Bummed to have figured out that we couldn’t eat in (NYC required vaccine card from everyone), but ordered out instead. Delicious food. $70 spent on bread basket, 3 main course (including lamb curry, chicken vindaloo), mango lassi, and two appetizers. Nice staff, excited to direct us next door to Ceylon grocery, and giving us our first taste of the fruit-mangosteen (sp?). Would go back again!

Got the Chicken Biryani and the Masala Dosa. Huge portions, delicious and flavorful so you'll definitely be full and happy. Allergy friendly since I was able to eat everything despite having a nut and dairy allergy, just let them know about your allergy. Will visit again.

We came here on Very quite day Wednesday night. It was me just us.Very very disappointing the food was so cold specially sambhar was so watery and no taste. We eat because we order the food but my 4 year old son who loves plain dosa was not eating. So you can imagine. The restaurant was so cold we complained that it’s cold and pls turn on the heater but the owner denied and said it’s not cold really it was 13 degree outside. Pls don’t go there and teach them a lesson. They don’t give free food or cheap food it’s a regular prize. We all worked hard to get our money and go out to eat so we can enjoy the food this is so bad. I can make better at home and can have hot food. So so so disappointed ☹️

Been eating at Edison for the last 5 years, never have I had such homely Indian food around. I was surprised Idiyappam was listed in the menu and immediately went for it. Spicy coconut milk exceeded my expectations.

As soon as I entered I was greeted with a smile. I like that. Water and utensils came fast and before the menu. Huge menu, and I learned the difference between food from Sri Lanka and India. Their menu has both and it’s very vegetarian friendly. I ordered the Palak Paneer and some cheese naan. Finished it all with a glass of Lion Stout from Sri Lanka that was very high in alcohol content. It was great, and I had a awesome time. The only thing missing was the music.

I took an out of town friend to have dinner at Dosa. The server was very helpful and made sure we were happy with our dishes. Each dish was delicious, good sauces with just the right spicy heat. Had my favorite Garlic Nan - so good to scoop up the sauces with!

NEW OWNERSHIP. No more comforting experience with great service. I really miss the old waiter who helped you decide what to get. These owners yell at each other, the phones are ringing off the hook, there's a line of doordash and ubereats people waiting forever. The food is just blah. The old dosa really was the best on the island. The fact that these owners didn't change anything and left THIS AWARD WINNING PLAQUE on the wall is pretty ballsy. RIP to a legendary place.

This might be the first spot in Staten Island I have actually reviewed, lol. But hey! When you heard that Staten Island is known for their Sri Lankan food and you've just finished the Staten Island Half, what else should you do aside from trying some out? :) Loves: + Good value for good food + Lots of menu choices + Really sweet staff + Accepts credit cards + Open before noon Honestly, it was a nice treat to be here and eat after running 13.1 miles. I can't speak much to Sri Lankan food at large but this place was good and well priced for what it was. The owners were also especially kind. Thank you, New Dosa Garden!

SMH, yet again. Some places are simply not worth second chances. This place is just sad & infuriating. Not going to mince words. The audacity to serve an $18 chicken Marsala in a small bowl that is barely enough to feeds a child. Owners think that's cute, but it's not. No one should tolerate this cheapness. Talk about "Shrinkflation!". Service - what service, this a 2 person makeshift food cart. The lack of indoor diners during peak dinner time on a Saturday evening should be a warning sign. Wait you will, and you will also witness the poor Uber delivery saps waiting for their packages as well. The lady serving us brought serving plates from the china table near by, one at a time. Talk about inefficiency. I thought I died and waiting in Dante's Limbo. Ambiance - I've dined here many years ago until I had enough of the poor customer service and food quantities. Took an 8 year break and decided to give this "New" ownership a try. I'm more disappointed now than I was back then. Place is the same old raggedy place. Not one dollar invested in it. Old, tired, and dissapointing. No music, not ambiance, just a lifeless waiting room. I'll be honest, this is a business and the people running it have no business doing what they do. I'd rather drive 50 minutes to Jackson Heights, Queens, pay the tolls and gas to dine at an authentic Sri Lankan / Indian restaurant than drive few blocks to the New Dosa Garden.

Nice food, if you book at 5pm. Lazy assholes left me waiting for an hour before my order was cancelled. Now I'm hungry and angry. It was a $100 dollar order.

Awesome place for Indian food. Dosa Garden could be the best restaurant on Staten Island. It shouldn't be that hard to do, you think. Close however are several other great ethnic places. This is a good reason for exploring the island beyond the ferry terminal. Getting here usually is hard. If you're not from the island, it pretty much sucks as is getting to anything else that's on it. The ferry is the best way. Once at the terminal, get on a public bus. Take it into the Tompkinsville neighborhood. I have only been here once, just because of the inconvenience. The one time I came with my female partner in crime and got here for the lunch special. It's about $9 and it's a pretty big meal. This includes a dosa, idli, and vada. I got it with a masala dosa. She had it with a mysore dosa. These were big enough we could have split one and shared. Along with the dosas came idli. It's good for soaking up the sambar. The vada is also good when soaked in sambar. It's quite a lot of food. The good thing is we were hungry after the long ride to get here. It left a better impression of Staten Island. It's not a complete wasteland as many believe. There's a few other ethnic restaurants here like this.

Dosa Garden is a hidden gem in Staten Island. I haven't had South Asian takeout in a while and decided to try this place out. I ordered online and by the time I arrived it was ready for pickup. Masala dosa: Since I ordered for pickup, unfortunately, the crispiness and round form was not there. But the taste of the dosa was amazing. The potato curry in the middle was wonderfully paired with the dosa. By the time I finished, I was very much full. Paneer tikka masala: The paneer was eaten along with the dosa. As usual, it was amazing. Overall, I will definitely come back here. The dishes are affordable and very filling. Recommend it to my friends and family who are looking for Indian dishes.

My husband and I had dinner at J&R Dosa Garden. We had chicken with spinach and I had the curry with spinach with paneer cheese, the garlic naan and the samosas. All was made to order and the level of spicy you can handle. You dont have to go to Manahattan to have great south indian food. This is a little gem in Staten island to curve your cravings for indian food. The variety in the menu is great, they have vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. And many kinds of Dosas . The food was delicious so much I loved seeing my husband scraping the bowls with naan. The service was great. If you want to eat tandoori chicken we were told to call them ahead bc it takes one hour to make the dish. Everything tasted fresh. You can order take out via Uber eats and grub hub. Be adventurous you will not regret it

I had a massive craving for some Indian Food and based on the reviews I decided to give this place a go. I ordered via phone and waited roughly 30 minutes to get my food. based on the good reviews I thought it would be worth the wait. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala along with Jasmine Rice and 1 Garlic Naan Bread. Let's start with the Masala, The aroma was delightful, a lot of the spices shine through the sauce which instantly put a smile on my face. However, when I took a bite out of the chicken my smile went away. The chicken was hard, dry, and super rubbery. They used chicken breast instead of chicken thighs. It always appeared that I had two types of chicken just thrown into the sauce. Some pieces of the chicken had holes from a skewer while others didn't. Some had burnt marks while other's didn't. Again the chicken was super rubbery and bland. Most of the flavor came from the sauce. The Jasmine rice tasted stale about 1 day old. The Garlic Naan was super doughy and undercooked. I was still able to smell the raw dough through the garlic smell. This was my first time ordering from here and based on this experience it will also be my last.

Have eaten here (dine in) a few times and they are pretty consistent every time. Latest visit was no exception. I had a lunch special consisting of several veg and meat curries, sauces, naan and dessert so it was quite filling, I nearly finished the entire thing. I love their papadams and dessert is very good too. Portions are generously sized and service is very good. Sadly, it was just my hubby and I dining during our last visit, which is a sad sign of the times. I hope the neighborhood supports this business because the food is authentic and very very tasty. If you have a craving for Indian or have never tried it before, this is a very good option! I will be back soon for more papadams!

I like this place. I never before true this cuisine-- that was my first time. And every thing was little spicy and very good. I get full very fast +++thay have many vegan things

Came here on a Sunday night for dinner with my family. It was pretty empty but got packed by the time we were done. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was polite and efficient. The restaurant is small, cute, simple, & clean. No complaints. We got the medhu vada which were probably some of the BEST I've had. Super crispy and light but super soft on the inside. I got the Mysore cheese dosa and needed to eat it in two sittings because it was so filling. It was very good. Overall it was a great experience and will definitely be coming back when I need my dosa fix.

The workers here are the nicest people ever! And the food is so amazing. They provide outdoor seating, and also you can order from them online! 10/10

My first time trying this type of cuisine. I did a pick up order. We got chicken briyani, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan and a dosa. Honestly I was underwhelmed. The flavors didn't wow me and I feel like the food was kind of bland. But the chicken was moist and wasn't dry so props to them! Maybe I've been spoiled with spicy south Asian foods and I was expecting the same. I would definitely give them another try and test out some other foods from the menu. Everything was meticulously packed though!

This was my first time ordering from Dosa Garden and will be my favorite moving forward. Food was delicious and the service is perfect. Friendly staff and owners are very knowledgeable especially from someone who is not well versed in this food specialty. The channa palak chick peas and spinach was a delicious vegetarian dish next to the shrimp korma and chicken makhani. Everything was fresh. Our breads were perfect and dessert of kesari was amazing.

Typically order delivery as im trying to eat more healthy. I love their dahl with white jasmine rice and the tomato soup broth. I always feel that it's a good healing meal after a night of drinking or if you feel under the weather. Delivery is slooooooow so i just order an hour and a half before i know ill be hungry and then it comes right on time lol even when i do pick up its 25 min mininum. Still love this place and they have parking!!!

I ordered from Dosa Garden on their site, and never received my food. 40 mins after placing my order I called to check in they acted like they ' didnt see it come in' and told me I would get a call from the owner and they would make it and send it out. 40 mins after that, nothing so I called back and they tell me they never got the order. No call from anyone. I waited an hour and a half for no reason if I hadnt called I would have no idea it wasnt coming. The woman on the phone told me its 'not my problem'. Not only were they unapologetic but they weren't answering the phone and kept hanging up on me. Finally after an argument they call me back and tell me my order was cancelled. So if you never received the order how did you cancel it? Im all about supporting businesses but this experience was a nightmare.

Amazing food!! Try the Mutton Fry and the Egg Kottu, and chilly chicken!! Extremely good service! Good outdoor outdoor sitting! Highly recommend!

I love there service, I got my vegetarian samosa sandwich a Paper Dosa my God delicious I eat all of it with the souce it was so good, YES you need to go and taste the food I'm going back again again and again yum.

I really like this place, even though I am not a fan of dosa. There are enough other things on the menu to make you forget the name and love the food. I usually start with mulligatawny soup, but an alternative is the delicious tomato soup. Forget about Campbell's and boring plain tomato soup, this is spicy and rich. For an entree I like the grilled eggplant and also the various biryanis. They are not dry as in some other places. There is a parking lot! That's a small miracle in this congested corner of the North Shore of Staten Island, and if you prefer, you can order takeout and get your meal packaged artfully and secure. It could use a bit more ambience, but overall, I highly recommend.

Great service, delicious food! I highly recommend this place. The waiter took extra attention for my kids' order so they will be no too spicy, and the kids loved it.

Our family mostly order from the take away menu as we make "what are we gonna eat when we get home" decision at the moment we park the car. Since our decisone is always at the last minute it is unanimously Indian-Dosa. Our favorite is tikka masala and samosas. Then we try something new and we still think the tikka masala is more appealing to our palate. We always enjoy our meal and always wish the portions would be bigger as there is never enough basmati rice to the ratio of the tikka and for the 14+ price I would want the rice to come in the medium container instead the tiniest ontainer and I wind up cooking extra rice. In addition the tikka masala comes in a small container, when it should be in the medium size container. The samosas are also small compared to other place. At the end of the day we still order from Dosa as it's convenient and we don't order as often as we would like just for the reasons listed above. if I saw that I could get enough food for my bucks I would order more often. With that said the food is authentic and delicious, and that's the only reason I keep going back.

This place was great! wonderful service. the outdoor seating slants cause its a parking lot BUT i was into it. The dosa was phenom, the samosa chaat was to die for, and the sri lankan roti thing i had was exceptional. AND it was all relatively cheap for the quality of food. Definitely would return and recommend it to friends. ALSO Easy to bike to from the Ferry.

Remind self to come back here if ever in Staten Island. Best masala dosas ever. Crispy, thin crepe with potatoes. Complete with mango lassis, of course. They had me drinking glasses of water after water. I loved everything we ordered. They also have my lamb biryani! Baaa. Our food took up the entire table.

Please go and eat here. I tell my friends that there are many restaurnats that are wholes in the walls that just need a little more clientele and this is one of them. The food was amazing. There plates are cute and you can share most things with everyone. They have SO MANY VEGAN/VEGETARIAN OPTIONS!!! It was just refreshing because I always feel like I don't have enough options anywhere and this place just did it. There weren't just Indian flavors But also Chinese and Thai flavors too! The creaminess from the sauce in my chicken masala was very light and a good kind of spicy. My partner got the shrimp vindaloo and it was loaded with some many vegetables. Before our entrees we had some rasam and chicken corn soup and everything had so much spice and flavor. Great environment sweet people. Will go again. My taste buds just kept going crazy in the best way.

I love dosa garden so muchhhhhhh ~ I've been ordering from here for years. The drumstick soup is so healing when you are not feeling well, and it tastes delicious. Good portion size and price also. I just wish they wouldn't charge for mint and tamarind sauce - as most places include it with every order by default and will have it at each table as a default condiment. That is the only frustrating thing. Because the online menu says pay 75 cents for extra - when in reality it's just paying 75cents to get it at all, not for extra- but it depends because sometimes they include extra, sometimes not. (Regardless it seems of what sort of food you order) I also really wish they would allow lunch specials for delivery and not just pickup. They would probably get a lot of business from that and I don't know why they strictly don't offer it. Other than that minor complaint for delivery - They are very generous with just about every other sauce that comes with other items - dosas come with multiple things to dip them into, and all portions are generous --- but most importantly the food is delicious. They use complex spice blends in each dish and you can really tell the food is made with care. Dosa garden is one of the few places in the st George area that are worth ordering delivery from - as most will just give you really badly and carelessly prepared bland food that is low quality and a waste of money and your time, or like total crazy heart attack junk food. Pretty much anything you get from dosa garden will be tasty and interesting you can tell it's home made. My favorites are: drumstick soup - healing and delicious. Mysore masala dosa - way bigger and more filling than you may expect, and so is inexplicably good with the sauces and tiny soup it comes with. chicken tikka masala - pretty comparable to the masalawala in the LES - and the chicken is good boneless white meat chicken, not weird flubbery dark meat malai kofta - a decent malai kofta - much more flavorful w the cream sauce of course but I usually get it in coconut milk instead to help slightly cut some of the calories. I wish they kinda added a little more pizazz to it w some shaved almonds or something, but it's still great and you will be very happy with it I'm sure naan/ whole wheat roti - sometimes the naan is a little too charred and I wish it was a little thicker but it still does the trick. Roti is best when torn up and mixed in some sauce - sorta thick and stuff if you were to just eat it alone - I don't really know much about roti though so I can't really say. Veg samosa - a yummy and good samosa It's a business that has been here for a while and a good one to support - I don't know what we would all do without dosa garden

Upon entering we were greeted by a lovely woman who was the owner. The decor is indicative of the country. Seating is ample. We were seated promptly. We came around lunch time on a Saturday and they offered a very nice and affordable lunch special as well as the regular menu. They offer Sri-Lanka beer , wine and regular soft drinks. The menu was a mix of Sri-Lankan and Indian. We ordered the Dosa Lunch special and Chicken Tikka Masala. The portion were large and the food was delicious. On another note the bathroom was very clean. And they have their own parking lot. would definitely be returning again!!

Loved the food. They make it flavorful and the goat Birla is wasn't dried out like it is at many restaurants. Their vegan menu was extensive, allowing my friend to enjoy great food, while not worrying about what was in it.

Pretty good Indian food. Being that good Indian options are limited in Staten Island, I would definitely return. The Naan was exceptionally good. The wait staff was really nice. They have outdoor seating set up in the parking lot sure to covid.

We were a group of friends, one of whom is Sri Lankan. We were afraid it might not be spicy enough, and it wasn't extremely spicy, but lots of nice flavors. The food is very filling because there's so much bread in it. We started with a big potato dosa that's a 2-foot wide pancake, then bready idli dumplings, both fried and steamed. All the apps came with 3 chutneys: lentil dal, coconut chutney, and a moderately spicy red sauce. We got a chicken curry cooked with chopped-up roti bread and a side of kind of a spicy gravy. The spiciest things of the night were eggplant and okra, mainly because they had whole dried chilies in them. Washed everything down with mango lassis and Sri Lankan beer, which has an 8.8% alcohol content! Got to admit we went there because our first choice was closed, but it was fine. I would go back.

This place has more then earned their 5th star! Always good its now great. Love ordering the chana palak for a veggie option or the markhoni chicken for a meat option. Quality every time. Best on staten island and there is a lot of competition for sri lankan/indian here.

First, let me start off with this: I love dosas. Its my favorite cuisine from India. I came in on a Tuesday afternoon and was the only one in there. I had the idly vada appetizer which was pretty good. Unfortunately, the coconut chutney and soup it came with was pretty sad. The coconut had a hint of freezer burnt in it, and the soup wasn't that flavorful. The dosa was pretty bad. Instead of a crispy lentil rice shell, it was soggy and greasy. It also looked really unappetizing, like a melted face. Not like the kind of face melting you'd experience from seeing a brutal death metal band like Suffocation, no, it looked straight up like 80s Pushead art. The service was pretty poor. I had to keep asking for water. If you're in a bad pinch for vegetarian food, I'd stick with the appetizers. If you really want south Indian food, take the ferry, get on the 6, and go to 28th and Lexington.

Went there with my mom, she loved it and so did I! They make everything from scratch so it's not 'fast' but it's fresh! Lots of food options!!

A friend recommended the place because she saw that it received good reviews on Yelp for vegetarian food. I have eaten too much Indian food lately so I was happy to see they offer Sri Lankan food. Unfortunately, there were only a few vegetarian Sri Lankan options to chose from. I got excited that there was an "Indo Chinese" section, as I've heard Indian Chinese food is incredible. Unfortunately, the only veg option in this section was veggie fried rice, which the server confirmed isn't particulalrly interesting or Indian-influenced. My friend and I went with the nut-filled naan, which was so-so. It was definitely harder then usual naan, which is perhaps because of how the nuts affect the cooking process. We found the taste to be a bit bland. It would benefit greatly from a sauce, but since the bread was slightly sweet, it wouldn't be appropriate to douse it with some of the usual Indian chutneys. We also went with one of the Sri Lankan appetizers called "string hoppers" or something like that. They were rice noodle cakes with various sauce toppings like tomato, and two coconut toppings. For $5, you get a TON of food. Very different from anything I've ever had and I enjoyed it.

This time we had the masala dosa which (see my picture) is an insanely huge crepe rolled up, with a dab of savory potatoes inside. (So good to break off chunks of the crispy dosa and dip them in sambar or one of the chutneys.) We also shared a vegetable thali, and I was so full for the rest of the day I didn't even eat dinner. The spices really sneak up on you; you think you're fine, until--whoa! Sublime.

Not the worst but if you're lookin for good Indian this ain't it. Samosas are very bland and without peas or the usual (the crust was ok but again flavorless). The chicken tikka masala sauce had no flavor, and it's traditionally alittle tangy where ever you go, and they put way too much onions in the sauce. The naan was raw dough texture in some spots. Just an honest review and I've eaten at a lot of Indian spots.

Small owned restaurant. No one was there when we went in and waited around for a few minutes for sometime to realize we were there. After we got our food, the waitress disappeared and never came to check up on us. I'm not a huge fan of Indian food, but figured I'd be adventurous and try something new. My feelings for Indian are unchanged after my meal.

I moved from the south shore to the North shore of StAten Island. tHE sRI LANkan communtiy in this side of town gives one some spicey choices when it comes to dining. Dosa Garden is a good place for Dosa especially if youre home sick and craving the good stuff. *Also have Special Madras coffee.

I wish we had this restaurant in Boston! Was in NY on a business trip. Absolutely delicious; some of the best food I ate while in NYC.

Pros: Excellent food! Extremely flavorful! Cons: Service Bottom Line: You don't come to a place like this for the ambiance. You come here strictly for the food. Do yourself a favor and get the chicken dosa.

They really need to do something about their unsmiling waitress and her attitude. Also, Friday night, we're the only ones in the place and it takes 35 minutes to get our appetizers??? When we ask why, the unsmiling waitress tells us rudely that they are busy with take-out orders. They appear to recycle the same curry in appetizers and every other dish. We gave this place three tries and we're done with them.

Our waitress was amazing, explained the menu with great detail. The dosa was delicious, the Naam was freshly toasted, chicken tikki masala and shrimp briyani were very tasty. Very inexpensive with rather large portions!

Yum. I have resisted going to this restaurant for years, assuming they had nothing for a low-carb diet. But then a friend of Sri Lankan descent came to town and we went. Wow! Great menu. Not a bad dish! Loved the Lamb Vindaloo - no bones! And they made it without potatoes for me. Also terrific: Palak Paneer (a little spicy, which was GREAT!), and the Bindhi Fry - little pieces of okra fried with coconut, for a great taste and amazing texture. On another occasion, we called ahead to order the tandoori chicken, which takes a long time to cook. It was so tender, moist and flavorful! I highly recommend this place. Hope it stays around forever and ever.

This is my second time here and again everything was great. The service was prompt and attentive. The lady was very nice and answered all of my ridiculous questions with a smile. I had the Chicken Vindaloo, Chicken Soup, and the garlic Naan Bread and it was just out of sight. If you are shy of spicey food be sure to specify how spicey you like it because they will blow your asshole off if you let them. May I add the last time I was here I had the Curry Lamb and that was spectacular as well.

Poor food, horrible taste. We used to love this place few years back. But the last two times we brought food from here, food tasted horrible. Not sure if the quality was so bad because it was take out on a Sunday evening. Anyways Chicken 65 was plain with no spice, salt nothing except red food color, puri was flaky made out of old dough. Never going to buy from here again. Kind of expensive for such cheap quality food

My husband and I went to this restaurant on a whim and we were so happy our other plans were cancelled that night! The service was excellent, the food was exceptional, and everything seemed clean and well kept. This restaurant is as authentic as it gets! Highly recommended for anyone who loves great flavors!

I really love this place! I prefer to order online and pick it up because their service and delivery is very slow. I haven't had a bad dish yet as I work my way through the entire menu, which is extensive. Portions are large and excellent for the prices they charge. I've ordered their food for parties and its always been a hit with guests. Something different from the typical Staten Island scene.

My family and I came here for Mother's Day for dinner. We waited about ten minutes to order and then we all did order, the food took about an hour to arrive. Not to mention my dad first ordered a dish that they didn't have but we weren't informed of that till 30 min after he had ordered. And when he did reorder a new dish they said it would take another 45 minutes to make it so we went with something else. The food quality was good and they were good portion sizes, however the wait time was a disappointment.

Went to check out dosa bar- but did not get dosa. That's probably where I went wrong. I got the mutton kothu, medium spicy which I found out is basically like a Sri Lankan fried rice except dosa replacing the rice. When I added some hot sauce it had pretty good flavor. However it was lukewarm and took forever to come out. My husbands chicken dosa tho was on point, dosa thin crispy and hot with some good sides. The workers are very nice, but they were probably understaffed. Additionally it would be really nice if they played some background music but instead it's just dead silent in there and sorta awkward-apparently they aren't allowed to play music there anymore because some douchbag customer got in a fight with another idiot customer over a sports game which was playing loudly and so thumbs up for the servers but big thumbs down for idiots who get in fights over how loud the tv is.
