We ordered two savory pastries on a Saturday morning around 8 am and they were not good. They did not seem fresh at all and we decided to throw them away. We were here 3 years ago and had a wonderful experience. Not sure if it was different staff or an overall decline.

Google
I came here this morning and ordered a danish and a ham and cheese croissant, both of which were cold. I asked the cashier if he could warm it up and he placed the plastic to go container in the microwave…..it was only for a few seconds but our pastries were not hot AND now they were infused with microplastics. In addition, our maple latte did NOT have any maple in it, and wasn’t told to us. We only knew because we overheard the two boys working there that they couldn’t find the maple. They did not inform us at all, and still charged us for the specialty latte. We came to visit from Minneapolis and this was overall a terrible experience. My partner didn’t feel comfortable eating pastries that had been warmed in a plastic container in the MICROWAVE.

There is line usually at the window but it is outside which is nice during these covid times.  Prices would say on par with other bakery's , maybe a smidge higher. Lots of macaroons choices , I bought some bread, croissant cinnamon buns and scones. The croissant was excellent and the bread smells amazing. They had a separate line for pre orders which I will do next time as faster and can just grab and go. Update 5/7/22. Went before they closed on sat and they were out of most things as go early to get the things you want. We got the macrons, pecan caramel roll, cinnamon roll, cranberry wild rice bread. My favorite was the wild rice bread and pecan caramel roll.

I am visiting Duluth for the first time and I am so happy some friends recommended this place! Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was chill and inviting. It was a beautiful day and they had the front area fully open which was wonderful.

Google
Delicious bakery (a tiny hole in the wall) in the heart of Lincoln Park. The bread is baked perfectly and priced right but the prices are a bit high for the pastries and croissants. However once you bite into the divine tasting almond croissant, you forget all about the $4 price tag. Sweet, nutty, buttery, with a crunch--amazing. Several restaurants around town serve their cinnamon rolls and they also have a kiosk in the mall around the holidays.

Google
I couldn't wait until I took the pic! Chocolate Almond Croissant is amazing. Macarons are fresh & so flavorful. Staff are helpful & friendly! First visit & I will be back.

Google
Great location on the edge of Lincoln Park. Park out front, walk up to the window and be prepared to be overwhelmed with wonderful bread smells. This is the Best Bread in Duluth, literally! Many types to choose from, Cranberry Wild Rice is my favorite, my wife loves the sunflower seed mix. Great price, super service and they will slice the bread if you want it. Hmm fresh bread, newly sliced, yup smells don't lie its The Best Bread in Duluth. Available also at St Luke's Cafeteria, Whole Foods Coop, and their Bakery off 27th West. Enjoy, oh did I mention the Pecan Carmel Rolls, croissant of all types and well you will just have to go to find the other goodies!

Google
Love it! Had an almond crossiant and bought a loaf of cheese curd bread. The crossiant was perfect and the bread was delicious. Toasted and also made grilled cheese and egg sandwiches with it. Will definitely be back next time I am in town.

Yelp
Quick line, lots of baked goods. The best stuff sells out fast so get there early. Central AC in summer which was really nice in the heatwave while we visited. No gluten free stuff for specialty diets but they focus on good clean baking style with no chemicals, filler, or junk. My Daughter and mom loved this place! We've been back 3x to their delight

Yelp
My husband and I stopped Sunday at the Superior location. We purchased a chocolate croissant and a chocolate scone. Upon arriving home and excited to try them we were disappointed. The scone was raisin, not chocolate and very stale. It went in the garbage. We move on to the croissant, which at best had a tablespoons worth of chocolate. The one star is for friendly service and flaky croissant dough. We will not be returning. A waste of a trip and worse a waste of money.

Yelp
We tried the Superior location again after seeing multiple social media postings about needing more customers... I ordered their Superior latte again but the balance of flavors were unfortunately not there. I would recommend adding half a tablespoon to a tablespoon more of the syrup. The oat milk was slightly bitter. The flavor of the macarons was good, I love a quirky flavor pairing! My only complaint was the size difference. The coloring was beautiful and perfect for fall.

Yelp
Fantastic in so many ways ~ I love their food !!! Selection may be limited after 11am ... so that's can be a tough break The downside: Seedy area on Main Street with lots of homeless / druggy / questionable characters lurking about. So watch for theft and possibly being hassled. I appreciate their little open air counter to the street ... but "watch your stuff" ... I didn't watch carefully enough? and had a $1,000 motorcycle helmet stole from the seat next to me in (late August 2023). No security cameras apparently per the owner. Food - FANTASTIC !!!

Yelp
Stopped at the one on 27th Ave west for pain au chocolate. Bought three of them and one almond croissant. Unfortunately, two of the chocolate ones tasted like they were at least days old. I have never had that happen before. This was very disappointing because it's not like you're going to drive back there to exchange, complain, replace. Also, tried to go on their website to make a command that is not even an option. Seriously, you have a business and no where to make comments? That's not good business practice.

Yelp
Oh ok, WOW!!! There are *all* Sourdoughs here & all the sourdoughs are truly, actually, not hyperbolically, the BEST! Oh the sourdough almond croissant is scrumptious & we ate it too fast to take a photo. Into the Cranberry-Wild Rice loaf we took home & I took a photo before it's gone. Isn't it a beauty? Their original loaf is fantastic & we've now had their Onion-Rosemary Loaf twice & it was also a huge hit. They are batting 1000 on bread (not the coffee). The coffee is not too bad but coffee is not their forte, breads are. To note: their same day fresh sourdough (cold fermented & cold rise, even) bread can stay fresh on the counter for two & a half days & be delicious (toasted or baked)! I've never had bread remain this truly fresh for so long off a bakery shelf, same day or not. They only sell their products in Duluth & Cloquet & I wish they could remain this good & distribute around the world but that is not how best bread works because smaller batches have the reputation of being tastier, after-all, & this proves that reputation to stand, again. If you would like well balanced in flavor, quintessential, fresh, sourdough bread, come here! Totally noteworthy & totally worth it.

Yelp
We showed up a little late around 12-1 and they were already out of most items. But we bought a 1lb loaf of the cheese curd bread and it is absolutely delicious!

Yelp
Duluth has some great baked goods, but DBB earns it's name as Duluth's Best Bread. Their pastries are on par with ones that I've had in Europe: flaky, buttery, and perfectly proofed. You can tell they're using great ingredients. The permanent menu is always winning, and the seasonal offerings haven't disappointed me yet. I just tried the pumpkin croissant instead of my usual chocolate and had no regrets, it was amazing! Everyone is always so nice, and even when there's a line, it tends to move pretty quickly. I also love the atmosphere they've built, especially in the summer when they're able to open the garage doors. Even in the winter, though, it's a perfect cozy spot for breakfast and coffee. I literally cannot recommend them enough, I always say it's a must stop when visiting Duluth.

Yelp
It really is the best bread. And cinnamon rolls, and pastries, and croissants, and any thing you can get from here. Yum, so very flaky and delicious. I was in Paris a few months ago and I honestly did not have a better croissant there. I loved Duluth's Best Bread's more. And that's just the food. The owners are even better! We had a last minute loss of a brunch location the day after my daughter's wedding. We had two days of back and forth, not knowing where we could go. I shared this with one of the amazing people at Duluth's Best Bread and they offered to let me use some of their public space. The kindness was so amazing! Quite literally moments after the ceremony on Saturday I was being reassured that they would be there for us and help us out. They were so wonderful and helpful! What generous humans! The wedding venue, Brule River Barn, was an hour away and they generously offered to let us stay a little later so we didn't take Duluth's Best Bread up on their wonderful offer but knowing they jumped to help us at the last minute, it makes me happy to know there are businesses and people still kind and generous in this world!

Yelp
This place truly is what the name says, it really is Duluth's best bread. We tried the almond, Nutella and ham and cheese croissant. We also tried the Duluth ice latte, and it was fantastic. The ham and cheese croissant was my favorite. It's usually busier but the service is fast and there is plenty of street food parking outside.

Yelp
Super friendly service and amazing sourdough! We got a loaf of every flavor! The cheese curd bread was the favorite

Yelp
I wanted to pick up something easy to eat for the drive up the scenic North Shore. I didn't know what to expect when pulling up to Duluth's Best Bread but had read good things. They had a walkup window so we were able to bring our dog up instead of leaving her in the car. They had a great selection of items on their menu so it was hard to choose. I decided to try a peach poptart, my wife chose a chocolate almond croissant, and we split four different macarons. They also offered us a homemade dog treat for the pup which was a nice touch. The items we got were delicious. I think the croissant & poptart would've tasted even better warmed up! I'd love to try their bread which evidently sells out quickly. Maybe next time I'm in town I'll grab one for the road.

Yelp
Sunflower flax bread was okay. It had some unmixed glossy yeast in the center. It was extremely hard. Ham and cheese croissant was the best ever as well as the almond croissant. We are saving the big pretzel as it came frozen. The cranberry wild rice bread is our favorite; we purchase at the Coop. We waited about 10 minutes to purchase our items. The menu board displays availability. The checkout system is less than efficient. You order and they run around the place getting each item. Nothing is handy. They were also in our face regarding a tip. It was uncomfortable. Next time we will pay with cash.

Yelp
All bakery was delicious. The pastries were well made and melt in your mouth. My daughter brought a huge box to me for Mother's Day. They were just as delicious and day 2 and 3.

Yelp
This summer I helped pilot a new French crepe truck for my innovative friend, and talented chef, Linda Nervick. The crepe truck is located behind the Duluth Depot train museum and serves locals, tourists and train passengers. The crepes were a smash hit and we worked at break neck speeds to delight our guests when lines formed at our humble window. Along with creating sweet and savory crepes for our patrons, we sold French style macrons, big fat German pretzels, Jambons (ham & cheese croissants), and butter croissants from the new bakery located just down the street in Duluth's Historic Arts & Entertainment District fondly called "HART." Linda, who own the crepe truck concept, got her courage and inspiration from collaboration with Duluth's Best Bread. Both venues start with pure, unbridled passion for their creations. Their missions are to create unique food culture. I spent the summer at Linda's crepe griddle / front counter -- and fell in love with making our customers smile. Linda and I, both from sales and marketing backgrounds, joked about how "UN" glamorous the food truck business is!! Yet, we had the time of our lives serving our growing base of crepe and Duluth's Best Bread lovers. After the crepe truck shut down for the summer, I found myself at the front counters of the Lincoln Park and HART District Duluth's Best Bread. Both of these businesses care about the experience they create for every customer that lines up at their counter!!! I now proudly work at the Bread Store because everyone from the owners, to the bakers, to my front of house peers, to our customers just love the amazing products. I'm giving thanks this Thanksgiving day for my dear friend Linda Nervick who helped me find pure joy offering great crepes, breads, pastries to our growing Duluth fan base! The joy of serving people amazing crepes, breads, pastries is one of the things I am grateful for. Making and sharing great food creates a happy, joyful community. Way to go Linda Nervick of Crepes Amour! Way to go Robert and Michael Lillegard of Duluth's Best Bread.

Yelp
I sort of happened onto this place. I drove by it. However, before going to Duluth's Best Bread in the morning, I asked a local about it. This person said that 'it's really good but they don't have their act as together as they should because they might have run out of some things.' That's because their baked goods are so popular. That's what I experienced at Duluth's Best Bread somewhere in the late morning, or I would gladly have given them 5 stars. Their baked goods are incredibly tasty, the prices are fair, and the employee at the counter was very nice - not "Minnesota nice," but genuinely nice. Let me get to the baked goods. I wanted the rosemary loaf but they had just run out and I got the more basic country loaf, which they had. I was concerned that it would be a wheat type bread with nuts and seeds that granolaheads would tend to consume. It wasn't. The woman at the window explained that their breads are sourdough themed. That was good to hear, and true to form for Duluth which, completely unlike the Twin Cities, has precipitous San Francisco-like streets descending from its steep hillsides to the lake. I also wanted a chocolate and almond croissant. They had run out of those, too, so I got an almond croissant. Nonetheless, it was outstanding. There was a line. The locals know a good thing. People in line were friendly and, with some visitors in the batch, the locals were helping with what to order from the window and what to see while in the area. That was cool. I had to laugh at their self regarding name, which instantly reminded me of Seattle's Best Coffee. That Seattle's Best Coffee is Seattle's best coffee is debatable. However, Duluth's Best Bread is most likely Duluth's best bread and, for that matter, they have some of the best baked goods I've tasted anywhere.

Yelp
3rd Ave location in Lincoln Park. Best cream cheese danish I've ever had! Best croissant! Great, funny, warm and inviting staff. We will definitely return!

Yelp
Truly amazing breads & treats & coffee & locations! I highly recommend to stop here every day that they're open! ‍

Jamie A.

Yelp
Duluths Best Bread is hands-down the best bread in the city. And Ann at the Hart location is amazing - even though it wasn't on the menu, she cut me a slice of bread and toasted it and it convinced me to buy the whole loaf. Highly encourage toast options on the menu from now on!

Morgan N.

Yelp
Wonderful service, lots of samples. Great experience for first timers to Duluth's best bread.

Claude P.

Yelp
Stopped by this bakery while passing through Duluth. WOW! Amazing. I've tried different breads on three continents -- this is the best. No question. It is my considered belief that this bread should be shipped into psych wards and given to patients with untreatable depression. No one could possibly eat a slice, lightly toasted with real butter, and still believe that they have nothing to look forward to in life.

Elyza E.

Yelp
The bread is amazing they gave us samples while we waited in line. She seemed more focused about accommodating the people in the line rather then finishing up our order which was a little confusing to me. But the baked goods were amazing!

Liz E.

Yelp
We reserved a loaf of cardamom bread for pickup on Christmas Eve. This was to replace the cardamom loaf traditionally made every year by our Swedish grandmother, who is turning 87 on Christmas Eve and is not up to making it herself. When we arrived to pick it up, we were told it had been sold. I'm sure the bread is wonderful but please be clear with customers about what is required to reserve a loaf in advance. If we had known our order could not be fulfilled, we would have gone elsewhere. By the time we learned there was no bread available, it was too late and we are without a staple of our Christmas Eve tradition and a birthday gift to our grandmother.

Yelp
amazing!!! best flavor i've had in years. i've been wanting to try this but lace for awhile, and it did not disappoint!!!

Yelp
We made the trip north to Duluth to spend the day fishing and to check out some of the best that Duluth has to offer. Duluth's Best Bread is definitely on that list. Prior to our trip I was doing my Yelpsearch. We had to stop at Duluth's Best Bread. Initially our plan was to pick up some bread and pop tarts. As it turns out we were able to secure some bread before our trip and didn't look at any bread here. Which looking back was a minor mistake because we can always use another loaf of bread around our house. A mistake we certainly won't repeat next time we are in town. Anyhow we found a parking spot right in front and went inside. When you walk in you feel like you are standing in their kitchen. Its open and you can see the baked goods. Knowing we were going to be making several stops this day we selected a couple of their homemade pop tarts and then an almond croissant. The pop tart will make you wonder why you would ever eat pop tarts from a box. Flaky with fresh fruit filling. Very good! The shocker to us was how amazing their almond croissant was. This was truly amazing. It is like no other croissant that we have ever had and we don't even want to try any other croissants after eating this one. Lightly crispy on the outside yet lite and fluffy and buttery on the inside. This was so good, we wanted to come back here again before we left town. Reading some of the reviews, sounds like their pain au chocolat is also getting rave reviews. We made note of this place and consider this a must stop next time we are in town. Really that croissant is a life changer!
google avatar

Markie M.

Yelp
I would highly recommend stopping by Duluth's Best Breads to pick up some top-notch baked goods on your way through or while visiting Duluth. Got here about 9:00, loaded up with a caramel roll, pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant), and 2 pop-tarts: wild berry and strawberry. Then we went back to our hotel, where we entered the insanely busy breakfast room only to grab coffee and juice to enjoy w our baked goodies in the comfort of our room. So worth it! Duluth's Best Bread is a good name for this business even if we didn't actually try any of their loaves. The caramel roll was super fresh and delicious. The pain au chocolate was soft and buttery but could have used a touch more chocolate inside. The pop-tarts were a nostalgic frosted joy: soft and decadent with delightful fruity jellies inside.

Yelp
This bakery is a little away from the downtown area, but I wanted to stop by thinking it might be one of this hidden gem type places. We ordered: Caramel pecan roll: dense and pretty sweet. Not enough nuts. Probably will taste better warmed up. Supposedly got some praise from the local paper. 2.5/5 Pop tart: Made with a flakey crust and was decent. 3/5 Ham and cheese croissant: $4.50. The ones from the store by my house taste leagues better for $3. The ham was salty, and having eaten half, I still haven't found the cheese. It was nice to check this place out, but I felt things were a bit pricey for what only ended up being ok tasting food. Note: They ask that you stand 6 ft away from the counter. Your order is prepared and left on the window counter. Good covid Policy. Shows that they care about their employees.

Yelp
Delicious bread and baked goods. The staff was very welcoming and space is clean and smelled amazing!

Yelp
Visited 30 minutes before closing on Valentine's Day and the selection was low, which was a very good sign, but not for me . I really wanted pain au chocolat but they were out so it's on my list for next time. This time, I was able to get a couple croissants, a couple almond croissants, macarons, and Oreo sandwich cookies. All items are so good! Can't wait to go back!

Meg T.

Yelp
For being the "best bread," it wasn't as good as we were anticipating. Pretty comparable to a grocery store bakery. We won't be going back.
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
Amazing big delicious croissants! Chocolate, almond and ham and cheese croissants, danish, cinnamon rolls, and fresh cranberry wild rice bread. Too bad they are only open 3 days but you can find their stuff at the farmers market and Amity coffee too!
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect walking in as it was a little shop on the corner. The smell walking in was like going into grandma's kitchen in a baking day. There weren't a million options to choose from but everything looked incredible. I went for a cinnamon roll and it was the right choice. I ate it before I could take a picture it was so good. They have a coffee craft at the check out for $1 a cup. VERY friendly staff. Worth the stop.

A T.

Yelp
If you have read any of my other reviews you may notice I am fan of croissants. This place does not disappoint in the butter regard. A fullness of flavor and appropriate texture are the marks of a work well done. Their chocolate almond variety is a four star. A little more dense with the filings being two slabs side by side vs. Being intermixed. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the way it is done elsewhere but it could better. Be aware, there is no place to eat here. It is take out only. Not a problem though since they do the important parts so well. I will return here mostly for their butter croissants. Or I may find who serves their products so I may be seated to enjoy them. Very nice place and worth the trip from nearly anywhere.

Yelp
Tried and loved everything. Croissant, chocolate croissant, caramel and cinnamon rolls!! Delish!!

Yelp
So good! Love everything here, especially the delicious macarons. Pain au chocolat is most def my favorite. The 2 owners are hilarious and awesome, all the staff is super friendly. Love supporting local!

Yelp
Great people and excellent bread! My family eats the croissants for a treat every Saturday.
google avatar

Yelp
I've sampled pain au chocolat across the country and in France and Quebec. This is one of the best ever. Multilayer flakiness, heavy butter and salt presence, with two ribbons of smoky, bittersweet dark chocolate. It's borderline savory, very rich and satisfying. And just a few blocks down the hill from where I grew up. This bakery is terrific. Other pastries and breads also very strong.
google avatar

Lois H.

Yelp
We are back home in NC, and my husband and I just demolished a pound sour dough loaf that we picked up Saturday morning. Thank goodness we picked up TWO loaves. Add olive oil, homemade hummus, homemade pimento cheese, nom, nom, nom. Duluth we love you. By the way, the young lady working Saturday morning was super friendly, as were so many people we met in Minnesota.
google avatar

Kari B.

Yelp
Everything they bake is delicious! The bread is fresh and baked with only 4 ingredients. The croissants are eaten up by my boys before I can even set them on the counter. The cinnamon rolls and poptarts were also mouthwatering. The only downside is the limited store hours, 9-1 on Thursdays. Pre-ordering ensures you get some of their delicious goodies, otherwise they may very well be sold out by the time you get there! Highly recommend!
