a very difficult decision get a coffee, donut or a maple donut. Just so everyone knows the answer moving forward should be both. I ended up getting a coffee donut and absolutely loved it. It taste delicious. And then I got to take a small bite of maybe a dozen other donuts. Places, fun and worth going in and checking out not too loud so you can definitely sit down and enjoy your donut afterwards if you would like .

Ashley G.

Yelp
Fresh off the plane we decided to stop off for donuts on coffee as we made our way to Napa Valley and I am glad I found it. The coffee was amazing & fresh! I haven't had coffee this strong and flavorful in awhile. The matcha coffee was also delicious. They only have options for Hot Matcha but they also have cold drink options, some with CBD. Let's get into these donuts! AMAZING! I couldn't believe they were vegan! I enjoyed the blueberry donut but I couldn't really taste the blueberry. It was still tasty and enjoyable. I would recommend dipping your donut into the coffee for a sweet tasty surprise. Overall if you are looking for a local donut shop, you will enjoy it!

S H.

Yelp
Sweet vegan donuts, friendly staff and breakfast sandwiches to go. I know the great donuts are sold in nearby coffee shops but wish they would open an outlet a little further east.

Kandis Y.

Yelp
This delightful donut shop offers an array of fantastic flavors that are sure to impress. Friendly service. The matcha and coconut chocolate donuts are a perfect 10/10!

Lexi R.

Yelp
I tried the blueberry donut for $3.50. After having my fair share of vegan donuts, I feel like I can say with confidence that this one is fire! I popped it in the microwave for 15 seconds before eating it. It's sooo moist and flavorful. It's fluffy too. Only thing I am sad about is that this is an hour from my home. There's free street park in the area. The establishment is unassuming and felt in the middle of nowhere lol but so worth a visit.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
When my Berkeley-native friend suggested vegan donuts for dessert, I was honestly pretty hesitant. He swore they tasted amazing and convinced me to try them. My group of 9 popped in to Donut Farm on Saturday afternoon around 20 minutes before closing. There were plenty of metered street parking spots close to the shop. The interior is simple and no fuss. The employee was not exactly bubbly, but answered the questions we had. All of the donuts I tried were REALLY good! ($3-$3.50 each). Would never have been able to tell they were vegan. ----- FLAVORS ----- * Philz coffee - My least favorite due to lack of strong coffee flavor, but still tasty. * Lavender earl grey - My favorite. The taste was well-balanced. You could taste the floral tea notes, but it was not overwhelming. * Matcha - This was an instant order for me. If matcha's on the menu, I always get it. This donut did not disappoint. * Chocolate cookie donut - My partner's favorite because he loves chocolate. It wasn't overpoweringly rich. * Orange creamsicle - Really light subtle flavor. * Blueberry - Tasty, but not the most memorable of the bunch. Donut Farm is definitely worth it and I look forward to coming back.

Magda G.

Yelp
I had a donut craving and came in right before closing so my surprise that all their donuts are vegan. I had the glazed which was delicious, it was so soft and fluffy and had just enough glazed sugar on it. At $2.50 for glazed, I thought it was very good. My friend had the gourmet blueberry donut but I find those too dense and cake-y if you will for my taste. CC accepted.

Karen N.

Yelp
Had to bring in brekkie for the gang so got some Lee's Donuts and stopped by Donut Farm to get some gluten free, vegan donuts. First the donuts look gorgeous. Aside from some solidity and chewiness and swallabity it's hard to tell they're vegan. Price is about double or triple that of non vegan Lee's. But these definitely look more handmade and high end. So if you have some vegan GFs in your crew, the donut farm is your place. Oh yeah. This place is also a coffee shop and looks like a chill place to chill. Parking is tight on SanPablo if you drive there but if you're gluten free and vegan, then you'd also come on your fixie as well so that's not a problem.

Denzel T.

Yelp
Recently came here to check out the vegan donuts. I would say that the ambience/vibe of the place is very no frills. I ended up going with a raised chocolate donut while my coworker got some of the cake donuts. I'd say it was a solid donut, but not the best vegan donut I've ever had. I think I'd come back to try some of their cake options which seem to have a bit more variation.

Lily D.

Yelp
I would certainly come back here for vegan doughnuts because they have the best fluffiest yeast risen doughnuts. Sometimes all I can find are cake doughnuts and they are too dense for my taste. I like the Matcha, Blueberry, Philz Coffee, and Lemon Poppyseed. I can't even tell they are vegan...: it's that good! It reminds me of Blue Star Donuts except you don't need to travel all the way to the PNW. If your friend gets you these, they are a keeper!

Danyel L.

Yelp
The raised donuts on the weekends are what donut dreams are made of. Don't miss the apple fritter

Sophie M.

Yelp
Unassuming little spot with delicious donuts. They have the classics (glazed, plain), interesting variants (e.g. lemon poppy) and fun top shelf variants (earl grey lavender, Philz coffee, etc). Yeasted donuts on the weekends are also an awesome treat. All the donuts we tried -- and we've tried a lot -- were tasty, moist and not too sweet or greasy. And oh yeah -- they happen to be all vegan, but omnivores shouldn't let that deter them. Service is friendly and quick.

Jack R.

Yelp
We did try them fresh and had them for a birthday party. Minus one star for the owner's rude comment. I was trying to give him 3 stars by saying they do hold up after a day or two since we had 2 leftover. However due to the sarcasm for what we paid for our friend's birthday doughnuts and all of them tasting the same...dropping this to two stars. A good owner would have reached out with a better option then to say try it fresh. Broh....we did try it fresh and ordered them the day of my friend's birthday . So many doughnuts, so little time. These doughnuts are dense and filling and hold up well even after 2 days. I don't really taste all the fun flavors. All of them really just taste like an original glazed doughnut but with different lackluster glazes. They seem expensive and not all that memorable. I would have really liked to have tasted the raspberry or chocolate flavors but they all taste the same. The flavors don't really stand out.

C S.

Yelp
Everthing is 100% plant-based/vegan! What a gift, thank you! Not only is everything vegan, but everything is bomb! If you're looking for that perfect vegan plain glazed donut, the search is over. Its here at donut farm!

Marilyn E.

Yelp
Come here for the mexican hot chocolate donuts sometimes theyre good sometimes theyre ok. Today was an ok day lol. Its not huge but not small in there. Has a couple of benches and on the weekends they have brunch from 10 to 3 :)

Misan H.

Yelp
If you are looking for delicious vegan donuts you have found the place. All their cake donut flavors are awesome and they offer raised jelly donuts on the weekends. Some of my favorite flavors are Matcha, Phil's coffee, Salted caramel, Orange creamsicle just to name a few. They also offer brunch on weekends I believe!

Matty G.

Yelp
Killer fresh donuts at great prices. Great location where Oakland meets Berkeley. Who could ask for anything more?

Chloe B.

Yelp
Can't lie was super disappointed to find they do not do breakfast food. Their social media/website is super dated and needs to be updated. Don't go expecting to get things other than donuts. They donut display is cute and they have a wide variety of classics. Apple fritters are of course hard to come by being vegan. I felt it needed more apple! Not enough. The texture of the donuts were okay. The icing for the cake donuts was super sweet. Staff member was friendly. Exciting that it was all vegan but can't lie was disappointed overall.

Alexander H.

Yelp
This place is increeeedible! They have a huge selection of both cake AAAAND yeast (classic) donuts and their coffee is aaamazing. Allison behind the counter brings a relaxed, informed, and joyful vibe to this warm little hole in wall. 10/10 will come again

Catherine K.

Yelp
These are the best donuts I've had in the Bay Area. They are vegan too so they are near perfect. Lavender, matcha, and creamsicle and the apple fritters are sublime.

Victor F.

Yelp
My go to spot for the best vegan donuts on the planet!! Highly recommended. And the coffee is great too

Jessica M.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place after picking up something nearby. It's a small storefront but easy to find and with street parking. The young woman working was super friendly, explaining her favorite flavors to me. They do raised donuts on the weekend which I'd love to try. I tried two of the "premium" donuts (earl grey and pumpkin, which is seasonal), and four of their regular donuts. They were all really delicious, like a cross between an old fashioned and cake donut. You would never know they're vegan! They also are carried in different markets in SF. Highly recommend!

Jeff W.

Yelp
Let me just tell you that these are the best vegan donuts I ever had! And as a doughnut connoisseur I've tried a lot of them. I don't eat out much but I do use my cheat day to eat at donut farm! The fact that is November First, and I didn't consider much Halloween candy last night it was a perfect rainy day to get a donut and a coffee! This is my second time doing a farm, and I had the maple in a small coffee and it was perfect. Excellent customer service from the road girl working there and survive inside is always so cool. Let's talk about the taste of these donuts; you can try the vegan ones at Whole Foods or other places but with This place it's the skillz of how the textures are perfect, they're always fresh, they're thick, and the frosting like... melts in your mouth, so there is just Something epic about them, that's probably one of the secrets in The donut farm crew who makes these beautiful babies every morning. Need I say more? I think you need to go for yourself. On the weekends primarily Friday through Sunday they have yeast and raised donuts, which I have yet to try one of those bad boys! I know that's when they have the fritters and I can't wait to go for that. Now... I live a nine minute walk away and I have not became a donut farm junkie yet... But we'll see what happens... :-)

Kathryn M.

Yelp
Be careful to check their hours by calling. Their website and front door say they open at 7:30am. My kid needed a vegan treat for his birthday at school, so we arrived at 7:40am. The front door also says they open at 7:30am. There were people inside, who surreptitiously looked at us, but who also pointedly ignored us standing outside in the cold. According to Yelp, they don't open until 8am, which made my kid late to school since I couldn't come up with a backup plan any faster than that.

Stone Z.

Yelp
** they only have the fluffy yeast raised donuts Friday Sunday ** Found this by playing Pikmin Bloom actually. Looks like they don't have their little donut statue out front anymore (which is probably a good thing- looks like it was made out of insulation foam which can get funky) -- but it's still a cute spot. I see vegan donuts and I must try, although cake donuts aren't my favorite. I tried the salted caramel- weirdly enough though, the display had a orange frosting, while the donut I got had white frosting with an orange streak? I didn't look inside the bag until I got home. It tasted sort of like a brown sugar cinnamon role, but as a cake donut. I like that it's more of a bum shape than a donut shape, it's cute! I haven't tried the lunch/brunch things, but they do look interesting! The guy came outside and asked if I had any questions when I was looking at the menu, seemed nice

G S.

Yelp
Got the chocolate, blueberry and lemon donuts. They were crunchy and well made. Everything was vegan which was awesome, great selection. However the blueberry had no flavor (except the sugar) and lemon was ok. Chocolate was good. I don't think it was worth paying nearly $10 for 3 donuts tbh. Worth the visit but won't be going again.

Ale C.

Yelp
These donuts are very good i come here at least twice a month. Service is quick and the fact that these are vegan donuts is even better. I recommend the cinnamon twist and Boston cream filled.

Erica A.

Yelp
The best vegan donuts! We get them often, and had them as a treat at my daughter's second birthday and everyone loved them and didn't realize they were vegan. The raised donuts on the weekend are extra special.

Kevin M.

Yelp
The Best chocolate cake donuts ever! My significant other said the Chocolate Cookie donut was the bomb! I LOVED the Mexican Hot Chocolate donut. Both cakes were substantial and cooked to perfection with the toppings being perfectly complementary. The outlet in Oakland fronts their business of supplying many coffee shops throughout the SF region. I highly recommend this place for any donut fix. We'll be coming back...a lot.

Frances M.

Yelp
Tried the whisky...sabe que donut. Just ok, but the cake was very moist. Street parking, small space.

Zachary F.

Yelp
It's hard to find good vegan food. We had three orders of their hot chicken. The outside of the crispy fried tofickin gave it that first hard crunch. Hidden where clumps of sweet, salty and peppery flavors of spices inbetween the ridges of the breaded layer, which had been dowsed in hot sauce. You feel the heat of the hot sauce directly after the spices. It's the kind of heat that hits you in the beginning. For me, an avid spicy food hunter, it wasn't bad and enhanced the other flavors. My woman had to take breaks in between bites. The inside portion after the crunch was firm and porous with savory flavors that seep out with every bite as you chew through. I was left with the after taste of all the flavors and a slight burn that made them pop out more the longer I let it sit. Will be coming back.

Miriam L.

Yelp
These are the absolute best vegan cake style donuts I have ever had. The raised ones are excellent as well. I have tried vegan donuts around most of the western world, and it is rare to find ones that have such nicely flavored moist cake, a crunch to the outside, or topped with good frostings, and these have all of the above. The only complaint from my family was that they could put more sprinkles on the sprinkle donuts.

ARIeL P.

Yelp
Hands down our new favorite vegan donuts. We've driven by this place many times and been seeing them on IG. But we finally made the effort. Wow! Very good vegan donuts! Can't wait to come back to try their fritters. Friendly staff also is a big plus. We will definitely stop by each time we're in the area.

Danielle K.

Yelp
Ordered a dozen on Doordash for a little shelter in place celebration. You cannot pick which donuts you'd like, instead they guarantee to pick the best of what they have and surprise you. $48, which included the delivery fee. Unfortunately, it felt like we got the day old dozen. Everything was super stale. There is no menu to tell you what you've got, and no pictures found on their website. We decided to make the most of it and just do a fun taste test and guess our way through. All of our donuts were sweet, sometimes cloyingly sweet, and we just couldn't determine any flavor differences. Sometimes we noticed that a few had a bit of a crunch on the outside and that was fun. One donut must have been blueberry because we saw half of one sticking out of the icing, but no more to be found, and it didn't flavor the cake at all. Maybe delivery made these lost in translation, or we got the bum end of what was left. I'd recommend a picture menu to show customers who ordered blindly what they received.

Emily H.

Yelp
I was searching for a vegan dessert place on Yelp and found these! They all look so cute, and the place was easy to find, with street parking right in front. My favorite flavor was the Mexican Hot Chocolate--it tasted just like the Abuelita mix (if you know, you know)! The other donut flavors came mostly from the icing, but this one had the flavor in the donut part too. If you want to grab the more popular flavors (Mexican Hot Chocolate or Matcha Green Tea) then be sure to grab them in the morning! I got the last ones of the day for those two flavors just around 12pm. The COVID precautions they take are quite safe as well! Entry is restricted to one customer at a time, so I felt really safe ordering :)

Naomi B.

Yelp
Amazing donuts and all made locally and healthier alternatives Service is good Highly recommend

Giovanna R.

Yelp
Amazing donuts! Blows me away to know these are vegan! I come here often, exciting to see what new flavor they have released. Always on point no matter the donut, of course some have a preferred place in my heart (Cinnamon sugar and plain!). These donuts with please the entire family, hands down! Take a break, and head over to have a few (slicing them up allows you to try many of them ;). Enjoy!

Francesca S.

Yelp
Y'all already know what day it is... It's National Donut Day! Today I went out to our local @donutfarmoakland to pick up some fresh vegan donuts. I got matcha and blueberry, total classics. Then I had to spice it up a bit with lavender earl grey. Texture-wise, the donuts were crisp on the outside and nice and cakey on the inside. Flavor-wise, the matcha and blueberry were a bit mild, but when it came to the lavendar earl grey...that was 10/10! Absolutely delicious and would get again. I'm going for their Philz coffee flavor next.

Anna M.

Yelp
I was immediately greeted on a weekend morning, which surprisingly wasn't as busy as I expected. The staff were friendly and patient with all my questions. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes with a few people being in front of me. Donuts: All donuts were fluffy and well made. They also lasted more than a day out in the counter, so that was a major plus. Lavender earl grey: This was my favorite! I didn't get too much tea flavor, but I didn't mind because the lavender shined and I thoroughly enjoyed this flavor. Philz coffee: There is a subtle coffee flavor to this, so if you have a sensitive taste bud to coffee you may like this one. I personally wished there was more coffee flavor. Matcha green tea: I loved how much I could taste the matcha in this one! It was the perfect balance and totally would get this every single time. Salted caramel: perfect balance of sweet and salty ;) no issues with this one! Pumpkin: All I can say is this one made me feel like I needed to be eating this with a nice hot cup of coffee in front of a fire. Try it if they happen to have it! Blueberry: This was the most "tart" out of all the flavors I got, but it wasn't sour at all, so it's pretty much indescribable. It just hit a little different and I guess you'll need to try it! Try it out when you can people, you won't regret it. Also when you do..get more than 1, you're more likely to leave happier :)

Jay J.

Yelp
Way too expensive for what u get Fancy gluten free good presentation Tough to find parking

Marissa C.

Yelp
My boyfriend brought back a surprise box of donuts for my early birthday. I was already in love with the one in SF, but I only tried 3 flavors from there. The ones he brought were all new flavors and one of my favorites from the SF visit. It was very hard to resist eating the entire box in one sitting. -Vanilla Glaze - Not bad, I would get again. -Blueberry - Still my favorite. -Cinnamon Sugar - Good but I personally don't care for the sugar (too messy). -Philz Coffee - Couldn't really taste coffee flavor, more sweet like a glazed. -Chocolate Cookie - Not bad, couldn't taste too much chocolate though. -Lemon Poppyseed - Light on the sweetness and subtle hint of lemon. Interesting that I see this place serves food too and from the pictures, it looks good. I'll have to go try it out in person one of these days. But for now, their donuts already have my heart.

Marcie A.

Yelp
YUMMY donuts! And dare I say, better than regular donuts?! I came here on a Friday morning to get a dozen donuts for my colleague's birthday. I got a random assortment of donuts: blueberry, matcha, lavender earl grey, vanilla cookie, vanilla sprinkle, Philz Coffee- a dozen for $30. All the the donuts were delicious! You'd never guess that they are vegan! Super delicious and a perfect sweet treat! Highly recommend!

Emma T.

Yelp
Run don't walk. That's it. That's the review. The weekend brunch burrito is my hangover dream. The raised donuts (specifically the lemon tangy less sweet flavors) got an ovation from a non-vegan group of eaters. If only the ferry building had the savory menu as well as the donuts, or the raised donuts were weekdays as well. But maybe the exclusiveness is what helps make me crave them more?

Thirmal F.

Yelp
This place is so good, you wouldn't believe it's vegan. I wish they would make more donuts on Friday Saturday mornings.

Lotus E.

Yelp
The lavender earl grey donut is the best donut I've ever had. The donuts here are pretty sweet, but the flavors are so good! Pumpkin donut was also great. Service here is really good too, the people working here are genuinely very friendly and kind. They also started serving brunch again which is super exciting. And I really enjoyed the pancakes I tried. Pepples Donut Farm is a pretty cool place in general.. Ive even bought some nice shirts from here. Love their stickers too. You'll have to come by and check them out!

Jason M.

Yelp
Melt-in-your-mouth vegan donuts. What's not to love? I got the Salted Caramel and Maple donuts and had devoured them by the time I got back to my car block away. Yes, they really are that good.
