Asian Food in Mexico City — Best Restaurants

"Dooriban was started by five Korean and Mexican women who sold their own kimchi. It opened in 2021 as a corner spot in the Roma Norte neighborhood, serving hearty dishes like bibimbap and kimchi fried rice seasoned with gochugaru, a Korean paste made from Mexican guajillo chiles. “Mexican and Korean cuisine may be different, but they also have many similarities that we celebrate, like the heavy use of heat, fermentation, and ancestral beverages,” says Sofia Acuña, one of the cofounders. Recently, Acuña and her team started producing a fermented milky rice drink, makgeolli, under the brand name Haru Haru." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The Best Restaurants In Roma, Mexico City 2024

"Dooriban’s Korean homestyle cooking took Mexico City’s Korean food scene by storm after the chef started making “Kimchi Mama Park” out of a ghost kitchen in Colonia Juárez. (Now, it’s a proper restaurant in Roma.) The kimchi bokkeumbap—bacon fried rice with that excellent fermented cabbage—is the main event, but it’s nearly eclipsed by the Korean fried chicken wings served in a delightfully messy gochujang sauce. If you’ve spent the day walking around Roma, this is a great way to refuel at lunchtime." - guillaume guevara

Modern Korean Restaurants Are Spreading All Over Mexico City | Eater

"Evolving from a 2020 home kimchi business into a family-run restaurant opened in December 2021, this Roma eatery reflects a multigenerational immigrant story and a practice of adaptation. The menu features everyday Korean home dishes—bossam, bulgogi, fried chicken, and japchae—while experimenting with Mexican inflections such as kimchi used in a michelada, perilla leaves in local preparations, and doenjang in desserts. The project emphasizes keeping culinary traditions alive while creatively integrating ingredients and techniques discovered in Mexico." - Robyn Huang

The flavor was ok, we liked the fried chicken, but the bulgogi had no much flavor, and the japchaeo has only black pepper flavor. The portion was small but the waiter explained to us that two people need to order 3-5 dishes so it make sense. Not recommend for those who looking for an original Korean flavor.

The most inedible Korean food in one of the most beautiful settings. It pains me to give such a bad review of this place because I want Koreans to flourish everywhere, but they have to do something about their cooking. I don’t even know where to start. The rice is fine because it came from the rice cooker. The kimchi is awful-it is neither fresh nor fermented. It has no taste. It is not salty, sour, sweet, or has any unami. The tofu jorim was edible but not good and oddly textured. The fish jorim was a laughingstock-I can’t believe something this sweet is being served as a fish dish. The sauce was so sticky and sweet it was barely edible. The worst was the dwenjang jjigae-it was so awful. Literally just brown broth with stuff in it that looks like the real thing. The potatoes were uncooked as well. I don’t know if the Koreans who run this place just never ever taste their own food, but it’s a huge disgrace to be selling this food, this price…it feels scamy almost. We left feeling hungry and sad and upset. Taste your food please!!! And make adjustments.

This is an awesome little spot for a peaceful Korean meal if you're looking for veggies and a switch from tacos in Mexico City

Great option for Korean food in la Roma. After being in Korean places like LA, NY and SF we're kind of picky, the food wasn't amazing but it's really good. The service was great, the manager gave us a couple of great recommendations and even a shot of soju as a gift. The design is simple and comfy. Go check them out.

The place is so lovely, perfect for a date night or just a night out with friends. The waiters are really nice too. Loved the concept of small plates because we got to try many, although some of them were lacking some flavor unfortunately (skip the tartare and the bulgogi).

Google
Dooriban a little piece of Korea in Mexico City. The place is small and cozy with beautiful, modern decor. The food is properly seasoned and very tasty, although the portions lean on the smaller side. All the food feels like prepared at home.

Great food and great service! Would be great if bossam come with garlic slices and green chili. But still very satisfying! We were very impressed with the desserts! This is high-dining level of desserts. Fresh, original and yummy. Great experience, would recommend.

Food was delicious and service was great! Recommend making a reservation if you plan on going during busy hours, seating is very limited.
