LA’s 12 Most Deliciously Underrated Restaurants | Eater LA

"Phorage chef Perry Cheung’s dug in his heels at Dumpling Monster, where he makes handmade xiao long bao and pan-fried pork dumplings from a West Hollywood kitchen. The entire menu is festive and delicious, but order the pork and Dungeness crab soup dumplings right away." - Eater Staff

These dumplings are stale. Like not in a gummy chewy way they’re hard and bland. The shrimp inside is flavorless. I wanted to get a refund since the service was so slow but the guy upfront needed a manager to provide a simple refund. No manager in sight and my order was ready by that time. What the heck man super overpriced for what you get I was hungry so I forced myself to eat since I paid for already. Really poor service as well man dang I wanted to like this place.

Had the vegan dumplings today. They tasted over cooked and a bit like they were frozen but then defrosted. Nothing felt fresh. If you want to eat at the mall I would choose something else , don’t waste your money here.

36$ worth of dumplings and theyre worse than trader joes. Im not a dumpling snob. “Mid” dumplings are actually pretty good. These are not mid. Theyre salty and the skins are kinda stale. Id still enjoy eating these if they came from a grocery store but for 15$ a plate (more expensive than din tai fung) its not ok.

After reading the other reviews we were curious to see how it was. 7 pan fried chicken dumplings for 14 dollars including tax (no beverage). The meat itself was fine and the wrapper was okay. Honest 6/10, slightly above average. Not bad as reviews say 😏

Ordered: Pork and Shrimp Pan Fried Dumplings Price: $14 +tax Ordered on the kiosk menu, and there was only three options for dumplings: pork, chicken, and pork with shrimp. There were two versions you can have, steamed or pan seared. The dumplings were not that crunchy even though it was pan seared. The filling itself was not that unique. The soy sauce based dipping sauce was very salty, which was fine. BUT, for the price and amount of pieces (7 total) you get, it is not worth it at all. Save your money, go to a local Asian market, pick up frozen ones and make at home. It might even taste better and will definitely be more economical.

Sub standard dumplings with tough parts. Very disappointing. Sauce was ok and improved the bland dumplings. Bummer!!

At Topanga Social… an aesthetically pleasing venue, with an upbeat vibe… but wow, they have issues. Kiosk at Dumpling Monster display only one available menu item (pork dumplings). When asked, they said they also had veggie dumplings; a tech came to add it to the kiosk, but I ended up ordering manually with the server. Ended up waiting >20 minutes for my food. AT A FOOD COURT!! Dumplings were ok… not worth the wait or the $23 (including soda & tax/tip).

Ordered dumplings. Taste was ok. Way overpriced for what you get. Not very filling and didn’t tastes too fresh. Skin is tough for a “steamed” dumpling. I should have read the reviews for this location :-/

Yelp
Dumpling House is one of the spots inside Topanga Social. They offer steamed, pan-fried, and soup dumplings. As much as I love a good dumpling, at $12.99 for seven pieces, I felt they were a bit overpriced. I definitely wasn't full after this meal, so you may need to grab something else from another vendor inside to feel satisfied. I got the chicken pan-fried dumplings. They were good, but I don't think I'd get them again at that price. You place your order at a kiosk, and you'll receive a text when your food is ready for pickup.

Yelp
My wife and I were in a rush to grab lunch and since there most of the paces were closed with it just hitting 11:00, we decided to order from here and regretted it. We placed an order through the kiosk and the total came out to around $40. What we ordered: Scallion Pancakes - an absolute joke. This was literally egg roll paper with pieces of dry scallion thrown in and fries. You need to really bite into it and tear it apart to get a bite. All my wife and I could do was laugh. Beef Rolls - thrown on top of steamed white rice and nothing else. The pairing was very strange as this severely lacked texture and proper taste pairing. Dumpling - lacked flavor and not moist. I didn't even bother to take pictures because I knew that this would not be a good meal. Lesson learned. This establishment really needs a rework and overhaul of their entire menu. Heed my warning and DO NOT EAT HERE.

Yelp
Don't listen to that David K, listen to this one! The dumpling house is serving authentic dumplings! So so SO much better than that disgusting Dan Modern place!!! I love this place! It's actually surprisingly good. Cheers!

Yelp
I paid $14 for what were the equivalent of Trader Joe's brand gyoza. Not even that good. I feel ripped off. They weren't good. This place was awful. I left 1 star but take it as negative 5 stars. This place was terrible. Don't waste your money. A complete ripoff. Low-grade grossly overpriced garbage.
