The Best Restaurants in Aspen, Colorado | Eater Denver

"Duemani, which translates to “two hands,” has settled comfortably into its role as one of downtown’s most refined reservations to book. The Mediterranean-inspired menu — steeped in the coastal flavors of Italy and France — leans elegant but approachable. Executive chef Jesus Alvarado, an Aspen native with a decade at Matsuhisa under his belt, brings finesse to every plate. The scallop crudo, tuna tartare, and charred octopus salad are favorites, while the whole branzino with puttanesca sauce is a showstopper for the table. For land lovers, there’s no shortage of expertly cooked chops and steaks, and whatever direction you take, the meal is paired with impeccable service." - Katie Shapiro

Duemani - Review - Aspen - The Infatuation

"Owned by the same people as Acquolina, Duemani is another good place to have in your back pocket, and one that can be a tad easier to get into than other spots in town. The menu here leans more Mediterranean, with a seafood focus. Expect crudos, tartares, and several types of grilled fish. photo credit: Nikki Hausherr" - Hillary Reinsberg

The 21 Essential Aspen Restaurants

"Translating to “two hands” in Italian, Duemani offers a refined Mediterranean-inspired menu celebrating flavors from the Italian and French coasts. In 2022, Carlos Solorzano-Smith, a managing partner at Aspen Hospitality Group and longtime local sommelier, appointed Aspen native Jesus Alvarado as executive chef. Alvarado’s winter menu draws on his 10 years of experience at Matsuhisa. Must-order items include the scallop crudo, tuna tartare, grilled octopus salad, and branzino with puttanesca sauce (sizable options “from the land” are also offered)." - Katie Shapiro

This is a very high end, very expensive restaurant. We sat at the bar, with outstanding service. The espresso martini is outstanding, and the food was excellent. Out of 5 restaurants that we tried in Aspen, this was by far the most high-end and refined experience. Highly recommend.

THE GLAMOROUS VISUAL

Google
Nice decor, I was especially amazed by the elegance, the atmosphere, and the screen of the separate room on the lower level. Nice bar and music selection, very considerate personnel and service. The food is appealing and tasty.

We were a party of 5 with two children. The service was impeccable! Our waiter explained how much to order for the table as it is a Family style sharing concept. Our waiter and the staff were all very professional and helpful. The value and quality was top notch! Is a must for larger tables and sharing many different wonderful items.

Google
Duemani quickly became one of our favorite spots in Aspen—so much so that we went FOUR times within the first few weeks of our stay! This Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, with a special focus on seafood, truly knows how to deliver on fresh, balanced, and beautifully executed dishes. Every meal we had was an absolute delight, with each dish highlighting bold yet harmonious flavors that left us wanting more. A few standouts for me were the Seabass Tempura—perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining tender and flaky on the inside. The Roasted Artichokes were another highlight, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. And let’s not forget the garlic toast, paired with a confited bulb of garlic. It was a simple yet brilliant touch that elevated the entire experience. The ambiance at Duemani is another reason we kept coming back. The vibe is laid-back and loungy, ideal for winding down after a busy day in Aspen. The decor features clean lines and ambient lighting that creates a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere, making it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely dinner with friends or loved ones. The team at Duemani clearly puts a lot of care into every dish, and the overall dining experience is one that blends exceptional food with a relaxed and inviting environment. I can't recommend this place enough—whether you're a local or just visiting, Duemani is a must-try for anyone looking for fantastic Mediterranean seafood in a gorgeous setting!

Google
Service was superb and the food was unforgettable. Would give this place 10 stars if possible. The sea bass and lamb chops were delicious and perfectly prepared. The octopus salad was amazing and the octopus was so tender. The shareables of calamari and sea bass were outstanding; the batter for both were light and the accompanying sauces were out of this world. An absolutely must if you’re visiting Aspen! Two years later (February 2025) Duemani continues to impress! Impeccable service and out of this world food. Every dish we ordered was excellent.

Google
Excellent experience all around. The plating was superb, and our favorite dish was the scallops—the unexpected flavor combination was a standout. We also really appreciated the coat check service, especially since not all spots in Aspen offer this when they should. A thoughtful touch that added to the overall experience.

Google
Duemani has such a great Mediterranean vibe. Beautiful space, relaxed atmosphere, and the service was spot on. The tiger prawns and paella were absolutely the stars of the night, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Really enjoyed the whole experience and would definitely recommend it.

Google
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. From quality of food, ambiance, and service are all top notch. Sandy was my waitress and she was just perfect in every way. I didn’t order anything I didn’t like so if you’re coming to Aspen make your reservations quick!

Yelp
What an amazing place. I'm confused at the lower ratings. There were 5 of us and Duemani was perfect. Super welcoming, excellent food, everything! Excellent service! The music was a bit loud to enjoy our conversation, but for the most part, we loved our experience. For some reason, so many restaurants these days have music (which is nice as background music). However, when the music overshadows the conversation at your table, it's too loud. Thank you for the lovely meeting!

Yelp
The design is what is twisting my arm to write about... but there's a lot more. The burrata with honey truffle sauce was devine. I loved the Brussels. Not really the artichokes sadly but that's ok. From rachel, my cousin: The tuna Crudo was delicious as was the lamb and ceaser salad. Veal - excellent. Which was really a schnitzel. The design is impeccable. Kudos to the Aspen architect for the details. The tile, the bar, the black and white Italian photography permanent exhibition. The glassware and flatware. Zanco denkart wine glasses are just from another world. The photos online don't do it justice. Acopa flatware. Just divine. Tiramisu - everyone loved it more than I did. Mango sorbet was lovely. Mina- our server was fantastic. The host also was gracious and welcoming. The bathroom is great. The scent is not overbearing. Hand lotion is perfect since it's so freaking dry in aspen. Only issue - even though it was a Sunday night, and the restaurant was not super full, the music was still too cubby and loud then one would expect from a super fancy place. The price of our dinner was on average 100 bucks per person with an average of one and a half drinks per person. Similar to last night in Matsuhisa famous Japanese. Which is a lot. Perfect ambiance otherwise.

Yelp
Welp, for the prices, you'd think this would one of most amazing meals you've ever tasted with top notch service but it fell short. We tasted a good amount of the menu and while some things were tastier than others, nothing wowed me. What we ordered: Fritto Misto (1/5) the shrimp were dry and chewy Crab Tostadas (4/5) generous amount of crab, the sauce under the tostada crisps was flavorful Tuna tacos (5/5) this was my favorite item of the night, very small portion but tasty Half chicken (2/5) moist but very under seasoned and basic overall Crème brûlée (1/5) the worst one I've ever had, we did not finish it The overall service was basic, nothing over the top. I don't forsee myself running back to dine here again soon.

Yelp
We got a reservation for Duemani at 8:30 on a Tuesday night. The service was top notch. We were the only group dining in at this time. They mostly played upbeat edm music. The food was excellent. We shared several dishes. The tacos, which were on special, were excellent and good value relative to the rest of the menu. The tuna tartare was a standout dish that everyone enjoyed.

Yelp
Did someone say foodie adventure gone askew? Picture this: anticipation high for the famed veal chop and those crispy, truffle-perfumed fries, only to be met with a chilly welcome. Despite the less-than-warm service and a waiting game that felt longer than a Netflix binge, the culinary creations did not falter. Each dish, from the succulent veal to the perfectly balanced truffle fries, danced on the palate, scoring a 9/10 on the taste test. Yet, the service left us longing for more, much like a forgotten second martini. We had so much hope and our friends that brought us here were very disappointed. Even the manager didn't seem to notice any of the issues with our table. Only giving a 3 stars due to service.

Yelp
Terrible experience, took over hour for food to come ordered the sea bass , it came and was 3 oz of fish on plate for $68.00 ( I don't mind paying aspen prices I live here , but you have give more than 3 0z of food!) the manager was so rude he insisted that it was 7 ounces. And brought out a food scale to prove him self but was embarrassed when it showed that it was 3 ounces. I've never seen a manager run into The kitchen a get a scale ! He said that fish shrinks when cooked .. but instead of apologizing or attempting to bring out additional fish, he took the food away and was angry. Then the owner came out and was full of greasy street cloths and was also rude. He said if you complain about the food don't come back.. the most unprofessional management run restaurant I've ever seen. They also bought other previously existing Restaurants and Aspen, Aqualina and De Angelos ... I would not recommend any of these restaurants, there are plenty of other professional, wonderful restaurants In Aspen to enjoy
google avatar

Mahtab R.

Yelp
Extremely rude and unprofessional. We had a reservation and they didn't let us in. The manger did not even try to fix his mistake. Very disappointed.

L K.

Yelp
Even though the food is delicious, the music is too loud and I would never go back because of it. A shame

Yelp
Let's factor out the small fortune Aspen mandates you pay and focus on the atmosphere, service, and of course, taste. Walking into the pleasantly warm restaurant, I was happy to see the original but sophisticated ambiance. I especially loved the large window facing the pedestrian avenue. The tables were large, and the seats were comfortable. Plates, silverware, and glassware were sparkling clean. The service, unfortunately, could have been a little better. I am only knit-picking, but with the hefty price tag, I expect it to be on par with my experience. Some of the waitpeople seemed untrained in basic serviceable mannerisms. Other than that, everybody was pleasantly friendly and attentive. Now to the good part...the FOOD! We started our meal with a couple of appetizers, the lobster and the oysters. Both tasted exquisite, and I thoroughly enjoyed the "special hot sauce" paired with our meal. The wine selection was limited, but the personnel knew the best pairings for our meals. As for main dishes, my favorite was the lamb chops, and I would not reorder the blue prawns. Overall, an Aspen classic, and I will be happy to come back!

Yelp
Delicious new spot in town. We ordered the burrata, tuna and yellowtail crudos to start. The tuna was delicious but the yellowtail just tasted like it was drowning in teriyaki sauce. We ordered the New York strip steak and the whole Branzino. Both were wonderfully delicious. My only critique would be that their menu is almost randomly expansive. There are so many different types of options and no real direction around how to order from such an array of items. I thought this place was Italian but they had edamame?!

Marcy B.

Yelp
This place was absolutely incredible from start to finish! The food superseded our expectations for sure! We sat at the bar and enjoyed several of the bar specials and cocktails. I love this place so much I would definitely come back. Not sure why the reviews are so bad on Yelp, this was one of our favorite restaurants we have been to!

Lee S.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful restaurant. The food was good but the menu was a tad limited for me. Service was amazing. Will 100% be returning for a drink at the bar.

Marjan S.

Yelp
I rarely leave bad reviews on Yelp but I would give zero stars to this restaurant! Extremely disappointed with their poor service and unprofessional staff. From the moment we arrived the attitude of the staff was unwelcoming and very rude. Avoid by all means!! There are plenty of other great restaurants in the area, don't waste your money and time here

ramin h.

Yelp
We had a very bad experience with this resturant. We had a reservation at 9 pm and changed it to 6 pm but they did not give us the table when we showed up at and the manager told us that you are lying that you called. He was extremely rude and unprofessional.
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
Loooooved the Chilean Sea Bass, the flavors were amazing. The salmon, the ceviche were also excellent! Everyone was very attentive and so nice. We will definitely visit again. A new favorite!
google avatar

Felix P.

Yelp
Amazing bartenders! The food is excellent! Highly recommend the cocktails, their liquor selection may be one of the best in Aspen. The appetizers are extremely creative and all good!! We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
We had an great meal at Duemani. With all the amazing choices in Aspen it's hard to pick. We wanted light and fresh seafood. This place delivered on both. We started with the grilled octopus, tuna sashimi, and crab tostadas. All were perfectly prepared and great portions. For dinner we shared the grilled prawns and the Brussel sprouts. We were suppose to get 6 prawns and only 5 were on the plate. The brussles were fair at best. Good spot. Service was quick.
google avatar

Shelly T.

Yelp
We are early around six and I was worried because the place was pretty dead but it started filling up and was full by 7. We stuck to appetizers to share instead of ordering mains so that we could try a few different things. The oysters were good but they came dressed and without cocktail sauce. I didn't love that. Then we moved on to the lamb kefta. It was fabulous. We ended up ordering another later on. We tried the mussels and clams next. The broth was good but they tasted a little funky. Not my favorite. Then we had the crab tostadas and another kefta. They were very good. After that we were full. Overall good food but a few things were a miss for us. I would try it again. The service was wonderful.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Cannot say enough of one of my favorite spots in Aspen! Such a gem! Incredibly gracious owners and staff! One of the most serious wine lists in town- trust. Killer cocktails. Some of the best Crudo I've had, but ALL is wildly delicious. If in Aspen, highly recommend!

Texas C.

Yelp
So this is not Italian it is Greek/Mediterranean. So the flavors and presentation are not what you expect if you thought Italian. The online menu is not the current menu. The hosting staff were not hospitable and the server was less than accommodating. The outside seating was very pleasant and enjoyable. I am a regular to Aspen and I will not be back sadly because I love to give local recommendations.
google avatar

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Occupying the old Rustique French bistro space new this season is Italian restaurant Duemani. The space itself has been thoroughly revamped. Food is above average, cocktail list could use some further work as the bar is very well stocked. Service had some minor glitches - a request for bread waited until after the starter had been served and then it was one, albeit warm piece of baguette between four patrons.- without butter - it Was a comic moment.

Gabe W.

Yelp
First time to Aspen in 20 years. Don't leave without a special dinner at Duemani. Darko has been here since day 1 in Dec of 2019 and does a wonderful job. My wife and I have 4 teenage kids and they all loved the food as well. NY Strip, Veal, Sea Bass, Half a Chicken, Brussel sprouts, truffle fries, garlic bread, we loved it all. We'll be back. Nice ambiance.

Jill D.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Aspen! Pretty inside and out! Dog friendly in their beautiful outside area!
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
This place is overpriced, like most Aspen restaurants!!! The prices were comical for what it was. Nothing blew my mind and we left spending about $250 for two ppl. What a joke!
google avatar

Kyren L.

Yelp
Amazing service. Incredible music. Great food. Service was excellent. Try to reserve a Yurt in advance.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
This restaurant is phenomenal. Chef Jason Franey runs a tight ship. His kitchen and his cooking are on another level. When you go to Aspen you must go to Duemani! They also have a superb wine list and cocktails. Enjoy!
google avatar

Nick M.

Yelp
I had mixed feelings about this place. Food is very basic. The fritto misto was rather doughey and seemed like something from a fast food place. The fish was fresh but portion was rather small and didn't come with anything. Some of the sides were good but overall nothing special.
google avatar

Adam P.

Yelp
New trendy place in down town Aspen. Service was outstanding beginning to the end. Large menu with great seafood and steak options. Unbelievable bourbon selection!
google avatar

Edward J.

Yelp
Booked this amazing restaurant for my birthday this past weekend. I'm not sure how I got lucky to book this place last minute cause it was sold out for weeks. The food is incredible. Our party wanted to order everything off the menu cause everything sounded amazing. And what we ordered was outstanding. Service was impeccable and attentive to our needs. Staff was super friendly and gracious. But the food, omg how amazing and delicious. When I'll be in Aspen again, I'm definitely coming back. A word of advice though, the place is pricey so be ready for the bill. That was the most painful part, lol.

G A.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant in the heart of Aspen. Though the restaurant was full, our server was always extremely attentive. The cocktail menu was varied and interesting. We also ordered an outstanding white burgundy from the extensive wine list. We ordered a delicious appetizer of caviar on tater tots with crème fraiche. Very unique. We also ordered all 3 of the tartares--tomato, salmon and tuna. All different and all delicious. Our entrees included a Dover sole & the bone in NY strip. Both were perfectly prepared. We visit Aspen often and have now placed Duemani firmly in our dining rotation.
google avatar

Diane U.

Yelp
We ate at Duemani for the first time last weekend. Everything was amazing! My lamb chops were some of the best I've ever had. When accompanied with the carrot side dish, it was a perfect meal. My espresso martini hit the spot as well. We definitely will be returning.
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
Probably our new favorite restaurant in Aspen. Great menu. Beautiful ingredients and lovely presentation. Nice beer and wine list, craft cocktails and in the heart of downtown Aspen. A must do. And well done.
google avatar

Betty K.

Yelp
Our first time in Aspen- so we can give an impartial review. Delicious food. Excellent ambiance. Friendly and attentive waitstaff who were also professional and masked (we appreciated this very much). The spacing between tables was also wonderful. Highlights were the east coast oysters, garlic bread, grilled octopus, cioppino, and steak! Great wine selection too! We'll be back during our stay for the seafood tower. Great quality food and service!- absolutely on par with Aspen's reputation.
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
Extremely expensive and just "okay" food. Nothing special, and definitely not worth the $250+. There are better value restaurants in the area!!

Tom S.

Yelp
Good terrible food poisoning after. Lasted a full week. Vomited nonstop. I saw a cockroach in the bathroom as well.

Barb S.

Yelp
People very friendly, high priced but good cuisine and quiet atmosphere. However i ordered a martini and upon receiving our check we noticed a $3.00 UP charge. This was a charge for the martini glass UP! The martini was $16 + 3.00. It's a shame after ordering a $75.O0 Branzino fish etc, that a small $3.00 charge lost them a neighborhood customer....plus I had to tell our friends to see if there was something we missed. Tonight we ate at Steak House 316 and we asked the bartender the question. They never heard of such a thing. Neither had we nor anyone else. Sad.

vinoth k.

Yelp
We went during the Memorial Day weekend! The vibe is good and people were nice! We were party of 5 people and ordered 6 items. All we ate are not as delicious for the money we paid. The Clam Chowder soup was ok but hardly it didn't have any clams, just 3 to 4 which seems mistakenly fell into bowl. I really had something better for 70% lesser $.The items are so unreasonably pricy for sure.
google avatar

Roland H.

Yelp
Such amazing, fresh seafood. Service was attentive, professional and friendly. Great wine program and a nice recommendation from sommelier Carlos. Will be back!
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
Excellent meal - would highly recommend the crab tostadas and any fish you order will be cooked perfectly. The wine list is extensive. Fun vibe and most importantly the service was excellent- special nod to the bartenders who took care of us despite it being super busy with drinks being made at a brisk pace. Terrific addition to our Aspen go-to list.

Ellie d.

Yelp
This restaurant recently switched ownership (or something along those lines) since then I feel like quality and service has gone down and the prices have gone up....

Aida D.

Yelp
The atmosphere was pleasant. I ordered the Red Snapper. In my experience, everytime I've ordered Snapper, I've gotten the WHOLE FISH. So imagine my disappointment when all I received was a 5 ounce filet for $50+! My husband ordered the "Colorado Rack of Lamb", the size portion listed was 16 ounces. He only received 3 lollipops, at best was only approximately 6 ounces!! He also complained that the mash potatoes tasted watered down. Beware this is an A La Cart restaurant and in my opinion they practice False Advertisement, the mark up is ridiculous!!! We only came here because we didn't place reservations at the Steak House we wanted to go to.
google avatar

Darby P.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try out Duemani since they opened over the winter. I was blown away by everything! The food was so good. You could tell that Luigi and Gretchen (the owners) bring in quality ingredients from coast to coast. I loved the crab tostadas and the mussels. I didn't even try the entrees because the appetizers were so fun and tasty! GET THE BRUSSELS SPROUTS! Nick is a great bartender and Georgiana was our server...loved her as well! Cocktail list is on point. I loved it so much that I have a reservation for tonight, can't wait!
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
There were four of us and each and every one of us enjoyed the food and service. Somewhat pricey, but within Aspen standards, but with the quality of the food worth it. You will definitely see us again.
google avatar

Shelley Z.

Yelp
This place had a cool vibe and the service was great. However considering the menu prices, I was hoping for something exceptional, and was disappointed to find the food pretty average.

Sarah A.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Aspen. The food is really good and the staff is very warm and welcoming. The wine list is out of this world. Highly recommend, will be back
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Wow... really not great. The best thing was the tequila cocktail with ginger & carrot. Pasta was blah, octopus was really oily, the service was OK, the salads were over dressed and the place is cramped. Small portions that cost more than large portions. The oysters were fresh and mussels were solid. I wish they removed the bad glass of wine and the $18 fries + $75 black truffle topper was a kick in the ass out the door. I'd give it 2 stars, but the bill was next level - even by Aspen standards - we got ASPENED!
google avatar

Chaya C.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! We had to carry out our food which is never ideal and yet everything was still wonderful! We ordered the burrata (truffle oil and honey combo was amazing) shrimp cocktail (we asked for horse radish and it was so fresh and spicy!) the bone in ribeye (my fiancé said it was really really good) the halibut (yum!) mashed potatoes (SO good) and broccolini (which was typical) and the lemon olive oil cake (very good). I wish we could've dined in, but next trip to aspen we will!!!
google avatar

Ricardo R.

Yelp
The best Italian restaurant and the best steak house in Aspen better than steak house
google avatar

Keith P.

Yelp
I fully agree with the two star reviews that this restaurant has received. While the ambiance is nice, the price for the food is so absurd that it's hard not to laugh when your bill shows $75 for truffle fries. Since it clearly won't be here next season your not missing much if you take this one off your list.
