The 13 Best Donuts In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"We wake up at least once a week thinking: “Doughnut Plant sounds good today.” The hefty yeast donuts, with their slightly dense, spongy, and chewy texture, made this place well-known. But don’t ignore their other types like the sourdough, cake, and mini filled ones. Some of our favorites are the coconut cream, tres leches, and the crème brûlée, which gets the brittle, somewhat bitter caramelized top layer just right. They have multiple locations throughout the city, but we prefer their original spot on the Lower East Side." - molly fitzpatrick, carlo mantuano, sonal shah, neha talreja, kenny yang

Google
One of NYC’s best donut shops with a convenient outlet in Grand Central station. It’s underneath in the Dining Concourse before you go down to the LIRR. My favorites are the Peanut Butter and Banana Cream, and the Strawberry!

Google
Lovely doughnuts, tried the chocolate one with coffee. Situated in Grand Central station with other eateries. Shared standing and seating options. 4 star. Will be back again.

Google
OMG!!! Gluten Free Donuts, Say What!!! Sam and Walter took really good care of me at the Donut Plant in Central Station. Walter let me know that they not only feature the two GF donuts but that they take their Specialty Donuts and rotate them out making them GF. Love this! I was so excited to be even able to eat donuts again that I bought both of this months Specials! A Marcona Almond Cake Donut and an Apple Cinnamon Glaze. So freaking good! I’m going to have to make a trip next month just to try the next two they decide to do!

Jody Menzel

Google
Best Gluten Free donuts. Haven’t had a good donut in 30 years and these were great. Even good 2 days after I bought them. They were the size of a normal donut.

Cristina Molinar

Google
We go here everyday when we visit NY. We always bring donuts back with us too! We first saw this place on the Food Network. We been to NY 7 times. PB&J is my favorite donut!

Giusi

Google
Delicious donuts at the Grand Central Station, a bit pricey but very good choice and quality. The coconut cream donut in particular is scrumptious. One of the employees was a bit rude, but the one who served us was nice. Coffee was ok, a good breakfast overall.

Marissa Spletter

Google
Went here at a food festival and loved the apple ciderdoughnut! 🍩 It was perfectly airy and flakey on the outside!

Jessy

Google
Look it’s expensive but the donuts are outstanding which makes this my go-to treat when I’m in the city. The vanilla jam is strategically placed so you get jam with each bite. But my favorite is the crème brûlée- a perfect donut interpretation of the French classic.

Yelp
One of my favorite doghnut shops in NYC! Located in Grand Central, this particular location is perfect for a sweet treat on the go! My go-to order is usually the Brooklyn Blackout. Alas, I decided to try a different flavor and chose the strawberry glazed sourdough donut (vegan). It was surprisingly good! I liked the sourdough flavor and the strawberry which wasn't too artificial. However, I wasn't a fan of the glaze- it just tasted like sugar and didn't add anything to the doughnut flavor-wise or texturally. It also kept flaking off- I think I only ended up eating around half the glaze that was initially on the doughnut. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed this doughnut, and I have loved all of the other doughnut flavors I have tried. Overall, I would highly recommend!

Yelp
Stopped here early on the way to work. They were fully stocked with specialty donuts and coffee. They carry vegan donuts and other unique donuts. I got the vanilla bean donut. It tasted fresh but felt a little denser than I expected. It's NYC so prices are high. I paid $4.75 for one donut. This is a pick up and go kind of place. The cashier seemed nice and efficient. She was the only one there and a line formed quickly. If you are in a rush don't stop here, otherwise go for it. It's a good place to grab a snack for your train ride.

Yelp
I don't eat too many donuts because it's usually too sweet for me and I'm watching my weight. However, walking with my cousin's family from Germany through Grand Central Station, I had to introduce Doughnut Plant to the sweet-tooth members of the group, which were my niece and nephew. I was a little worried that this location would not have the variety or quality that the original shop on Grand Street provides. Luckily, this concern was not unwarranted. All of my favorites were available and tasted identical to what I remember. More importantly, everyone else loved the donuts, even my cousin who does not love sweets. As for the flavors, Coconut Cream yeast donut and Blueberry cake donut were the big winners. With that said, Creme Brûlée and Seasonal Peach were both excellent as well. A few days later, my cousin's family came over to my house for their final meal with relatives before heading back home. To my surprise, she picked up a box of the donuts and said that they had to have them one more time. Guess they really liked it. Lol

Yelp
I stopped by quickly for a little treat while walking through Grand Central Station. The staff were nice and fast. I got the vanilla bean jam doughnut. The glaze was sweet without being too much. The doughnut was yeasty and fluffy with a chewy texture. The jam was tart and there was the perfect amount of it. Overall, it was a solid doughnut experience and I'd definitely come back for more. You can't beat the station location!

Yelp
I was working late in my LIC studio and I decided to checkout DoorDash for a snack and a coffee. I normally do not eat donuts because I am not a fan. This donut shop truly has changed my perspective on the donut eating idea all the way. The tastes are incredibly resembling the actual dessert flavor youre eating which makes me forget I am even eating a donut! I was truly impressed and satisfied. I got the crème brûlée and the Tres Leches! I was unable to go in person but soon will !

Yelp
Wanting a late night snack- we ventured to Grand Central to find this place. Really wonderful and unique doughnuts can be found here. Service was fast and friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
Would definitely go back. I tried one filled donut and it was tasty! Quick and easy to order.
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
I love that they have vegan donut options!! A bit too sweet for my liking, but the texture was super nice and fluffy I really really liked the marcona almond one because it had a slight saltiness to it but I wish it was a yeast donut cuz I like em chewy heh. Chocolate one was also super decadent!
google avatar

Yelp
I love their donuts, I go to doughnut plant especially to get their crème brûlée donut. I was organizing a work event where I needed coffee. I'd never been to this location. Found out online that they conveniently do travelers jugs of coffee- hot and COLD!! And they are located in Grand Central's food court. Since I was ordering large traveler boxes of coffee, I placed the order ahead of time and scheduled for pick up. I was there 15-20mins before my pick up time and Marina was still working on my large order. She was the sweetest and asked me if I wanted a beverage on her as I waited for my order to be completed. She made the experience so much better by being kind and providing great customer service in general. Will be back just because of the pleasant experience. My work group enjoyed the coffee and everyone was impressed as they'd never seen traveler's jugs of cold brew. Positive experience on all fronts. Donut plant, give Marina a raise please, she's out there just making sure all your customers are taken care of.

Yelp
so I just got off the metro North and I really wanted a doughnut. I had a very specific craving and I've been passing by this location so many times so I finally decided to stop by and get myself a carrot cake doughnut. A lot of the other donuts were sold out but keep in mind. It was about 5 PM and I wasn't expecting fresh donuts as if it were 8 AM. the gentleman who helped me was so kind. The service was absolutely fantastic. I also ended up getting a coffee, which is really good, but the cup was leaking so that was kind of annoying. I definitely enjoyed the other flavors as well, including strawberry shortcake, which was sold out
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
I liked the tres leches donut without the whipped cream on top. I got the one with filling and it was light and sweet. If you have a sweet tooth, i recommend getting it!
google avatar

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
Got a TGTG order from here and was very impressed. Firstly staff were so sweet and chose a variety of donuts for us so we could try a few different ones (got 2 bags between me and my friend). My favorites were the berry donut and the tres leches but the others were also quite good. These donuts aren't your traditionally fluffy Krispy Kreme types, but are more cakey with interesting flavors. The pride one we received was the most similar to a "plain glazed" donut and was also very tasty and pretty! The berry was a bit like a very fruit-packed bundt cake and the tres leches was drenched in syrup (so good)! There was also a peanut butter jelly one which tasted like a sandwich - what a combo for a donut! And had lots and lots of peanuts. Overall would def recommend if you're a donut lover as they have a broad selection to choose from, including many vegan options too!
google avatar

Richa T.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab a few donuts to share while waiting for my next train. All in all, the donuts were a hit or miss. I really loved the coffee and gingerbread flavored ones. A good amount of flavor and perfect for a mid morning pick me up. However, the panettone was lacking a lot of flavor. It felt very stale and definitely not with the price. IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC
google avatar

Clarizza A.

Yelp
Got the crème brûlée donut and it was a bit disappointing considering it was $6. The hardened sugar was not hard at all and it was basically a glazed donut. Not worth the price and do not recommend getting this donut.
google avatar

Virginia D.

Yelp
VEGAN REVIEW Stopped by on a Monday evening to try their vegan donut! I was a little skeptical because it's billed as sourdough... was not sure how that was going to work... BUT IT WAS DELISH! When I said I wanted the strawberry flavor the guy basically "warned" me that is was vegan-- I got the sense he does not think too highly of a plant based diet
google avatar

Sarita R.

Yelp
I stopped by around 5:30 pm and picked up two doughnuts--Vanilla Bean and Pistachio--for $10. Unfortunately, both tasted stale, which was disappointing for the price. The chocolate doughnuts were sold out, so I couldn't try those. Overall, not worth the price for the quality I received.

Natalia S.

Yelp
One of the best doughnuts I have tried. The wild berry (cake doughnut): - Moist and flavorful dough. - Glaze matched perfectly with a citrus hint. The other one was the apple crumble. - Filling was balanced and not too sweet. The best part is that after eating, you don't taste the oil. However, the price is expensive, especially for the apple crumble. It was half the size of the regular filled doughnut

Yelp
Located on the lower level of Grand Central Terminal next to track 112 is a little donut spot that is delicious. From great flavored donuts to good coffee , this is a good spot to satisfy your donut sweet tooth. If you're a vegan you're in luck. They have two different just as delicious vegan options that are to not pass up.
google avatar

Nancy M.

Yelp
This was my 2nd time this year having donuts from here. The donuts are super moist and delicious! The carrot cake donut had a little swirl of cream cheese in it, and it was fantastic with my coffee! The employees are friendly, and they have a system of ordering that's efficient!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my second time at the Doughnut Plant inside Grand Central, and I absolutely love it! Had the rose flavor again (the donut is also in the shape of a rose), and it's probably one of my fave donuts of all time. Last time I came, I also had the tres leches donut and remember loving that one too. If you find yourself in the area or need a treat before catching a train, Doughnut Plant is the spot for you!

Deanna C.

Yelp
Absolutely adore this business. My husband and I come nearly everyday, just to see Marina and Gabby! (Of course for the yummy coffee and doughnuts too!) They always have a smile on and the quick service helps us enjoy Doughnut Plant before our busy day. Definitely recommend you stop by and indulge in the overall experience, as we are never disappointed.

Yelp
Coconut doughnut filled with coconut cream. Sometimes snowman shaped. Sometimes square. Always delicious. Great coffee, exceptional service. I miss the location on 23rd next to the Chelsea Hotel but oh well, things change. It's fun to visit the food hall at Grand Central too. Doughnut Plant is a NYC institution.
google avatar

Alexa S.

Yelp
Hello Fellow Yelpers, I stopped by Doughnut Plant inside Grand Central Station. The service was polite and prompt. The donuts were delicious! Freshly baked for sure. I have the tres leches and vanilla bean donuts. While the donuts were great, I truly enjoyed the milk coffee; heads up I personally enjoy a sweet drink so it is somewhat sweet and very milky. I love visiting Grand Central Station because the ambiance is beautiful in particular the the can be mesmerizing. FYI: there are several restaurants for folks to visit. If you are looking for Doughnut Plant go down to the lower level. I added the photo that shows the location.
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
First off the donut is fantastic and when you add the peanut butter icing and the jam filling throughout the entire donut you get a 5 star review. There are many unique flavors of donuts to choose from. You will not be disappointed
google avatar

Zane W.

Yelp
Not really a donut craver but definitely see what's up with the donuts here. I didn't pick this spot but my friend did and so far it's the best in the area. Service is a bit slow but still decent.
google avatar

Alvin Z.

Yelp
Got the vanilla beans and the Brooklyn blackout. The Brooklyn black out was nice and fluffy and melts in your mouth. Really nice chocolate/fudge flavor and would highly recommend. The vanilla bean just tastes like a normal glazed donut nothing special. The staffs were really nice and offered recommendations. I really wanted to try some of their special doughnuts but they were sold out. Would definitely come again!
google avatar

Bjorn P.

Yelp
These donuts are wonderful. Specifically though I'm speaking about the fact they do not use eggs - period. Their donuts are fluffy and life and delicious. Also for those with allergies we were able to have the strawberry , peach and chocolate vegan donuts which had no eggs, no sesame and no nuts. They fry these donuts in separate oil from non vegan donuts and we were told the nuts or other toppings would be applied separately.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Eaten many a doughnut plant donut over the years but these few photos were the only ones I could find for now. Doughnuts are consistently good at all locations (I was regularly going to the grand central station one out of convenience). My favorites were always the creme brûlée and the hazelnut filled but their seasonal fruit ones are always good too. Both their cake and yeast are equally good.

Joanna C.

Yelp
The donuts are always good but I just got the worst cortado of my life at this Doughnut Plant. So burnt and bitter. I had to throw it out after three sips.
google avatar

Adrienne G.

Yelp
Needing a quick morning pick me up on the way to the office & Doughnut Plant was in Grand Central. Go downstairs to the food court & there is a wide variety of options.......including Doughnut Plant Offering the same goodies as their original location, I chose the double chocolate & the coconut cream filled. Man oh man have I missed those donuts! Soft, fluffy, TONS of flavor and for a kiosk in Grand Central, they had a huge selection Also treated myself to a latte with an extra shot & it hit the spot. Perfect coffee to milk ratio & no sugar required. I saved the sugar for the donuts :-)
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
This is the last of 3 reviews I can write for now that came as a result of my visit to Brooklyn. I was on the way back home and needed breakfast, so I grabbed both this and then Zaro's. Now Zaro's I unfortunately can not leave a legitimate review for as I was hungover when I ate my order from there. However, this Doughnut Place will get a true review as I had waited until I was less hungover and more coherent when I ate these doughnuts. I picked 3 donuts: the Dark Chocolate, Coconut Cream, and Brooklyn Chocolate Crumb (the exact name escapes me). They were all VERY good! I think the Brooklyn donut was my favorite of the 3, but I also thought the Coconut was heavenly too with the cream in the middle. The Dark Chocolate was still really good, just not quite as phenomenal as the other two. Price is a very Grand Central price, but that's its only drawback. Definitely will have to give these another go on a future trip to the city.
google avatar

Maggie B.

Yelp
Through rare, indulgent circumstances I had doughnuts from two different places on the same day. Since I was able to compare the two almost back to back, I have to say Doughnut Plant fell short. The doughnuts were not as fresh, moist, or flavorful as the other place I tried. Also, this location in Grand Central always seems a bit sad. They don't display the doughnuts in a case as they are stored in trays stacked in rolling carts behind the counter. So the stand feels pretty empty and uninviting. Also, the staff were not the friendliest. Good if you are in a pinch and have a sweet craving before your train. But otherwise, wouldn't be my first choice for a treat.
google avatar

Cody C.

Yelp
I've only had the vegan donuts here, so that's all I can speak to--they're tasty enough, not too sweet, and I like the sourdough backend to the taste that gives it a bit of a french toast-esque quality. My only issue with them is how deflated they are--I prefer a rounder doughnut. You won't crave these doughnuts specifically, but they'll do in a pinch if you're near a Doughnut Plant location. As far as the ambiance, it's non-existent here--this is a get a doughnut and go type place, just a small little kiosk in Grand Central Station. I don't really mind that at all because the service is quick. The only thing that's annoying is that the bag they give you for the doughnuts gets really oily really fast. They should know that their doughnuts do that by now, and use better bags.
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
Doughnut Plant donuts are my favorite donuts ever. Since moving to NJ I have missed them so much. So when I was in the vicinity of Grand Central Station I just had to go. So I went and ordered three of my husband and my favorites to bring home. Two Crème Brûlée, two Tres Leche and two Peanut Butter and Jelly. When I got home we ate dinner waited a bit and then I went to get two donuts for dessert. I was surprised and beyond mad that there were only four donuts in the box despite me paying for six. I live an hour or more away so there is no going back to complain. They weren't busy so I'm not sure why this mistake happened. I'll definitely go back eventually but I am really disappointed in the service I got today.
google avatar

Hank C.

Yelp
Big focus here on cake donuts, less so on the deep fried ones. There was a New Year donut for the lunar New Year, crystallized ginger candy on a glazed cake donut. If you like ginger, this was for you. Otherwise, skip. The square peanut butter and blackberry jam donut was fantastic but took a little bit of getting used to for some. The signature creme brulee donut went quick as everyone liked that one. I will have to stop by for the tres leches donut, but I did get to try a black and white which was ok, just like the cookie.
google avatar

Jess L.

Yelp
One of my favorite stops on the way back home if it's still open. (Oh why don't you stay open later?) Doughnut Plant has awesome donuts with great texture. There's always an innovative flavor option. I always go for a seasonal flavor, as well. Pricey but one of the best in the city and certainly one of the best sweet treat options in GC.
google avatar

Marissa L.

Yelp
This is my fifth Doughnut Plant review, so I'm obviously a fan. I love the yeast doughnuts, the cake doughnuts, the vegan sourdoughnuts, the changing seasonal flavors, the Wonder Wheels (ice cream sandwiches), and especially that nothing is made with eggs (family allergy). My favorite flavors are usually the seasonal fruit flavors, but they always have a lot of options, making it easy to find something for everyone. This location is a little different from the others because it's just a kiosk in the food court at Grand Central Terminal, but the doughnuts are the same tasty treats as the other locations. They do have one doughnut that you can only get here though - the mini cake doughnut with gold stars and a color that matches the iconic terminal ceiling - which makes coming here special. I don't usually like braving the crowds at GCT if I don't have to, but the doughnuts are worth it.
google avatar

Pamela P.

Yelp
Don't get lost like me trying to find this place, just look for the track 112 entrance in the lower level food court, it's right in front of it. Now the review: Donuts were good BUT, the size is very very small, not worth the $5 dollars each cost imo. If you are commuting and crave a donut, sure why not. They have vegan options and a wide variety of flavors, but again, size. They call their donuts "cake" so the texture is more similar to a cake, dense and less spongy. It was different than what I expected. I ordered the raspberry and the vegan passion fruit, both tasted good but the passion fruit flavor was not present. It was ok but for the price you can find much better donuts in the city.
google avatar

Angela R.

Yelp
Happy to have been able to purchase a banana cream doughnut it was good. I would have enjoyed it more if the cream were throughout the doughnut. The location was easy to find due to information on the wall. The station has plenty of space to sit elsewhere to eat but not at the area the shop is located, just standing. This is no big deal for me since I wasn't staying in the station. The service was an issue due to cashier language issues (she wasn't clear and seemed to be confused or annoyed by my question). I also don't think it is polite to speak to your coworker in another language in front of customers. It comes across as rude, impolite and disrespectful. I didn't know if they were talking about the lady who just left or me. I do plan to go and try another doughnut just hoping the same cashier is not there. If so magnolia bakery is on the opposite end.

Manmir A.

Yelp
Stopped here during our stop at the Grand Central Station. Doughnut was good. Not overly sugar or oil/butter. Was cooked to perfection. Grab it on the go when visiting the GCT.
google avatar

Yelp
Now wait a frickin' minute! You're telling me Doughnut Plant has a kiosk in Grand Central Station? I'm not a New Yorker, so how the hell would I know? But as Jamie W. and I were whispering in the Whispering Gallery the night before, we did a round-robin of the closed food court. That's when I saw this kiosk and committed ourselves to come back and indulge the following morning before tackling the 6 line. Now I've been to the Doughnut Plant store on the Lower East Side let's just say a 'few' times (ahem), and I will always remember the life-altering taste of the Valrhona Chocolate Yeast Doughnut they made (review: http://bit.ly/2Iw32ux). Sadly they didn't have it here, but they had 27 other flavors on display (photo: https://bit.ly/3MT0Zz5). Jamie tried to restrain himself by getting a regular-size cake donut, the $4.50 Coffee Cake. Isn't he impressive? No way I was going to behave, and I ordered the $5.45 Coconut Cream Filled Square (photo: https://bit.ly/3Dcy5Xt). So ridiculously good you could've knocked me over with a stale cruller from Winchell's. I really don't know what they do to be at the top of the doughnut chain and probably don't want to find out. Like I said before, it's a good thing I'm 2,949 miles away. Gee, have I made my obsession with Doughnut Plant quite clear? DOUGHNUTS - 5 stars...so good I named it...Coco Baby AMBIANCE - 4 stars...it's Grand Central, be careful not to get trampled SERVICE - 4 stars...fast and bagged TOTAL - 5 stars...oh great, now I'm thinking about one...and don't talk to me about Goldbelly! RELATED - Want a doughnut? Here's a collection of places I've tried around the world and reviewed: http://bit.ly/2uuXEPg

Yelp
The Yelp Review got us to Doughnut Plant. Loved the variety of doughnuts. Settled on the coconut cream and crème brûlée. I wish only there was more of the tasty custard filling in the coconut cream.
google avatar

Ravi C.

Yelp
Nondescript place in grand central station. Vegan donuts are amazing. Staff was super nice when discussing allergies and caring toward the food. Next time I am in GC will definitely stop by and visit again.

Rokujo M.

Yelp
Edit: They refunded me the money. Changing to 4 stars. Be careful of the charges! Thanks ---------/ Good day, Temporary review for now, will be revised if I get a refund. It's the first time I bought a bag of espresso and was charged $38.16 for it while on the website the price for the same bag was labeled as $12.00. Will be going to the store to discuss. My BF bought a coconut cream donut which was delicious. But they need to work more on accurate pricing of products. I wouldn't have known if I didn't check the website by myself!
google avatar

Ashok J.

Yelp
Doughnut plant makes the best donuts in NYC. Their flavors, freshness and texture is just spot on. Pricing is premium but you do get spoilt with a perfect donut that has some off beat varieties. We just stepped to the side and devoured them, just couldn't wait.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
I stopped by this kiosk while waiting for a Sunday morning train. I tried two doughnuts - the coconut cream and the cacio e pepe. The coconut cream was kind of a letdown - only lightly flavored with coconut, nothing unique, very little textural contrast (something I usually love about coconut doughnuts). A totally fine cream-filled doughnut, but nothing to write home about. The cacio e pepe, on the other hand, was AMAZING. I've never had a savory doughnut before, but the sourdough flavor and saltiness of the cheese went together really well. So next time you need a quick breakfast on the train, try one of the weird sounding savory doughnuts!

Nanz O.

Yelp
I've passed by the Doughnut Plant a few times upon leaving the Metro North and have been hesitant to try. Today, I decided to stop by and saw the horchata drink available on the menu. Marina assisted with my order. I inquired about the drink and Marina was gracious to give me a small sample to taste before deciding on the purchase. Since it was my first time, the many doughnut options looked all delish and couldn't decide. Marina took the time and was patient taking my order. I ultimately decided on the horchata drink and treated myself to a couple of doughnuts. The customer service provided by Marina was superb! I will definitely return and try the many doughnut options available! Thank you Marina for your patience and recommendations :)

Yelp
Once upon a time, Alice went to all eateries that were featured in Food Network because she was obsessed with the network and dreamed of being one of their stars. Doughnut Plant was featured on "Best Thing I Ever Had" and the spotlight was the PB&J square donut. It was a place that was on my list to go to for the longest time, but I believe it was in Brooklyn only at the time. So, it was forgotten and life went on. One day, I was hungry and decided to check out the food concourse in Grand Central station. However, for someone that does not like peanut butter, I got the second in line show stopper, the Coconut Cream. My oh my...it was delicious! Fast forward to last week, I needed something sweet while I was at the client's office so I went here to get a donut. I really wanted a cronut, but it was too far. I got the tres leches donut and wow. New fave here. I almost cried when there was one bite left. This is definitely one of those moments where you want to be left alone, watching your favorite show and just have this donut. Do not work while having this because it requires your full attention.

Yelp
Terrific the donuts are great, there's always something for someone, such variety it's great. The gentleman behind the counter was refreshingly polite and friendly. I can't wait to go back.
