The Best Dougnuts in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Nathalie Kaspy-Shtern may be a licensed criminologist with three degrees, but she also makes a fine doughnut. Her punny flavours, like the Cereal Killer (topped with your childhood favourites), the Tru-Doh (with brownies) or the Espress-O-Self, with its cinnamon and vanilla bean glaze, are sure to please. Oh, and vegan and gluten-free options are also available." - Daniel Bromberg

Google
Such a lovely experience! The lady who greeted me had such a warm and positive attitude. So many donut options — all beautifully displayed and even better tasting! Fresh, delicious, and to top it off, I was given a free one to take on the road. Highly recommended! 🍩✨

Google
Amazing donuts 🍩 I finally had the pleasure to go to DoughNats, and I'm sad I haven't gone sooner! I got to taste the flavors of season 14. I love the size of the donuts ( a 2 bite donut ) and loved the flavors even more. My 2 favorites were the rasberry jelly and the carrot cake donut. And how picture perfect are these donuts?! I'm obsessed ♡

Google
Love this freshly made challah bread. Great service and very neat environment. The presentation of food is quite pleasant, very cute and chic bakery shop. It saved me from my aspiration to have challah bread before Friday afternoon(most similar bakeries would be closed). We will definitely come back again.

Google
Way too sweet, and the flavors aren't that good. I gave 2 stars because the DoughNats are pretty, and each actually tasted different. Wouldn't buy again though. **They get stale really quick.**

Google
Impressive array of flavours and all of them were perfect for what they were. I've tried a few different local donut places and this may be my favourite.

Google
These donuts are not only an art-masterpiece, they are incredibly power packed with flavour. I was shocked how good they tasted that I went back to order another 6 for my mom. Fact: These guys know how to bake the perfect donut, not for debate. If your craving donuts , you gotta try these Highly recommend

Google
DoughNats went out of their way to deliver birthday doughnuts for my daughter to make her day special. The ability to order letter doughnuts to spell out “Happy Birthday” made them even more unique. The treats were very much enjoyed by my daughter and her class. The process was easy, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

Google
For the first time my daughter was able to enjoy a vegan doughnut. She is severely allergic to eggs and she loves the doughnuts here. I’m so happy I found this place. When I called to order, the person I spoke to was super nice. Thank you again.

Yelp
I can see why people are saying these donuts are expensive for their size. It's $13.50/box of 6. However, when looking for a good vegan dessert for a friend, I decided to give DoughNats a try. The shop is clean and minimalist. There are display donuts on the counter but the ones you get are tucked in a drawer under the counter. I was greeted upon walking up to the counter and the clerk walked me through the options. You can only order donuts by the half dozen or dozen. You also cannot mix and match the regular, the vegan, or the triple threat (vegan, gluten-free, baked) options. I bought 6 vegan ones for my friend and tried the triple threat for myself. They release different donut flavor creations each season which is a nifty concept. There's a jar of plain donut holes for sampling at the cash. From what I tasted, it was soft, lightly fried and only slightly sweet. My friend thought the vegan donuts were tasty and super cute to look at. As for the triple threat donuts, they're actually more like cake. You can't tell that they're vegan and GF actually so that's good. They have tiny cookies available by the dozen, also available as regular or VGF. They can be purchased frozen and baked at home. 5 stars for taste, maybe minutes 1 star for such a tiny size lol.

Yelp
Just went there early on today to try this place and definitely ain't disappointed service was really good and the person behind the counter was really sweet. Also loved the funky names of their donuts like the Coco Chanel, The Snoop Pop or the Nicky Minaj a 3 as exemples which pretty funny. I've been surprised cause everything they sell are on the miniature side which does give quite a little charm to their products . Defintely recommand this place I did loved it

Yelp
I don't understand the hype about this place. Ordered a dozen doughnats for delivery to bring to a dinner and I thought I received the wrong order when I opened it. They were so small, about 2-3 inches big and they were not supposed to be "mini", these are their regular size! Also beware, they have many options including allergen free which is appreciated but I had ordered the nutella stuffed donut and only one was stuffed with nutella. I wish this was specified on their website. Other than that, the flavours were quite creative but it felt as though it was the same donut but with different toppings. For $2 a donut I would expect something bigger or different doughs.

Yelp
The service while ordering these, moist, fresh, custom donuts was more than stellar. All we did was send pictures and they took it from there with flavours and design and we were not dissapointed. These little bundles of doughy goodness may be small but they pack a delicious punch. These beautifully presented sweets made us very happy.

Yelp
Omg. Run, don't walk to eat them. You have to buy a minimum of 6 mini doughnuts but that isn't a problem because they're so GOOD. The lemon one didn't taste like dish soap (a problem many bakers have with making things taste lemony without going too far). The cruller was custardy and great... and the Nutella was delicious.

Yelp
Whenever a bakery succeeds in offering the people a new and unique concept, I always have to try it out, especially in Montréal, where you can find bakeries everywhere. DoughNats served us delicious mini donuts that are all unique in their own way! From cheesecake to coffee, lime or maple syrup, these baby donuts do not disappoint and trust us, you won't be able to eat just one! We also ordered cookies which were very good, but I would stick more to the donuts! The service was great and the location is very easy to access!

Yelp
Horrible and rude service. I don't know what's wrong with our attendant, but oh boy she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I was mesmerizing the place, and the lady snaps at me to get on with my order. So I asked her how does it work... I guess I asked wrong question; she asks me: is your first time with frustration. I really wanted to walk out but I really wanted to try those beautiful looking mini doughnuts. Omg, awful and awful. The donuts topping were stale and dough was not coooked well... Honestly, I am horrified with service and food. Never again, I would step in there. The cover looks beautiful but inside is ugly!

Yelp
Heard randomly about DoughNats through Arthurs Nosh Bar's Instagram account. I decided to check them out Friday but was cutting it pretty close to closing time. The inside is small, cute and brightly lit. Pretty much a takeout place but there was one small table nestled in the corner. The owner, Nat, was very friendly and genuine. She let me try a sample doughnut (Cinder(Nut)tella) before ordering and even threw in an extra one for the road! Love how the posters show off each "season" of flavours. The doughnuts are baked and there's vegan/gluten free doughnuts available. - Half dozen ($10.00) - 2x tru-doh, firework, feeling salty, midnight 3.0 and a vegan strawberry. Pickings were slim as it was end of the day but I asked for a variety of whatever was leftover. Their doughnuts are small but the dough is tasty, fluffy, yeasty and not overly sweet. Perfectly sized! Cute spot. Definitely would come back to try more flavours. Tip: call and order ahead of time.

Yelp
I love to support small business & doughnats is one of my favorite. You feel at home as soon as you walk in. The owner Nat is such an amazing and sweet person. The donuts are so creative from the names (birthday drake, midnight snack, berry beyonce) to the flavors ummm bagel seasoning on a bagel umm YES PLEASE. Plus you always get samples while you wait. Its pricier than what you would pay for donuts but when you see the cute decor, the amazing service and the freshness of the donuts ITS TOTALLY WORTH IT Updated review : ordered birthday donuts from them during the moving process they still responded to me shortly and i hot my order on the scheduled day iam impressed.

Yelp
Teeny tiny doughnuts that are quite expensive. They ran out of the regular doughnuts so I went for the gluten/dairy free and I really liked them. I wouldn't get these regularly because of the size and price to it but they're cute to give to someone. My server was very cheerful and helped me out with my selection. The service was quick. Their doughnuts change by season. They have large posters of the previous flavours. You can also get other desserts. It's a tiny shop on the service road. Parking is either paid at the front or on the side streets but you'll have to walk then.

Yelp
Peanut free bakery!!!! What a wonderful place! To be able to walk into a bakery and be able to order anything in sight for my son without having to worry! We will be a repeat costumer!! The store front is crisp and clean, and staff was so friendly. You can buy a half or full dozen, amazing options to choose from! I bought two dozen to bring to my son's school for his birthday and there were no complaints. This place is perfection.
google avatar

Yelp
For the vegans out there...you can now have doughnuts! I'm not vegan myself, but some of my friends are and are allergic to egg/milk. So it's the best! I thought it would taste less good than regular ones but surprisingly not!
google avatar

Sheryl L.

Yelp
There's one thing I don't get...how are these doughnuts so freaking AMAZING!! I don't get it!! They are DANGEROUSLY GOOD! I can't even. First off doughnats is amazing, it's not only taste but design! If you order something and give them a theme they kill it! I ordered 2 birthday boxes for a friend has "HBD Minnie/Kris". I told them he liked surfing and what they did on the doughnats I was blown away! The attention to detail is impeccable. Yes,it is a little more expensive then your average doughnuts but well worth it! The only downfall for me is that it's very far. Living in south shore makes it so complicated to go get the doughnuts! (Saves me on the calories tho)But they deliver! *Personal Note* just wanted to give a huge thx to Candice (and ur team) for not only making them taste good but looks awesome too!

Ian C.

Yelp
Not worth the money, each tastes pretty much the same and the decor gets really mushy. Overall the freshness (as others have said) is questionable and the generic nature of the bland dough is the most present flavour in each bite.
google avatar

Taylor T.

Yelp
Was so excited to try it but for the price and the size of the them was not worth the drive or the $$$ beautiful donuts and super friendly staff but I'm not impressed and each donut taste the same.
google avatar

Eduardo N.

Yelp
I came from Montreal downtown all the way to get some donuts 20 minutes before closing and I was informed that after 1 PM there was nothing else to buy. I am not sure why they declare closing hour 5 PM if you cannot buy anything before this time. According to de lady, you should arrive very early. It gives me the impression that, after 12 PM everything you can get are leftovers. If you want to make customers happy, inform your business hours based on what you have available. The best donuts are the ones you can eat, not the ones printed beautifully on paper. Christmas time can be used to make new customers, not to lose opportunities.

Yelp
Obsessed with this little shop! First, the name is extremely clever, secondly, the doughnuts themselves are so freaking cute! First time visiting over the weekend and it won't be my last. It's a small place but it's clean and I actually like the design and the layout of the shop. Onto the doughnuts, I love that they offer you smaller size doughnuts because nowadays, hellloo portion control. With the minis, you can try 3 for almost the size of 1 big one. You get so much variety and with every box, the concept of the shop is great. Most shops might just have a look but when I brought these for a birthday it was a big hit! Not only aesthetically pleasing but great taste. The one thing I did notice is they on one of the doughnuts that came with a pretzel, it did taste very stale. Other than that I feel the doughnuts themselves were fresh and delicious.
google avatar

Tyrell S.

Yelp
Scouted a few donut places before choosing doughnats. Definitely made a good choice. This place is awesome with a super friendly staff. They offered samples of the donuts and cookies even after ordering. Their donuts are all delicious and unique. Each one is picturesque and carefully made. The dough is very soft and moist and the toppings and fillings are surprisingly well matched. These gems didnt last very long and the boxes were empty in no time.

Ana Paula S.

Yelp
Really lovely service, the cashier was friendly and kind. Honestly I wish the doughnuts were better, a little stale and the dough itself doesn't taste like much. Definitely on the smaller side.

Kels B.

Yelp
2021: their doughnats are too sweet now and the flavors don't come through. Disappointing but if you like extremely sweet then it's still good.
google avatar

Patricia C.

Yelp
This is now my new favourite doughnut in the city ! Not only are they adorable to look at but they deliver on flavour. The dough is so fresh and tastes phenomenal, the different flavours are original and tasty without being overly sweet. While the doughnuts are smaller than your typical doughnut that doesn't stop them from satisfying a sweet tooth. The prices are reasonable and the service is very friendly and helpful. They do take walk ins but for larger or more specific orders your best bet may be to order online in advance. This is not a sit down location although they do have some limited seating inside. The location itself is very clean and the delicious smell pulls you in even before you walk in the door. Definitely recommend this place to all doughnut lovers and to those who aren't big doughnut fans , this place may convert you !

Yelp
Delicious and gluten free options. This was a super find and with it. In an off the beat location but easy Uber ride. The gluten free donuts were really tasty.

E P.

Yelp
Best vegan donuts I've had...only downside is that the donuts are a bit pricey for their size but I think this is true for most vegan desserts.
google avatar

D S.

Yelp
An amazing donut shop doing something unique in the category! All the donuts are about 1/3rd the size IMO of say a Tim Horoton's donut. Might seem like a whatever thing but it's great for a few reasons - for people who don't want to eat a usual size donut but want something small this is perfect - for people who do like donuts you can have a few flavors over just having one donut! Came in here, chatted with the owners, they are nice as hell and love their work. Shows in the food. Tasty flavors all around, and they also make this cookie dough that is shelf stable and happens to be vegan as well, it is delicious! Bonus points for being a few shops down from Snowden Deli, go get some breakfast there then stop by here!

Yelp
Great little place. The doughnuts taste phenomenal and the constant change of flavours is what keeps me hooked. Nat is a delightful and fun person to deal with, and she is super generous! Can't wait to go back there again.
google avatar

Chrisy Y.

Yelp
Love this place! Great flavours for donuts. Yeast donuts are the key to my heart and they are one of the best in Montreal! Fluffy and moist and not overpowered by icing and cream. Breakfast in bed is my favourite.... Can't wait for their next season on donut flavours!
google avatar

Liliane V.

Yelp
Not only are their donuts perfectly sweet and delicate; not greasy at all just so delicious and addictive, their customer service experience is unmatched. We were driving in from Toronto and was stuck in traffic way past the scheduled pick up time. They were closing and instead of telling us to f off which they could have, they waited for us to arrive. Thank you again for going out of your way like that. You guys are awesome!

Lucy F.

Yelp
They look good. They're not. Really have nothing else to say. I was excited to try them, but they really taste very ordinary and are not as light airy as a yeast doughnut should be.

Greta E.

Yelp
What a beautiful little donut shop with friendly passionate staff & wonderful little creations! Each donut is a delicate play of flavours! We tried a box of 6 of season 4 menu & with exception of one (you have to be into savoury staff) everything was fresh & delicious. Drop by!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing doughnuts ! Me and my boyfriend went in and the girl at the counter (not sure if it was the owner) was the sweetest to us . They were playing hip-hop music while working ,which is definitely my kind of vibe . 2 thumbs up

Yelp
Been getting doughnuts here for the last few months mainly because my brother is a vegan and it was one of the few places I could get dessert for my whole family. However yesterday will be the final time I ever buy from this place again. While the dough itself was fresh, the ingredients were disgusting and very stale. The one that had a mini pretzel on it tasted like it came out of a bag from the 70s. All the doughnuts ultimately taste exactly the same, with a different variety of expired toppings sprinkled on. Donot be fooled by the high amounts of traffic or the trendy branding of this place. The actual quality of the food is not worth the price for a donut the size of a couple of loonies glued together. Hopefully another doughnut shop with vegan options opens up in the near future, but until then I'll just stick to Tim Hortons.

Yelp
After seeing all the social media hype around DoughNats, hubby and I drove over 20 minutes a few weeks ago to try out these famous doughnuts. Walking in, there's a clear white counter with a doughnut menu and some samples to try. Upon tasting the sample, I was really disappointed because it tasted like nothing but I figured the mini doughnuts would be amazing because of all the publicity around this place. We ended up buying 12 (expensive) mini doughnuts (one of each flavor) which ended up being so monotonously flavored and disappontingly bleh. For such beautiful pieces of edible art, these really are nothing to write home about. I really have no idea what all the hype is about - Léché is still the absolute best doughnut place in the city but even a Tim Horton's or Krispy Kreme (neither of which I'm a fan of) have doughnuts that are 20 times better tasting than these. If you're going for appearance, buy these but if you want delicious doughnuts, this is unfortunately not the place for you :(

Christine P.

Yelp
I feel the need to vent with my horrible experience at dougnats today. I went in around 2 PM today, the lady behind the counter says " would you like a sample", I said" yes" but then she only acknowledges my husband and hands him a bite size doughnut" !!!! ! as she hands my husband a donut and completely ignores me for the next 5 minutes, in my head I'm like okayyyyyy, so I than ask can you please tell me what's gluten free and she takes me to a mini donut stand that has bite size "cute" donuts and tells me that I have the option of 3, she tells me they are baked not fried and they have more of a brownie type texture. so I than ask for 3 of them to try... now keep in mind they are tiny tiny decorated donuts about 4 or 5 would equal one from tim hortons. than I ask what other products are gluten free, she hesitates and says the mini chocolate chip cookies and the mini oatmeal cookies. a dozen mini cookies are 15.50$. than long and behold she offers me a sample that I was supposed to receive 10 min ago.... so I ask her what she recommends as a sample and she replies the oatmeal and coconut, so I accept the one bite cookie. it had a very cinnamon and salty taste and I'm not a big fan of the overpowering salty taste, so not to insult her I say would it be possible with the dozen cookies to take 3 of the oatmeal coconut and the remainder chocolate chip cookies, she looks me dead straight in the eyes and says "NO" you have to buy them by the half dozen. so I'm taken aback but I still smile and say can you please separate the cookies from the oatmeal and put 6 in one bag and 6 in another, she looks at me again with the most evil look and says " no" we have to put them in one bag". now here I am thinking okay i know my picky 5 year old will see the oatmeal cookies and not even go near that bag and I have this bi":^&*, telling me that she won't separate the bag and I'm the idiot about to spend almost 20$ on 12 bite size cookies.. I than give her the nastiest look and said thank you keep the cookies and stormed out of the store shaking my head saying wtf is wrong with basic customer service. I didn't ask for a discount or free cookies all I asked for was a separate bag!!!!!! horrible horrible horrible customer service. they just lost a potential long term customer because of a plastic bag! wtg doughnats!

Joe L.

Yelp
Great product, super friendly staff, a welcome addition to the neigbourhood. Nice to see real fresh doughnuts being made this way. They are right up there with the other real doughnut shops in town that have opened up in the last few years. You pay for what you get, they are made with love and you can taste it in every bite.
google avatar

Nurjahan B.

Yelp
All I'm going to say is that these doughnuts were just simply DIVINE the taste and the texture it was perfect a little bit more expensive and smaller than your regular Timmies or Dunkin donuts but for the quality it's amazing and it reaches up to the expectations. You can't buy one or two you have to order either box of six or dozen considering how it's more of a delivery service than actual sit down place. But since they're smaller in size you can easily finish a box of six trust me I know and this is coming from someone who doesn't like doughnuts much. They're doughnuts are amazing and perfectly sweet annnnnd they have vegan doughnuts as well !!! I'm not vegan but my friends are and they loved it as well. My favourite would be the vegan Oreo cupcake but that's because I love Oreos hahah. Anyways I would 100% recommend this place if you're looking for a cute bite sized doughnut or you want to surprise your friends on their birthdays and bring them these beautifully created doughnuts :)

Aira B.

Yelp
I really love the flavours and the presentation of their donuts! I like how they change their flavours every months, which gives us a chance to taste other things. The donuts are a little small and a little expensive but I definitely think it's worth it!

She H.

Yelp
Wow! These doughnuts are so delicious. We received a box at the office and I have to say that they were impressive. They are small, but beautifully decorated. They make a perfect gift! Good things come in little packages and these mini doughnuts are just wonderful! :)

Rosie M.

Yelp
Amazing!! Amazing donuts amazing super nice staff. Just an awesome adorable all round great place!

Julia P.

Yelp
Amazing donuts and amazing service. We walked in and they still had great choice. They are smaller than regular donuts, but are enough to soothe your sweet tooth. Can't wait to go back!!

Jay G.

Yelp
Super professional. Great service, creative mini doughnuts. Kids and adults alike live the creative aspects of these little DoughNats. Maple syrup has a drip to the doughnut. Cookies, Captain Crunch, Cheese Cake, Brownie all super cute but you do have to like doughnuts as they have that doughnut aftertaste

Pat C.

Yelp
After seeing the hype around this place online, I decided to drive down to give these guys are try. As we walked in, we got to a white counter with pictures of doughnuts. Honestly the ordering process is quite confusing with many doughnuts not even available from the photos. Also, the young woman at the counter was very rude when we were asking questions about the different kinds of doughnuts. As if it was bothering her we were asking these questions. I don't get it. Besides the awful service at the counter, we decided to grab 6 mini doughnuts to try. They all look amazing and we just had to try a couple. After taking a few bites of the 6 flavours we chose, they all tasted the same! None of them had any substance or wow factor. It was so disappointing. We both just had a bite from each one and threw away the remainder of the doughnuts. We honestly do not know how people enjoy these mini doughnuts and trust me I love doughnuts! I've waited in line in Portland at Voodoo Doughnuts. Those are GOOD doughnuts. But Doughnats is REALLY not worth the hype. Go to Léchés in Saint Henri instead!
