"The original Dr. Bird’s opened in Buffalo in 1981 (fun fact, Griselda named a song after it) and thankfully this counter-service Caribbean spot put their second location in Wicker Park. The specialty here are Jamaican patties, which are filled with either chicken, beef, or spinach. Those are great (our favorite is the spicy beef) but the menu also has tender jerk chicken and creamy rasta pasta with gruyere, rosemary, and roasted tomatoes. The sides are outstanding too—including must-order coco rice that’s sweet and savory, fluffy coco bread that’s perfect for enfolding your patty, and festivals that are a great complement to the smoky jerk seasoning. Bird’s also has a long list of fresh juices, rum cocktails, and incredibly friendly service. In other words, if you like being in a good mood, head here immediately." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor
"There’s a reason your third-tier friend isn’t a second-tier friend, and that reason might be because they like to talk about downer things like the Blackhawks or the polar bear population. If that’s the case, go to Dr Bird’s. Between great food and contagiously friendly service, this Jamaican counter-service spot always makes us happy. And we’ve never had to wait for a table, either. The specialty here is Jamaican patties, but the menu also has juicy jerk chicken and outstanding sides—including must-order coco rice that’s sweet and savory, fluffy coco bread that’s perfect for enfolding your patty, and festivals that complement the smoky jerk seasoning. Dr. Bird’s also has a long list of fresh juices and rum cocktails, and both are valid antidotes to finding out that polar bears will be extinct by the time you get home." - adrian kane
"According to legend, Buffalo wings originated at the Anchor Bar, a restaurant in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Bird’s, a Jamaican restaurant off the Polish Triangle in Noble Square, opened its first location in Buffalo, but their wings aren’t the traditional type. These juicy morsels of meats are jerk rubbed and smoked with hickory. The taste is subtle and aromatic. The wings come full-sized, making them a two-handed affair." - Ashok Selvam
