The shop itself is charming, inside and out. Aromas are wonderful. However, I have tried the breads on several different occasions: ciabatta, sandwich loaf, and pane Siciliano.
First, when I have aske if they could slice the bread(s), the young woman behind the counter has looked at me as if I had sworn at her. A simple "Sorry, We don't have a slicer" would have worked.
The doughs they use are delicious---there is just not enough useable.
Ciabatta: More airholes than a swiss cheese or a worn out sock. When sliced at home, it tears apart so basically unusable. Air I can get for free, I don't have to pay $11.
Sandwich: The top is rough, very hard, and super craggy. So an eighth of the bread has to be cut off so it doesn't cut your mouth.
Pane Siciliano: Their best bet. Again, though, top is rough, burns in the toaster. Needs to be cut off.
As far as their sandwiches---don't waste your money. Two 1" to 1.5" slices of their bread with a wimpy squidge of filling in between.
Its a very hip popular place at the moment, but if it's to stay in business, I imagine some changes will need to be made.
