Heavy metal bar with gothic decor, craft cocktails, spicy food
"There comes a time during the bright and breezy days of summer when we want powerful AC and less general cheer. That’s where Doom comes in. The heavy metal bar in Callowhill has dark gothic interiors and great nachos. So escape the heat, eat some good bar food, and beat your friends at Metallica quizzo." - alison kessler, candis mclean
"When you think of popcorn shrimp, you probably think of the kind you shove in your face, one handful at a time. But the shrimp at this heavy metal bar in Callowhill are in a league of their own, and too big to pop. They have jagged, crispy edges, and are so perfectly seasoned that you can skip the Calabrian chile aioli they come with. They may not be small enough to give you the chipmunk-cheek experience of typical popcorn shrimp, but they more than make up for it when it comes to the quality and flavor." - candis mclean, alison kessler
"Doom Bar in Callowhill has this dark, end-of-the-world energy. Which is fine with us, since we’d be thrilled to eat their hot dog on doomsday. It’s a beef frank covered with a spicy pork and tofu chilli and a sprinkling of scallions. Each bite is a perfect meaty combination of heat and tang. If today really is the end times, enjoy a drink and glizzy fest. And if it’s not, why not do it anyway?" - candis mclean
"Nachos are cool. Liking something kind of niche is cool. Therefore, Doom Bar, a slightly freaky bar with amazing chip-and-cheese heaps and a location near the city's smaller music venues, fits the category. There’s church-adjacent stained glass, a chandelier made from real animal bones, and a cooler seemingly always bursting with moderately priced Bud Heavy. In case you couldn’t guess from the name and, well, every other detail provided so far, this is a metal bar. But it’s also one with a playlist that’s neither alienating nor annoying to people who don’t really dig metal. And it could only exist in the dirtbag paradise that is Philadelphia." - allie conti
"At a lot of bars in town, late-night food options are nonexistent (or it's a pile of stale peanuts). That's not the case at Callowhill's Doom Bar. The dark, bi-level bar has plenty of space for groups to down pilsners and pass around loaded nachos, crispy shrimp, and cosmic brownie sundaes until 1am. And since the heavy metal bar closes an hour later, have a night of drinks, take a midnight chili dog break, and go back to your Doom Me cocktail and flirting with an Ozzy-loving stranger until 2am." - candis mclean
